So I've decided to jump into the world of game building. I'm presently working on a tabletop based around high-fantasy gun play. However, I have no clue how to make a gamebook. I do understand that I can convert word documents into pdfs, but I want to strive for quality. I've done great at writing up all the text into .txt files, I'm not sure whats the recommended program to slap all of that into. Does anyone here mind sharing some of their rule book generation wisdom with me? My players would love you for it.

OpenOffice/LibreOffice and MS Word can all save in PDF format natively.

If you're looking for typesetting advice, look up a guide somewhere online about typesetting books.

Wow! You really know your stuff. I suspect I have a lot more writing to do, but I'll definitely follow your directions. I'm downloading Open Office right now. Thanks for the help!

Please do not use an office suite if you are striving for quality.

I heartily encourage using LibreOffice over MS Word though.
You could use professional publising software like Adobe Indesign.

I would personally recommend using LaTeX, and LuaTeX (or XeTeX) in particular for the font support.

Advertisingfag here, making PDFs is basically all I do all day.

I recommend pirating a copy of Adobe InDesign. If you want any general PDF advice, I will try to help.

To fellow latexfags:

any favorite/useful packages?
nifty meta tricks?
how do you handle class/pre-amble and document structure?

Your lack of research does not bode well for the game you're making. There's a few books you should read. Search for game- design. mechanism, theory, ...

But PDFs are easy. Every office suite exports them. Libre has a buttton for PDF export next to the save symbol.

Game Design: Advanced Game Mechanics (by Ernest Adams and Joris Dormans) and Flow: The Pyschology of Optimal Experience (by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi) are good places to start.

Does Nimble Writer worth it? It is at a discount on Steam.

Not that anon, but I have this. It's a little dated, but it has some good breakdowns of common RPG systems.
