Morning /tg/
This is my drama dice
I use it for big, dramatic, life or death rolls

Do you have any gimmick dice?
>>
>>43870058
I feel there should be some way to incorporate a magic eight-ball into our games.
>>
>>43870097
I only use it when GMing
And by gimmick die, I literally just mean anything you use for special occasions.
Unique colors, that kind of thing
>>
>>43870097
Wow. You're a fag.

If you're worried about someone trying to cheat with a spin down, you're playing with the wrong people. And, if you're not looking at the die when your roll it, it's suitably random.

Oh, I just realized you are a tripfag. That's pretty lucky, because that means I won't have to read any more of your posts ever again.

I use die I nicked from a Yahtzee box. I'm thing about buying big fuzzy dice like you hang in the car though.

he could have outright stated that he suspects OP plays Dungeon World, and that liking that system is wrong, then gone on to post about how much he loves his custom dice set with impaled-elves instead of pips.

Fun fact? Inside a magic 8 ball is a d20.
I'm not kidding.

for a given sense of "gimmick", yeah
>>
>>43870058
Had a DM who used a very large d20 when rolling for monsters in combat against our PCs. He was a massive faggot who threw his die at the wall one combat because he couldn't hit us. Glad I moved on - the guy was a piece of shit.
>>
>>43870342
>that fucking seam

No way those will give you a balanced roll, 1/10. Points given for innovative rolling method.
>>
>>43870058
I know it's a d20 with 1/20 chance to get any specific side, but I just hate d20s with all the numbers having its neighbor number next to it
it feels like it is more exploitable than the regular type
>>
I have yellow dice and white dice, black colored numbers. Have been sucesfully slaying PCs with since 09'.

I see no need to change my trusty tools.
>>
>>43870097
>not balanced

>implying dice without flat faces roll all numbers with equal probability

Putting big numbers near small numbers just makes it less rewarding to intentionally load dice. If you want fair dice you need casino style dice.
>>
>>43870423
>DM wants to slay PCs
You're shit m80. Quit playing out your pathetic fantasies because your life is shit and you can't exert any control over it.
>>
>>43870428
continued
I should also point out that not giving a fuck is a very strong option. But if you're going to fag, at least fag properly.
>>
>>43870408
Its called a spindown or counter die. Its used for counting life totals in magic. They tend to be bigger than normal dice, and yes, theoretically are easier to cheat with.
>>
>>43870443
All these flavours and you chose to be salty. PC death isn't a problem if you'd just git gud.
>>
>>43870390
>threw die at the wall
He didn't throw it at anyone and hit the wall behind them, did he?
>>43870342
BadDragon makes dice?
>>
>>43870058
I spent a hundred and fifty dollars on two sets of dice made from semi-precious stones, recently. The campaign is in the Bloodstone lands. So I bought some bloodstone dice.

I'm pretty happy with them.
>>
I don't have miniatures, so I often use dice to represent characters on a grid. Sometimes, particularly famous mooks will have a die dedicated to them and said die will thenceforth be retired from further use as an impromptu miniature. Examples include the clear green d6 that represented "Window Orc," whose defining trait was jumping straight through the window of an abandoned shop rather than going through the door like his companions and the large sparkly orange d6 that represented "Big Guy," a bodyguard who was, indeed, a pretty big guy.

Additionally, I've named two of my d20s, because I'm that much of an autist. One is red and blue and is referred to as "Spiderman Die" and the other is red and black and I call it "Edgy Die" because it was the first die I ever bought back when I was a stupid edgy teenager who played stupid edgy characters. I'm pretty sure subjugation to rolling for such shitty characters actually made Edgy Die depressed because it now rolls 1s far more frequently than any other d20 I own.
>>
>>43870058
I have a d6 with a skull on the 1 face. As a GM I roll this when selecting an encounter. When the skull comes up; then I either mix two random encounters together or double the plot related ones and have the BBEG come out and directly menace the party.

While this has wiped a party once; and a couple players really hate encountering a pair of Minotaur barbarians with an evil Cleric who just raises them as giant skeletons the moment they fall; I simply got sick of leaving my the village sacrificing death cult leader, the battle-fetishist warlord, the infinitely ambitious wizard, or the in-house assassin who only took over the operations because he struck first on their thrones in his dungeon's last room. And I feel that I improvise better than I can script encounters.
>>
>>43870548
Really I got some snowflake obsidian dice for about 40 they were a bit small but I like them a lot.
>>
>>43870456

>BadDragon makes dice?
They're an April Fool's thing. They're also silicone, so I imagine they bounce.

>>43870548
I don't want to know what those things are going to do to a wooden table.
>>
>>43870635
I got a set of 12mm bloodstone dice, first. They were only forty. When they arrived, I realized that they were WAY smaller than felt good to roll with, when actually playing, so I had to upgrade.

Totally worthwhile purchases, in my opinion. I saw the obsidian ones and they looked nice. But I needed the gimmick to justify the purchase, to myself. Obsidian dice would be excellent for a game of Darksun.

>>43870661
They clunk-as-fuck--I roll on a PhB.
>>
>>43870523
No, he threw it at the wall, not at a player. At that point I decided to extricate myself from the game. A couple of my friends are still playing in that game for shits and giggles.
>>
>>43870671
>12mm too small
Really? I've got a bunch of Chessex 12mm d6s (2x36-die sets), and I've not found them too small.
>>
>>43870128
Normally, I wouldn't care about a spindown, just shake it up a bunch in your hands before you roll, vegas-style. One that big, though, is too hard to roll effectively.
>>
>>43870686
Maybe it's 'cuz of the gimmick.
>Hey look at my precious stone dice
>What adorable little dice you have!
It just wasn't good enough.
>>
>>43870709
Have you seen those really tiny dice? Like 6mm or something?
>>
>>43870058
I have assfuck dices. Basically it's a blank d6 with a dick drawn on one side. It's rolled whenever a PC fumbles or when I don't know what die to roll for a certain situation. When the dick shows up, the character gets fucked in the ass, without lube (in the literal sense, though it happened also in the figurative sense).
>>
>>43870723
Like the ultra-tiny ones that came with the Pirates punch-out wargame? Yeah. For some reason I always want to eat them.

I've got one of these double d10s. It's my GM d100 when we're playing Rogue Trader.

It rolls pretty OK, as long as you rattle it first.
>>
>>43870317
It's a little bigger than a golfball

I will argue that I can consistantly get numbers I want on a MtG spindown, which is smaller, and the die in the pic is HUGE and heavier so it reasons it rolls less and is easier to get numbers you want.

Fun fact: well balanced dice's opposite sides should add to the number of sides + 1. 20/1 15/6 etc.
>>
>>43870058
You keep it away from my tabletops and maybe just roll it on a metal plate or something else i don't mind getting broken, scratched, or dented then its all good.
>>
A couple years ago Paizo had some kind of promotion where we got free dice at the game shop. I was just getting into tabletop, so it seemed like the ideal time for a cheapskate like me to join a table and start rolling. I was told instead, however, to use a friend's dice while the DM kept any Paizo dice safely behind his screen. My bro picked up a set though.
The sadistic DM knew exactly what he was doing though, and proceeded to kick our shit in with crits and max damage again and again, often rolled in front of us. This is how I came to know them, the dreaded red and white Paizo dice.
Used in the hands of a player, the Paizo dice don't do much. If anything you'll probably roll lower than normal, usually when a high DC is in effect.
In the hands of a DM, the ytransform completely into player-killing machines. You hear a roll, and a sigh, or see that poorly contained poker face and it begins. Handfuls of d6, as you wait your turn and the DM starts trying to add the numbers. It's great. I like my players too much to Paizo them though, for now.

>>43870058
>using a spindown die for any kind of randomization
>>
>>43871893
Roll and play games casually. Shake a die around, then kinda limp-wristedly drop it. You don't care; I don't care. It's just as fun for a character to die as it is to get double damage.

Just play a game, dude. You're doing this with buddies at a table, I hope. What are you trying to beat them at? Having fun? You can wrack up more points in that category if the rest of us do it, too. It's cooperative and the economy isn't finite.

I got me a set of titanium d6's. Ten total, and I only use them for playing characters closely related to machines. Or when I want to imply someone is mechanical in some way. GREAT fun to use with a changeling with a serious case on the uncanny valley.

Grey = Neutrality
Gold = Value

I know. My dice selection borders on unfiltered autism

I fucking hate this dice.
I got it, assuming that it would be fun. It's not. Its way too big and it's center of mass is fucking lopsided.

It now sits in a box labeled new players, if you're a new player to the campaign, you're required to use this D20 for the first night.

If you forget your own D20 for whatever reason, you're forced to use this one also.

Not only would these not work because they are in general terribly obvious, but I've never had players even try this while not joking.

>What are you trying to beat them at?
How about you try not assuming that everyone else is an asshole? The problem isn't that I don't want anyone to have an edge over me. It's that I don't want to have an edge over anyone else.
>>
>>43873617
>including me!

You forgot that last part, Anon.
>>
While playing CoC I would ask what colour the dice my players used on a roll. Eventually I had them convinced that different coloured dice were beneficial for rolling whilst others were negative.
>>
>>43870058

I've got this sparkly pink die that I got from the one girl in my high school RPG club when I was president. She got it for my birthday and kissed the 20 for good luck. I always roll it for hairy situations. Saved the party's life more than once.
