Pathfinder General /pfg/

Gish edition. Tell me, /pfg/, do you like martial mages? If so, what's your favorite type? If not, what's your preferred mage (or preferred martial)?

If you are asking for build advice, please mention which third-party books are allowed. If you do not say anything, we will assume DSP/SoP is allowed.

>>43865655
Depends what you're looking for. They don't have the same goal in mind.

The new ones aren't trying to "Balance the PCs", they're to determine encounter CRs for parties with characters that have powerful races.

If you let one player play a race that's stronger in PF, they just get a stronger race.

Personally I like PF's approach much better than 3.5.

The d20 WoW approach is my favorite though. Everything through Racial Paragon PRCs which are accessible at level 1 (but not mandatory).

Mechanically? Fluffwise? Rebuilding the class? Playing a character?

Personally, I greatly enjoy wizards (although rarely get to play them because they're easily breakable and other classes are just more fun most of the time). They're magical scientists; technobabble galore, lots of knowledge, and being in-universe nerds. Wizard colleges are probably very interesting places, and think of the sorts of fiction a fantasy world nerd would be interested in.
>>
>>43865685
Have them start out breaking encounters to "prove themselves" to the party so they don't get left in the wild to die like their last party did, eventually mellowing out and letting other people do things once they begin to realize people actually want them around.

Give him a personality. Things he's good at, things he's bad at, long-term goals, motives, mid-term goals, short-term goals, enemies, rivals, acquaintances, associates, hobbies, family, friends. You don't need all of those, but a decent combination of those should suffice.

Anyone got any experience with a Celestial Commander/Master Summoner?

I've never made a summon focused character before and am not entirely sure what feats are good choices as Celestial Commander gives up the Eidolon.

Should they need winding-up in normal activity? Or just wind up at night as their form of rest? The first would be pretty tough to do.

Gareth says \o/

Speaking of the Knight-Chandler, the archetype's issues of not getting much of anything to replace Animus were discussed a while back, and this was the result. We wanted to post this back up to see if anyone else wanted to give feedback on it before it gets set aside for the final version.

>>43865827

Cool.

I was looking at going Charm domain as my domain of choice (Celestial commander gets a domain instead of the Ediolon) unless I can find a more fun one.

The various enchantment spells look like nice additions to help with non-combat stuff and to mesh well with my huge Charisma. It also gives me something to spend my turns DOING as my summons are the real combatants.

Honestly, 15-16 dex should be plenty. When i built my archivist bard I focused a lot on my spells and skills instead of physical combat save for ranged attacks, and considering most bard spells require save DCs, I typically boosted my charisma as hard as I could.

Str should be something to think about as well I suppose. 12-14 if you choose weapon finesse or are using a composite bow, or replace that dex with str for 16-17 str and 14 or so dex.

>>43866678

>>
>>43866774
Honestly, I really like hengeyokai and have used them a decent amount in 3.5, but the ones other than sparrow have a fairly massive opportunity cost. When your race gives you some very important early abilities (immunities, stats, a feat, racial options, various other things), it's hard to justify taking the hit for fluff when I could grab another race, a spellcaster of some sort, and refluff it into what I need.

Overall, the transformation is barely a relevant ability for a race's power. It's some okay stuff for stealth, but rarely relevant (using it to scout ahead splits the party hard and isn't going to be great in dungeons), so they need actual, mechanical racial traits to be worthwhile. A lot of cool races have that issue (paid penalties for an ability that's entirely fluff, which makes the race bad at everything and maybe just mediocre at something. Fox hengeyokai fit into that paradigm).

Sparrow hengeyokai laserbird warlocks are best hengeyokai.

The tiers of the less well-known Advanced Class Guide classes are hardly discussed, and neither are the tiers of the Occult Adventures classes other than the kineticist and the psychic.

There is very little good reason why the hunter should be tier 3 as opposed to a high tier 4 due to its spellcasting coming from the druid/ranger lists and its animal companion not being astoundingly useful.

The psychic deserves tier 1 placement no more than a sorcerer (Sage bloodline) does, especially with both having access to Intelligence-based casting and the sorcerer having the better spell list. The "conveniences" of psychic spellcasting are also overstated. In other words, the psychic should be tier 2.

The sorcerer (psychic bloodline) is also hardly that much of an improvement over the regular sorcerer. The undercastable spells it receives are not mind-blowing, and the psychic magic components are not the godsend many believe them to be, particularly since they practically require a character to invest in defenses against fear effects and Intimidate-demoralization.

The magus (hexcrafter) and the inquisitor (monster tactician) have no business being in tier 2. They cannot exactly cast spells like Plane Shift, Teleport, Planar Binding, or Planar Ally by the mid-levels, so they should not qualify.

What is it about Monstrous Physique being UMDed that suddenly allows a bloodrager to rise from tier 4 to tier 3, in a way that could not be justified for many other classes? Furthermore, what is it about the Urban Bloodrager that lets the bloodrager go from tier 4 to tier 3? By 13th-level, a single 2nd-, 3rd-, and 4th-level spell each from the bard or magus lists does not suddenly make a tier 3 class.

Does a spiritualist automatically deserve tier 3 placement just because it has 6th-level spellcasting? Its spell list is far from ideal. Its phantom is nowhere as customizable and thus nowhere as powerful as an eidolon. They are *useful*, yes, but how much can they offer?

>>43866839

Did they nerf the druid list /that/ much in PF? In 3.5, it was actually quite good, with strong battlefield control and utility. Ditto the ranger list, especially if you got spells at early levels. Mystic Ranger was a pretty awesome, solid tier 3 gish as a result of the latter.

If they did nerf them, that's a shame.
>>
>>43866632
>If level 1 character should be clearing rats in a basement, and level 20 characters should be fighting gods (or become one), what should level 10 characters do?

Level 1: pest control.
Level 5: congratulations, you're a real adventurer, albeit an inexperienced one.
Level 10: you're starting to be a big deal . You could be a lieutenant in the army, or some such. You're competent. You may have a Rep .
Level 16: you're a bad ass. Most warlords and gold leaders will be around here.
Level 20: fighting demons and ancient dragons and pissing off demigods. Archmages and shit should be around here.

>>
>>43866632

Ideally or in practice? If I had a chance to redesign the 1-20 level system from the ground up, it'd look something like this:

http://pastebin.com/BML9KjZY

Otherwise, I tend to go:

>Level 1 means you're a mook. We never start at level 1, why would you do that, it's awful rocket tag.
>Level 3 means you're a beginner. Just got out of wizard school, maybe go back for grad school. Just got out of fighter training.
>Level 6 means you're competent. You've got some adventures under your belt, and might have a local rep, although you're not a big name.
>Level 10-11 is around the point where you're a power player. If you're a mage, you have world-warping magic now. If you're a martial, you can kill many dangerous beasts and powerful warriors in six seconds.
>Level 15 is when you're a living legend. Kings go to you to help with their problems, and your presence near a battlefield can turn the tide of a war, even if you don't fight. If you so much as place your hand on your weapon, even experienced adventurers will quake in their boots.
>Level 20, you are a godlike being or a god.
>>
>>43866833
I'm really not sure what to do about the pure animal form. It's just a fox... Maybe the Kitsune can have a SLA like Charm when in that form, as they are sort of magical guides? Could also throw in Hide bonuses.

For the human/hybrid stuff, what would you say if the humanoid form had just +2 Dex, and going hybrid gave another +2 Dex but -2 Wis there? +4 Dex races are very rare.
>>
>>43866900
My games tend to have a decent amount of people from 3 to 7, fewer people from 8-11, and almost none higher than that. If the campaign gets past that point, the game's scope is going to shift, because the players are major powers in their own right, and are fighting problems bigger than just dungeons.
>>
>>43866926
I like the idea of them getting more senseless in half-fox form. -4 Wis would be a funnier change for roleplay, but it would have to come with even more + attribute and then you'd never go human.

My Eberron game was basically like this. We started at level 5.

At the start, we were all fairly competent, but basic. Our Warlord was a mercenary with a few jobs under his belt, my Wizard was a Cannith forgemage, etc.

Now that we're around level 14 our Warlord now has her (they died at some point, and was reincarnated a she) own Company, and the Wizard is the BBEG.

Pretty mch everybody else has vaguely similar stories, but those are my best examples.

Entangle is somewhat weaker since the DCs to extricate oneself from entanglement are spell DC-based rather than a flat 20, it takes only a move action to attempt to extricate oneself, and a successful save to begin with means moving freely through the area during their turn.

The Pathfinder druid and ranger lists have their own new tricks from supplements, but none of them quite match up to what was offered to druids and rangers from the spell compendium alone.

These days in more interested in benchmark based monster creation than building them to be like PCs.
>>
>>43866839

To emphasize my point, I would like for everyone to compare two classes with d8 HD, 3/4 BAB, two good saving throws, and 6th-level Wisdom-based spontaneous casting:

The inquisitor and the hunter.

The inquisitor completely blows away the hunter in terms of overall benefit from class features and in terms of spell list, so should the hunter's position in the tier list not be on shakier metaphorical ground?

An inquisitor who badly desires an animal companion can gain one through the Chivalry inquisition (it must be a mount though) or the Animal domain (this will demand a feat for Boon Companion).
>>
>>43867077
Or animal ally.
>>
>>43866839
The "conveniences" of being totally shut down by the shaken condition unless using abilities to become immune to those things and adding 10 to the DC of all concentration checks?

Truly overpowered compared to people HEARING YOU SPEAK.
>>
>>43867097

That takes a somewhat heavy feat chain, of course (Nature Soul -> Animal Ally -> Boon Companion). I fully expect most inquisitors to prioritize taking feats to augment their own combat prowess, and a Charisma-destroying inquisition such as Conversion or Redemption that allows them to dump Charisma down to 7 and still be Wisdom-based party faces.

I still think that the inquisitor (warpath follower) and the warpriest (warpath follower) are too powerful and flexible due to giving up less than they receive, and it seems that Gareth and Elric have miscommunicated on this due to the former thinking that the warpath follower loses spells.

An inquisitor (warpath follower) is rather high in the tier 3 position from 4th-level alone.

Speaking of which, my point in >>43866839 is that the tier list in the pastebin is too lenient with tier definitions and allows classes to rise in tiers just because of a few upgrades. That should not be happening, and the tier definitions should be strict and adhered to.

Ok, so I've been really wanting to run a game where all the characters are members of a mercenary company on the heels of a war that has embroiled and entire region held within a large inlet leading into a delta. I would design a cast for the mercenary company, roughly 100 indivudals, then have the players start as new recruits under a sergeant.

As they progress they would get more involved in the war, maybe even become in charge of a high stakes siege. Eventually leading to the door steps of the emperor and finding out the reason behind the conflict.

How does that sound? I would require the party to make their characters together and preface it with a fair number of rules for character creation (mainly they need to be the kind of people who would be mercenaries and join this particular company).

Inside the company itself the levels would vary, the most powerful person being the mercenary captain, who'd likely be around level 5-7 to start off, and grow with the players (along with the rest of the company, the PCs would just grow a bit faster).

Does this sound fun? does anyone want to know why the war is happening

The ability in question

Flash of Insight (Su)

Once per day as an immediate action, a cyclops can peer into an occluded visual spectrum of possible futures, gaining insight that allows it to select the exact result of one die roll before the roll is made. This effect can alter an action taken by the cyclops only, and cannot be applied to the rolls of others.

For elemental probably an Oracle with the flame mystery.

For Enhancement a Skald can pretty easily replicate Bloodlust (itd be your main class feature!) and can use spells from different class lists with spell kenning, letting you pick the elemental and weird spells you want.

For ghost wolf uh... cast ghostly disguise then beast shape?
Look its not hard to ride a ghost wolf or to effectively do some feral spirit stuff, but turning into a ghost wolf? You are asking for some tough stuff here. The Totemic Skald can wild shape (turn into animals) and knows ghostly disguise. That's the best i can do for you.

>>
>>43867916

You can get reasonably close with a psychic armory. In fact, a psychic armory focusing on Elemental Flux and Solar Wind makes for a brutally competent "elemental blaster."
>>
>>43867967
Granted, that document seems to be aimed at settings in which the majority of it is around the same power level.

I would definitely drop the Dex bonus to +4, though.

Frankly, that whole system seems to be in very, very alpha writing. Is the PC at least small? Because otherwise he can't actually fit into his mech.
>>
>>43868003
Yeah. Using a not-shit kobold template that bumps ups their stats to -2/+2/+2 like all other standard races.
>>
>>43867995
The psychic armory is the platonic ideal of a soulknife and a dozen other things, yes. I tire of it.
>>
>>43867924

One issue with the dread (eclipse) is that it seems to assume that the dread (eclipse) cannot personally enter the mecha until 7th-level, which is when the mecha can finally achieve Medium size. By 7th-level, the benefits of the mecha are decidedly less overwhelming relative to the party level.

It is probably unintended for the dread (eclipse) to be capable of entering its own mecha by belonging to a Small-sized race. That creates situations where the mecha actually is too powerful for its level.

Then again, the psychic warrior (reactor knight) and the tactician (squad leader) seem very much designed to allow a character to enter the mecha right from 1st level. I will agree that the benefits are simply too much then.

Setting aside Collective Defenses, the tactician (squad leader) seems much too powerful with its 9th-level manifesting and its full mecha progression.
>>
>>43868035
You know, with the bonuses the mech is giving him, I'd slap him back down to the normal kobold stat array. As it is, he's already causing problems, isn't he? Knock his tailed ass down a notch.

Especially since you apparently didn't give arcforge a thorough-enough read to properly judge its power.

Its untested, unedited power.... damn that Forge Knight archetype looks fun...
>>
>>43868055
I disagree with the unintention on one specific point: there are halflings, and there are blues and dromites, and all of those are small without changing anything else about them.

The whole system just feels very in need of tuning, probably some frantic reeling-back, and definitely some going over by the community as a whole.
>>
>>43867077
>>43867077

Have you ever actually played a Hunter in a game or do you just want to make it look bad? Ranger list kicks ass enough to make you amazing. The teamwork feat combos are actually very strong. Overall compared to an Inquisitor you trade some out of combat utility for some pretty crazy combat ability.
>>
>>43868095
The document is an alpha document after all. Ssalarn is currently rewriting a lot of stuff.
>>
>>43868040

Would you recommend anything else for an Elemental Flux blaster that does not physically wield weapons?

The psychic armory really could stand to be slightly toned down though, with every other soulknife archetype and the base soulknife tuned up slightly up. The psychic armory is too great a standout by Dreamscarred standards.

>>43868095

Those races exist, yes, but I conjecture that the eclipse was balanced around the dread staying outside of the mech and piloting it from afar.

The dread (eclipse) clearly does not give up enough to justify its mech. By 9th-level, it sacrifices +4 Intimidate (not that crippling a loss at all) for a 7 HD mech with hardness 9, +4 Strength and Dexterity on top of its base mech bonuses, and three mech enhancements.

That is a lopsided tradeoff in favor of the mech, particularly when the psychic warrior (reactor knight) has to trade in much of its manifesting and class features for its own mech.

>>43868152

I have never built an inquisitor previously, nor a hunter.

You have probably built a hunter previously.

Since tiers are a rough measure of optimization ceiling past the low levels, it should not be an unfair comparison for you to piece together a hunter while I build a ranger, so that we can see what reasonably optimized characters of such classes look like. I will avoid the monster tactician since that allegedly (and doubtfully in my opinion) pushes the inquisitor into tier 2.

12th-level, 25-point buy, human for race, standard wealth by level, maximum hit points at 1st level and average thereafter, two traits (no campaign traits), standard wealth by level. Will this be fair?

how do I create the perfect pathfinder?

So far, it has the ability to regenerate from any damage dealt to it as long as at least one cell remains.

It has the ability to copy techniques used on it only once.

It can pop off tiny, miniature clones of itself in cases where it is required to be in several locations at once.

Finally, it can generate an anti-magic/anti-psi field when it's opposition are stronger then it on either front.

I am not so sure about that. A plain, non-weapon touch attack would be difficult to balance around, since it is simultaneously too accurate (touch attack) yet bereft of many of the upgrades available to weapons (enhancement bonus, Deadly Aim/Power Attack, an ability modifier to the damage roll, and so on).

It would perhaps be more ideal to create a trait that allows a character to convert a (composite) longbow in their possession into a "blast of pure magic" that is always considered drawn and that they can fire as long as both of their hands are free, and that acts in all ways as the longbow that was converted. It could penetrate antimagic fields and even be fired in an antimagic field, just like a longbow could, but it would lose any enhancements.

Unfortunately comes with the drawback that it doesn't play with active energy at all (all the energy weapon blade skills are for one energy type only; a failure of design) and requires class levels I could be devoting to the not-mage that is the mystic, though I suppose with the way IL works, a soulknife 4/mystic X would be a decent way of loading up entirely on just Flux maneuvers and also let me get all four element blade skills.

>>43868336
I simply don't want the baggage of weapons. The weight, the cost, the proficiency, the handedness. As strong as weapons are, I'd rather be using something that's not them, not daily-resource magic that runs out, and not sphere-casting (I'm still a bit sour). Basically I want a not-trash kineticist.

Mystic Warrior (Magic Trait)
Benefits: With an hour of concentration, you can cause a single appropriately-sized weapon or suit of light armor to meld into your body. You must be holding the item during this process. With a swift action, you can cause any such item to un-meld from your body.

Any weapon or armor melded into your body is undetectable save for any magical auras the item might shed, has no weight, and is not considered metal for the purposes of effects such as Heat Metal and Elemental Nimbus (Air). The weapon and armor are still melded and fully functional inside an antimagic field or a similar area, although they lose any magical enhancements. You can have only one weapon and one suit of armor melded into your body this way.

As long as you are not holding any weapon (other than natural weapons), you are not using a shield, and you have at least one hand free, you can wield the weapon melded into you. You can treat yourself as wielding the weapon in two hands even if you have only one hand free. If the weapon is a projectile weapon, you generate for it ammunition with each attack, as long as each piece of ammunition is worth only 1 gp or less.

You are considered to be wearing the armor that has melded into you.

Elemental Mystic Warrior (Combat Feat, requires Mystic Warrior)
Prerequisite: Mystic Warrior trait, active energy type
Benefits: Whenever you deal damage with the weapon melded into you, you can replace all bludgeoning, piercing, and/or slashing damage with energy damage of your active energy type.

Do this trait and feat have any holes or abuses?

>Undetectable even to advanced divinations?
Correct, for the the same reason that there is no RAW method for determining if a creature in sight can shape a mind blade or not. Besides, the magic auras are still present.

>Is metal armor still metal for the purpose of druid shit (or did that rule go away)?
I should clarify that it still counts as metal for that specific purpose.

Even if you have one hand free, you are still wielding it two-handed, and thus you would not be eligible for Scarlet Einhander and similar effects.

Here are the trait and the feat revised.

Mystic Warrior (Magic Trait)
Benefits: With an hour of concentration, you can cause a single appropriately-sized "armament loadout" or suit of light armor to meld into your body. You must be holding the "armament loadout" or the armor during this process. An "armament loadout" can be any of the following: a two-handed weapon, a light or one-handed weapon and a shield, two light or one-handed weapons, or a light or one-handed weapon and nothing else.

Any "armament loadout" or armor melded into your body is undetectable save for divinations such as Locate Object and Discern Object, although they still shed any magic item auras. Any item melded this way has no weight; if it is metal, it is considered metal for the purposes of your own class features, but never for the purposes of effects such as Heat Metal and Elemental Nimbus (Air). The "armament loadout" and armor are still melded and fully functional inside an antimagic field or a similar area, although they lose any magical enhancements. You can have only one "armament loadout" and one suit of armor melded into your body this way.

You can treat yourself as wielding the "armament loadout" melded into you at any time, as long as you have the free hands to use them. If the "armament loadout" includes a projectile weapon, you can use only one hand to attack with it and reload as long as you are not holding any other weapon or shield, and you generate ammunition with each attack provided that each piece of ammunition is worth only 1 gp or less.

You are considered to be wearing the armor that has melded into you.

Elemental Mystic Warrior (Combat Feat, requires Mystic Warrior)
Prerequisite: Mystic Warrior trait, active energy type
Benefits: Whenever you make an attack with your "armament loadout" melded into you, you can replace all bludgeoning, piercing, and/or slashing damage with energy damage of your active energy type.

A full Druid animal companion is tier 4 by itself; essentially every other day you can have the best animal for the situation with whatever tricks and feats you need.

This is... much more like what it's *supposed to be* than it *is*

A level 1 PC is basically the best-of-the-best in real-world terms. A human barbarian 1 can absolutely demolish the world record 100m dash time... and keep up that pace for minutes on end, while wearing chain, wielding a battleaxe, and carrying 50-odd pounds of other gear. 1st-level characters die easily, but then so do the toughest badasses in real life.

Anyway, after a couple of levels, PCs are routinely shrugging off lethal attacks.

This fact does highlight some of the problems with the feats in the game, of course. Even at 1st level, PCs are at the very high end of real-world human capability in several areas, but still haven't mastered basic martial techniques. There is a severe disconnect between what PCs are actually capable of, and what some authors (particularly those writing mundane feats) seem to imagine they're supposed to be capable of.

Anyway, by 7th or so (E6 chose that level for a reason), the comparison to any real-life figures is basically impossible. PCs at those levels are super-human and are the stuff of real-world myths and legend. I mean, if you look at the CRs of various combats that show up in his labors, Hercules was around 7th or 8th level.

Going toe-to-toe with angels and demons happens long before 20th; 10th is much closer to accurate there. Playing on a deific level, even, can happen before 20th.

And none of this is really what either Wizards of the Coast or Paizo really seemed to be aiming for. They just seem to have severely underestimated the capabilities that they were handing out, especially to spellcasters.

Is there a way to make a magic weapon deal nonlethal damage without the -4 to the attack roll outside the Merciful wsa?
I have a powerful need for it.

Anyone have experience with the Armour as DR rule?

A GM I know is planning to use it but the math feels off to me. AC will end up way too low and a lot of weapons will just bounce.

Am I wrong?
>>
>>43869692
Armor as DR works without a hitch, really, until levels 7+, I think.
Another anon cut it that half of armor went to AC, half to DR, or something of that type, and it scaled better.

I meant the specific reason you need this nonlethal magic weapon for, and your character.

There's a trait that will work if you're A) using a bladed weapon, and B) worship a specific god.

Blade of Mercy

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits/religion-traits/blade-of-mercy-goddess-of-dawn

If you're not playing with the standard PFG pantheon, then ask your DM how/if they want to enforce B.

>tfw rejected from all roll20 campaigns you've applied for.

why /tg/

i swear i'm not a bad player

but the only games i get a chance in are games with people who powergame ( in a way that breaks immersion but isn't particularly effect) and people who don't roleplay.

what are some things I should avoid on a first impression?

Question about Cryptic Grammaton: is the 1d6 given an absolute, or is it for medium creatures? 1/2h is obviously meant to be the same here, but is it for medium *firearms*? What if you have a Large rifle?

And does the weapon's enchants, etc apply? Strength? Can you Power Attack a gun-butt? It's a melee attack so some things wouldn't, but it won't do anything if you're doing 1d6 bludgeoning without the +5 enhancement bonus when dealing with high levels and DR.
>>
>>43870617
First, listen to >>43870629
Second, a majority of roll20 campaigns already have their players by the time the thing gets to that site. *MOST* people are rejected from *MOST* games.

There's also the occasional fuckwads that use character creation to just steal a free portfolio of NPC backstories and/or world fluff, and there actually IS no game. That covers much of mythweavers rather than roll20 though.

Hey /pfg/, you know how Paizo is going to unveil some big secret about Aroden? One of the other players in my group and I were joking around with ideas and then got the idea that he might have disappeared because he entered the little-known Dimension of Time to try and change something from his past. The reason we got the idea was because we zeroed in on part of the description of the demiplane, that "Those native to the Outer Sphere, including deities, are unable to access this demiplane." and my friend questioned if that meant those gods who were not native to the Outer Sphere would be able to enter the realm.

If he did enter the Dimension of Time, then Aroden would have the chance to visit any point in his past. However, trying to change the past is dangerous, "Any attempt to change the past, however, results in a swift reaction. Offenders are either excised from reality completely or trapped in an inescapable time loop."

He obviously wasn't deleted from reality since people still remember him, which would imply he's stuck in a time loop somewhere... Or rather, sometime. I suspect Aroden could have been thinking that his somewhat unique status as a god not native to the Outer Sphere would allow him the ability to successfully alter the past, but obviously he was incorrect. The big question left is then "What was Aroden hoping to change in the past?" and my only guess so far is that he could have been wanting to stop/undo Earthfall. His known intentions from the Starfall Doctrine were that he was going to usher in a new age of success and brilliance for humanity, which could have started with restoring them to the level of advancement and culture they had pre-Earthfall.

What do you guys think? Possible theory? Other ideas that might make sense for what Aroden could have hoped to change in the past?
>>
>>43870093
tieflings can roll a trait that let's them do it.
>>
>>43870707
Not directly relevant, but when that "Is Aroden an Anunnaki" thread started, a dev came by and said that they had written lots of stuff for the 100th book and none of it was what happened to Aroden.

If a PC wanted to become a merchant and level up, how would you go about implementing that? We just had someone walk out on a campaign because they felt the GM's homebrewed feat was too oppressive.
>>
>>43870724
That actually is pretty relevant, since that means this couldn't be the big secret we'll be getting in PF #100... That said though, I think it's still a plausible idea just on its own merits and equally important in my opinion, an entertaining one and could still be what happened to Aroden when he disappeared. If the secret we're getting in PF #100 isn't about what happened to Aroden, then I think chances are Paizo will never actually tells and leave the subject an actual mystery so people can just make their own theories. And this one holds up decently, I think...

Considering it more, I actually feel like it even helps explain why Aroden's disappearance broke prophecy. Prophecy relies on fate, the idea that things are suppose to happen a certain way. As long as everything goes the way it's meant to go, a prophecy comes to completion. But someone mucking around in the past can have bad consequences for fate, because they are retroactively altering the way things happened, changing them from what they were fated to be and thus disrupting prophecies that relied on fate. If the prophecy is "A great hero will arise from the north and come to end the tyrant's rule." that prophecy can't come true if the butterfly effect of someone's time traveling means the hero's parents never met each other, after all.

Fluff and rp. Maybe a single rank in profession to represent thay they have the training they need and not eat the skill points that need to be spent on actual stats. If you're doing heavy rp, you should be giving exp anyway, since noncombat encounters do that. Otherwise, I'd level them up at the same rate as the rest of the party because playing with disparate levels sucks.

Punishing them for wanting to interact with the world in a fun and fluffy manner is right out.
>>
>>43871084
Not completely useless, I mean.
I would've given it a bigger damage die if it wasn't at-will.

Alright... let's see if we can call it ahead of time.

We'll "discover" that Aroden hates his past as a "misogynistic triggerhappy rapefiend"(which is what they call merely even having a penis nowadays) and went back in time to make himself born a true natural wymyn. "Zhe" wisdom drops to 7 and a new adventure book comes out, where the players join some plucky CG rebels to help straighten (but not 'straight' because that would be oppressive, they must at least all be bi AND struggling with it) out the problems that were (never actually caused, because fucking time travel, AT LEAST GET THAT MUCH RIGHT PAIZO) caused by raging barbaric rapefiends angrily optically-raping everything in sight due to the TRANSformation of one of their gods from LE devil-rapebeast into a CG Goddess making them angry almost as if they were real people with struggles who'd been triggered. By things that can't have happened due to time travel.
