Generally members of religious orders, such as the Order of the Circle and the Vigilants of Stendarr, or private NGO groups like the Order of Virtuous Blood and Dawnguard. Their goal is to eradicate supernatural entities, often daedra, for either pay or in the case of the some of the larger groups, on a pro bono basis if the threat is sever enough.

Their expertise in these matters makes them extremely dangerous, as they are accustomed to dealing with threats far more sever than the average militant would be, making them valuable as soldiers and guards in addition to their other skills.

They'd likely have exceptional skill in tracking, hunting, and identifying magical residues as a result of their line of work, and likely know a litany of folk lore and myths, and will have no doubt picked up the finer points of the alchemical arts.

When does this take place? Senchal has changed a lot over time.
Anyway, Senchal is a major trading town, people and wares move around. Make it feel overcrowded and hectic. It's a city of markets and bazaars, surrounded on three sides by ports. Depending on the timeline, it may be lawless, it may be somewhat secure, and it may be mostly abandoned. Imperials consider it a ugly city, at least at the time when large parts lay in ruins.
It has a large span between squalid slums and huge manors owned by noblemen and merchants. The Potentate once lived there. The law has never been especially well enforced.
You might want to go to the Black Keirgo, which is a part of town that's just about unregulated. It's a mix of the best and the worst. It's the most squalid and dangerous part of town, especially to outsiders, but it's also where the biggest trading in moonsugar and skooma goes down, and it has establishments for every layer of society. That place has beggars with shakes and noblemen tripping balls.

Culturally, you're in Pellitine, though the city is probably so large that it's more metropolitan.

Oh, and being a Bosmer is probably a good way to get killed.

Im thinking late 3rd age before oblivion crisis. What will the average khajiit be like, will they give information on grave robbers pr a growing necromancer cell?
>>
>>43864966
>What will the average khajiit be like
Varies a lot. I'd imagine the Khajiit to be mostly Pellitinian, but all kinds of cats from all walks of life end up in Senchal. Probably less of the very large quadruped breeds though. If you're the size of an elephant, you probably don't want to live in a city.

Necromancy is from what I know rather rare in Elsweyr, and I don't think most people care all that much about corpses being exported. Though that doesn't mean it's something they approve of. It may be that the Khajiit, or at least some of them, view Necromancy as a form of slavery. That would make them very opposed to it, as the Khajiit have a distaste for such practices.
If you're in Senchal, corpses are probably of two kinds. The first is local corpses, probably the ones of dead people from squalid parts of the city, The second is corpses that arrive in Senchal to be sold to necromancers. Those are probably from Anequina, since it's easier to take corpses from shallow desert graves.

I'd imagine you could persuade most Khajiits to talk about grave robbers unless they have good reason to hide it. Necromancy is a bit foreign to the Khajiiti, who don't generally excel in magic, so I'd imagine the threat of it sounds kind of scary.
If the players try to demand info because they're Blades, I think that would work for the upper class, but not for the common cat. If they tried to focus on the necromancer threat, I'd imagine it would be easier to get people to talk.

>>
>>43866600
I can still read it, so you're doing fine.

>>43866649
Most Khajiit in his game will culturally be Pellitinian, since Senchal lies in Pellitine.
I don't know how much you know about the Khajiit, but they have a pretty big cultural divide that can roughly be sorted into the southern Pellitinian and the northern Anequinans, taking the name after the two major traditional kingdoms of Khajiiti history.

>>43866723
This. You'd have poor addicts that would say anything for more cash, and merchants that just want more dosh.
In general, you don't even have to consider race and culture that much. Just think about how a partially lawless city that's basically run by merchant lords would turn out. Toss in the drugs, the addicts and the poor, and you have a lot of things to work out from.

>>
>>43861701
They still are. You posted an artist's rendition of their character in the most recent Elder Scrolls game, which happens to include Bosmer with horns and antlers, after all.
>>
>>43866759
Tell me of them (Anequinans and Pellitinians)?
>>
>>43866894
It's kind of a double distinction. You can use the terms about the kingdoms themselves, or about the typical culture of them.
So let's get the kingdoms out of the way first. The Khajiit are a ancient folk, but Elsweyr itself isn't that old. In the past, the province used to be split off into all kinds of kingdoms, but after the Khajiit were hit hard by the Thrassian Plague everything changed, and you were left with two kingdoms. In the hills and deserts of the north, you had the kingdom of Anequina, and in the south the kingdoms of Pellitine. The kingdoms probably never stopped existing, but were joined into a confederacy in 2E 309. As of 4E 115, the confederacy was disbanded and the kingdoms formally split.
So in the first sense, the terms are about which kingdom people or things are from. Senchal, for example, lies on the Quin'rawl Peninsula, which is in Pellitine.
In Ta'agra the kingdoms are called Pa'alatiin and Ne Quin-al.
>>
>>43867109
On the other hand, the terms are used about the culture of the people who live there. I'm going to generalize it real quick.
Anequina is mostly a kingdom of vast desert wastes and grasslands, and there's a lot of nomads. These guys are more tribal and aggressive, living mostly in wandering clans. If I'd take a guess, I'd say most Khajiiti traders you meet in Skyrim are Anequinan.
Anequina is where Khajiiti warriors are born, it's a warrior culture.
In Pellitine, Anequina is viewed as barbaric and uncivilized.

In Pellitine, you have a lot of jungles and river basins, and people here are typically agrarian. This place has a long history of agrarian aristocracy, artisans and mercantile traditions. Moon Sugar only gets made in Pellitine, and it's where most of Elsweyr's riches are from.
Pellitine is where Khajiiti traders come from, and they have a very materially rich tradition.
In Anequina, Pellitine is viewed as decadent and depraved.

I hope that covers things.

every time i try to enchant something, it fails.what am I doing wrong? Also, where it says "Enchantment: __/__" What do the numbers necessarily mean?

Also when I tried to enchant my steel helm, it said "You cant add more enchantments than this item can hold" or something along those lines. Even though the helm doesnt have an enchantment and i was just trying to add ONE enchantment to it. Is this a glitch with the code patch, because I do have the tick marked where you can add more than one enchantment

Sorry if the questions are obvious, first time playing an enchanter. Heres a pic in exchange
>>
>>43867172
Those numbers are the level of enchantment that can be held.

Y/X = Enchantment power

An item can have a enchantment value = X at maximum. If the value of Y, the enchantment you're placing on the item, is less than or equal to X, the enchantment proceeds as normal and you have a chance equal to your skill level to enchant the item.
>>
>>43867199
so if my enchanting is at 24, then I have a 24% chance to succeed?

Thanks. And the Steel Helm business?
>>
>>43867134
>Nibenayans and Colovians
I can give it a try once I get back home. Though I'll have to say that I know less about Cyrondiilic history than I do about Khajiiti.
>>
>>43867227
A steel helm can hold an enchantment with a maximum power of 25.

An enchantment's power is determined by the base cost multiplied by the power of the enchantment. Therefore, a steel helm is only capable of holding simple enchantments, where as something like an Ebony Helm, which has a much larger enchantment value, can hold a more complex or powerful one.

It's a bit hard to understand unless you go through the process first hand, but once you get used to it the whole process makes perfect sense
>>
>>43867258
b-but it was a steel helm that I wanted to enchant with Paralyze on touch for 1 second! That's not considered a simple enchantment?

Bethesda makes a game about the apocalypse and the current kalpa cycle ending.
All of a sudden the recent iteration of the Nords have lost all connection to their traditions (Gods and all) and the Dunmer are infesting their lands with the help of people who are culturally closer to Nibenese/Colovians than Nords at heart.
Now if you read the writings about mysticism regarding Kalpas/Cosmic Cycles in the west prior to the New Age hippies found out about them you find hyper-traditionalists and mysticists like Spengler, Evola, Guenon, etc all of who viewed the societal and spiritual decline of the west as the precursor to the end of the current cycle.

It's pretty hilarious to be honest, either someone at Bethesda is pretty /pol/-tier or they managed to be so unwittingly. (i'd wager the latter for Kirkbride since he's intimated that his main inspiration for the cosmological stuff is comic books)

All sides of the skyrim civil war are morons.

The Empire is a shell of it's former self and needs to die off. The stormcloaks are retards for not realizing that a unified skyrim is a stronger skyrim. The Aldmeri Dominion is fucking shit up, and noone is doing anything to bring everyone together. Even the Psijic Order doesnt give two fucks about anything other than the damned Eye.

So what do you do to fix this broken situation with the civil war? Pull a Tiber Septim and kill your best friend and master and attribute all his success to yourself???

All Daedric Princes are pretty much omnipotent in mortal measure, if you don't count CHIM and stuff. They can only compete against each other and Aedra etc. Considering that he was Trinimac before being made into the Pariah, he must have held a huge power. Auri-el sends him to spank Veloth and the gang, he must be at least as powerful as Alduin in terms of capability in his own sphere. Okay maybe he couldn't recite the entire literature of the future eras from memory but he must have been one hell of a champion.

This is why the idea of him, doomed to failure seems so enticing. He is the ultimate pariah; he can't do what he would otherwise be able to do because he is restrained from power this or the other.

Wow that pic is aweful, can we get a better imperial explanation. Seriously neither side is right or wrong, the only bad option for humans is if neither imperial or stormcloak gain a decisive victory. It pisses me off that your post even drags all of tamriel into it. Hammerfell is doing well, and argonia is divorced from the situation entirely. Plus i imagine if skyrim seceded so will high rock. That would be amazing redgaurd light infantry, nord beserkers, breton spellswords, and orc heavy infantry. Along with every other kind of soldier that aren't their cultures stereo type. So while the thalmor do have to be stoped, the empire doesn't have to be the ones to do it. Also if you knew any history you would know that the empire is ever hardly a united empire under peace and brotherhood or any other gay shit, that only a handful of emperor's were any good and the others soaked the continent in blood. The line is broken and the empire is a puppet, but unless the kalpa ends or the thalmor "win" their will be another leader who will come along at the right time to unite the sundered lands.

No they had it coming, i know skyrim is controversial but i dont think anyone blames hammerfell for leaving. Ill look them up because they are actually a line i haven't read up on, guess it doesn't help that the mede in tes5 seemed so weak willed in history and the dark brotherhood mission ( i know he was a tactical genuis but didn't seem much of a strategy guy, not the best trait for an emporer).
>>

yah...about that. He didnt seem surprised when you showed up. and what kind of emperor stays in the very same city his cousin was killed in, and let alone with barely any guards.

I think he knew the brotherhood was coming. He knew the people of the empire didnt think much of him and it was his time.

Perhaps he had Mortierre set up his contract. Perhaps Mortierre was part of the elder council and loyal to the emperor to the end? He had that necklace afterall, not many of them out there....

Mortierre was a member of the Council.

So, what exactly defines a Daedric prince or a Daedra?
I used to think they just developed paralel to the Aedra but then they have weird origins..

Meridia is a Magna Ge.. Malacath is a transformed mortal, Pery is a Dragon/Jill...and Hermaos is probably something from the last kalpa.. but what are the others?

Very intresting, skyrim gets a lot of deserved crap but there are quite a few intresting things in it. So let's go down a list of people who might possibly be of royal blood who have not claimed the throne but very well could.

Galana Septim and Duke of Narsis' descendants (if any)
Antiochus Septim and Magna's descendants (if any)
Bianki's descendants (if any)
Uriel Septim III's descendants (if any)
Kintyra Septim II's descendants (if any)
Joleth Septim's descendants (if any)
Andorak Septim's descendants (if any)
Morihatha Septim and Ulfe Gersen's descendants (if any)
Uriel VII's desendants (he was a horny bastard and had alot of kids, I wouldn't be surprised if he had another kid or two stashed somewhere)

All names come from here http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Septim_Dynasty

Legitimacy concerns, most likely.

Just because you could technically claim the throne, you might not necessarily have the support/legitimacy/power to actually do so. In the case of all the immediate heirs dying such as is the Septim case, installing a distant relative requires massive amounts of support compared to simple usual succession.

Nibeneans are groups of people who live in the Nibenay basin through the hearth-lands. They are what most people think about when they hear the word "imperial". Diplomatic, shrewd silver-tongued, well mannered etc. Originally their culture was a mix of Roman/Chinese-japanese and South east Asian motifs.

The Colovians are from the are called the colovian highlands through Bruma in Cyrodiil, they are more nordic in nature are the core of the Cyrodillic armies. They live in a semi-fuedalistic society that holds honor knightly values.

Okay newfag getting into the deeper lore. There are two bits that confuse the hell out of me
>So Talos re-enacted Lorkhan at convention or something and by breaking the dragon just as Lorkhan fought Auriel, that made him mantle Lorkhan?

Also

>Do Aedra and Daedra swap places with each kalpa, or can Aedra only swap with Aedra and Daedra only with Daedra
>I bring this up because I recall someone saying next kalpa would have Peryite as Akatosh and Molag Bal as Magnus, and cited Molag Bal as ruler of the previous kalpa as the Ruddy Man.
>Is that last part even true?
>>
>>43885134
Talos ascended by enantiomorph, with Wulfharth as the King and Zurin as the Observer. The dragon break was a side effect of the fact that he did this be powering on the Numidium.

Aedra and Daedra change each kalpa. Molag Bal as the Ruddy Man is true as true can be, even to canonfags; its in the Sermons.
>>
>>43885263
Yeah but does that mean he was Aedra at one point?
>>
>>43885311
>>43885134
And if Talos indeed does survive to the next kalpa then does that mean any of the other Aedra/Daedra could have been mortals that ascended at some point?
>>
>>43872293
I wanted to be able to screw all sides and make myself High King. My character certainly had the credentials: thane in 9 holds; Archmage of Winterhold; savior of Solitude; (ostensible) destroyer of the Dark Brotherhood; dragon-born; slayer of dragons; slayer of the progenitor of the Volkihar clan; adept of the Thu'um; loved and respected by all; hero to rich and poor, strong and weak, man, woman and child alike; and all-around badass.

There are plenty of other deeds I didn't list, but the point is: with all the incredible, heroic shit the PC is able to do, you'd think it'd be a viable option.

I can see why Bethesda would be reluctant from a "we control the story" standpoint, though. On the other hand, there are certainly ways it could be justified/worked around in future games.
>>
>>43885311
Not necessarily. He could have been a Daedroth ruler.

>>43885335
Whether talos will survive to the next kalpa is debatable, but since he reinforces this one its likely he won't need to. As for ascension: arguably it's possible, but I don't believe there have been any recorded cases that aren't just mortals mantling the existing 'dra.

I want to run a campaign on the premise of the Green Pact being broken.

Wood elves are now unstable shape-shifters again.

In their despair they chose varied paths to save them selves.

Some (however unlikely it seems) worshiped Azura and she turned them into Crow-Elves (Crow wings and talon feet but otherwise elves, also they still hate Khajeet)..

Some turned to worship Peryite who gave them two forms, one of kobold-like folk (mix of ratfolk, standard lizard and a small hint of their original form) and the other Serpentine-Draconic folk in his image who are able to transform back into their original elven guise.

Some turned to flee to Black-Marsh where they made a pact with the Hist becoming Marsh-Elves.

Hiricine was the most popular choice however and he gave them the guise of wolf people similar to the Khajeet with more distinct elven features visible (minimal animal parts, also they still hate the Khajeet).

A small group that was closer to the empire however requested aid from wizards across Tamriel and found house Telvani willing to help them along with the College of Winterhold.
They researched and found a way to control their shape shifting and giving them a permanent base form close to a mix of Dunmer and Nord features.

Now however i need new names for the Bosmer Sub-species that made here.
Also i need to find a reason why Yffre broke of the pact with the Bosmer.
Maybe the Khajeet or Thalmor (or both) destroyed a Tree formed from the remains of Yffre or a crazy Bosmer sorcerer decided to give his people ''Freedom''.

Also the new sub-groups need new specialties.
The Marsh elves get to keep the original Bosmer features (because they switched from worshiping magic trees to worshiping magic trees) except they don't have to follow a green pact any more, they are just forbidden from harming the Hist intentionally.

>>43889511
I don't think you need to mess with the Green Pact to add those species to Tamriel. Why not just add druidism to the setting and say that various clans of Bosmer have adopted the guise and powers of their spirit totem animals?

In case you don't have a superb plot about the compromise of the Green Pact, I'd suggest stay away from it, since its a pretty huge deal. Correct me if I'm wrong but an equivalent change in racial history would be if somehow, the Dunmer went back to being Chimer. And that shit needs a great excuse.

>Talos’ totem is the newest, but is everywhere – he is the Dragonborn Conquering Son, the first new god of this cycle, whose power is consequently unknown, so the Nords bless nearly everything with his totem, since he might very well be the god of it now, too. Yes, as first of the Twilight Gods, this practice might seem contradictory, but that’s only because, of all the gods, he will be the one that survives in whole into the next cycle.

This it? So what does this mean? Because honestly, the Kalpa stuff just confuses me. In what sense will the other Gods die?
Will it be literal or figurative? Right now I'm trying to piece stuff together and remember Kirkbride's lore, and my mind is just going "Fuck that shit".

I think the implication is that Talos will be the Lorkhan or Akatosh of the next kalpa, Shor son of Shor style. The next kalpa, as we know, which isn't happening.

The enantiomorph doesn't refer exclusively to Tiber septing mantling Lorkhan, nor does it really refer to the threefold unity thing; that's just the result of Talos achieving divinity by re-enacting the convention, whcih is in itself a form of enantiomorph.

The enantiomorph refer to any repetition of the rebel vs king motif, which is a constantly recurring thing in the lore. Anu and Padomay, Anuiel and Sithis, Lorkhan and Akatosh, Hortator and Sharmat, etc. All of it mirrors to events that occurred to the Godhead before the dream, and thus it keeps recurring throuought the dream.

Sheo and CoC actually.
Resulted in Skyrim's Sheo (blindness, you see?)

Huh, interesting. Sheo and Jyg counts too, though. Two for one.

Can someone please point out where the Rebel v.s King bullshit actually finds grounding? Everything I see implies it is just thing v.s thing.

Rebel versus King means, simply, the betrayal of someone, usually by someone close to them; sometimes their roles switch. An observer is required to tell the difference between them, but is maimed.

Lorhkan becomes the missing god. The Tribunal is worshiped instead of Nerevar, the Hortator. Emperor Zero doesn't become Emperor of Tamriel, Tiber does. All betrayed.

Of course, the orthodox isn't always flawless.

It's like flipping a coin.

Sheo's King, Jygg's Rebel, Dyus or Haskil are Observer-Traitor.

During SI though, Sheo is King and decides to have the CoC mantle him, Jygg is still rebel, Dyus or Haskil is Observer-Traitor, and CoC eventualy becomes King.

So is CoC Lorkhan now?
Lorkhan's Sithis Shaped Hole of Sheogorath, and Lorkhan's Shezzarine of Pelin-El

The CoC is/was probably Sheogorath for at least a while. I don't know if they fully mantled Pelial.

They got closer than most people, but not as close as Talos.
