Russ is the only primarch whose gene-kind would be extinct by M41 if they didn't have an ironclad law demanding a minimum of one great company to occupy the Fang at all times, because at several points in their history (never specified exactly, to my knowledge) they've actually pitched all 11 companies into major battles and gotten aced, then had to rebuild from the one left over.

Ragnar Blackmane. In 7th Space Wolves codex, Logan orders the entire chapter to Cadia to defend it. As of the novel, it says the surface is lost, all the cities are burning and only a few scatter Imperial forces remain. Which means that the Space Wolves can't be alive in any useful number if the planet is deemed lost.

While the Blood Angels have been a few marines away from the big dirt nap a couple times, they're just the thousand-odd guys carrying the name of the original legion. There's never been a time when the entire gene-legacy of Sanguinius was nearly destroy (post-Heresy, of course). That's in contrast to the Space Wolves who, remember, are literally the only chapter carrying Russ' genes - because attempting to found chapters off of Fenris met with utter failure. If they get wiped out, that's it.

The Wolf gene-seed is such a mess, so goddamn incompatible with 99.9% of the human genome, it wouldn't shock me if at some point the Admechs just threw up their mechadendrites, threw most of it back to Fenris with a "you fucking deal with it" and just kept a few testing samples.
