why is Tara the cutest? And how does she play in Ressers? The Nothing Beast feels very underwhelming and I don't see something like Killjoy to just unbury in the opponents face for ressers.

You can also use Spare Parts followed by her Fast burst to get some extra Guild Autopsies ready to go at full strength.
Tara also has a lot of Willpower debuffs you can put to good use with Belles, The Hanged, and a few others.
It's vaguely annoying that the generalist upgrade deck is roughly the same price as just buying the two waves for your faction, haha.

On the bright side I can use most of his crew with McMourning no matter which side I choose for him.
I like how the Neverborn are the "bad guys" faction but are fairly understandable and even sympathetic in their own way. It's not like Warmachine for example, where Cryx and Legion are pretty much straight up awful monsters with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

To some degree they can be sympathetic since they were either turned into an undead creature or a master against their will.
If necromancy wasn't infectious in Malifaux, Seamus would be selling hats, McMourning and Nicodem would be doing their normal jobs without doing freaky necromancy shit on the side, and Molly would probably be a normal reporter. Kirai and Yan Lo would be the only ones getting the raw deal, since Yan Lo would still be dead and Kirai would probably be murdered after the accidental death of the Governor's son.

I really wish the alt-McMourning wasn't gated behind such a ridiculously high pre-req. Even adding friend purchases to the total order won't get anywhere near $300, and I'm not spending $100 just to get a single model.

No means terrible, and a competent Yan Lo player can destroy other crews with ease.
Disregard Brutal Karaka and Hunpo Dance unless you really want. Lightning Dance reposition game is where you want it. Get Bone & Spirit ascendant to become indestructable, then cast Dance with Ca 8 into Izamu and proceed to wreck. Terracotta Curse can also be a pain. Take Reliquary if you have an Ancestor so you can revive it when it bites the dust. Get some Onryo though, they are neat. Advesary targets, then make models with Yan Spirits so they gain the additional flip against them. Also, Armor +2 and Incorporeal means nobody will bother wounding em.
He is one of those masters that only cares for upgrades and fiddly models for faction choices, as his core can be taken no matter the faction anyway.
There are masters that work smoother, but he does well.

Izamu + Nurse + Fast. If you can unbury into melee range that's 4 actions at 5/6/7. Something is dead, and that's a huge threat range with a positive flip in disengagement and a very high ml stat. Some nice movement control as well.

Izamu is just a great model for Ressers in general though. Tara, Yan Lo, Molly, Nicodem, and Kirai have some amazing synergy with him in one way or the other.

Lucius loves minions. His big thing is getting extra actions out of them, either by directly using an action or causing horror duels on your own dudes when he moves near them.
He's very guild focused in his fluff and starter box, though it's possible to run him Neverborn if you grab the right models. You can take up to 4 guardsmen or mimics ignoring faction with one of his upgrades.
I don't know about Neverborn, but in Guild he likes Riflemen, Astringers, and Pathfinders. Pathfinder in particular he has a neat trick with, since he can have a dude of his take 3 damage so that he can keep a spent soulstone, and Pathfinders create traps that can take the hit instead of your important guys.
Do we know what the tyrants actually are?
I've read the M2E books and most of the chronicles but never seen any explanation of what the tyrants actually are. As far as I know the tyrants that have been mentioned are Cherufe, Plague, Nytmere, whatever that thing in Shen Long is called and Obliteration. Dunno if I missed any.

Yes, we do. The game expects you to read all the material from 1st ed onward without providing an easy source outside of buying pdf's for 7$ each..anyway. Tyrants are the people of old malifaux who got so powerful they have become, amost literally, gods. The people eventually rebelled, and the following war ruined the region (possibly whole world...but for all we know Malifaux might just be the Chernobyl zone of that world!) and turned the people left alive into the neverborn. Tyrants were then imprisoned for "ever", which we know how well it worked out.

The starter is good if you want to play either Guild or Neverborn. Not quite so good for any other faction. In those cases, I'd just get a box from whatever faction you want.
The Scion of Black Blood is interesting from a Neverborn perspective, since it has a gun and condition removal. Not sure how he really compares to hiring Johan though.

What's the best way to get into the game? Buy a starter crew of the faction you like and then continue getting the other masters of the faction? Or just buy the starter crews you like even though they are of a different faction? I'm torn between Collodi and Colette and can't really choose, but even though I like most Neverborn masters, the only Arcanist I like is Colette.

Well, from a gameplay perspective you declare your faction, then build crews/armies (including your master) after you find out what you're playing. In that sense, you're probably better off buying into a faction that has more masters you like overall if you're just starting out.

Karina without upgrade is a 5ss totem who has one super situational ability and kind of sucks at everything else. NB without upgrade is 10ss of 'dies to anything'. Faces of the Void (iirc) and Void Shield are mandatory for both of them.
