After several days in the woods, and one on a stiff hospital bed, you can't help but sleep in a bit once you return to your own. You wake up after giving yourself an extra couple of hours, and head downstairs to eat breakfast. Your uncle seems to have anticipated the late awakening, and has only just started fixing your meal.
You join him in the kitchen to help out, then quickly eat together before he has to get the shop ready for the day.
"I could barely believe it, Kon." your uncle tells you. "You've got so many great friends and colleagues, and you all looked like you were having a great time. That mission of yours really must have brought everyone's spirits up. Let me tell you, that's the dream right there. Good on you, kid."
Thinking about it, this actually was the first time anyone's been able to deal any real damage to Akatsuki. It makes sense that everyone's excited, though you still have work to do.
But not right now. You haven't been given any instructions on your return, and until you're given some, you have time to do as you wish. After finishing breakfast, you leave your house and think over what you want to do.

Thinking over what kind of training you can do, and who you can train with, your mind drifts to Haku. You remember him performing one handed seals. Perhaps if he could teach you, you could use jutsu more efficiently.
You head off to find Haku in his usual training spot, behind the Yamanaka's flower shop. He's swinging that giant sword with one hand again, as diligently as ever. He stops and takes a break as he notices you arrive.
"Hello, Kon." he greets you. "I had a wonderful time at the celebration last night. I must make my way to your uncle's restaurant more often. We don't seem to have any missions coming up, and the Hokage has given us some time to ourselves. Did you come to train with me? Ino is off with her mother today, so I wouldn't mind the company."

Haku seems to be in a good mood. Hopefully you can get him to teach you his secret.
"Sure thing, Haku." you tell him. "I was actually curious about those one handed seals you were using. Do you think you could teach me?"
Haku puts his hand to his chin and thinks to himself for a bit.
"I suppose I might be able to." he muses. "I never really thought about it. I kind of just learned how to do it on my own. But I'll try."
For the rest of the day, Haku tries to explain how one handed seals work. It's slow going, since he needs to think about it before he tells you, but you feel like you begin to understand.
In theory, anyway. Channeling your chakra with only half of the usual seals is quite the endeavor, and it may take weeks until you get it down. But now that you get the concept, you can practice on your own in your spare time.
As the afternoon drags on, Ino and her mother return with tons of flowers. Ino smiles and waves at the two of you, before a concerned look spreads over her face. She comes over to you.
"You two been training all day without eating, haven't you?" she accuses. "You can't keep doing that! Come on inside, and mom and I will get you something."
Ino goes inside, and Haku looks to you.
"I've taught you what I can, I think you can manage on your own from here." Haku says. "You don't have to stick around if you don't want to, I'm sure there are many other things you want to do today."

The two of you go inside, and take a seat around the table as Ino and her mother fix some food for you and Haku.
They bring it out and sit with you.
"Thank you for your generosity Ino, Mrs. Yamanaka." you say, before you begin eating.
"Oh, think nothing of it." Ino's mother responds. "Ino's always been bringing friends over, she's just a social butterfly. But Haku's friend coming over is a rare occurrence. It's a shame, he's such a nice young man. I hear you and your teammates were the ones who helped him out and brought him here. I have to thank you, it's been wonderful to have him here, he's like the perfect son I never had. So diligent and compassionate."
"Talk about a stroke of luck huh, mom?" Ino adds. "No doubt the best thing that's ever happened to us."
Haku looks almost embarrassed to hear himself talked about like that. Despite usually staying calm at Ino's comments, he must not be used to flattery like that from her mother.

It is, actually. Enma, the boss summon of the monkeys, can turn into a copy of the Monkey King's staff. Makes for a really powerful weapon due to being able to change its size and mass at will, and can split apart into multiple staves at once. We haven't really learned to wield it yet, though, since we don't quite have enough chakra to summon Enma as a main weapon all the time. It's part of the plan for later on down the line.

Though more complicated jutsu may take a while, you feel like you're already close to using basic jutsu with a single hand. That couldn't take more than a few days of practice.
You also try to practice increasing your speed again. You're fast, but you haven't gotten much faster since you trained under Sarutobi Sensei. From the bingo book entry, your mother apparently had incredible speed too, so it only seems appropriate. You train, but it will take quite some time to increase your speed by a significant amount. You'll have to keep a regimen up.
As it starts to get dark, you head back home. You eat dinner with your uncle, then get to bed.
As you leave your house the next morning, you see a giant toad outside of the Hokage's office. Not a common occurrence these days. Something may be up.

We need to tell Itachi that the leaf is in danger, we have prisoners, information on pain and the three tails. We need to act fast and be ready. They will come for us and likely when the kage is away. We need to move the kid and prisoners the fewer whom know the better
So it's not out of character knowledge for us to assume that they're being remotely controlled, right? I mean, Sasori was just killed, so we're already primed to think in terms of puppets. Even if they looked like people, we know that corpse puppets are a thing. I don't think it would even be too far a leap to go to "those weird piercings let him puppet them at long distance without chakra wires", and figure out that trick, too. At the very least that's less of a stretch to assume than "they're the congealed dying will of Uchiha Madara except not really because they're actually the hidden third son of the elder demon Kaguya (who was really an alien) who tricked Madara into thinking he created them as part of their plan to revive their mom".

However, if they do attack the village and too many of my elite ninja are gone, the village may certainly be forfeit. A delicate balance may have to be achieved. "I will take this time to train at Mount Myoboku." Sasuke announces. Jiraiya looks at him incredulously. "I will undergo the sage training. With it, no enemy will be beyond me. Not Pain, not Naruto."
"I don't think you have what it takes to finish that training yet." Jiraiya chuckles. "But I'd like to see you try."

You think on what to do. Sasuke's declaration has made you eager to go off on training of your own, but you can't just leave the village that easily when you could help.

You say goodbye to Neji and Sasuke as the three of you part ways, then go to search for Konohamaru. You find him at the same training ground as before, drilling his teammates again.
Ebisu is also here, but he seems content to let Konohamaru handle things.
"Come on you two, Chunin exams are in two months, you guys don't want to get shown up, do you?" he shouts.
He turns to greet you as you approach.
"What's up, bro?" Konohamaru asks with a smile. "That party was great!"
You tell Konohamaru about your intention to train under Enma for the next month, and he gets excited.
"Finally! I've been waiting for this!" he flails his arms a bit. "This is going to be so cool! I'll go get my stuff!"
Before anyone can tell him otherwise, he runs off back home. His teammates stop their training and look around in confusion before receiving directions from Ebisu and heading off. Ebisu comes over to you.
"I take it you and the young master will be training together?" he asks. "I know he's stronger than I realize, but please take care of him. I'm counting on you."
After giving you his approval, Ebisu leaves. It seems there's no issue on Konohamaru accompanying you.

You stop by Kiba's place to find him chilling with his girlfriend again. You tell him that both you and Sasuke are going off for training for a month.

He thinks one of two things. The first possibility is that he thinks what Obito lets the majority of Akatsuki think, that the Ten Tails is going to be used as a superweapon to convince people to be nice to each other by nuking everyone every time there's war. That makes him a horrid tyrant, and therefore has betrayed humanity. You've only seen him here a couple of times, but apparently it's part of his usual routine. He must have the names of some important people on there, but you've never heard him talk about it.
"Oh, Kon. How are you?" Kakashi asks as he notices you. "Quite the celebration the other day. You deserved it, though. You've already grown into quite a capable shinobi."
You tell your teacher about your plans for the month. He seems unfazed.
"Just going to keep moving up aren't you, Kon?" he muses to himself as he looks back at the grave. "I guess you boys have got your own things going on now. I really had fun being you guys' teacher, you know. Before then, I was just a wreck. I had lost too many people, and wasn't willing to get close to anybody. I like to think that you kids helped me as much as I helped you."
Kakashi turns back, and you can see the smile beneath his mask.
"Good luck, Kon." he says. "I know you'll keep surprising me with how strong you get. After all, you've got things to protect."
It's getting late at this point, so you head home.
Over dinner, you tell your uncle about your training.
"Oh, I'm used to it by now." he says. "You just keep going, I don't mind. The stronger you get, the better! You're doing us all proud!"
After eating, you go up to your room and get your things together, then get to bed.
Starting tomorrow, the next phase of your training begins.
