Greetings and welcome to the wasteland!

In this Civ Quest we will be trying to rebuild our own little slice of civilization in the post-nuclear wasteland and all that it entails.

But first we need to decide who shall run this new enterprise and choose what is S.P.E.C.I.A.L (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck) about them. First to three votes is chosen.

>Super Mutants
(S:High P: Average E: High C:Low I: Low A: Low: L: Average)

>Humans
(S:Average P:Average E: Average C: High I: Average L: Average)

>Ghouls
(S: Average P: Low E: Average C: Average I: Average L: High)

>Robots
(S: Average P: Average E:High C: Low I: High L: Low)

And which wasteland should these intrepid settlers make their new home? Again first to three votes decides.

(Well as long as we're reasonably sure it's not samefagging, Robots and Vault it is)

Hello! And Welcome to Vault 127! This vault is wholly unique for being the only one being fully maintained by only robot leaving the human residents living in the lap of luxury...if there were any vault tec registered humans to serve that is since for some reason the vault doors were improperly sealed causing the inhabitants to die of radiation when the bombs dropped, 200 years later the doors have opened allowing all manner of wasteland nonsense to come in and out.

As of now there's 20 robots in the vault.

1 Overseer designated Mr. Handy

9 Standard Mr. Handy's

3 Construction type Protectron

2 standard Protectrons

2 eyebots

2 Sentry bots

1 Assaultron

The Vault currently has the following faculties:
1 Large Robot Storage Room
1 Nuclear Generator
2 Empty Human Living and Sleeping Areas
1 Construction Workshop
1 Disused Hydroponics Room
1 Empty Large Storage Room
1 Security office
1 Overseer Office

With the the Vault Doors reopened the robots come back online after shutting down when the last humans of the vault died. With no human instruction however they will have to fend and decide on what to do for themselves.

>Study humans in detail

The eyebots are sent back to the Vault, while a Construction Protectron, a Mister Handy, and a Regular Protectron travel to Scraptown and study it and the humans extensively.

At first no one seems to pay the robots mind. It appears this settlement of roughly 15 humans has some robots of it's own in the form of a Robobrain and a Mister Handy serving drinks in the ram shackled bar in the center of the town. Both bots are in grave disrepair and rusty in various places.

Eventually people start to wonder whose robots these are and when no one knows they begin to argue among themselves over who gets to keep the shiny comparatively new looking robots.

"Who the fuck is Vault-tec?" Says one of the younger humans. "It's one of them pre-war companies, made all them vaults where the fancy lads with the yellow and blue suits come from." Says an Elder "But since they be all dead and shit it's not like we can contact them. I say we give them to bar to help the other bots." To which several arguments arise among them as the rest of the bots begin repairing and polishing the robobrain and the Mr. Handy in the bar. The humans see this and decide to let them stay in the bar for awhile, much to the relief of the overworked bar waitress. Over the course of 24 hours the two bots are brought to full condition, or as much as they can be given 200 years of exposure to the elements.

Seeing as your robots none of the humans take you're request seriously, seeing as likely just a per-recorded message, or something in your programming that is unrelated to their problems. The robo-brain you helped repair does inform you all that the junk yard surrounding scrap yard should have all the resources you need. >Send two Handy's and a sentry into the junkyard, have them salvage what is needed and see what they can find of interest. Sentry is to protect, but not pursue anyone that engages the Handys.

The Sentry bot escorts the two Mr. Handy's into the junkyard around Scrap town. A few humans who were scavenging the place run away at the sight of the sentry bot. The two Mr. Handy's begin scanning the refuse and discarded rubble thoroughly. As expected mole rats do eventually appear but are no match for the Sentry bots lasers and missiles. The handy's eventually discover a broken suit of t-50b power armor, sadly missing both it's legs and arms. However it does have radiation scrubbers that could be modified and amplified to cleanse the vault.

Meanwhile the robots still at the bar overhear two settlers run in exclaim that a giant killer robot is in the junk yard. A few humans begin discussing forming a posse to destroy it.

The robots in the junkyard quickly collect the power armor and head back to the Vault.

The robots in the bar activate their speakers and give said message.

"Well looks like these Vault-tec fellers aren't dead after all...and they're using their robots to muscle in to our territory!" Says one human. The Elder thinks a moment and convinces the posse of other settlers to follow him to meet with the Overseer outside the Vault.

As they head over lead by the robots at the bar the robots that were in the junk yard deliver the power armor.

When the Humans arrive the Overseer in order to distinguish himself dons a bowler hat (one of the few articles of clothing not worn away in the vault) and greets them at the Vault entrance with the two Sentry bots back in guard position.

The Vault was originally supposed to have a robot overseer, the vault was indeed a social experiment to see how well totally pampered and protected humans would survive once released out into the wasteland. "Soo...you all are just a bunch of robots with nobody to work for? Well I'd offer to take ownership of ya but I think that would just cause an even bigger dispute over whose in charge as it is...also I don't want to tick off a bot who controls two sentry bots plus whatever else you got in there. Tell you what though, we'd be willing to trade ya just about anything we got for food, water, and protection. So what all do you have?"

Since food was meant to be grown, refrigerated, and eaten regularly out of the hydroponics farm the food stuffs were never preserved or canned and thus all decayed centuries ago. That said you do have 200 years worth of clean water preserved in radiation proof underground tanks. Sadly most of the luxury items were destroyed by time and radiation, that said the cigar and cigarette dispensers kept those preserved so you have a 2 century supply of them preserved as well.

>>43712390
Ya I wouldn't want to tick off a guy with 2 of those then either
>>
>>43712149
They will try to scam us with pre war money. But hell, we could buy everything with our stock.

I suggest we get air-filters and scrubbers

"We have water supplies available, as well as recreational tobacco products available, although I cannot vouch for their safety. Scrap metal will be useful for now, as will welding instruments if any are available."

Is the hydroponocs facility workable? We can aquire seed and begin cultivation imidately. Within a month or two we should have our first crops.

Ask for broken robots and electronics too
>>
Well sir once we've cleared out the radiation we'll be able to produce some nutritious fresh food again. But until then we have over 200 years worth of fresh water and many a fine smokeable if I do say so myself

>Agree to trading water, cigs, and protection for parts, fuel, information on the wasteland, and their assistance should it be needed.

>>43712503
"We also have farm plots in better state than the barren lands of the surface, so we could plant anything as long as we have seeds. This, of course, once we reduce the radiation levels inside the vault."
>>
>>43712390
Ooh, we had an indoor farm setup? We should get that going right away to trade with the meatlings.

Could we also get a quick description of the geography, is the vault built into a hill? And did Scrap Town look like a total piece of falling apart nonsense?
>>
Mr. Overseer offers to help them build a new, safer, better settlement in from of the vault to better promote safety, security, and trade. With their knowledge of the wasteland and fleshy bodies for cannon fodder, and our superior food production and technical knowledge, the city of Blast Door (real name pending) will be unstoppable.

>>43712528
I imagine we already had everything we needed to grow, we just never started because there was no need. I imagine the seeds would have been safely preserved.
>>
>>43712621
Im not sure if a single armor filter can clean a huge vault.

But we might clean the Air in the hydroponics.
>>43712496
Is right, we need a bigger filter-system.
>>
Can we build more robots and just kill the humans after this trade off?

>"Also electronics, and we can provide food growing services provided the seed once we're radiation free."

"Water and smokes, eh? Well send us a large shipment of both, say, once a week? And you can come down and take your pick of any scrap from the junk yard. Just keep your robo-claws off stuff inside the the town, and finders keepers is the law of the land around here when it comes to who gets something in the junk yard first. Understand?" The Elder counter offers. "You can call me Old Man Sampson, everyone else does. We don't have much beyond scrap and fuel, we're kind of the end of the line when it comes to trade routes around here."

>>43712621
The Vault is built into a hill and outside the vault is mostly flat arid dirt and sand land with the occasional grass patch and dilapidated building. Scrap town is less something falling apart and more something just cobbled together from the junk around.
>>
We should offer them to live in the vault as soon the place is clean and we get the food production running.

Or we use the vault as the sole provider of food and water , and turn junktown into a real town
>>
Is it just me or are we not really getting anything out of this deal? They're *letting* us take scrap from a scrapyard after they explicitly state first come first serve, we're giving them highly valuable resources.

They deliver us any electronic scrap or equipment they find in exchange for water and cigarettes, that's what I say, we shouldn't be doing the legwork on both ends.
>>
>>43712952
Sudden idea.
Begin searching for any broadcasts on AM, FM, longwave. Shortwave, fuckin every kind of signal type we can.
>>
>>43712952
We seem to be getting a raw deal here. Renegotiate for a set amount or value of scrap. Say, a T-60 power armor suit would be enough for several months, while otherwise would take many pounds of raw scrap.

>this one murderbot
>>
>>43712935
That's the main plan, but for now we have to milk them from everything they have. We've been dormant for 200 years, so information is the most precious resource we're lacking.
>>
>>43713057
I agree with you on the first point, but the second is just standard trade.

Besides, once we get the vault cleaned up we can tax the living hell out of anyone who comes to live there. We can finally fulfill our purpose as described by vault tech by founding a robo-utopia.

For the robots I mean, the humans may as well be very big pets at that point.
>>
>>43713094
This.

Our counteroffer:
We trade by weight, 2 to 1 for electronics and wiring, 1 to 10 for scrap metal.

In addition, we are willing to aid in the construction and refurbishing of scrap towns infrastructure and defence in exchange for a percent share in all salvage (not including food) recovered.

Mr. Overseer was a banking robot before he was repurposed; fragments of his old programming remain.
>>
>>43713268
Supported!

After the first week, start calling Sampson to some "walks" to talk about the current state of the world. Mask it as a survey to help us improve the town and get into on our surroundings and living beings in general. 200 years is a long time to catch up.
>>
(while you are all discussing your counter offer I'm going to have dinner real quick)
>>
>>43713120
That isn't in the programming. You will be schedule for re-programming. Please don't be stressed.
>>

With the scrubber on the power armour rigged to work on the outside of the suit, the decontamination of the greenhouse begins.

However the assaultron still insists on wearing the power armour in order to "ensure security and stability of the vault." It now refers to itself as "The Purifier." Dissent is met with law enforcement.

"Hmmmm, fair enough I guess. Regarding the trade ratio, however the "Green Lord" might not like us building better defenses. Though you don't know who that is I reckon." Sampson begins to give you a quick summary over the past 200 hundred years, the land crawling with raiders, radiation storms, death claws, giant mutant animals, the use of caps as currency, and most importantly the rise of super mutants. Seems one of them is a bit smarter then the others has calls himself the Green Lord, and has a protection racket going for several settlements under threat of super mutant attack. He worries building up their defenses would cause Green Lord to test it.
>>
>>43713832
Well, we can't have that, can we? We must take down the Green Lord. Not immediately, obviously, but the Green Lord is a major threat. For now, say that we won't help renovate their city.
>>
>>43713832
No need to puss green fag off right away. We should work on constructing more offensive bots with scrap metal and plan to retrieve our fellow boys from the town.
>>
>>43713832
Hm. Then we shall hold off on building defenses for now, until we can test this "Green Lord's" power.
>>
>>43713832
So, we got a world now. How about start building minor defenses, small things that are easy to use, just to prevent the town from being wiped off the map. At the same time, we need to start creating more of our own if we want to face Green Lord later on.
>>
>>43713911

Set up remote controlled missiles in the dirt rigged to go off when we want them to. Should be a great defensive Measure regardless who are fighting.
>>
>>43713832
Perhaps we could offer to build down instead.
>We dwarf fortress now

At the very least we need to keep ourselves a secret from the protection racket. Only one of our Handys in town at a time, deliberately looking dilapidated to look normal, and keep an eye out for visits so we can remain hidden.
>>
>>43713832
Inquire: Green Lord?
>>
>>43713911
Thirded.

In addition, we should have both eyebots go scouting farther, searching for everything from more settlements to radio signals.
>>
>>43714045
We might also need a human face, if we are discovered. Having one of the humans "claim" us can prevent us from being seen as a threat.
>>
>>43714038
Even if we can build these, our resources will probably be better used in more robots.
>>
>>43713832
Rig the town for when green lord comes by and blow it up with all the organics

>>43713911
>>
>>43714104
I haven't played 4 yet, to my sorrow, but if we ever hear about them in game we should seek out synths. The one in 3 was a bro, so maybe we could find more like him who just want to be left alone.

"Alright then, still as long as we're in agreement on trade that should be fine. We lost a caravan not to long ago and we need to keep paying protection somehow. Green Lord likes his smokes so this should do just fine. I'll let the depot now about the trading situation and set it up." He says and his group and him leave back for town.

Meanwhile before the day is out you manage to get the power suits radiation scrubbers working with amplified modifications. Though it will take about two weeks to clean the whole vault of radiation.

You can now trade water and tobacco by the pound for the following ratios:

2 to 1 for electronics and wiring

1 to 10 for scrap metal.

We need to scout for a source of water. While we possess significant water reserves, we do not have a permanent supply of water. Certain seeds will be useful as well, given our hydroponics facilities. Wood perhaps, for lumbar construction or tobacco plants for more cigarettes.

On the other hand, we need to scout more. What's the altitude ceiling of our Eyebots?
