Anyone tried out this bad boy yet? I'm looking of grabbing one as a poor man's substitute for Ulamog
>>
Is it me or does all of Chandra's Planeswalkers cards suck? Especially in EDH.

Doesn't help that even lore wise she's boring.
>>
>>43704646
The one with the outpost siege ability is okay. Because of the outpost siege ability. Also she can remove a blocker if you really need it
>>
>>43704247
>>43704514
Isn't Jhoira technically an artificer?

>>43704670
The copy instants/sorcery ability one is also nice.
>>
>>43704688
She has the Wizard subtype but I don't know much about her, lore-wise

I've wanted to build with her for a while and just dump out fatties for nothing
>>
>>43704745
Lore wise she is an artificer.

The suspend counters ability comes from her being fucked with by the time rift.
>>
>>43704575
its not in the least, have you taken a brick to the head
>>
>>43704646
Chandra, Pyromaster is actually good because she is card draw and a way to deal with elves.

Question time nerds.
>Which 2015 commander deck is your favorite and why?
>Favorite deck exclusive
>Least favorite deck/why
>>
>>43704688
In early magic she was always called an artificer. Her card in future sight was wizard because it didn't involve artifacts.

A new Jhoira would be the most likely candidate.
>>
>>43704760
Ok clarification: "Poor man's giant eldrazi abomination"
>>
>>43704796
the red blue one because it seems like the start of a good deck. Mizzix's Mastery is fucking awesome. fuck the red white one i had hopes and it crushed them.

>>

>>
>>43704932
Me neither.
>>
>>43704796
Probably B/W, because Karlov is cool. Really shitty product overall though. Obviously the worst is the red/white for confirming that red/white can't do interesting things or they break the color pie.
>>
>>43704247
My boros feels trump your izzet feels.

"RW is never getting a 'salt the earth' land destruction general"
>>
>>43704796
I bought the BW one cause I really wanted to do a BW enchantment deck, but I have to say it kinda disappoints. Looking into UG or BG now.
Favorite exclusive is Karlov. He's hilarious, he can grow stupid large like it's nothing and exile is not to be underestimated. Plus, he's 2 mana. 2. What the shit. I did next to nothing to throw a deck for him together and it still works. Tiny lifegain triggers everywhere.
>>
>>43705148
Tax AND Land destruction commander?
>>
>>43705241
I can only get so erect anon.
>>
>>43704575
That card is pretty gross if no one has an answer right away
>>
>>43704575
Easiest archenemy card of BFZ. Never seen a player win after getting it out.
>>
im trying to make a crosis deck with myriad lines of play. the general theme is low cmc and mana disruption but there's also stupid combos, huge beaters (nettlevine blight), ramp, etc.
i need 2 more competetive/semicompetetive U, R, or B creatures with STATIC effects. What I have so far is Nightscape Familiar and Goblin Electromancer.
I don't know how to search for this kind of thing on magiccards.info except by exclusion, so I was thinking it would be more efficient if 4chan spoonfed me for once.

you're my Only hope /tg/
>>
>>43705407
Archenemy card?
>>
>>43705613
Everyone teams up against you.
>>
>>43704646
Ablaze is pretty strong. The miniwheel is particularly effective against those players that love hoarding cards in their hand, and dealing 4 damage to anything when you discard Squee is an amazing plus ability. It chunks out other walkers and kills a fairly large portion of problematic creatures.

I also actually enjoy Nalaar in monored. When Prime time was everywhere, in first three her in because of a quick -6 to drop them. I still use her for the repeated removal and the occasional +1. She's great with Arc Bond.

My monored is currently Chandra, and its better than I was expecting, which wasn't much.

Chandra in general is actually good for keeping other Planeswalkers in check because she doesn't give a fuck about your walk of blockers and pillow forts.
>>
>>43705241
It will be hard to make interesting.
Wait, were talking of a RW commander, nevermind.

Basic lands for colorless commanders are coming
>>
>>43704796
I'm having a really hard time picking between BG and UR. They both seem not only really powerful but really fun.
Favorite single is probably Kalemne. Lol, no, definitely the new Insect commander.
Least favorite is the RW deck of course. I like the idea of Boros colors but the execution always seems lackluster.
>>
>>43705732
Muh dick.

Most colorless commanders run non-basic utility lands because they don't have to worry about color fixing.

On the plus side colorless land ramp like Myriad Landscape and Solemn Simulacrum now work for colorless commanders. And colorless basics is protects from non basic MLD like ruination.
>>
Simple:

Experience counters for destroying nonbasic lands
Spells opponents control cost more to cast for each experience counter you have.
>>
>>43705873
So...

Whenever a non-basic land is put into an opponent's graveyard, you gain an experience counter

Spell your opponent control cast 1 more to cast for each experience counter you have.

Kalemne isn't that bad desu

Boring yes but she's a brutal beat stick that draws a lot less hate than Aurelia until you have a 13/8 double strike vigilance hexproof trampler with infect and indestructible
>>
>>43705974
Good luck getting all those voltron elements while casting fatties every turn in the worst colors for ramp in the format.
>>
>>43705931
Likely by the time you've got 10 mana open you probably already have all the colorless card draw you need.
>>
>>43705974
How are you building your Kalemne? I just bought the deck as a way to get back into EDH. I'm thinking an equipment-Voltron theme.
>>
>>43706045
>I just bought the deck as a way to get back into EDH
Prepare to lose lad.
>>
>>43706045
I'm turning mine into soldier tribal. Looks fun.
>>
>>43706045
Replace the Kalemnewith Brion and pursue the tribal giant sub theme and shove in as many low cmc mana rocks as you can.
>>
>>43706062
So I've been told, but I'm willing to try it. How's Gisela as a commander?
>>
>>43705995
Personally games last longer than 10 turns in my playgroup, everyone playing big creatures, lots of turns to play big fatties and then lots of turns to drop artifacts after the board has been wiped.
>>
>>43706008
So you build the deck around playing your hand out the turn prior
>>
>>43706121
Infinite obliteration, artifacts, gg
>>
>>43706103
Fun as fuck.
>>
My group, who makes a little bit more money than I do, want to make 1 hyper competitve deck a piece. No holds barred, pedal to the metal 100% degenrate win-at-all-costs.

My decks are abput 65-75% decks, and I'll list my commanders in the order of least expensive to most expensive to get up there. What deck should I absolutely break open?

Slobad
Sharuum
Roon
Niv-Mizzet

I'll be playing against combo Oona, Prosh, Omnath and Oloro.
>>
>>43706231
5-color with Tooth and Nail and Triskelion, Mikaeus, Kikijiki and Resto. Just ramp to either and hit for infinite
>>
>>43706264
I mean, all I really need to complete sharuum is nothing. I just need to be that dick and put it together. Maybe get phyrexian metamorph.
>>
>>43706206
How is she build? Or rather, how do you build her?
>>
>>43706310
I build her as RW goodstuff with Gisela as a finisher.
>>
>>43705995
>while casting fatties every turn
I beg your pardon? You don't have to cast fatties just because Kalemne has the phrase "converted mana cost 5 or greater" in her text box, ya dunce.
The basic chassis on Kalemne is very close to rafiq in terms of "personally killing people", trading Exalted for VIgilance, and Kalemne has red for different ways to clear out chaff blockers. The experience counter mechanic is just a random bonus if you ever get it going.

>>43705558
phyrexian revoker? honestly you're going to have a hard time idk what you have against triggered abilities
>>
>>43706550

If you want voltron, then Iroas is better for having built in evasion. If you don't want voltron, then everything is better for having relevant abilities.

And while Kaleme may be cheaper than Aurelia, it's not cheaper in a relevant way. Aurelia comes down a turn later at most (in a well built deck obviously, not yours), and has haste, built in, which means she's relevant the same turn as Kaleme.

Meanwhile, Aurelia's ability works like double strike for all your creatures, while also untapping looters, wayfarers, and heartless dudes.

On a more positive note, I've just found the new art for Rakroma. Good lord that's hot. I may finally make that mono red deck I've been meaning to for a while.
>>
>Kalemne's Captain doesn't have Lieutenant

for what purpose
>>
Arjun was probably a scraped version of Niv-Mizzet that was revived and altered.

6cmc 5/5 flying wizard in Izzet colors that does card draw shenanigans.

They probably didn't want two Izzet league commanders in one set.
>>
I keep trying to think of ways to build around Arjun but I'm at a loss
>>
Picked up the red precon from last year. I hear it's one of the better ones out of the box, but if I'm running Feldon, what should I swap out?

So I decided today that I want to make noyan dar.
The best method I can think of is a high land count, tons of cantrips, counterspells, and a few UW goodstuff creatures.
Anyone have a deck and play it differently? I could use suggestions, I've never made a deck like this.

1UR - Legendary Artifact Creature

Whenever you cast an artifact spell, you get an experience counter.

i've done the mulligan drills you patronizing prick, i know how much effort it takes to t4 aurelia compared to t3 kalemne, and one of them is more vulnerable to disruption - hint, it's the more expensive general
you're obviously a more experienced Rx player than I am, so I will stop posting and defer to your judgment that aurelia has better options for defraying risk overall, but when you're just throwing out caustic one-liners like some random cunt with more prejudgment than sense that's not something that can be cottoned on to

Thinking of building some form of life gain deck.

What's the overall feeling of playing against life gain? Is it thought of as cancerous? Is it being a dick if I play Felidar Sovereign after being above 40 life?
>>
>>43707685
Because creatures don't combo as hard as artifacts. What, did you think it was because of Blightsteel?

Artifact Daxos would actually be good based purely on how useful artifacts are and how easily both blue and red can manipulate them. It's sort of a shame how flimsy enchantments are relative to artifacts. At least they're harder to destroy.

Hey, so I just realized that I have a fair number of dual colored and mono decks, so I might as well finish the rest of the colors.

R - Chandra (usually Ashling) burn control
G - Nylea Monster Mash
B - Liliana MBC
W - Akroma Angel Tribal life gain
U - Open. Thinking Tromokratis or Tef walker
BG - Pharika Rock and land affliction
BR - Open
BW - Open
BU - Open thinking Vela, but Wydwen is fun
GR - Open thinking Ulasht or Atarka
GU - Ezuri mana dork murder in the works
Gw - Saffi or Sevela dorks in the works
RW - Open
RU - Open
UW - Hanna Control

I also have a Jeleva deck that I'm not taking apart, which makes UR difficult.

Any ideas? I want to have a bunch of different styles across the board, and some colors I just don't play often. Like UR. Never played it before.

the day I stop being caustic to name fags who unironically use the phrase "cottoned on to" is the day that my life satisfaction has likely jumped through the roof, and is a long way off. For now I'm quite happy to be a bitter curmudgeon to the likes of you.

That being said, it isn't that hard to get a fast aurelia off as long as Sol Ring and Mana Crypt have the Casual Seal of Approval, and her ability is far more mechanically interesting than Kalemne. Seriously, try her out, it opens up so many different lines of play compared to Kalemne's lack thereof

Kalemne is just so boring and lackluster compared to other generals that it's an insult to red/white players everywhere. People inevitably compare her to rafiq, but rafique opens up two of the best colors in the format, while being able to give double strike to other creatures, which is interesting for things like Cephalid constable. None of that is the case with Kalemne.

I like that idea. I might have to do that. God damn. I'll probably be switching Akroma over to Nahiri anyway.

>>43709482
>U
Thadda was taken apart after one night. Way too much hate, but it worked. I keep forgetting Geralf exists at all. If I went back to Gisa in mono black, I think I would try to make him playable. Sun Quan is a classic choice, though I do not own one. Jalira on the other hand seems like a lot of fun. I used her in my Rubina list for obvious reasons. I think she would be the most fun in the list.

>BR
See Kaervek above. Mogis on the other hand is the style of deck that I enjoy, but I'm not sure if I could get it to work in EDH. By that I mean I totally could, but it would take effort. There's always Minotaur Tribal or at least themed. I'll consider his possibilities.

>Teysa
The tried and true classic. I want a proper token deck, and I love the black token makers like Bloodline Keeper. White is usually a shoe in for tokens anyway, so it seems obvious. She just gets a lot of hate for being hyper combo.

>Lazav
He's good. I forgot about him because there were 5 people that used him on release that have since dismantled their decks. Maybe it's my turn.

>Borga Borga
He's a good choice for a druid/dork deck that I always glance over, though Ezuri might take that call. He is considered now.

>RW
I know, man. I might end up with Gisela, though I'm crazy enough to try Anya

>Arjun
He looks interesting, but I am hesitant on the grounds that he seems hyper linear. I have a hard time believing that every game won't devolve into the same thing.
>>
>>43708862
Make UR Jhoira Dragons/Krakens or Eldrazi/Colossi depending how serious you want the deck to be.
>>
>>43710512
I would love to make a Jhoira deck. Trust me, the problem is that someone beat me to it, and they didn't hold back. Jhoira is very kill on sight here, but God damn I want to do it. I worry that it would be too similar.
>>
>My group has suggested not allowing Anya because one player thinks she's just too good in an aggro matchup

I am completely fucking baffled how that guy, who studies game theory WAY more than the rest of us and is usually the most skilled player at the table sucks so badly at Commander evaluation.

I KNOW he's smart, I've seen abundant evidence of it, and yet every now and then he says shit like "Gisela is overpowered in EDH," "Edric is fine," "Narset isn't going to be any good".

I begin to suspect his otherwise valid instincts for the game are completely overwhelmed by his bias towards RUG with an emphasis on U and his burning, irrational hatred for all things R/W. And WB lifedrain, for some reason.
>>
>>43710512
>>43710617
UR Dragonstorm is a definite thing that is possible with Jhoira.
>>
>>43710773
>Anya
Make a shit Anya deck, pilot it horribly. Then after they give it a pass upgrade it.
>>
>>43710443
>He looks interesting, but I am hesitant on the grounds that he seems hyper linear. I have a hard time believing that every game won't devolve into the same thing.
I built him the day after the precons came out. I think its super fun. There are a million and a half wincons to use that all turn out relatively differently. you can use tunnel vision to put an arbitrary amount of your deck into the yard, sphinx's tuetlige to mill people out, diviner one to get arjun into oneshot range, thout reflection or archive with lab maniac to draw yourself to victory. Best part is you can make room for some super niche or pet cards due to the constant cycling making it ok to get a dead draw or two.
>>
>>43710884
>>43710617
>>43710512
Running Jhoira as an artificer is also a possibility.
>>
>>43709898
>>43709963
I brought this up to my mates and both of them asked me why I thought that way and now I'm not so sure. Blue and white, it turns out, also had more Awaken spells than the other colors did. One of them said that the spells were meant to represent spells cast by the Kor and the merfolk. So now I'm all unsettled.
>>
>>43711057
Maro basically had a cop out "All of Zendikar would be green mechanics-wise" so they had to spread it around.

I understand awakening being available too all colors, but blue and white should not have the majority of it
>>
New Kozilek is going to make a sick commander. I need to pick up a Lion's Eye Diamond for it
>>
>>43710443
You could always do Grenzo, Ghost Council, and Anya (soley for waifu and politics).
I'm starting up an Anya deck and it's kinda lookin' goofy, but I like it.

Borbaborga should be used as land combo and nothing else, in my opinion.

Arjun is a boss ass bitch and if you don't think so then I'm sorry, friend.
>>
>>43711131
Why would your group let you play an obviously fake general?
>>
Alright, so I got the Daxos deck, and here are my modifications

Cut:
Banshee of the Dread Choir (Not good enough)
Celestial Archon (French vanilla creatures or mediocre aura in a deck that tries to go wide)
Dawnglare Evoker (Seriously Wizard? fuck you.)
Deadbringer Lampads (Hey, look, a bad constellation card that gives weak evasion)
Ghostblade Eidolon (Again, weak creature, or aura in a deck that tries to go wide)
Herald of Host (Not good enough)
Karlov of the Ghost Council (not enough synergy in the deck)
Kor Sanctifiers (not efficient enough)
Nighthowler (*Usual Bestow creature critic*)
Silent Sentinel (I dislike 7-mana cards with no advantage straight-away. also, not enough synergy with CASTING spells)
Teysa, Envoy of Ghost (pretty much the same thing as Silent sentinel)
Orzhov Cluestone (Bad mana rock)
Grave Peril (It just looks weak to me.)
Necromancer's Covenant (very little synergy with the deck)
Seal of Cleansing (Not efficient enough)
Both Vows (of very little use in my opinion)
Ancient Cravings (I'd rather Sign in blood or Read the bones)
Gild (Talk about unefficient removal)
Dawn to Dusk (I just don't like it.)
Shielded by faith (I DON'T LIKE AURAS)
>>
>>43710884
That is true. I guess you would suspend a shitload of anything and then Dragonstorm? It would be nice to not play "lol suspend Obliterate xD" and maybe clear so.e hate out of the air in the group.

>>43710997
This would be nice for flavor reasons, but I'm wondering how it would work in practice. Most artifacts in artifact decks come out long before Jhoira would (like Crypt and Vault, which I don't have).

>>43710984
Maybe. It's something different, but I can't shake the feeling he'll end up like Nekursar ie homogeny.dec. By that I mean, every dekd is the same. I'll keep him in mind, though.

>>43711137
>Grenzo

I forgot about him. I'm missing a lot of the pieces he needs, but he's definitely unique and powerful.

>Council
Eh. I have mixed feelings. He doesn't seem like he does enough, but at least he is hard to remove. I like Gain and Drain tactics, but he seems iffy. They both do.

>>43711137

>Ezuri
I put Master Biomancer and that new Bloodspine Thrinax or whatever its name was in mine. Feels good to pump either of them with Ezuri and get massive shit out (though it does usually stop your XP counters from being produced, which isn't necessarily bad if you simply get 9/9s instead of 2/2s while also taking aggro off of your commander).

Also, Deadeye Navigator + Mystic Snake or Draining Whelk (or any creature, really) for great value and a 2 CMC counter whenever you want.

Fable of Owl and Wolf also helps if you feel like ramping a bit to get it out quickly.
>>
>>43712282
Oh, just noticed that you also have a bunch of Infect in there, might be worth to consider a Phyrexian Swarmlord.
>>
>>43712318
Oh god that'd be fantastic, especially because those insects trigger Ezuri's ability. Putrefax/ triumph of the hordes could be good additions if you want to go the infect route.
>>
>>43712386
Honestly, might as well shove Inexorable Tide in there, too, if one REALLY wants to go full-Infect, since Newzuri decks are absolutely able to go that route and get several Tide triggers off per turn, since the small creature count is often high.
>>
>>43712434
Also lets you proliferate your xp counters, thats pretty good. Bonus point because despite poison being considered a dick move, you're perfectly on flavor. Add contagion engine for extra lulz.
>>
>>43712479
Yeah, Proliferate works great with him.

Feel good. Giving the Prophet player basically 3 extra turns is awful.

Seedborn's not AS bad
>>
>>43713007
This. The problem is that it's epitome of UG fagotry. Seedborn is 5 mana, Leyline is 4 mana, Prophet is both for 5 mana. UGx decks are typically decks centered on creatures and card draw, which effectively gives a free then in between turns. "At the end of your turn...". Gets real fucking old real fucking fast. Removal only goes so far because they always have counter magic available by the very nature of the card itself.

It's not even fun to use anymore because again, unless they remove it right then and there, it's probably not going away and will launch me so far ahead, I'm not even playing the same game as everyone else.

Fuck Prophet.

>>43713007
It's not even the commander. I actually like Daxos and I do enjoy Constellation cards. It's the actually out-of-the-box deck that frustrates me. why did they make it such shit? why is there no mass Removal in a goddamn BW deck? why not, maybe, the goddamn black boardwipe that destroy each nonenchantment creature? why put fucking Deadbringer lampads when you have Toughtrender Lamia and Skybind? why the shitty Bestow creatures?

It's just overall a really badly designed deck, especially when compared to the B/G one, which is a pretty tight ship for a out-of-the-box deck. this one is just awful, non-synergistic, with very little answers to unadvantegeous board positions.

So yea, the guy who made this one was a lazy prick.

As much as everyone here bitches about Theros, do you think if they revisited it they could fix it? Or is it a tar baby that just gets worse the more you try?
I like enchantments, but constellation doesn't thrill me. Bestow doesn't either. It bothers me that Wizards idea of fixing enchantments is to just turn them into creatures with a Not!Rally mechanic.
>>
>>43713804
>Mulligan
What'S wrong with the mulligan? Outside of some retarded combo decks, it seems pretty much fine and helpful to almost every other deck out there but still balanced.
>>
>>43714078
All they had to do was start the block off with Constellation and create the fucking Enchantment Land, but no, too scared of how badly they fucked up Artifact Lands.
>>
>>43714444
I undertand not wanting to make the Enchantment lands, specially if they were making constellation. If they had, then they would've had to ether make all constellation effects weak as shit or have them cost extra mana.
>>
>>43714628
Instead they just made them all weak as shit AND we have no Enchantlands. Eidolon of Blossoms, Doomwake Giant, and Skybind are the only ones I can even think of that see play anywhere (and Doomwake is iffy as fuck in EDH, I probably wouldn't even play it there but I'm being generous)

Why not just a {T}: Odric style ability?

Like
>{T}: You choose which creatures block this combat and how those creatures block. Activate this ability only before blockers are declared.

Sure, your card lets you hold it up in case they make a block you're okay with, but this version is about 100 times cleaner to read.
>>
>>43715292
Renounce is significantly worse because you only get one trigger on Karlov since you are only gaining life once. With orb, you're gaining life one time per land because each one is its own separate trigger.

Karlov prefers to gain life a bunch of times as opposed to one big time.

Extort is nice, but again, one trigger. If you have 3 opponents and extort something, you gain 3 life once, not 1 life thrice. This is different than say Righteous Cause, which will trigger for every attacking creature. IE, someone attack with 4 creatures, you do actually gain 1 life four times.

Things that gain lumped life:
Extort, Exsanguinate, Debt to the Debtless, Scholar of Athreos, Benediction of Moons, Blessed Reversal, Elspeth, Path of Bravery, ect

Things that gain separate life:
Soul Sisters, Zuran Orb, Blood Artist, Dross Harvester, Righteous Cause, Curse of the Forsaken, ect

Maybe, I'm building Daxos but despite wanting to play fair-ish midrange game with enchantments I still have a couple infinite combos in case someone is being an edgelord.

That's my list, I'm considering taking out the reanimation package because it's not as consistent as I'd like in helping me emergency-combo off, but I don't know what to replace it with. My only design handicap is I don't use cards that don't exist in the modern frame.

stop

Why not? Ashnod's/phyrexian altar would be great in your deck
>>

Cards that already do that aren't nearly as good as her. Unbalanced and unreadable. 0/10

I wouldn't have guessed that was what you meant. So I'm the guy in that gif and you wish me to stop pinching your little cheeks?

Don't try to understand them. Anime warps their brains and they become incapable of realizing how esoteric and incomprehensible they've become.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant that my group was devolving into combo, and my deck as a result has shifted towards more towards answers rather than the aggro/group slug I originally built it to be.

I'm pretty sure each instance of extort triggers separately.

It's just a specific aesthetic choice+handicap I put on my non-spike decks because newer players tend to whine at the sight of old cards. I played Strip Mine against the same dude and he didn't whine about it when it was the Exiled print, but threw a fit about "how op old cards are" when he saw the Antiquities one weeks later.
I'd rather avoid that salt and I just like the new border more, it's easier on the eyes and despite knowing my cards by heart I still like reading them.

Besides, Altars would need a mana dump where Dementia/Station+Boonweaver/Titan+Unhallowed Pact/Gift of Immortality is game. So is Giant+Aura+Other Sac-Engine+Artist/Grim Guardian.

We could argue Daxos is a mana dump with Phyrexian Altar, but it's not an instant win and I usually only go for the combo if someone is about to do something incredibly faggoty like Boros Charm + Apocalypse.

Yes, but the life gain from each extort trigger is not. If you have 3 opponents, and 2 dudes with extort, then cast a spell and pay for both triggers, each opponent will lose 1 life, then you will gain 3 life, Karlov will trigger, then each opponent will lose 1 life, you gain 3 life, and then Karlov will trigger.

The point is that extort won't trigger Karlov once for beach opponent, it will trigger once. Now, if you had Exquisite Blood, then it would trigger for beach opponent.

I have a question of statistics for you, /edh/.

How many cards do you run in each deck for each type of card?
>Creature boardwipes?
>Non-creature and/or mixed boardwipes?
>Card flow?
>Creature spot removal?
>Enchantment/Artifact/Permanent spot removal?
>Card flow?
>Mana ramp?
>Pay off cards for you deck themes?
>Random good stuff cards?
>Lands?
>>
>>43719220
Yes.
>>
>>43719220
Depends wholly upon the deck archetype, and commander.
>>
>>43719220
I could post my decklists I have up on tappedout and let you figure all of that out. I don't have the patience to do it myself purely for the sake of satisfying your curiosity.
