For all your Dungeons the Dragoning needs! edition.

Someone commented in the last thread that this is a general that doesn't happen often enough, so I'm making it happen more often.

What are people doing in the way of games and/or characters right now?

Imagine a Jesus who flies off the handle and goes Old Testament a lot more often. As a Red Flame Mantle Sage that uses the Raging Locomotive style.
>>
>>43689105
My last game is long done and was rather short, so the ending wasn't really statisfying.
Our Party consisted of a mercenary crew with the following members:
>a Kenku Wraith Magitek Gunwoman that startet to dabble into the Heavy track to use that Dakkagun her late Orky Mentor left her with instead of her trusty Sniper Rifle. She was using her unexpected revival to a) get revenge for beeing murdered in the first place b) rebuild the merc-company her father was once leading. Wasn't big into Gods, but did the one or other Slaaneshi thing.

>Tiefling Demonhost Fight Guy that did what he wanted and doesn't afraid of anything. Wielding two Orichalchum Greatswords, one with his hands, one in his pants. Fucked about anything female aboard our ship except for said Kenku, the Eldarin and that underage rich girl we were transporting. Slaaneshi as fuck, but any khornate berserker would stare in awe and start fapping when he starts killing stuff. Once bit a hole into the Helmet of Power Armor with his bare teeth.

>Eldarin Atlantean Mage Lady that prefered to handle the talking because the remaining party was either incompetent, drunk, or both. Remained in the background and just kept casting support stuff.

>Tiefling Demonhost Assasin Lady that didn't do much as the player was absent after two sessions. Slaaneshi, sexed the guy above and that's about all the defining traits.

>Elf Paragon Berserker/Mech Pilot
Nice girl that wouldn't hurt anybody, but her parents were part of a Khornate Cult that pittet their children in deadly duels against each other to create the perfect warrior. She never even once got wounded and escaped as soon as she found a way out. Mentally scared for life and thus mute and antisocial as fightinh is all she can and knows, and she prefers to resolve things without violence. But once you tick her of she starts to RIP AND TEAR more than even the Fight Guy. Also has a Gundam to do this to enemy vehicles or spelljammers in neccessary.

I can't help but imagine him learning the art of combat from the Wrasslord Joseph, current heavyweight wheel champ.
>>
out of curiosity, does anyone from these /tg/ threads post to the forum?

I've posted maybe 4 times for suggestions, but what about you guys?

>tfw nobody from here posts to the forum.
>>
>>43690852
the forum and the board are loathesome enemies of one another

blood will be paid
>>
>>43690852
I did a little bit when LN was working on the system, then thought it died, then saw book 3 and went back to the forum and now mostly just lurk in case anyone posts to my existing threads so I can field questions or catch feedback. I've had little drive to actually develop any existing things though, and the environment on the forum does not feel conducive to real progress.
>>
>>43690852
I made the Goblin and the feats for it, but I sort of fell off afterwards due to family BS.
>>
>>43689935
Sounds like a fun game, shame it didn't last
>>
>>43691296
why would they be enemies?

surely a compromise is in order...the board and the forum may be of use to each other...
>>
I'm interested in the system but I wanted to know, could I use it without having to use the setting? And how lethal is the system using regular monsters and rules?
>>
>>43693073
The few enemies presented in the rulebook are rather deadly given sufficient numbers and lucky rolls. I had a bunch of 6 Orks with shootas almost dissasseble 4 freshly created exalts because they didn't understand the concepts of retreating or taking cover.
They all survived, but one was at 0 HP and another one lost his leg.

In a one on one fight though the boyz wouldn't stand a chance. Characters are rather fragile in the beginning but ramp up really fast, either in killing stuff befor it can act or just becoming walking tanks. As soon as someone reaches the end of a combat-oriented classtrack they are only threatened by equally strong or stronger entities, mooks mean almost nothing anymore.

Also sure, go nuts. The whole game is made to go ahead and include whatever you want. The damn setting is made to include whatever you want. Insert your world in a sphere that isn't in contact to the rest of the wheel and there you have your own setting working with everything else.
>>
>>43693073
>could I use it without having to use the setting?
that's half the fun, but yeah. there was work on adapting the system for the towards stars setting (aka Outlaw Star)
>>
>>43693292
>>43693321
Alright. Thanks everyone. I was looking into moving away from the sci-fi elements of the setting.
>>
>>43693523
Sure is helpful that there are a load of primitive weapon stats then, isn't it?

What did you have in mind anyways, friendo?
>>
>>43693780
I'm still working on the setting, but probably just a generic noblebright high adventure fantasy setting. Don't know much besides that. I'm still deciding what should be my major inspiration.
>>
>>43693816
Oh, neat. Gonna keep the gods in it?
>>
>>43694183
I'll probably reskin them. This is my first actual setting and not "Here's a vague depiction of a world. What do you wanna do?"
>>
>>43693073
I've been running a 'more-or-less' straight 40k game for 2 years. In short, its 40k with DtD's exalts explaining away the superbadass characters in the setting. Works really well.
>>
>>43695435
40k seemed to be one of the two big inspirations for the setting. Though, I have never played Magic the Gathering.
>>
>>43693321
And at least one thing from that made it to Book 3.
And it wasn't my purpose-built genetically engineered dinofolk of the human empire.

Speak for yourself. I've been busy recently, but I'll start posting more homebrew for Book 3 later. I've wanted to do Ducks for a while, so I might just do that.

Raging Locomotive is a must. It's why I made the Sword School.

There's also the Juggernaut Class Track. Look it up on the forum.
>>
>>43689457
So are there actual rules for making new npcs and enemies or were these numbers pulled out of the air? Cause I really want to write up some monsters.
>>
>>43699118
There's monster making rules on the forum, along with a bunch of new monsters and enemies to face.
>>
is there a sword school specifically utilizing the tactical motion of combatants??

things like tossing the dwarf(behind the enemy for a twin-fronted attack)

or a close change where the practitioner sprints into battle and uses their own momentum to hurl an individual from the combat back towards the players starting position?

or a greater bull rush for shoving an enemy or three into the effect radius of a spell

or just beating a motherfucker with another motherfucker...
>>
>>43701056
Try Raging Locomotive.

>>
>>43701334

>>
>>43701289
I keep hearing about Raging Locomotive. Is it really just the new catch-all sword school or something?
>>
>>43702815
It's one of the flashiest Sword Schools around, with lot's of movement and displacement. Amazing for some insane charging-stunts. Maybe that's the reason for being so popular.

Based upon Frankenstein's Monsters and other artificial chimeras.
A bunch of stuff which is basically "fuck you, I'm immune to certain stuff because no soul and artificially made". Also, some stuff based upon having weird bits in there, such as parts of Exalts and other races.

That, or some form of Mary Shelley reference.

Frankenstein, if you don't get it.
>>
>>43704772
I know, not good with names, but definitely an alternative promethean
>>
>>43704694
Yeah, the current thing has a modal power that lays down how it interacts with certain spells and otherwise basically goes "are you a Frankenstein's Monster (technological origin) or a DnD Flesh golem (magical origin)" and then gives you a bunch of bonuses and penalties based upon which one you pick.

>>43704772
...I literally said it was a Frankenstein's Monster based Exaltation.
>>
>>43704978
sounds cool. have you given any thoughs to the feats?
>>
>>43704999
Yes.
I may have made one of the assets a little too strong, as it allows you to get to resilience 9 and AP either 2 or 4 all over at level 1. Okay, you have to take a very specific set of things, but I'm still thinking I might tone it down.
>>
>>43705049
Actually, just to make it absolutely clear:
I have a Tell, 4 basic powers, all the Integration (the power stat) powers, and all the assets. All that's missing is a bit of fluff and a decent name for the Exaltation.
>>
>>43705049
>>43705109
For fluff I can think of "prometheans, but made by biologist engineers" and a cool name...

It just struck me how hilarious is that the title of the novel of Frankesntain is also "The moderm Promethean". Bioconstruct maybe?
>>
>>43705109
Did you see this yet?

http://s4.zetaboards.com/LawfulNice/topic/10368547/1/
>>
>>43705177
Yes. I deliberately didn't refluff Prometheans, though, I borrowed a bit from Paul Magyrs book Never the Bride (the main character being the Bride of Frankenstein, and a major plot point being that she has no soul).
>>
>>43705226

>>
>>43705747

>>43697757

oh...don't know whats in the book so far but here's my spitball...

grappler melee weapons. like axes and swords and shit...

anti-material LASERS

an assortment of interesting kinds of Missiles
1.)electronic warfare missiles that actively hack every tech entity in range and flood it with decimal placement errors
2.)flechette submunitions
3.)a missile that shoots missiles that shoot tiny missiles for a staggered maximum shotgun effect.
4.)

glue/foam bombs to entrap or hinder vehicles

vehicle scale net/chain-shot

"silver bullets" (Armour piercing discarding sabot) that pierce physical armor

Spell Breaker cannons that specifically breach arcane defenses

"big dick" boarding tubes for when you want to rape the enemy ship BEFORE the crew.

grapple cannons

mines

tow along missile pods(yes I admit enjoying Honor Harrington books)
>>
>>43726016
I read a book once called "watch on the Rhine" it featured big german tanks (fighting aliens) firing these munitions. described as spheres that would be fired at a low angle and at a programmed range break apart into a few thousand 1.5cm ball bearings traveling at speeds that would carry them individually through several bodies effectively giving a tank the ability to operate a shotgun at range.

same author different series featured what were essentially railguns with some nasty anti-personnel rounds; a cluster of heavy beads in a launching canister, each one connected to adjacent ones in a large diameter "net" of monomolecular wire that would be traveling at deployment at 2 to 3 kilometers per second...

the ever-popular PLASMA CANNON

I want to have a nanolathing cannon, but that might be a system-warping weapons system. (go play total annihilation it's the thing commanders build with...)

camera rounds that are fired over or through an area at relatively low speeds that send pictures or recon data back to a receiver in the vehicle

range detonating white phosphorous rounds

"screamer" rockets that generate enough all-spectrum noise that just about every weapons guidance system chases them.

FAE bombs; fuel-air explosives have 2 detonations, first a low flame or no flame to disperse the fuel(coffee creamer for example) and a second high-flame detonation to set off the fuel...the second detonation is usually of such a frightening magnitude that people can be reluctant to deploy these weapons.

>described as spheres that would be fired at a low angle and at a programmed range break apart into a few thousand 1.5cm ball bearings traveling at speeds that would carry them individually through several bodies effectively giving a tank the ability to operate a shotgun at range.
...that's called "grapeshot".
>>
>>43726596
grapeshot is the oldschool version it broke up right at firing, limiting the peak effective range of the munitions.
>>
>>43726617
Future grapeshot. The basic idea is the same, just with something like a laser designator or a timed fuse telling the shot when to break up. Sounds like a natural evolution.

Call me a newfag all you want, but what is this Dungeons the Dragoning about?

I've played D&D, I'm new to DH2e and like what I see so far...

Is DtD some sort of amalgamation of D&D and the 40k universe? Is it an RPG or a wargame?
>>
>>43734785
>Call me a newfag all you want,

Newfag.

Okay, with that out of the way...

>but what is this Dungeons the Dragoning about?

It's an unholy mashup of D&D, Warhammer 40k, World of Darkness, Exalted, 7th Sea, and just about every other game ever. It's also the best game ever, taking the best from all of those games to make something cooler than the sum of its parts.

Download the first book and start reading. Since nobody else has posted it, here is the link to my Google Drive folder for the game.

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B8z4Cy1zaGU1bnJMaDE4WDZZUlk&usp=sharing

After that, go to the forum and check out progress on the third book and all of the cuhrayzee homebrew for it.
>>
>>43734978
Hmm... I am curious about this... How does it actually play though? As an RPG I'd guess given the two RPGs I have actually played, and one I've heard of. But does it have wargame tendencies as well? And what's the default setting like?
>>
>>43735275
It's d10 based, roll & keep. The system contains some elements you should be familiar with (D&D's races and classes, 40k RPG class tracks and weapons), along with many things you might not be.

Setting is a bit hard to explain, but borrows from 40k & Mass Effect, among many other things.

Seriously, read the book.
>>
>>43735346
So setting is sort of a cyberpunk/sci-fi lean? I can dig it I suppose, not really my usual but hell, I like Shadowrun's setting well enough. I haven't actually played any legit 40k, just Dark Heresy 2e and I'm new to that, so the class tracks are completely unfamiliar to me. Though some weapons might ring a bell.

As for reading the book, I certainly intend to, likely tonight. I'm just in the middle of a few things and would rather not be /completely/ distracted. Because if it hooks me enough, there's a damn good chance I'll drop everything and forget what the hell I was doing lol. That shit happened to me bigtime when I first got into nWoD.
>>
>>43735346
>>43735387
Basically, while I'll play and enjoy other settings, my absolute and forever favorite is probably the Forgotten Realms and similar "standard" sword and sorcery/medieval high fantasy settings. I was raised in the Realms, and even though I utterly despise most D&D/PF players, I keep wanting to play them.
>>
>>43735387
>So setting is sort of a cyberpunk/sci-fi lean?
Kinda. It isn't really that much like Shadowrun, but it has a little bit of Shadowrun's trappings. The Great Wheel is absolutely massive, so while most of the places you go to will be industrialized, others could be medieval tech but high in sorcery.

>>43735404
>my absolute and forever favorite is probably the Forgotten Realms and similar "standard" sword and sorcery/medieval high fantasy settings.
It also takes bits and bobs from Forgotten Realms, so you'll definitely enjoy that.

Fairy race, a hat, and Danmaku Duelist. The rest lets you decide what kind of 2hu.
>>
>>43735387
As >>43735470 said, but there's no reason you can't have a crystal sphere that is basically Shadowrun but with everything you like kept in and everything you don't like taken out.
>>
>>43735387
>cyberpunk/sci-fi lean?
Not exactly. It has that stuff, but it also has worlds that are all magic and tech. It's a planescape situation, where your ships travel through void to crystal spheres, not through space to plants, and the spheres can contain solar systems, but they can also contain other shit, like a giant mountain or caves or Discworld or even more spheres. If you play with everything (space ships and traveling across many worlds) then there's a certain Rogue Trader aspect to that, but you can stay on one world, or travel from one world to another by navigating the umbral trods (that is, taking a short cut through the shadow realm) and never touch a spelljammer.

If what you actually want is Shadowrun though, you should consider Sigil. It has the factions from Planescape's sigil, the guilds of Ravnica, and the megacorps of Shadowrun all in the same enormous toroidal megacity. As it's visible from the warp, it functions as the center of the universe and every important faction has a presence.
>>
>>43735387
Not >>43735823, but to build on his point: in terms of tech level, everyone and everything from the lowest of fantasy to the highest of cyberpunk and 40k/Halo/Mass Effect tech is interacting with each other. You can play characters that walk around in chainmaille who carry bolters or shotguns or laser rifles because they found it at some shop that also sold magic swords and bows that loose arrows that track their targets a few miles away because MAGIC.

A Shadowrunner in Sigil would find themselves in the craziest situations every day, because it is the greatest amalgamation of pretty much any tech level--realistic or not--that you can think of. All you need to do is look.
>>
>>43735470
>>43735823
For the record, I've never played an actual Shadowrun game, nor read up on much of the lore. As I said, I'm a child of the Realms. I did play that horrible Shadowrun xbox game a bit though, and looked into the setting a little (kind of a tourist's glance at it) and liked what I saw. If I hadn't dived into w40k because my live group started playing DH2e I'd have probably gone to Shadowrun for my first tabletop sci-fi setting. Well, legit setting, I've played BESMd20 as sci-fi a bit, wasn't exactly a good experience though due to certain circumstances.

Current actual gaming experience is a ton of D&D3.x, a heaping serving of PF, a side of Werewolf the Forsaken/general nWoD, a side of BESMd20, an appatizer of DH2e, and a garnish of some small homebrew games. For desert, lots of Munchkin and some Arkham Horror, and the drink is an old wine reminiscent of various TCGs that I haven't touched in years and don't really intend to return to.

And in case anyone's wondering, yeah, I'm eating right now. Sorry if I made anyone hungry lol
>>
>>43735879
You might be interested in the new Shadowrun games (Shadowrun Returns, Dragonfall, and Hong Kong) which are actually good, roleplaying and tactics. It's a great way to enjoy the setting.

So, I have a rules question that I'm not entirely certain about.

Is there any way that a werewolf exalt can use the frenzy feat while in warform, or vice versa? In the description under both passages, it says that the only actions you can take while in warform/frenzy are making attacks or moving towards an enemy, and that activating either is a full round action.

Min-maxing aside, it would seem weird that you couldn't reach another state of rage when you're already super pissed off. I've always enjoyed the idea/image of a character entering a purely-out-of-fucking-control rage and wrecking absolutely everything around them.
>>
>>43737229
nope, you can't stack rage with warform, the entire point of warform is an enhanced free frenzy. The advantage of frenzy is not having to reveal your tell
>>
>>43737079
Pretty much every book except the first is "fan created bullshit."

>>43689105
I wanted to ask about classes. How exactly do they work? You meet the prerequisites, and then are those the things you can buy using XP? Please help!
>>
>>43738755
You enter a class you meet the prerequisites for. Then, you buy fears from your feat list using XP. When you buy all of the mandatory featsfor your class, the class is completed and you move on to another class.
>>
>>43738813
Thanks, really cleared that up for me!
>>
>>43738813
once you have all mandatory feats you can also opt not to join a new class yet and be in "free study" which lets you get optional feats and pump things like sword schools unrelated to your class.

>>43689105
Favorite exalt? Mine would be Paragon.

Prometheans are fun, though I've never played them myself. Ok, I have a question. If I made a human wraith who managed to find an adamantine blade, would wielding the blade cause a critical existence failure due to it causing supernatural stuff to go out of whack?

It shouldn't in strict adherence to the rules but I suppose that's something you should bring up with your GM first.
