Skyward Sword is basically one giant chase scene. Zelda is lost in a tornado and brought down to the earth. Impa rescues her and essentially guides her along a specific journey to groom her as the reincarnated goddess. Ghirahim, the villain for most of the game, wants to straight up kill Zelda and is chasing her down. Link is playing catch-up and is inadvertently working to become the Hero in the process, following Zelda's tracks. The two are intentionally kept separate from each other as they go on their respective journey, all while preventing Ghirahim from catching her.

Its a thing that became popular within their artist circles so people who don't have any prior knowledge or training start doing fan art inside their fandom. So since these are mostly people who are doing this on a whim because it makes them happy and not professionals, they learn mostly by emulation of what inspires their fandom hearts. So the red nose is a stylistic shorthand that is part of a 'warmer' color palette and helps new artists fill an otherwise uncomfortably mono-color area with something more vibrant.
Likely by the time you're seeing it on 4chan, they've been doing it for years but had no real art education other than just doing it and don't even question why. Its a quirk of the generation of self-taught and internet-taught artists that grew out of several children's shows. I wouldn't call it a 'bad' trend, I'd argue in some ways its a good one as it indicates that the artist is a newer one and found a hobby they enjoy enough that they taught themselves and found a group of people that they have fun with in that hobby.

You don't have to have a whole bunch of frills on an outfit just because it's a female character wearing it. Link's always had a very simple look, because he's a simple character. If what you want is to port that character idea to a female version, simplicity should be an ideal there as well.
But apparently that wasn't an ideal here. Too much stuff going on in the clothes, too many layers, two crossbows seems a little CUHRAZEE for this particular universe, and having zettai ryouki as part of the outfit is way too sexy. Sex appeal isn't generally a top priority for the sorts of simple, down-to-earth hero that Link's always been, so I don't know why a female version would be wearing fucking spats instead of regular-ass tights.
