Does anyone have their hands on Strongholds of Resistance yet? If so, how is it? Lords of Nal Hutta and Suns of Fortune were both pretty good, but they had a bit stronger theme than I would assume Strongholds of Resistance has.

Which of the old WEG books are the most easily repurposed for the FFG systems?
>>
>>43638122
Nah, still on a boat somewhere for me :(

>>43638567
Most of the modules are relatively solid, just a case usually of doing up NPC's for them.
Some of the fantastic tech books transfer over ok if you want to tempt PC's with shiny things and I've not had any issues making ships out of the various starship books.

Im playing in a Xwing tournament to support my FLG and to round out the roster sunday, though Im not super confident in my piloting abilities as Ive only played a few games and have been bumming ships. Can I post my list and get some critic or advice for how to fly it?
>>
>>43639185
You'd have to post the list first :^)
but really, go ahead, i don't see why anyone would be adverse to it
>>
>>43639229
I know some of the other generals are weird about shit like that, anyways Im thinking

Epsilon Leader Tie/fo 19 pts
Howlrunner with Swarm Tactics 20 pts
Academy Pilot 12 pts x5

Ive been trying to split my forces to try and get flanks in but my opponents just manage to make one force irrelevant most games so Im going to try and try reasonable close knit but with another room for maneuvers.
>>
>>43639287
Splitting up a swarm too far is a bad idea. You end up wasting turns having parts of your swarm doing nothing. You just have to take advantage of the fact that he can't shoot em all down at once and just get behind them when you can
>>
US peeps, miniature market's daily deal is

>>
>>43639287
Swarm Tactics works well if you're taking a bunch of Black Squadrons who also have Swarm Tactics. Otherwise I'd exchange it for a 3pt survivability buff (Stealth, Hull or PTL).

Howlrunner and Epsilon Leader should be close to your generics 90% of the time, and ideally in R1 of each other all of the time. Howl's rerolls and Epsilon's free k-turns are really what make the list work.
>>
>>43639478
That was the plan anyways, so drop swarm tactics for one of the three you recommended then?

My Hutt is largely from EotE, but if I boosted his Force Rating I'd be totally allowed to take Battle Meditation as a power (and that'd fit him perfectly).

>>
>>43644183
TFA has slightly stronger ships, up to date rules, and a more frightening critical damage deck. I'd recommend it unless you're feeling really casual about the game AND prefer the OG X-Wing and TIEs.

I'm still not 100% sold on the uncreative design of the TFA ships, but their dials and abilities are lot more dynamic than Wave 1 material.
>>
>>43644073
There's not much for post-RotJ stuff yet.

Aftermath is the only novel set exclusively after RotJ, though Lost Stars has a bit during the Battle of Jakku. Weapon of the Jedi, Smuggler's Run, and Moving Target all take place during the OT but are framed by stuff happening closer to TFA.

Shattered Empire is the only comic set after RotJ as of right now, though there's going to be s 3PO one-shot next month I believe.

As for Aftermath - I've heard real good things about the audiobook. Admittedly the novel is hard to read early on, but the writing shifts as the story progresses.

Does anyone know what the legal situation is for Vassal/TTS plugin? I've tried to use both, and honestly they are pretty shit. I want to make a dedicated xwing sim with unreal or unity, but if it's impossible to distribute it might not be worth it.

>>
>>43644336
>up to date rules
Let me tell you a hilarious story about this

New rules lump "adding a result" into the "modifying dice" category.

ATC cannot add dice vs. Dark Curse or if TLed by Omega Leader.
>>
A quick hypothetical I've been thinking about.

Rebel soldier is force sensitive and hates the empire. He has little to no guilt when killing imperials, and will not show mercy unless ordered to. Starts manifesting minor force abilities that are almost indistinguishable from dumb luck (e.g. knocks a storm trooper over with the force when he's in the heat of battle, seems to have a sixth sense for when a blaster is being pointed at him, etc.)

So basically he's using the dark side of the force. He has a soldiers discipline and ethics. And he is fiercely loyal to his comrades and the rebellion's cause.

What are the likely consequences of his unintentional use of the dark side?
>>
>>43644603
TTS is pretty questionable, they could easily get smacked. Removing the text makes the VASSAL module pretty safe.
>>
>>43644659
Interesting. Guess I'll get started and based on what happens with TTS decide how to release it.
>>
>>43644657
He would show signs that would be similar to a soldier who's PTSD manifested in anger issues. Occasional flashes of irrationality, potential minor paranoia, and a shorter fuse--potentially paired with a longer memory.
>>
>>43644657
Physical deterioration, a greater inclination to irrational decision making, prone to lashing out at others in otherwise calm situations
>>
>>43644657
He's going to get more and more vicious and war crime-y over time until one day he's literally mailing some random stormtrooper his kid's severed head
>>
>>43644696
>>43644684

Tthat's not how the dark side works.

He would only suffer dark side consequences e if he somewhat mastered his use of the force, and used it intentionally to do harm and for selfish reasons.

Unintentionally using the force has no negative consequences. It manifests as "good luck" and limited precognition.
>>
>>43644657

The same as using the Dark Side for anyone else: >>43644696, >>43644684

Advanced stages might cause him to doubt even the Rebel's own goals, no longer wishing for Rebel victory and the dissolution or break of the Empire's stranglehold on the galaxy, but the murder of Imperial citizens wholesale.

There's points of no turning back, broadly agreed upon that you're lost once you start killing innocent civilians. Soldiers on the battlefield and military officers is one thing, non-combatants are quite another. But generally, the Dark Side, even in small doses, is pretty corrosive to whatever barriers you try to put up to mitigate it. When it comes down to it, will this soldier reject the dark side or be drawn into it?
>>
>>43644975
>>43644773
>>43644696

Someone with that little force sensitivity won't really get any effects from the Dark Side. That comes with mastering the force and then willingly using that mastery for selfish ends.

Someone who grew up with not formal training and average force sensitivity will not really develop any side effects, why is why the Jedi rarely bother with older force sensitives.
>>
>>43644781
An unaware force sensitive isn't going to end up going full dickface Sith Lord, but relying on your negative, hostile emotions as a motivator when you're tapped into the Force is going to result in some dark side issues.

It's like saying "I didn't know that was heroin I was shooting into my arm, so why do I feel achy and hollow inside?" Even if he's doing it subconsciously, his subconscious mind is going to get used to the presence and feeling of power.
>>
>>43644781
If he does DS actions while being Force sensitive, he might go full-on Sith, but he will recieve a certain amount of the corruption. Being Force sensitive has penalties as well as benefits, I'd imagine.
>>
>>43645153
he might not* go full-on Sith. My bad.
>>
>>43644781
>He would only suffer dark side consequences e if he somewhat mastered his use of the force,
Am I correct in assuming that so long as he doesn't receive Jedi/Sith training he'd avoid going full-Darth.
>and used it intentionally to do harm
He's killing storm troopers and imperial officers, not sure if that counts as harm though.
>for selfish reasons.
Well he's a soldier that fights in equal parts for his comrades/hatred of the empire/and belief in the rebellion.
The only motivation I can count as selfish would be hating the empire.

>>43644684
>>43644696
>>43644773
So he'd be showing signs of PTSD/combat fatigue. Probably would get rotated out of active duty if the Rebel commanders aren't too short on staff/incompetent.
Would being off the battlefield push him away or towards the dark side?

>Physical deterioration,
Interesting anything in particular; would the physical deterioration be indistinguishable from someone under a lot of stress?

>>43644975
The civilian casualties/noncombatants seems like a good angle, that said the soldier follows the rules of engagement religiously.

I can't see any circumstances where this hypothetical soldier would join forces with the empire or their sith willingly, since his hatred is aimed directly at the empire and their atrocities. The rebellion would have to do something he'd perceive as worse than blowing up Alderaan.

Seems kind of insidious now that I think about it some more. Couple more questions now:

What are the possible consequences to his immediate comrades? Let's say he's a petty officer, and a five year veteran.

If alliance intelligence identified him as force sensitive what would they do?

How bad would it be if he's captured by imperials and then identified as a force sensitive?
>>
>>43644615
>New rules lump "adding a result" into the "modifying dice" category.

But it has been updates since wave 7 hit shelves to cover shit like deploying craft and the SLAM action
>>
>>43645153
>>43645135

Not if you're untrained and have no idea how to even use it. A force sensitive smuggler for example, or pilot, who uses his powers to kill and steal, but have no idea they're using the force, will only appear to be extra lucky and have incredible reflexes, they won't feel the surge of power a trained force user feels, consequently they won't be drawn to it by their emotions.

>Am I correct in assuming that so long as he doesn't receive Jedi/Sith training he'd avoid going full-Darth.

Not necessarily Jedi/Sith, that are other force cults, but yeah, as long as he remains untrained and unaware of his abilities, yeah.

He might find out about his abilities, though, and start using them with no training; that's really dangerous and he could definitely slip into the dark side if gone unchecked.
>>
>>43645179
>Am I correct in assuming that so long as he doesn't receive Jedi/Sith training he'd avoid going full-Darth.
Maybe? It depends. Take KotOR2 for example. All of your Force sensitive people that travel with you--even if untrained--show signs of corruption. They don't go full Sith, technically, but they can show some serious signs of being Sith in all but name depending on how your presence and their own Force sensitivity treats them.

Being a Force sensitive is actually kind of dangerous. You need to be really self-aware because your actions and emotions effect you and your choices--and those around you--more so than they do for other people. Force sensitives are kind of just people, but more like people, if that makes sense. They're better at things, and their feelings effect everything more.
>>
>>43645232
All of this is under the assumption that you go Dark Side and encourage them to. Fuck me, I keep making typos and leaving out parts of my points.

How did Aaron Bonar run 3 ships with Tactician when it's Limited?
>>
Thanks for the notes on the force sensitive rebel soldier /SWG/. It's been very helpful.
>>
>>43645362
Limited means you can only have one copy on a single ship

You can run more than one copy in a list, just not on the same ship.

UNIQUE upgrades are one per squad.
>>
>>43645367
I mean, Star Wars is kind of odd with the whole "bad/good" thing. doing really horrible things while channeling the Force isn't good, but what's "bad?" KotOR2 tries to answer some of this, but there are some things that are just...nasty. And doing them while channeling the Force is more likely to effect you than just doing something that wears at your soul while NOT channeling.

It's kind of odd. Star Wars is funky like that. A lot of it is up to interpretation. I like to think that things that wear at your soul--even if subconsciously--are more likely to corrupt you when you're doing them. A character who really, TRULY feels that there is NOTHING wrong with what he's doing is more likely to not face actual corruption--even if he's technically using the Dark Side by using the Force while feeling strong emotions.

A Force sensitive who doesn't know wouldn't know WHEN he's channeling, but if he's feeling strong emotions and using them when he gets his "lucky moments," that makes things weird. If he knows in any way that what he's doing is wrong--even if he doesn't know he's doing it with powers--he's far more likely to face corruption. At least, that's how I would handle it if I were GMing. People who genuinely think, in their very souls, that bad things aren't bad are actually so rare as to be effectively non-existent. Humanity's not all that bad overall.
>>
>>43645179
It is unlikely an untrained force user could channel enough evil to get to anything beyond mild physical deterioration. Mental changes are a lot more probable.

That devotion towards the rules of engagement would come under strain. Using the dark side seems to disrupt the ability to control impulses and emotions. There certainly will be times when the rules and what you want don't match completely. Those will be the times that determine if and how quickly the soldier will fall. I could see adherence to this kind of code of conduct staving off the fall to the dark side if the soldier manages to hold on to it.

Walking down the road of the dark side would ultimately him into the worst possible version of himself. He will drift towards ever more extreme action as his grip on sanity begins to slip. The rules he once followed without fault first get exceptions, then turn into guidelines, then into hypocrisy and finally vanish completely. This is going to be a nightmare for anyone still under his command. Think of the poor fuckers in the insane colonel's unit in Apocalypse Now.
>>
Does anyone have experience refluffing the FFG games for the Old Republic era?

Also, do you mix n match "your Star Wars" based on what works are and are not canon? For example, when you play in the OT era, do you cut or redo some events from the PT?
>>
>>43645731
I think everyone does that to a degree. I know I make certain choices regarding "my" Star Wars based on what we play and when we play.

Part of what I like so much about the Star Wars galaxy is that there is so much unexplored space--even in theoretically explored space--that you can insert anything you really like. I am currently a player in a game that takes place in an entirely custom sector in post-RotJ era that takes inspiration from things like Deus Ex and Outlaw Star; and the GM makes it work quite well.

Personally I add xenos from other franchises that I like in Star Wars when I host, after tweaking them enough to fit in. Like, for example, the Mass Effect races tend to make minor appearances along with all the other aliens everywhere.

>Wonder what happened in 8 months to warrant nerfing The Dauntless and buffing obstacles. They flat-out unmade the rulings from their previous FAQ.

>A character who really, TRULY feels that there is NOTHING wrong with what he's doing is more likely to not face actual corruption--even if he's technically using the Dark Side by using the Force while feeling strong emotions.

The problem with that is that a lot of Sith Lords don't think they're doing anything wrong (from Legends material, at least). Palps gave zero shits whatsoever and Kreia thought she was in the right the whole time. Both of them looked pretty unnatural once the time for disguises was over. It's also likely unclear how much of Joruus C'baoth's insanity was due to Dark Side shenanigans and how much was due to the psychological drawbacks of being a Spaarti clone.
>>
>>43645983
Except that Can't Peeve the Sheev didn't actually look that fucked-up until he lightning-ed himself, and the only real difference between Darth Traya and Kreia was makeup and clothes. There was no real physical deformity caused by the Dark Side.
>>
>>43645086

Well, even populations living in areas contaminated with the Dark Side will be affected by it, regardless of their ability to wield or perceive it. Resistance to the Dark Side is less about exposure and how much is wielded than it is about actively resisting its temptations and fighting back against it. Actively courting it, whether intentional or not, is going to begin manifesting in their personality.

>didn't actually look that fucked-up until he lightning-ed himself
Legends-wise, I think that's just because he was keeping up a disguise the whole time. He used lightning pretty liberally in the books and electrocuted his master to death.

And as for Kreia, I blame that on game design. KOTOR II's team was rushed and it's not like any of the character models in those games looked particularly detailed. Hell, KOTOR II's visuals look pretty slapdash and unfinished in a lot of other places, too. Dark Side PCs just get skin recolors because actual physical deformities would have taken too much time to model.

>>43646109

>The civilian casualties/noncombatants seems like a good angle, that said the soldier follows the rules of engagement religiously.
>I can't see any circumstances where this hypothetical soldier would join forces with the empire or their sith willingly, since his hatred is aimed directly at the empire and their atrocities. The rebellion would have to do something he'd perceive as worse than blowing up Alderaan.

This hypothetical soldier wouldn't need to be driven to it by a single act, and straight going Sith isn't the only path to the Dark Side. The Rebels would only need be cast in the light of not zealous enough to his mind for him to stop believing in them. That's Extremism rather than the Rebellion's Idealism.

Joining the Sith isn't a consequence of the Dark Side, he can be opposed to freaking anyone. Light and Dark Sides aren't teams but alignments, and two Light-Sided groups might get along but not really associate while two Dark-Sided entities can fight it out amongst themselves.

The Alliance might not know what to do with Force Sensitives other than try and keep them out of the Empire's notice, while the Empire either recruits them as Inquisitors or outright killed them. Darth Vader's been know to just chop down force-sensitives that wanted to join up with him, that's on his job's Mission Statement: "Kill Jedi, and Force Sensitives (who aren't indoctrinated or sanctioned by the Empire.)"

Comrades will probably notice that Vet. Billy's getting a tad bit touched in the head, and might start to either draw away or push back in, trying to snap him out of it.

Will the concept of one environment per planet ever die out? Its a Star Wars trope that always bugged me.

>Legends-wise, I think that's just because he was keeping up a disguise the whole time. He used lightning pretty liberally in the books and electrocuted his master to death.
I don't want to be a dick, but I don't buy this without some sort of proof--either in the form of a quote or pointing to a chapter or something that has a quote in it.

>And as for Kreia, I blame that on game design.
Again, I don't want to be an ass. But I don't buy this. She didn't think she was doing anything wrong at all, and showed no real corruption. It makes sense--at least, in my personal interpretation of Star Wars' execution of subjectivity--and I really feel that the game looked well-enough put together that Kreia showing little actual corruption is fine. She has a lot of practice with stoicism, and it showed with her lack of corruption. Nihlus opened himself up entirely to the Dark Side for his fancy power and that about destoryed him, and Scion's holding himself together with hatred shows the kind of damage that literally existing through hate can cause.

>Palps

Quoting the Wook:
>Palpatine plied Plagueis with wine while rehearsing the acceptance speech he would soon deliver before the Senate. Plagueis soon fell into an alcohol-induded sleep, and Palpatine saw his chance. With his master's guard completely down, Palpatine blasted Plagueis's transpirator mask with Force lightning, shorting it out. This woke Plagueis but, being inebriated and half-asleep, the Muun could do nothing to stop his apprentice. Palpatine took the opportunity to mock Plagueis, informing him as to just how thoroughly he had manipulated him, all the while sending additional blasts of lightning, causing immense pain to his master as he slowly suffocated.
Source: Darth Plagueis novel

As for Palps' disguise:
>Ian McDiarmid also stated in an interview that his healthy-looking appearance was in fact a disguise, and the disfigured visage was his true face.[85]

>showed no real corruption
Wookieepedia:
>The corruption of the dark side was reflected in her pitch black eyes, which appeared completely white while masking her true identity as Darth Traya.[2]
Unnaturally pale skin, solid black eyes. Shit's Sith corruption, yo.
>>
>>43646388
Cool. A lot easier to accept with proofs. Thanks bro. I still prefer the idea of subjectivity has a lot to do with the degrees of Force corruption, but the idea of avoiding corruption by being the blackest-hearted motherfucker isn't really a thing.
>>
>>43646201
>>43646265

There's plenty that aren't. We just know of a lot that are. Of course, a lot of them have reasons as to why they're that way.

The biggest reason, if it's still canon, is the Rakata fucked with the planet. Tatooine is a giant sand dune because the Rakata glassed it. Kashyyyk is a giant forest because the Rakata forgot to turn off the terraforming machine. Coruscant is a giant city because... Well, Humans did that one.

Narratively, with locations being separated by hyperspace, it mimics the fantasy stylings of the genre by having different fantastical lands with fantastical creatures and fantastical creatures. Some single-environment planets can make sense on their own, and we see a couple of examples in our own solar system: desert Mars, volcanic Io, frozen Titan... With our own solar system as an example, you would think that single-environment planets are actually the norm, the only difference being that in Star Wars, most of them have breathable atmospheres.

Legends Canon and Canon Canon are different things now, and anything Old Republic is considered Legends.

That doesn't make it not there, though. So we can still bicker and nitpick over Legends just like we used to when it was Canon.
>>
>>43646552

I just started playing KotOR, so forgive me if those are the first examples that jump to mind.

By Manaan did show up in the Clone Wars, which technically makes Manaan's existence canon, though everything else about it, like the Rakata, is still Legends.
>>
>>43646591
Basically, yeah. The split is kind of weird like that. Personally, I plan on mixing and matching what I enjoyed most of Canon and Legends into a personal "my" Star Wars for games I host. Like, if I love the shit out of the First Order, they'll be a thing in the history of the Star Wars I play with my buddies.
>>
>>43646552
Even in canon we have examples of planets that aren't just a single biome. Ryloth was changed from its Legends origin of tidal-locked desert world with high winds to regularly rotating world with lots of desert but also an equatorial forest. Alderaan has lots of rolling plains but also mountains. Naboo has Windows XP grasslands, flowered fields, awesome cliffs, rain forests, and whatever the fuck is going on underwater.
>>
>>43646591
Manaan didn't show up in TCW. A Selkath did, but all that means is that selkath are canon, not that Manaan itself is. But given how much the LSG loves Legends, it probably will come back into canon before too long.
>>
>>43646201
>one environment per planet ever die out
I feel like that it's only bad in Star Wars because the same goddamn planets keep getting reused over and over. Every game has us going back to Tatooine, Kashyyyk, Endor, Yavin, Dagobah, Hoth, and the obligatory ocean world or airless rock.

Coruscant itself appears to be multi-biome in Legends, since it still has polar ice caps. Corellia, Alderaan, ancient Tython, ancient Ziost, Myrkr, and Naboo all have pretty diverse terrain or multiple biomes, too. There are plenty of planets in Legends with varied environments but they rarely ever come up.
>>
>>43646255
Poe Dameron is more than a match for two TIE/fos at the same points. Empire generally uses more (cheaper) ships. As long as it isn't Poe vs. Epsilon Leader + Omega Ace with Push The Limits, it should be a relatively fair fight.
>>
>>43646686

Looks like, with a Selkath showing up, they did plug Manaan back into Canon. Character bio on the Selkath shows Manaan to be a Canon location.

I guess you could safely say that if a sentient species shows up in a Canon work, that species's homeworld is at least canon, though perhaps not the events or other characters that unfolded there. I wouldn't mind if the KotOR games were made completely Canon, they're pretty fun and I like the ideas it introduces, especially the ancient aliens.

>Finalizer
What the hell kind of name is that? Sounds like it's more suited to office work than an all destroying badass space navy.
>>
>>43646755
Ok that eases my mind a bit. Thanks.

Now what's a good starting point after getting a Core? The X-Wing/TIE Expansions, or something like the Ace Expansions? This shit is getting confusing.
>>
>>43647154
It will persist in being confusing! A lot of upgrade cards only come with one pack. Examples:
>the best TIE Interceptor pilot (Soontir Fel) ONLY comes with the TIE Interceptor Expansion, but the Royal Guard TIE title that gives you the most options on an Interceptor ONLY comes with the Imperial Aces Expansion.
>the best TIE Advanced pilot (Darth Vader) ONLY comes with the TIE Advanced Expansion, but the TIE/x1 title that makes it great ONLY comes with an epic ship
>Autothrusters, an upgrade you will put on literally every ship capable of taking it, only comes with a Scum ship, the StarViper
If you plan to play as a beer & pretzels game among friends, you can ignore the above, just buy the ships you like and use list builder apps to run whatever. That's what I recommend for maximum enjoyment.
>>
>>43646952
No tax exemption is safe from the Finalizer!
>>
>>43647300
To be fair, Carnor Jax and Royal Guard Interceptors, are both solid and come in the Aces pack. And Autothrusters are good on Interceptors and A-Wings, but only a necessity if the meta or tournament is loaded full of primary weapon turrets, outriders, or TLTs.

Also, the Raider "fix" to the Advanced doesn't necessarily need the actual Advanced expansion. Juno is pretty fucking awesome, as are all the new named pilots in the Raider. The problem is more that they're found in the $90 Raider kit, and without it the Advanced is somewhat lacking.

Does Star Wars have any good examples of powered armor?
>>
>>43649378
Stormtrooper armor in Legends is powered to a limited extent (life support, environmental sealing, stun gauntlets, and a very shitty personal shield that nobody uses). Clone Commando armor had decent personal shields in Legends, too. Nothing that really qualifies as full Spess Mareen walking tank, though, as far as I remember.
>>
>>43649378
Depending on how you want to define power armor, it's fairly limited. There aren't many that can actually augment a user's strength, although they do exist.

Integrated communications, sensors, weapons, and environmental adaptation are a lot more common, but I don't think that's what you were asking for.

Phase 3 Dark Trooper armor fits the "enhanced strength and reflexes" qualifications. Of course it was mostly just a boss in a video game, but it fits the bill.

>>43649517
And here's the space trooper armor. Not sure how much extra strength is fitted it, but I'd expect it to be pretty hardy given all the dangers of space combat and boarding actions.
>>
>>43649517
star wars isn't so big on powered armor; it picks the "unarmored gunslinger hero" over the "walking tank hero" in the sci-fi armor wars, and power armor being big in the setting would kind of diminish that
>>
>>43649576
Also because every government in the galaxy would rather invest in new starships and space weaponry than in upgraded infantry armor. Standard-issue body armor peaked at the classic stormtrooper gear and never really progressed far beyond that.
>>
>>43649623
How generally effective is their body armor supposed to be? Is here a general leaning in all of the EU? Against energy, we see all the time. But are there good examples of ballistics?

>>
>>43649661
IIRC, Legends stormie gear is generally pretty good against ballistics and shrapnel. Slugs generally aren't very effective against a fully armored stormtrooper unless it's powerful armor-piercing stuff.

The armor is also actually pretty effective against energy weapons in terms of reducing lethality. Glancing hits are generally only a mild annoyance while direct hits will leave a guy in sickbay instead of in a coffin.
>>
>>43649661
it\s pretty good against ballistics, but it's only mediocre against energy; it's like a class IIB vest; it's not good against rifles or carbines, but it's enough to stop pistol hits and shrapnel, which is the really big advantage to stormtrooper armor. sure, it won't stop johnny reb's blaster carbine, but it'll slow it down enough to keep the trooper alive AND it'll make them basically shrapnel-proof, which is of immense value, for obvious reasons
>>
>>43649378

There's models of Power Armor from like some RPG supplements, but besides the Dark Trooper exoskeleton not a lot otherwise showing up in other media. FFG has a model of powered armor which like, built in optics and strength enhancer but limited battery life (also high soak).

Does properly done fusion cuisine count?

>>43657341
Good crossovers, yes. There's an Avatar/SG-1 crossover I found that's surprisingly believable, there's 'The Mission Stays The Same' which is actually 40k/Mass Effect which I wish would update, but the author's having irl struggles.

Basically, there's plenty of believable and credible crossovers about. I'm just not convinced that BtVS is an element of them. Crossing it with Harry Potter only magnifies the poor credibility.
>>
>>43657185
I saw a Buffy/some cop show, forget which one, which was decent, but they're rare as hell, for sure. It's like harry potter, in that way
>>
>>43657370
Actually yes
>>
>>43657341
Sure, if the settings are compatible. Crossing over two cop shows (say NCIS and CSI) will generally work perfectly fine, for example. Things get fuckey when you cross fantasy with non-fantasy, or sci-fi with anything but very similar sci-fi, though
>>
>>43657439
How does 40k/mass effect work?
>>
>>43657575
You piss off a daemon and it throws you through the Warp.
>>43657512
It really really depends on the writer and their subject matter. Just having... say Rick O'Connell from the Mummy movies show up in Leverage as an old yet surprisingly spry man is not enough for credibility. In fact, it's breaking credibility because Rick O'Connell is a send up to the old serials and monster movies and, as such, comes from too silly a world to work in Leverage.

On the other hand, NCIS and Dresden Files works.... surprisingly well, at least to me. I think it's the detective aspects that do it especially when the author works in Gibbs' troubles with tech

Harry Potter crossovers, though, vary wildly. And by wildly, I mean 'it's almost all dreck'.
>>43657552
It really depends on how the writer sells it and so far I've seen a LOT of poor salespeople.
>>
>>43657677
Yeah, I was gonna say I've read a couple pretty good NCIS/Dresden Files crossovers.
>>
>>43657677
>>43657765
I've always found NCIS to be good crossover fodder as it sits RIGHT on the boundary between plausible and weird, so it's flexible that way. It's hamstrung by the extremely low quality of it's fandom writer pool (and their extremely odd and specific array of fetishes, like God Damn), though. I've seen a few decent ones with Stargate, presumably because it's the Stargate writing crew doing them
>>
>>43657946
> It's hamstrung by the extremely low quality of it's fandom writer pool (and their extremely odd and specific array of fetishes, like God Damn)
No. No, I'm not doing it. You can't make me, no.
Yeah, Stargate crossovers tend to be more credible, but as with the example that started this train of thought, it still depends on the writer.
Like when the same writer who did the Dagobah thing, which was an SGA crossover did the same thing with Firefly but had everyone involved do a stupid and give hyperdrives to the Alliance, who then attacked them with the Pax. Like....Really? Do you REALLY think everyone in the SGC and its offshoots are THAT dumb? Fuck you, jedibuttercup. Fuck you and your huge backlog and your supremely unbelievable crossovers and your dismissal of characters having BASIC. COMMON. SENSE.

Wanted to keep it cheap, reasonably survivable, and able to do some work.

You know, if that's any natural planetoid that thing is built into, that fucking trench is MASSIVE and so is that big fucking.... cannon? Engine? Whatever, but still. Honestly, just cutting out a slice of matter from a planet must play merry hell with its gravitation and stuff.
And given that it's so huge.... where does all the power come from? Then again, this is Star Wars....
>>
>>43662305
Well, considering it's the bastard child of the Sun Crusher and the Galaxy Gun, I like that it's comically huge.
>>
>>43662305
The lines look pretty regular, so it might just be a spherical artificial thing.

I'm kind of hoping it's actually small, like, that hole is about the size of an X-Wing, just to fuck with our expectations.
>>
>>43662305
>where does all the power come from
A fuckhuge reactor on the Death Star's level, maybe. The real question is where the hell the First Order got the cash, raw materials, and personnel for Starkiller Base. It's an Imperial remnant faction. Surely their resources aren't that mind-boggling. Or is there new EU material detailing the acquisition of massive amounts of resources and other assets?
>>
I really like SW Miniatures, is Imperial Assault any good?
>>
>>43661957
>El Hazard
Mah nigga.
>>
>>43662462
Could've been started back when the Empire was still fuckhueg and loaded with all of the credits. Then after, the Empire fractured and the First Order took over their own slice of the galaxy, they pulled a Nazi gold scenario and spent a ton of stolen credits on finishing the project.
>>
Couple of questions for XWM.

So, I had an epic fight recently where I managed to get a few Z95s behind the enemies huge Imperial Raider. They fucked up and murdered the stern of the ship, leaving just the front. Now, rules-wise, would those ships still directly behind the Raider then not be able to shoot at the front part, since the hind end of the shio blocks the view? Thats how we played it.

Also, why hasnt FFG given us any previews? ! Do they hate us?!?
>>
>>43663346
>Also, why hasnt FFG given us any previews?
Disney has a tight lid on spoilers for TFA, so new material at the moment has to come from Rebels, which was on hiatus until recently, wasn't it?

>Do they hate us?!?
Just you.
>>
>>43663346
>would those ships still directly behind the Raider then not be able to shoot at the front part, since the hind end of the shio blocks the view?
Correct, there's nothing in the rules that I can find that makes a section stop being an obstacle when crippled.

>Also, why hasnt FFG given us any previews?
According to something from Worlds, each preview article has to be rubber-stamped directly by LFL. FFG is raring to go, but LFL is fucking swamped right now.

Doesn't explain all the IA previews, but it's the best we've got.
>>
>>43654634
The problem with that would be the PCs immediately trying to murder him. By putting him in a vindicator they have to outrun, outfly or outsmart him.
>>
>>43661685
Ditch Calculation or the ATC on Maarek as if you have ATC you'll be wanting to take TL actions not focus and if you have calculation you'll be making focus actions to proc that rendering ATC useless.
>>
>>43663346
>would those ships still directly behind the Raider then not be able to shoot at the front part, since the hind end of the ship blocks the view? Thats how we played it.
This is exactly the right thing

You can only target the front if that line in the mid-span of the ship does not block your view

Imperial Assault is a blast. The campaign mode functions almost like a light RPG campaign. I played one campaign as the Imperials and am playing as one of the Rebels in one now. I'm really looking forward to Return to Hoth.

The skirmish mode is great, too, but I haven't played as much of it. I really like the command card system the skirmish game uses. It adds some extra unpredictability. The only problem I see with it right now is that the relatively shallow pool of options means just a couple of lists are dominant (Royal Guards/Imperial Officers and Rebel Saboteurs).
>>
>>43662585
>>43664332
Oh, and one other issue with skirmish: setup and tear-down can take quite a while, with putting together the maps. But on the flip side, the fact that skirmish is always a scenario is enjoyable. It means you don't have to just table your opponent.
>>
>>43660703
I've found slicer tools to be a must have on duty free. Using jamming, flechette torpedoes, and stress bot, slicer tools managed to finish off three ships in a swarm in one turn.

Combat retrofit is not as necessary. That 3 damage is not as valuable as 10 points that could be going to more offensive ships imo.

I don't use EM Emitter as much either, but I also view big ships as wrecking balls bent on running over enemy fighters with your own flanking it. Not a lot of chances for blocking in that case.
