So are Dreadnoughts going the way of Tau battlesuits now?
>>
>>43620769
in what way?
>>
>>43620769

This is an improvement in my opinion; in the past I always thought their legs were too short.
>>
>>43620769
This looks better than a regular dreadnaught.
>>
Yes, there will be also tiny piloted dreadnoughts.
>>
>>43620781
Just... Bigger. The battlesuits are getting the giant treatment, looks to me like the dreads are too. I dunno what to think, It's probably gonna be good, but it looks too big for me.

Titans are different, they are meant to be walking machine-gods.

Forgeworld should really have added some kind of vehichle damage table reduction.

You could spend 320 points on this motherfucker and 1 lucky Lascannon shot could blow it right the fuck up.

Should at least have venerable status.

I see a helmet, so it's probably a pilot, and not some angry vegetable.

Thing is, how the hell can he actually pilot this thing? It can't possibly be an exosuit, his limbs would be far too short to be even able to allow the robotic limbs to bend without breaking his bones.
It doesn't seem to be a cockpit either, it looks far too small, and the pilot would be sitting in a very arkward position.

The same question goes for the smaller Tau exosuits. Xv25 seems alright in that sense, but Crisises and Broadsides keep me wondering.
>>
>>43621533
It's not the actual head of the pilot. it's just there to make the thing look nicer. This is explained in Betrayer.
>>
>>43621533
>>43621572
I always thought that was the dude who was encased insides actual head but it was still a sarcophagus below it.
>>
>>43621612
>I always thought that was the dude who was encased insides actual head but it was still a sarcophagus below it.
Seems inefficient even by 40k standards, considering that it's the only thing they really need to keep around.
>>43621344
>>43620769
A good question would also be why it has nothing in the way of a heavy bolter/vehicle-grade las weapon. This thing looks pretty nice, but rules-wise it seems kind of underwhelming.
>>
>>43621344
> 1 Lucky shot could blow it up
Yeah, you know, just like real life.
Also, it doesn't have to be COMPLETELY blown up to pieces to be out of combat. I have a lot of trouble picturing it still able to fight, let alone stand on its own with one leg mechanisms destroyed.
>>
>>43620862
It must be terrible to have no stamina whatsoever.
>>
>>43621344
Umm... To be fair, that is the same for every vehicle with less than 7 HP.

Although, I do agree with the Venerable part.
>>
>>43621533
>>43621612
The helmet is filled with sensors that are wired to the brain and is placed where the "head" should be so that the new "body" doesn't feel to alien to the corpse inside.

At least that is my understanding...

TURN DOWN FO WAT
>>
>>43623308
Yet those big hull mounts have no use in tearing any forts. Surely it'd make more sense to concentrate all the main firepower (what the thing is built for, aka tearing down forts) there. The arms guns are smaller, so they can serve for secondary stuff, like harassing infantry with flamers or bolters.
>>
>>43623335
Fucking Salamanders, man...
>>
>>43620769
Fuck it. It's an overpriced complete piece of shit. Hell it's more expensive than that new HH Box, which INCLUDES a Contemptor.
>>
>>43623399
The hull mounts aren't big, they're just small slots under the main bulk of the sarcophagus, power plant, shielding and armour that you can fit flamers/volkite guns - on every dread the weapons are on the arms, so it can move the way it's meant to (mostly like a person) and not have to turn its entire bulk just to aim
>>
>>43623462
Wonder if you could take a boxnought body and put it on contemptor legs.
>>
>>43623502
it would be extremely painful
>>
>>43623516
that is so fucking hilarious dude
>>
>>43623488
>The hull mounts aren't big

Big enough to fit heavy flamers.

>on every dread the weapons are on the arms

Replacing the claws. Here you have an opportunity to pack some firepower on the torso AND keep the claws.

>not have to turn its entire bulk just to aim

The thing is, if you're gonna be tearing down forts, they're bound to be in front of you, so you can use both siege drills. So having the guns on the torso to add to this (don't know how well the arm meltas can operate while the claws are elbow deep in enemy fortification). Having anti-infantry guns on the torso means it has to turn itself to face the enemy. If the flamers were on the arms, it would have a wider arc to work with in tracking enemies getting too close.

It is intended to be a transition style between Contemptor and Mk IV's, though, hence why it has a somewhat boxy frame.
>>
>>43623239

Heavy flamers are like THE go-to siege weapon, because they clear out fortified positions of enemy infantry like nobody's business, and can often ignore the cover said infantry are taking.

>>
>>43620769
Oh, This looks cool its a mixture of the normal dreadnought and Contemptor.
>>
>>43624743
Maybe for taking out infantry in said fortified positions, which would require openings. But if you want to make a gaping hole into a solid fortified wall for you troops to get in (who can then carry said flamers to clear out the position from the inside), having the assistance of multi-meltas would seem like a good idea.

And I said from the very beginning "option". You can have your heavy flamers, but why can't it have multi-meltas as an option? Without the volkites the 40k option on the hull are pretty slim. Fucking hell, even centurions get to choose between flamers and meltas. You wouldn't take a dread with 4 heavy flamers or 4 meltas (I'd be fine with alternative claw guns as well)?

So with all these super awesome dreadnought designs, whats the point of fielding regular dreadnoughts?
>>
>>43625583
They don't cost a shitton of points.
>>
>>43625583
Leviathans are the Assault Terminators.

Contemptors and Derederos are Terminators.

Vanilla Noughts are Space Marines.

As in cheap. The advanced ones are more expensive.
>>
>>43625583
They're cheaper, have more attacks and come in squadrons.

>>
>>43620769
How is it that there are so many "siege" units coming out as of late, and yet there are no proper rules about sieges and breaching fortifications?
>>
>>43627432
someone post that image of a Dreadnought giving an Ork a vasectomy.
>>
>>43620920
Its on a 80mm base...
>>
It's slightly larger than a Contemptor, and considerably more bulky.

Saw it in the FW store at WW.
>>
>>43627451
Because making rules sets to determine the destruction of terrain after sustaining so much damage, subsequently allowing units to pass through aforementioned terrain unhindered would be soooooooooooo difficult.
That was sarcasm, of course, you could probably homebrew some rudimentary rules for it in less than an hour, even something like Terrain X can take n hits from a weapon of say S7+/Blast/Ord before being rendered "destroyed".

I dunno, man, maybe they're building up to something.
>>
>>43620769

It doesn't matter who's head it is, it looks fucking silly, I'm surprised I didn't see one of these on the 31st.
>>
>>43625522
Not him, but how? Most non-flying monsterous creatures will go down to a bolter-barrage, Lascannon Devastator team or a captainequiv with a Power Fist (Or at least, all Nid/Chaos ones tend to.)

This thing laughs at Meltaguns, is a little worried by Lascannons and can't be scratched by bolters.

That thing is designed to do 1 thing, draw all of your opponents fire at it, then laugh as it does nothing, like all good units like it. At the very least, it'll tie up all of your opponents heavy weapons for 1-3 turns as they ping off that invuln/"glance on 5's".
>>
>>43623239

All the big Contemptor chassis like Deredeo and Leviathan have HF for waist guns. I guess it's just their small anti-personnel counter-measure. Just like titans have stubbers and lascannons and stuff pointing towards the back.
