I was once to GM for an all-kitsune party. However, frustration with Pathfinder from a GM perspective ensued, and I found myself switching to another system entirely. To this day, I still feel guilty over the bait-and-switch, and one of my players occasionally implies that we should have never switched.

Do you give your players artifacts, DMs of /pfg/?

If you do, do you treat them as story-important objects, or more like personal side quests for that character?

If you don't, why not? What are the perceived downsides to you?
>>
>>43620943

Artifacts can be cool as long as they are either extremely hard to find, difficult to obtain, not all that useful but funny (illusionary wand of tastiness, make food tastier), come at a tremendous cost to the player (power gauntlet for fighter? consumes the arm it's worn on and requires regular sustenance in the form of blood or it consumes the user, but while fed it grants tremendous power. The fighter can never stop fighting without shortly dying after.)

All in all I don't play pathfinder

Why are the DnD core races so conceptually bankrupt? Sure, elves and dwarves are fairly distinct, but then you have shit like halflings and gnomes that are nearly the same fucking thing, just one uses magic. Then you have halfbreeds which just feel like filler. Like what, did they think full-blooded orcs would be too 'out there' for people to play as? It's not like I'm asking to play as a phlumph here.

Gygax was strongly against his players rolling monster races, considering them to be mindlessly evil and therefore not playable.
Half-Orc was his way of going "fine, Christ, have it your way."

Since the errata makes you pay 1 round of performance for each word, you're gonna want a lot of Extra Performance feats. Additionally, Harmonic Sage lets you make your performance last 1 round longer than normal when in an artificial structure, which should technically make them take another 4d6 next round for free.

Unchained Monk at 5th level gets a better than pounce charge attack though Leaping Kick Style Manuver (you get to attack before and after the attack) with flurry and you can spend ki for the extra attack at that level. That's 3 full BAB attacks and one at -5 BAB at 5th level. Ki Powers are very much potent, since they can access their own list and the Qigong Monk's list, which grants a bunch of self-buffs and movement buffs.

I have a status update regarding the "for optimized characters" campaign that has a severely unoptimized kineticist and swashbuckler in its ranks, which I mention here: >>43613882 and >>43616228

People's feelings are now being hurt as I point out that in this supposedly "for optimized characters" Pathfinder campaign, we have three players with tier 2 classes (an oracle, a magus [hexcrafter], and the GM's custom tier 2 spontaneous caster class), a player with a class well into tier 1 (arcanist), and then two players with two players with low-tier-5 classes (an aether kineticist and a TWF swashbuckler) who also have terrible builds on top of that.

I am apparently being called "too abrasive" even by the GM.

Sometimes, I wonder why I even bother with these groups.
>>
>>43621912
This is true. I also forgot to mention political/noble house intrigue above, along with devils n'shit. Then again. I did say it's set in Cheliax so mentioning it might be redundant, assuming you know anything about Cheliax.

Actually I forgot to edit the weight stat after changing the concept of her being a pretty much non curvaceous nerd bard (archivist) into a poor quality anime bombshell.
>>
>>43622013

You could make her a high quality bombshell by leveling out the proportions and maybe fiddling with her concept a tiny bit more.

Ulfen/Tian children are described as intensely beautiful, but that doesn't mean she's suddenly Ulfen sized with Ulfen+ sized tits. Size often plays a big role in how big the girls look on someone, so maybe she's just chesty (even by Ulfen standards) and 5'3.

If it helps, here you have her background:
Shuguru was born in the so called City of Strangers, Kaer Maga, in the district of Hospice. The estranged daughter of an ulfen ranger member of the Duskwardens and an absent kitsune part-time "courtesan" enchantress, Shuguru spend most of her childhood playing with street urchins, listening to the advice of the calystrian sacred prostitutes and learning from wizards, bards and other itinerant adventurers until the day she tried to steal a tome from the Therrasic Spire in a dare. The caretakers, for some reason even today Shuguru tries to figure, instead of killing the insolent girl decided to punish her in a different way, she will be forced to learn thassilonian and help visitors translate ancient texts belonging to that old lost civilization.
During her "formative years" Shuguru became obsessed with the Thassilonian empire: the mysterious Peacock Spirit cult, the disciplined church of Lyssala, the summoning of the Oliphaunt of Jandelay, the War with the Serpentfolk, the great monuments built by the giantfolk... for the kitsune all these facts seemed like fairy tales yet they were real.
When she bloomed into an astonishingly attractive fox lady and a desired singer by many tavern owners of Hospice district, the caretakers told her that she did payed for her crime and that was free of her obligations towards the Therrasic Spire.Shuguru so left Kaer Maga and headed to Magnimar, eager to see Irespan with her own eyes but her good looks and her exotic nature made her become constantly approached by the rich and powerful of the City of Monuments. During a time Shuguru became, like her mother, a courtesan for those living in Alabaster District, both men and women did enjoyed her company until the kitsune got bored and her desire to explore Varisia and find the treasures of the civilization that obsessed her during her childhood sparked again in her mind. During that time she became familiar with the texts of modern scholars, specially those of Brodert Quink. Shuguru wanted to meet the man in person, so she donated her fortune earned as an expensive lady of the night to orphanages and hospitals for the poor, keep enough capital for herself and headed to the peaceful town of Sandpoint.
Shuguru settled in as a teacher in the Turandarok Academy, spending the evenings in Haladan's bookstore with those members of Sandpoint's community interested into intellectual matters and in special with her scholarly hero. Soon Shuguru started to find that Brodert if brilliant was lazy and lacked the courage to explore the ruins that filled his academic literature, doubts which accentuate when she meet a chelaxian scholar who clashed with Brodert since very first time they meet each other.

That's something real-world courtesans were desirable for and something you could do here, she isn't just a pretty lay, she's an intelligent young woman clients can hold conversations with. If possible, I'd try to find a way to put points into Perform (Oratory) to reflect her way with words, perhaps she learned some Ulfen and Tien stories?

That "child of two cultures" thing might be fun to play up too; when calm and collected she's the spitting image of the ideal Tian woman, but get her riled up or panicking and she reverts to her Ulfen heritage.

I'd suggest having a scratchwork sheet to jot down weird words, if you're planning to focus on it. Is it just shouting really loudly? Is it tongue twisters so twisted they cause physical warping after travelling through the air? Is it actually just pronouncing "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh" correctly? Figure it out.
I'm personally fond of the idea of literally spitting curses at things to warp and damage them.

Watch out for dogs.

But no, seriously. The original culture from which drow originate - elven culture - doesn't concern itself with sexual fidelity (elves are more worried about fidelity of affection; they pair-bond fiercely, and falling in love with someone else suggests a flaw in the bond). When Lolth left and took all the fucks elves had to give with her, her people - the drow - didn't change much in that regard. Even today, after all the various mixing of blood with demons, dragons, etc etc, drow have an essentially elven attitude towards sex that's colored by their particular circumstances. Curiously enough, the bedroom's one of the very few places that a drow can expect to be totally safe - every now and again an enterprising priestess who slept through her history classes tries to assassinate someone while they're having sex or for having sex with someone she doesn't like, and ends up getting drider'd harder than a blasphemer.

For your "average" drow, their sex life is a series of 'build tension, establish baseline trust, do the deed, hang around each other for awhile, separate warily'. Drow affairs tend to be very passionate and colored by mutual use of the partner; males look to the females for protection and status, females look to the males for their talent and sometimes alliances based on house or affiliation. One of the biggest challenges one side or the other can face is when they have an interest in one half of the relationship (say, the politics) but can't stand the otehr half (say the guy is a poor lover). Thanks to the protection afforded to them by Lolth's ongoing insane eugenics program, the male is theoretically free to walk away and seek another relationship, which puts the female trying to make use of him in a bit of a fucking spot.

Getting better, drow are still capable of selfless love, but it's rare because of the above relationships being typical. When it /does/ happen, both sides often don't know what's up or what they're feeling.

And as the final act on this romantic comedy, outsiders - that is, potential enemies and allies - often have no idea what the fuck is going on either, which leads them to assume that the ferocity of the pair-bond is the result of some great but hidden advantage the two share with each other. Drow in love look /scary/ to other drow, who in turn tread lightly around the pair to avoid whatever hidden strength they've built against outsiders.

Meanwhile, Lolth eats popcorn and laughs both of her asses off.

This is actually some fairly sound advice, the best courtesans were as intelligent as they were beautiful, and her time as one (as well as her personality as an adventurer) should definitely reflect that.

Part of me thinks it might be funnier if she behaves like an Ulfen while calm and collected, but when riled up or panicking she slips into rapid-fire Tien.

Elves sound incredibly frustrating and obnoxious to deal with if your brain isn't wired like theirs (and it isn't, if you're not an elf).

How the hell do elves and other races manage to stand each other long enough to produce so many half-elves? This straight-up says that just interacting with a human on a regular basis is like having a constant headache.

For that matter, if elf brains and human brains are so wildly different, how the fuck do half-elf brains work?

As far as half-elf brains I dunno, I'll poke Fro. Though I'll note that with their life span being similar to dwarves', the perception of time may be similar.

I agree with you that, in any normal game, whining about optimization is a dick move. A scholar was walking through the woods early morning on his way to town to meet with the baron to discuss the nature of several strange artifacts and texts he had uncovered. Just outside of town, within sight of the tavern sat upon the road leading to the center, he happened upon a strange scene.

A bundle of tails, furry bodies and pointed snouts, at least four of them huddled together in the roots of a large oak, and behind them lay various weapons and supplies. "How peculiar." He thought to himself.

Perhaps they were the sport of a nearby hunter? But they had no wounds!

Why do these foxes sleep here? In such a bundle instead of in a hole?

And what of these weapons? They seem well used and not at all discarded but carefully placed?

And while he examined the supplies there was a stirring. And then a giggle. Before the scholar could turn about, he was nearly bowled over by a bushel of colorful tails and grabbing paws. Moments later the scholar stood with only his clothes and confusion about him, as the supplies, the weapons, the artifacts, texts and the foxes disappeared into the woods.

"Kitsune." he muttered to himself. "I hate foxes."

So, can anyone think of any use to having an item with absurdly high hardness? Is there like a way to temporarily lower an item's hardness for a bonus? Construct Armor modification lets you wear a construct as armor, and it soaks any damage you'd take while wearing it. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/building-and-modifying-constructs#TOC-Construct-Armor

Shouldn't I get the armor's acid resistance if I'm wearing the armor?

Doesn't this mean you could wear a fire-suit and still get incinerated by a fire because "the armor has the fire resistance, not you."
>>
>>43623600
Exactly. Dragonhide armor specifically says that the ARMOR is immune to the given element, not you. That's how it works. As written, literally the only thing construct armor is happens to be an incredibly expensive AC boost and pool of temporary HP that you have to remake if the temporary HP ever runs out. And it's even harder than usual to refill the temporary HP if by some miracle it doesn't run out.

To be absolutely fair, I can understand why they made dragonhide armor like that, because it's really fucking cheap and immunity to fire or whatever for like 350 gp or whatever would be too much. But the armor FAQ is just bullshit.
>>
>>43623600
Yes.

This means that the armor specifically designed to protect you with it's own resistances is actually incapable of doing so, specifically because it has resistances.
>>
>>43623396

>replaces medium armor with flurry instead of the Dodge boost
>heavy armor replaced with the upgraded flurry
>esoteric magus gets +10 land speed so long as they are lightly armored or unarmored, and only have a light load

>>
>>43623624
Oh, and I almost forgot. It's not actually temporary HP because if it happens to actually resist some damage, which 100% of constructs do in some form, the damage just goes straight to you. So you never actually get to use the damn temporary HP. It's just a really fucking expensive breastplate.

Amazon has very specific connotations while matriarchal does not, you should be aware of this.

A Fennec Kitsune tribe would probably be the same as how PF Catfolk actually behave, only with bigger ears.

In fact the more I think about it the sillier the concept becomes, since transplanting Kitsune from their eastern roots just turns them into generic fox people.
>>
>>43623851

Fix pricing shit.
>>
>>43623990

Fennecs would be to Kitsune as Halflings are to Humans, albeit with bigger ears.
>>
>>43623870
Lots more going into that system, including a numbers balance. Any specific things you'd like to bring up as examples? I attempted to price it so that you'd be spending about as much as magical equivalents, with an increase for when you're using both Magical and Non-Magical due to the interactions there leading to some incredibly nasty things.

Same goes to the large number of people who agree with you. Bring up specifics for comparison, it helps.

>>43623889
Keep an eye out, actually. Part of our first goal is to explore the place of the magic item, both in the game world and mechanically. This qualifies, but we are looking at it more from a GM tool perspective. Great option, though.

>>43623871
Do you mean like a Soulknife does, just more explodey? Not something we've really considered (or thought of, despite what I like to call myself online), but sounds like fun.

>>43623918
I can see where you (and the others who pointed this out) are coming from. We are looking into changing that to be less obviously evil-looking.

But anon, then they'd be lolis.
Also shortstack is not a singular body type, its all about size of head space relative to body, so a shortstack can be somewhat thin, or have mor A than T.

Example, see Yordles or Midna
>>
>>43624110
Yeah the thing is, people want to use it WITH magical shit, not as an entirely seperate system. Having it has a % based cost increase means it's useless, because there's never a reason to ever use anything but magic.
>>
>>43624028
So a Fennec's humanoid for would he a Halfling instead of a human? Could we have a Fennec whos humanoid form looks like Alfie?
>>
>>43624123

Just like Halflings are lolis, right?

And how is "oh their ass is huge, not the tits" any different than what I'm saying? Shortstacks are bland and always have the same huge "fertile" proportions and it's obnoxious how people assume that's just how it should be if you're not tall or young.
>>
>>43624167
No, and for asking now both human and fox forms look like ALF
>>
>>43624110
Other than how it drips blood everywhere, I really like the cloak for my NE Aasimar.
>>
>>43624110
Did you DSP guys already discuss where the Soulknife's soulbolt counted as part of the thrown weapon group? Elric said it would be discussed or something but no answer so far.

Only if you're shit and have shit tastes. Heck, most depictions of sane halfling art is neither Loli or Shota.
>>
>>43624273

Exactly, which is why it's annoying whenever someone brings up halflings or goblins or what-have-you and people start jamming chicks with hips wider than their bodies into the thread.
>>
>>43624273
>>43624337

>tfw there will never be a halfling love interest in Paizo content because they're grossed out at the logistics of such a relationship.
>>
>>43624337
I can't tell if you're agreeing with me or not. I sail Lolis are shit and shortstack is preferable. You said lolis, then agreed with me. What are you arguing

And before you say anything, Lolis and Shortstack are not the same, at all. And I already told you Shortstack is ONLY about head to body ratio, and the usage of adult human features scaled appropriately to the decreased body:head ration. For example, pic related is technically a shortstack. Do you understand now?

>>43624419
Sounds like they need thier ass kicked by Yondalla
>>
>>43624151
Understood. Trying to balance that with WBL is the hard part here, and believe me that conversation has gotten heated at times. I am looking at it, though.

>>43624238
Talking about it, yes. All of the non-Emulated Soulknife weapons, actually. No consensus just yet, but we are talking about it almost every day.

Patently false, shortstack refers to short women with endowed features, particularly in the chest or hips. It does not refer to women who are simply miniaturized.

Or have you never noticed the word "shortstack" is almost always followed by a goblin or halfling with huge tits, fat asses or comically wide hips?
>>
>>43624460
So I'm using DrowAnons document, which has extra shit, but the other document is lacking. Is that just a temporary thing or did it get cut?
>>
>>43624510
About 50-50. Some of it had to be killed for balance, others just haven't been added. Transference Vellum, for instance, I am going to definitely include (and most likely the other special materials).
>>
>>43624623
What got cut?
>>
>>43624717
Everything. All of Pathfinder. You're in a coma anon. It's 2028. We need you to wake up.

What's the best way to make a duelist without 3pp stuff?

Picture immensely related.
>>
>>43624782
Izzat some Utena fanart?

Never understood Utena, myself.
>>
>>43624782
You mean a character that uses the dueling rules, or a character that uses a dueling sword and has an absurd AC?
>>
>>43624782
The Duelist PrC? It's pretty neat if you invest in Int.
>>
>>43624782
Daring Champion Cavalier is good if you don't want any Magic, you can even double down with Order of the Eastern Star. Otherwise Magus can work.

The latter'd be nice, if there was a way to make that effective. From what I understand, the dueling rules are shit.

>>43624797
Sure is.
>>
>>43624933
Well duelling swords suck hard. I'd recommend a rapier or estoc isntead.

Huh, it's been a while since I looked at PF, didn't know they had dueling swords that weren't rapiers now.

How dumb. Anyway, not too chuffed on the specifics so long as it's a one-handed finesseable weapon.
>>
>>43624733
No way gareth, I'm in heaven now
>>
>>43625043
Then the rapier is your best option unless you take Exotic Weapon Proficiency to one-hand the estoc.

For class I like taking Lore Warden and then prestige into duelist, although that probably isn't the most optimal.
>>
>>43625262
>take Exotic Weapon Proficiency

Heirloom weapon is where it's at, and you're a fag if you use the new version.

Heirloom Weapon
>>
>>43625043
Rapier or estoc. Next depends on what mental stat you favor. If Int, Lore Warden Fighter into Duelist, or Kensei Magus (spell dancer is good if Elf). If Cha, Daring Champion Cavalier. Not sure if there is a Wis option aside from maaaaybe the Unchained Monk
>>
>>43624733
>>43624623
Hey, you two.

Can you use the Unbreakable Gambit against something like Poison?

Is there a difference if it's poison from a creature biting you and poison that was on a doorknob?
>>
>>43620943
Yes, I do artifacts.

Sometimes they're major plot points, but usually they're side quests for single character development.

I also like to include pacts with demons and arch - fey and whatnot. The player gets a boost in power, or versatility, at the cost of frequent story consequences or obligations.

I don't allow more of a raw power increase from such pacts than a single feat would grant, but I'm fairly accommodating in terms of versatility boosts in level - appropriate options.

I'm making my second Pathfinder character ever and I have no ideas how spells work. I want to be a wizard, is there some kind of fucking guide to this shit?

I have Treantmonk's guide but the whole process of preparing spells and the spellbook and shit is driving me nuts.
