I think we need to acquire pictures of TC from the 80's, to cast a model of sufficient accuracy for the setting.

The ones I use are:
Paras collecting drop canisters of equipment
Paras carrying wounded squadmates to an impromptu casualty station in a ruined building
The burning wreck of a Jagdpanther made with the extra parts from the plastic Panther box
A tank pitted Panther (see above)

For Team Yankee I'd be really tempted to do some sort of civilian based diorama. Something to show that it's obviously the 80s rather than the 40s. Maybe a Tesla Coil? Putin riding a horse? A nuclear missile launching?

>>
/tg/, what are the best types of Soviet Assault Guns to take in late war?
>>
>>43636572

Yeah, all of the place in early war.

>>43636757
They're more valuable as a way of shredding infantry, and adding them pretty much makes the tanks invunerable to infantry assault by way of defensive fire. Don't trust them to keep you safe against aircraft though.
>>
>>43636575
They've already stated that Brits are next, with West Germans after that.

Speaing of TY, I just noticed while looking at the product previews that the Hind kit comes with 4 magnets per helo; two for magnetising the hull to the flight stand and another two to magnetise the rotor assembly to the hull.
That should certainly make those things a lot easier to transport.

>>43636931
I'd say SU-100 for heavy long-range AT and the ISU-122 if you want to dig up infantry.
>>
>>43636931

Personally, I like SU-122s, but there are pros and cons to most of them. What's in the rest of your list?
>>
>>43636572
>>43636935
They're available in heaps in EW and MW and are a common recce option in LW, although by then there's multiple variants of Stewart and some units use hulls without the turret.
>>
>>43636931

SU-122s are brokenly good value.
SU-100s are great for killing tanks. The rest either suck, or are too expensive for most lists.
>>
>>43636945
> Two Strelkovy Companies, one platoon upgraded to SMG's in each Company
> Five T-34's or Three IS2-Orbr43
> 4 Zis 76mm field guns

In Berlin it's a bit different, since I can field four T-34's and the IS-2's.
>>
>>43636955
SU-76M are great ambushers and dig out infantry well. they're cheap because their armor is paper, which is enough vs most infantry. Just prioritize the gun teams with your 3+ FP.

Had a unit of 4 take out an entire unit of 4 FV PzIV when they ambushed. Considering they're 1/3 of the cost of those panzers, even if it doesn't always work it will pose a threat- their guns are just as good as the ones on a PzIV, with Volley Fire.
>>
>>43636972
May i ask why you only take 5 T-34's? they perform better in bigger units due to morale and squishyness reasons.
>>
>>43637194

Aren't they AT9?
>>
>>43637200
Still need to buy more, also I'm a great fan of infantry.
>>
>>43637194
>SU-76

Yeah against infantry with just small arms, otherwise no. I guess if you can take them if you like them but getting 4 platoon trained tanks with FA3 across the table is not going to happen. Hunting vehicles down with hen and chick, wont go terribly well either.

SU-122 are superior in shooting and are practically a serious threat to everything except the heaviest side armor. I had them shitfuck up my easy eights once really fucking bad when they flanked in dustup. They can really do a number on trained tanks without that much of armor. You have one round to shoot them off because they volleyfire trough the front plate and they will almost never fail firepower checks. And against infantry they are practically the soviet equivalent of Khorne Berzerkers.
>>
>>43636938
That's great then, British Challengers and Chieftains I hope.

I'm keen on making East Germans myself, should be a matter of changing the markings on vehicles
>>
>>43637653
Yeah, for East German forces, they'd mostly need new infantry models and potentially a set of decals for the markings.

Should be pretty good.
>>
Studying the BtA Team Yankee rulebook video, it looks like direct fire smoke has also changed in a pretty simple way:
If a team gets hit by direct-fire smoke, they count as concealed for anything shooting at them and they count anything they're shooting at as concealed.
Moving removes the smoke effect early.

That certainly simplifies things a bit.
>>
>>43637873
You forgot that the smoke itself stays in place where it was fired at even if the team moves out of the smoke.
>>
>>43638560
Ah, that part must have been one of the hard-to-read pieces in the video.

Looking forward to reading everything in full detail.
>>
>>43632255
>>43630342
A knocked-out tank would make sense, but not a burnt-out and exploded one. I agree with you there. Anon up there was talking about his Jagdpanther marker, and I can see that being necessary for recovery.
>>
Has anyone ever tried a fully mechanised list, like panzergrenadiers, Half-track mortars, marders and that?
>>
>>43638570
I can answer questions, today and tomorrow. I have the book with me.

But I won't have a chance to begin scanning until tomorrow night.

I'm not home this weekend. I'm on-staff at a sci-fi convention at the moment.
>>
>>43638741
One thing I'm wondering about: what are the effects of different numbers of guns on the bombardment to-hit scores?

And how exactly do minelets work?
>>
>>43638741

How do assaults go?

>>43638727
Not myself, but I've seen them around. They're viable.
>>
>>43638727

I'd rarely take a light-vehicles-only list - normally I'd want at least one platoon of real tanks or assault guns - but yes, I've done it. Lists where everything was mobile, and my strongest armour was my Pumas with FA3.

Tanks will, to put it mildly, push in your shit. But against an infantry list, you can redeploy so quickly that you can focus your effect anywhere you like, and, subject to terrain, utterly outmanoeuvre the enemy.
>>
>>43638958
>Tanks will, to put it mildly, push in your shit.
Wouldn't you just dismount and dig in at that stage? PF armed Panzergrens, with mechanised guns, SPG arty, etc, should do alright against tanks.
>>
>>43638846
>what are the effects of different numbers of guns on the bombardment to-hit scores?

1 gun: +2 to hit
2 guns: +1 to hit
3 or 4 guns: no modifier
5 or 6 guns: -1 to hit
7 or more guns: -2 to hit

>And how exactly do minelets work?

Range in as normal. Place 1 minefield marker per 3 guns firing within 2 inches of ranged-in marker.

May be done once per game per unit with minelets.

>>43638933
>How do assaults go?

I don't have the time to really read and summarize at the moment, but it looks much the same as assaults in standard FoW.
>>
>>43639096

Disclaimer, the below is just me, and no doubt smarter men than me have figured out a way...

>dismount and dig in

Sure. But only up to a point. Yes, your infantry can dig in, but your support platoons tend to be squishy, and small. You leave yourself vulnerable to a company-break attempt if you play they too aggressively, but are vulnerable to outmanoeuvre yourself if you hide them away. It's a challenge.
>>
>>43639403
I dunno what support platoons you're taking that are leading you to getting wrecked against Tanks?

My experience with both Panzer Lehr and US has been positive. Both ARP and Panzer Lehr get big combat platoons with a ton of anti infantry and AT fire. My support platoons generally consist of recce (the special rules help a little but this is a compromise any list that may attack has to take), armoured mortars (small platoon but DFS and/or dismounting helps), ATGs or marders (pretty great at defense), indirect fire assets like Nebs or 105s (also fine on defence)

Legit interested in what support units you're finding to be the weak point of your list on defence?

For the person asking about Assaults in Team Yankee.

Pic Related.
>>
>>43641790

Wait... infantry assaulting tanks got a ton worse! Always being TA2 against Top Armour massively reduces the value of man-portable AT.
>>
>>43642766
That's where hitting SA with your AT rating comes in.
Only, Abrams and T-72 have composite armour to protect them from HEAT rounds, if that works in assaults.
>>
>>43642766
you can still choose to soot side w' AT, hoss.
>>
>>43642804
>>43642885

Yeah, but side armour tends to be a lot higher. 8 Side vs 2 Top for both Abrams and T-72, and 16/13 vs HEAT respectively. Compare that to AT 17 for the RPG-7. Plus these heavier weapons are harder to swing in close combat, needing 6 to hit for the RPG-7, and 5+ for the Dragon ATGM.
>>
>>43642766
That was my impression as well. Infantry will have a much tougher time with tank assaults.

Both US and Soviet tanks have higher side armor against HEAT weapons, and most man-portable anti-tank rockets have the HEAT rule.

So it looks like destroying tanks will be the job of other tanks, higher AT missiles and rockets, or strike aircraft and helicopters.
>>
>>43642970

>So it looks like destroying tanks will be the job of other tanks, higher AT missiles and rockets, or strike aircraft and helicopters.

Which seems appropriate. I just wonder - as did military planners at the time - what role infantry will play on the modern battlefield. The traditional rock-paper-scissors seems to have been re-balanced.
>>
>>43643028
Is this a settled issue now? I admit TY is the first time I've been interested in cold war stuff.

I don't see what has changed when matching up infantry vs tanks its always been the infantry shacking up somewhere and playing the area denial game. Team Yankee looks to be the same.

Looking at the numbers PACT or NATO infantry is hardly helpless, no way you are going to want to assault them unless you had no choice.

>>
>>43651466
will it count as hitting the top armour then?
>>
>>43651593
It's kinda from the top, not an artillery strike. I personally would make it work more like aircraft cannons so it would hit the sides, it would be more balanced but still pretty accurate on how it works irl.
>>
I'm not sure that top armour represents literally the armour of the roof of the tank so much as its protection against artillery fire and infantry attack. A top armour hit could, I think, include things like wheels or tracks getting blown out.

Anyway, I like the suggestion of hitting side armour the other guy gave.

>>43651387
I want Chinooks.
>>
>>43651817
Do they ue chinooks in combat though? I always thoght chinooks had a purely transport role and it was used only to move troops from base to base or from base near a combat zone but not getting directly involved in combat.

>>43652537
I think we might see Black Hawks instead.

In fact, I'm hoping that the second wave of US/Soviet stuff (after the Brits and Germans) will provide airmobile formations for both sides.
That could be pretty cool, especially when facing off against each other.
>>
>>43652578
I would die to see apaches, afterall they were introduced in '84 so it's not impossible we will see them. Maybe we will get them along T-72As, Bradleys, M1A1s and other upgraded stuff
>>
>>43652578
>British black hawks
What?

The chinook (some emphasis on "the") is an iconic image of the Falklands era British Army, so I'd like to see it in game.
>>
>>43652603
>along T-72A
Allegedly the "T-72" in TY is, in fact, supposed to be a T-72A.
>>
>>43652603
Techincally, the T-72 we have in TY is the A variant, just without the optional ERA attached. It has the composite armour and stuff.

I suspect they might release a pack with plastic ERA addon sprues for the T-72 and a new T-80 kit instead.

Bradleys are a given and from what we've seen the pieces for the M1A1 are already in the plastic kit that has been shown. We just won't get stats and points values immediately.

As for Apaches, maybe. I'm not sure they'd add that much intertesting stuff beyond what the Cobra already offers.
I think a helo for US airmobile forces would be more interesting in general.
>>
>>43652622
Really? The rules seems a bit underwhelming, i mean it lacks Kontact wich was one of its main features, the cannon had a stabilizer wich was on par with that mounted on NATO tanks while in-game it's a bit worse and finally it completely lacks the missile launcher capability wich was another of its main features.
>>
>>43652650
Welcome to BF. Even at their best they can't do Soviets right.
>>
>>43652623
>I'm not sure they'd add that much intertesting stuff beyond what the Cobra already offers.

Big fat piles of Hellfire assrape. Instead of TOWs.
>>
>>43652650
>>43652654
Looking around, it seems Kontakt was introduced in 1985, while this is set in 1984.

In fact, the sources I found state that ERA on the T-72A is entirely optional; the main features separating it from the basic T-72 are the laser rangefinder, improved fire control and composite armour.

>>43652658
>Hellfire missiles.
Oh yes, those things.
For when you absolutely need to wreck those Soviet tanks.

Tried fiddling a little with the pdf we have with all the leaked rules for TY. Here's a list:
1x HQ abrams
3x abrams
3x abrams
full mech platoon
2x m901s
4x m163s
3x m109s
1x fist
4x warthogs
99 pts, 6? platoons ( don't know TY rules yet, i'm not sure if the fist team and the warthogs count as platoons)
So how's looking? I think AA will play a major role in TY while it's mostly useless in FoW.
>>
>>43652965
Looks decent.

The Abrams numbers seem kinda small, but we don't really lnow how things will work out with that yet, so it might be fine.

The Mech infantry should be a useful area-denial tool, at the very least against lighter Soviet vehicles.
In particular, the M901s should do well backing them up.

M163s seem to be almost a requirement for US forces in case the oponent brings along Hinds or Frogfoots. You need something bigger than a .50 cal to dissuade them.

The M109s with FIST seem useful as well.
Maybe spend that last unused point to give them bomblets or minelets?

Warthogs should deal tons of damage unless you fly them into a gauntlet of AA.

> 6? platoons ( don't know TY rules yet, i'm not sure if the fist team and the warthogs count as platoons)
TY has Units instead of platoons.
You have 7, 8 once the infantry disembarks. Aircraft are units in TY.

>I think AA will play a major role in TY while it's mostly useless in FoW.
I agree on that.
>>
>>43652965
Regarding platoon count your Combat Team (battalion? Whatever the fuck it is that has an HQ) takes morale based on its platoons ignoring support choices. So your A-10s won't count towards you losing if they die, but won't bolster your numbers for break point either.
>>
>>43652965
>>43653070
Yeah, only the units actually in your Armoured Combat Team count for formation morale. If that formation runs off (which can happen if all units in it are destroyed or in bad spirits) all of your support units will call GG as well.

A unit is in bad spirits if it has less than 2 operational vehicles or less than 3 infantry teams.

So you should be pretty careful with those units.

Looking at the back of the BMP box (pic related), it looks like the upper hull plus turret bits in the kits are entirely separate, which means it should be possible to magnetize the upper hulls and use your BMP models as both BMP-1 and BMP-2 as needed.

That's pretty interesting and useful.
>>
>>43653043
I'm still deciding wether to take mines or bomblets
>>
>>43653186
My experience with magnetising stuff is that I'd rather just run the wrong turret than have seperate upper hulls, but it's nice if the option is there.

Keep in mind a few of things about Team Yankee

1) In game its 1985 and both NATO and PACT equipment was in flux as old stuff was being retired. A lot of new American equipment especially had just started to be handed out to front line units, stuff that would later become famous in the 1st Iraq war.

2)Battle front doesn't have the resources to roll out every bit of equipment that was used by both sides all at once. For this initial release they are focusing on what was in the Team Yankee book. Expect more and more variant equipment in future releases. Thankfully upgrading will be as simple as swapping out the cards.

3) The T-72 stuff has been covered but as other posters have said, the T-72A didn't have an ATGM and while ERA was available it like a lot of other things was new and not always present. I expect that the next round of releases will include at least a card for the T-72B which will have an ATGM and at least the option for ERA.
>>
>>43653620
I find it can be a lot of work (especially dealing with superglue plus magnets where tools are often impractical) and the end product can often end up looking worse than just using a slightly incorrect one. Like, my BF Churchills have magnetised barrels so that you can switch between 75s and 6 pdrs but they end up sitting wonkily and look worse than if I were just using the 6pdr model as a 75, if that makes sense?

Likewise, the BMP 2 looks similar enough to the BMP 1 in that picture that I think I'd rather build the BMP-2 that I'd use 90% of the time and switch in just the BMP-1 turret than risk various complications and wonkiness?

Or take the Panther box as an example. One could build them with magnetised hulls but I'd only ever want to use 3 Jagdpanthers and already had five PSC Panthers so I just built 3 / 2.
>>
>>43653718
but magntising a turret (where battlefront has left holes for magnets) is a lot different to doing gun barrels or a whole hull.
>>
>>43654218
Yes? That's exactly what I'm saying. It's easy to magnetise the turrets but magnetising gun barrels or upper hulls is not worth the effort in my experience.
>>
Also, Eagles, if you're reading: how does the Spearhead rule (for recce teams) work? The bit on the card isn't a proper explanation.

Pffff thats nothing. That's not even the most you can take.

Here's the most you can take in this list lus some fun stuff like the assault rifle/pzfst command team who can move and shoot and ambush all on his own.

If you take this list at full retard strength, you can have 13 pak 40's, 9 on the ground, 4 on marders. 2 of the ground ones can combat attach to your infantry platoons, and another platoon can go into immediate ambush. Not to mention all the panzershrecks, the duck, and panzeffausts on pretty much any man with working hands.

The only thing that sucks is that I think they changed the list in the grey wolf edit. Used to be I thought you could take 17 pak 40's of various types.

>doubt there's a market for plastic king tigers

Nigga we have plastic M26's, and you can literally take no more than 5 in a list.

almost every major German book in the late war has some sort of King tiger list that, depending on points, can take up to 10 of the bastards. Especially if they come with Porsche turrets.

Not to mention people would buy them just for "apocalypse" games. I knew a store where they'd do a 4,000pt game every week just so they could break out all their Soviet and kraut heavy tanks at once. My god I've never seen so many king tigers and jagdtigers in my life.

I guarantee you that if a plastic king tiger box came out tomorrow, I'd buy enough to make at least 6. If they have options to make Porsche variants and jagdtigers, I'd buy enough to make 10. And I'd guarantee you damn near every German player out there would get a box just so he could run nachtjager and Desperate Measures lists.

also, I didn't realize thebritish had returned, missed that guy

Overall, I like it. The price is great, it's a quick build and the details seem to be better and more pronounced than the PSC model for the most part. No Sherman turret or options like tank commanders is unfortunate, mind you.

Bad news, Team Yankee got delayed. New Release date is December 12th.

The news is that If you pre-ordered you get an extra tank for your trouble though.

They say that they are having trouble with the die for the T-72, and in general they are being slower than they thought they would due to the size of the new vehicles.

Its on the Team Yankee official site.

Team Yankee uses a new 10x10 inch template (Apparently for the new artillery types or something) which is in the army deals, and at least according to the price I was quoted will cost $27 dollars when its available separately.

So assuming you where going to buy the new template the deal is a little better.

If they're having trouble with the dies then the 12th of December is rather optimistic.

I'd assume they *had* trouble and they were trying to catch up in time for the release date without letting the general public know about the behind the scenes trouble.

Only now they know they won't catch up, they're letting us know why, and they're pushing the release date back.

Bannon's boys an pom bears or whatever will still be available to purchase after the release right, they aren't just pre-order exclusive

My FLGS is supposed to be getting in several copies of both the US and Soviet set for team Yankee.

So it doesn't seem like it's a pre-order only item.

I'd imagine it'll probably be like most of the other plastic Army Box sets they've released recently.

I presume.

Interesting historical fact: A few Hungarian units were in Austria or Germany when the war ended and they surrendered to the British instead of the Soviets. The British treated them well and (due to Churchill's distrust towards the Soviets and Tito) some units were allowed to keep their weapons. There was one instance when the relations between the local British HQ and the Hungarian commanders was so good that the Hungarian troops were allowed to handle tasks like guarding the Allied HQ complex at Bergen. Turans and Toldis were patrolling the vincinity of the HQ, fueled by British fuel, the Allies needed every other tank at the time at other posts.

In other words, at one point there were Hungarian tanks in British service.

From what I have been told is that there will be this 1 run and that's it.

My flgs ordered ~12 boxes and all of them are already spoken for though odds are a few don't get picked up and so end up on the shelf.

Is that the same as what they normally do for their army boxes?

Those tend to be one production run as well if I'm not mistaken.
