Been playing for quite a while, but finally started branching out with other missions.

Did the Relic today, and I'm just curious; can it be contested? It says it's an objective, but it really feels weird. If it can, does that mean that a unit with obSec can actually control it, while it's in the hands of another, non-obSec unit?

Would three of these be a good take against necrons?

My friend is necrons and I will be playing him soon. I don't like cheesing out however and I am not a fan of spamming D everywhere so I was looking for an effective counter to his dudes.

Is there a way to get enough markerlights if you want to make a mono-suits (plus tanks) army with the Tau?
I suppose you could fill every unit with marker drones, but it really doesn't seems much compared to the sheer number of marker one squad or two of pathfinders can make

Again I repeat.

Dante called all Blood Angels companies and all Blood Angel successor chapters to Baal to defend it against the impending sandwitching that will happen when Ka'pandaman and Leviathan smash into the system.

Unlike the White Scars, the Blood Angels are loyal to their own. They would not forsake their homeworld and heritage to fight a meaningless war on the fringe on the Imperium.

I'm just assuming the new Bangle model is going to be included with the sequel to Khayon. Maybe it's some BAs who got a case of Warp time hijinks, or maybe it's a chapter that just found out they're primarch is Sang and decided to honor the right Primarch with dead Tau.

It isn't.

Shield of Baal and the events of the Damocles Warzone happen in the same year (999 41) and I am sure at the same time.

And when was the last time GW used the Warp time shenanigans to justify events?

>>43611087
I am just saying if Blood Angels or any of their successor chapters are present in Damocles while their home and heritage is facing near-certain annihilation, it would be extremely stupid.

>With slow, deliberate steps the Sanguinor approached the Chapter Master, wings brushing the bowed heads of the Blood Angels as he passed them. At last the two legends stood face to face, the silence heavy in the air. Without speaking Dante drew back his mask, showing the Sanguinor alone his face, and looked upon the blessed warrior with eyes unhindered by lenses or filters. Finally the question he knew he must ask came to Dante’s lips, though it was but a whisper meant only for the ears of the Sanguinor.

>‘Was it enough – can Baal still be saved?’

>For long moments there was only silence, and Dante felt sure there could be no answer. Then, for the first time in the annals of the Blood Angels, the Sanguinor spoke.

>‘There is yet hope.’

Dante is sweating a storm over what's going to happen. You think he would spare a company or two to send at the Tau of all people?

Possible but last we see them they were virtually destroyed by Kraken.

And why they stick around when Baal is in danger? I think dying defending the homeworld of their primarch is far worthy a way to go, then dying by the hands of the Tau.

The only confirmed Blood Angel successor that was in the Damocles region was the Blood Knighs. They retreated out of the warzone and headed towards Baal after Farsight handed them their asses.

They also have no choice in what they do, they're repentant. They go from closest battle to battle without being able to recruit and hope they make it out at the end. The 100 year repentance they're on is basically a death sentence.

I dunno, I'm trying to book these scenarios in my mind and if the upcoming Montka is the final chapter their hinting at some earthshaking thing that's going to rock the pilars of Tau society. So what are the possible plots of the book?

1- Imperial victory - roll back the expansion, Shadowsun disgraced, least likely to occur in my mind

2- Draw - Farsight intervenes in the war, provokes chaos daemon warp invasion. Imperium and Tau team up to defeat the daemons, war comes to an end (predictable and safe ending, Imperium saves face even if they don't get the clean win over the Tau, Ethereals cannot deny or hide the existance of Chaos)

3- Tau civil war - Most intriguing sceario in my mind, Farsight Enclaves fight along side the Empire, Aun'va pushes Shadowsun to kill him, they fight but exchange words on the nature of the universe, ethereal char dies (possibly Farsight's benefactor Aun'Shi or Aun'va), further creates a schism amongst the Fire Warriors

its going to be a cool ride either way they take it I think (as long as the Imperials don't fold like a house of cards)

They go to war in armoured transports and assault craft, their Swiftclaw outriders ensuring they reach the foe as an unstoppable tide. Engir has led many a successful quest across the Sea of Stars.
>>
>>43611643
The recent "Ice and Fire" story hints with the Calevera prophecy that Farsight will emerge victorious against the Imperium but in doing so he will transform into a monster. Farsight spent a good deal of time trying to alter that fate with the help of his Space Marine and Inquisitor friends.

And I only mentioned Aun'shi and Aun'va dying. The chances of Aun'va dying are probably next to nothing but I look at Aun'shi and his model is pewter and a decade old so if there's a char they can kill off it can be him.

Fenris is actually pretty warm half os its year, although its uear is considerably longer than standard Terran. The planet has a highly elliptic orbit which means it spends part of its orbit quite close to the sun and part of it much further away. The equitorial regions of Fenris are supposed to have very warm climate during the time it's close to the sun, so I wouldn't be suprised if the people there have darker skin.
>>
>>43611786
Just a heads up.

"The Arkunasha War" story by Andy Chambers is an old 4th ED story first published in a "Hammer and Bolter" issue.

It was recently retconned by Phil Kelly's "Farsight" novella.

I gotta say this because more than one anon got confused when they read them back to back.
>>
>>43611463
... the spaniards are the Crimson Fists. What nonsense are you talking about?
>>
>>43611847

>>
>>43611847
>>43611992
Not really sure how much it really retcons (aside from adding characters not mentioned in the 4th edition story), as they take at very different points of the same conflict. Farsight mostly takes place at the beginning of the conflict, while Arkunasha War takes place at the very end. Although Arkunasha War is already somewhat in conflict with what is mentioned in the FSE supplement.
>>
If they are putting out a new Blood Angels Chaplain, doesn't it seem plausible that they are doing something extra? Every new model has either been part of a larger release or a new campaign tie-in.
>>
>>43612138
> Farsight mostly takes place at the beginning of the conflict, while Arkunasha War takes place at the very end.

Nah.

in the short story Farsight arrival is covered. Farsight came and took over the Tau garrison and transformed them into an effective force but due to lack of support of the Empire they were ran bloody by the Orks.

In the Farsght novella, Farsight arrives with his own forces and is a commander among many on the planet. From there it follows the events introduced i the FSE supplement.

I've got a Necron Shield of Baal question about the text below:
>You can add them to an existing army, or use them to field a bespoke army from the Mephrit Dynasty. Certain units chosen from the Mephrit Dynasty Detachment and Formations can also make use of the Relics and Warloard Traits listed below.
So what is the kosher way I can add the formations from these list to my current army?
Can I take something like a 'Conclave of the Burning One' and just slot it into my Decurion?
Any if I take Relics from the Mephrit list I have to keep them with units from their list, yes?
So what's the correct ways I can combine these two lists, /tg/? Thanks in advance for any help.
>>
>>43612386
Only the formations and units listed in the Decurion can be taken as part of the Decurion. You could just take the Conclave as a separate detachment, though.
You could also use the Mephrit relics and warlord traits in place of the regular Necron ones in the Decurion.

Not him but do you have to take SOMETHING from the Mephrit dynasty to be able to use their warlord traits? Or you must have your Warlord from something of theirs?

On the same vein, I can take the relics even if I have nothing from Mephrit? Can I take from BOTH?
>>
>>43612425
>They're named after demons and the like mostly.

Thats Dark Angels.
>>
>>43612641
If you want to use the Mephrit warlord traits then your warlord needs to be part of a Mephrit detachment. That means you need to take more than just the allied detachment of them since allied detachments can never contain your warlord.

As far as the relics I think it's the usual deal. A mephrit detachment can take relics from either list, but not on the same model. So an Overlord has to pick from one list or the other, but his Cryptek buddy can pick whichever list he wants too.

Unless the formation says you can substitute a named character in place of a generic one, you can't do that. The Royal Court from regular crons allows you to swap in Orikan, for example. If the formation doesn't give you those options, you don't get them.

Don't act like people will just gobble up anything FW related.

So far the only independent project they have done is 30k which is great, and well balanced so it's fairly popular.

Do you know of anyone that actually buys FW models that have bad rules? No you don't. No one wants to spend like £80 for a model that has shit rules.

Well, unless that anon uses a tidewall. And the other non-suit units are an option like Vespid and Kroot so the list could still be very diverse without the big suits. Now effective is a whole other story of course.

Just my opinion. I think the tau don't fit in well with the whole 40k universe. They have their little niche in the universe but it seems to be so horridly hand graved by the fluff that it doesn't blend well with the setting. "Rose to power and already has the better tech in the universe" and "Communist ideals" are kind of a poor taste in my mouth.
Another thing I hate about the Tau setting is that they are a very white colour on the 40k pallet. Every faction sits somewhere inbetween the "White Purity" and "Black Evil" with an interesting, different blend except for the Tau. The only "Mix" of gray they have is them using mind control and won't hesitate to kill you if you don't join them. Thats not grimdark, thats shit-stain at best.

>Tl;dr: The tau belong in a setting that isnt 40k

No, you still need to shoot the thing you want to charge, otherwise dont shoot and charge whatever.

Am I correct in reading that the Hatred USR doesnt require you to charge in order to get its benefit? What I mean is, a unit that has Hatred gets to reroll to hit in the first round of combat whether he charged or is getting charged as the special no longer specifies that you need to charge (Unlike the 6th ed version of it).
>>
>>43614639

They are fantastic - You can do three S7 Torrent Templates that ignore cover, wound him on 2's and ignore his armor on 6's.

Or you can combine them to one Str 9 AP4 Large Blast that will ignore most warriors armor and reduce their FNP. It's a great unit to take vs Necrons

Take Warp Spiders too
>>
>>43614697
It doesn't increase AP, just strength and shots.
>>
>>43614666
In that case if he doesn't shoot any guns he can still charge whoever he wants.

It is also worth mentioning the Kytan can charge a different unit than the one he shot at ONLY if HIS shooting attacks killed that unit which isn't quite as good.

>>
>>43615580
everything has worth. i never got into them and only glanced at them for 40k related fluff. they were for branching out into other game types or campaigns at the lgs. they also filled a niche that no one else had or because they were GW related they were more noteworthy. everyone is making a 28mm "heroic" scale miniature game but gw put out other games at different sizes with different rules. also there's tons of tabletop games that die quickly because it's an unknown, while you would at least know who GW is. this was like 10/20 years ago and in this time it's different.

i'm probably wrong about this but look at flames of war, 10mm or so right? well GW had epic and was like playing 40k at like 10,000 point range only really small so you could have more.
>>
>>43615719

Okay. Eldar army. This time reading the right codex. Oh my fucking god who was responsible for balancing this shit? Why would they make so many things that used to cost points be free? Anyway:

2000 points

2x Farseer - 135 points x2
The Spirit Stone of Anath'lan
Skyrunner Jetbike Upgrade
Singing Spear

Spiritseer - 85 points
The Spirit Stone of Anath'lan

2x 10 Wraithguards - 580 points x2
D-Scythes
Wave Serpents with Shuriken Cannon, Twin-Linked Eldar Missile Launcher, Holo-fields, and Ghostwalker Matrix

Wraithlord - 160 points
Shuriken Catapult/Flamer
Ghostglaive
Scatter Laser
Brightlance

Wraithknight - 325 points
Suncannon and Scattershield
Scatter Laser
Shuriken Cannon

Wraith-based army. Wraithguard with D-Scythes look great. Wave Serpents are there just in case fast movement is required through the map at all and to support fire particular with the Twin-Linked Eldar Missile Launcher that's effective on a ton of things. The Wraithlord and Wraithknight are fantastic elite units that'll be giving lots of heavy support fire.

The Spiritseer is there mainly to give the Wraiths a boost as he's able to give plus minor psyker support. The Farseers are there on Jetbikes so they can quickly move all over the map giving all sorts of crazy heavy psyker/HQ support.

Like I said last time I ain't any good with running quick hit & run tactics in RTS and tabletop games, but I still wanted to try Eldar so here's my attempt at an Eldar army that's more slow moving but still packing a lot of firepower.
