Sphinx's Rev for 15 Edition
What are you building/playing/brewing?
What are you excited for from BFZ and hope for from Gatewatch?
What happens if everything is countered and they rev for 15?

shit build, would not take to modern FNM.
>>
Just let the thread die.

i do declare that we must simply let this meme die my good fellow.
>>
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/gw-collected-bears-2/
Well, since I can't find the real Modern General thread, and I legitimately need help with this build...
>>
>>43600154
This is the real mg thread my friend, I'm afraid the old one is gone. Welcome to 4chan
I'll take a look at your deck and get back to you, just give me a minute.
>>
>>43600154
Okay, so. What help do you need with this? It looks like a decent build, are you just looking for suggestions or is there a specific matchup you have problems with?
>>
>>43600154
So what's the matter with it?

Personally i'd rather play little kid junk or collected chord, but this looks fine.
>>
>>43600154
Okay, I found one real problem that sticks out to me. You do realize that you can't tap Horizon Canopy for colorless, right? Every time you tap it, it hurts.
>>
>>43600154
Thalia doesn't like CoCo as much as you with she would.
>>
>>43601204
Yeah I'm aware. I've thought about using Brushland instead, actually.
I'm just looking for general advice, things I may have missed or not thought of in deck construction.
>>
>>43599102
I really hate the rev for 15 meme. It's so dumb
>>
>>43600154
>http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/gw-collected-bears-2/

more thalias/vryn wingmare. Mirran crusader should really be in the sideboard, its only situationally good and it dies to bolt AND path. swords aren't very good in modern, especially in a company deck where it could be another creature.

Just got my set of goyfs, so I'm sort of building Zoo to have a second complete deck to throw at a friend if they want to play modern.

Nothing. BFZ is meh at best and Oath as well as Shadows Over Innistrad and Return to Return to Ravnica will all probably be pretty crap for all constructed formats.

redpill me on loam pox please

a local guy plays it and it seems incredibly strong and resilient (baring the burn matchup), but he also says it's incredibly hard to play. Is he right or is he just elitist and/or I don't know how to play against it?"

>>
>>43607786
>>43607987
*nods respectfully towards you*

Seriously, what the fuck?
>>
>>43608086
This, it's a key piece to storm that only got banned because of 'consistent turn three wins'
Which... currently happens with other decks anyway.
>>
>>43605771
Hulk footsteps
>>
>>43605771
Fold Into Aether
>>
>>43608306
It does happen with a few decks but not consistently.
Storm isn't fun anyway. It has no interaction and is completely linear
>>
>>43608744
So how viable is storm? I'm kind of looking for a fun deck to play that isn't a tier 1 deck, I already have one of those. Is storm a good choice? I already have all the expensive cards.
>>
>>43608744
It does happen consistently, to say otherwise is to be wrong.
Amulet Bloom is consistent starting on turn three
Twin consistently gets its first combo opportunity on turn three
Storm can die to a fucking leyline, those other decks can't.
>>
>>43609072
>Twin consistently gets its first combo opportunity on turn three
But that's wrong. Twin is cmc4. Turn 4 is not turn 3.
I wouldn't doubt Bloom gets neutered soon
>>
>>43609311
>first opportunity to combo
That's actually correct, as you play Exarch/Miteymite at the end of turn three. Which is what allows for the combo on turn four.
>>
>>43608744
>It has no interaction and is completely linear
Much as I respect the dubs, this is wrong. Storm isn't completely linear, at least if you build it properly. It should have the ability to win in three different ways maindeck and can board others in.
>>
>>43609336
Exarch isn't the combo Exarch+Twin is the combo so this "opportunity to combo on turn 3" means nothing. By that logic Titan's bloom "Opportunity to combo" is turn 1 since that is when you play the amulet, so half the combo.
>>
>>43609379
>It should have the ability to win in three different ways maindeck and can board others in.
What kind of kitchentable fantasy storm have you been playing?
>>
>>43609389
someone isn't understanding my shit
Okay, so what I'm saying, isn't that the combo HAPPENS on turn three, what I'm saying, is that the combo STARTS on turn three.
Also, are youn telling me you've never played against ritual twin? Because that's a deck that combos turn 3.
>>
>>43609416
Fairly standard list, 2 Bolt, 1 Warrens and 2 Grapeshot maindeck with additional of Warrens and Bolt in the board.
>>
>>43609450
And Titan Bloom starts on turn 1. Okay, what does this prove? What meaning does this hold?
>>
>>43609416
Except he's correct, it should.
>Grapeshot
>Dragon Storm
>Warrens Bomb
There are other viable options, but these are too of my head.
>>
>what are you hoping for in Oath
U - Instant
Counter target colorless spell.

I'd also accept
1U - Instant
Counter target colorless spell. Draw a card.
>>
>>43609450
>Also, are youn telling me you've never played against ritual twin? Because that's a deck that combos turn 3.
>you've never played against a shittier version of another deck??
>>43609452
There's no reason to maindeck Bolt because the only maindeck thing you
>1) have to kill
>2) can kill with bolt
is gonna be Eidolon of the Great Revel. Bolt is good with Ascension but has no synergy with your other combo piece, Electromancer.

Also, Warrens does nothing against a lot of decks so it's kind of a dead draw.
>>
>>43609475
>Turn three Exarch,

>>
>>43609543
Is this going to become a new meme?
>>
>>43609452
>Fairly standard list
>2 Bolt, 1 Warrens
No. Nobody mainboards either empty or bolt anymore, nor should they since g1 is your strongest time to just go off without caring for interaction or hate, fucking Scour is a more likely mainboard option than those 2. Even if it did, bolt isn't a fucking wincon unless you have already grapshoted for 10+ which defeats the point to begin with.

Look at literally every recent on goldifsh or top8.

Whoa, this thread is like a time capsule. I swear I saw this conversation about six months ago before they announced no changes for the format.

Anyway, I'm building UR twin right now, just need a playset of each of the blue zen fetches and a Cavern of Souls. Or maybe I could just forego the cavern and play two Desolate Lighthouses instead of one lighthouse and one cavern.

Bring to Light is the best card in BFZ for modern, is already seeing play. A four color Scapeshift deck has already top 8'd a couple huge modern tournaments with 4 Bring to Light and 3 Scapeshift.

So far from BFZ, I'm sick of opening packs. I bought three boxes and didn't open a single expedition. I'm really good at drafting though, I've won or tied for first all of the drafts I entered in. I still open shit in my packs though.
>>
>>43614964
Which edition was the goyf? Assuming it was a MMA/MM15 one for $120, $190 doesn't seem that bad for a set of wastelands. But it depends on the condition too. Were they near-mint? If they were near-mint I'd pay $200 for a playset.

Here's the sideboard. To explain it; I was kind of going for a burn/aggro thing where I would make mana with burning tree and elvish mystic to go wide and then use the lighting bolts/ kicker'd burst lightnings to remove guys and do extra damage. In retrospect, I could probably cut a lot of the 2 mana creatures for something more effective.

I'll probably get some hate for this, but it's the truth.

This card is the epitome of what I enjoy in Magic.
It's incredibly powerful, but requires lots of thought to be maximized, all the way from deckbuilding to the moment you cast it.

Its triple blue on a four mana spell, and the decks that want it are the most likely to be three colors with no nonland mana fixing of any kind, so playing it puts you into a serious commitment to blue, more-so than almost any other spell in the format.

Yes, counterspell+cantrip is the defacto best mode, but it's incredibly clunky in a turn 4 format, and knowing when to tap creatures and buy time, or bounce lands for tempo, or bounce your own creatures is critical to using The Command to it's highest potential.

Birthing Pod

if you guys ever watched yugioh, when pegasus used his millenium eye all the cards in his deck would appear before him and he would rig his deck and choose what he gets. thats what playing birthing pod feels like. the power of choosing the card u fetch is insane, but its not completely broken like survival was, you have to carefully plan your deck and know the optimal things to sac, what u can get at any given moment. it made your deck a fucking toolbox and it was so unbelievably cool
>>
>>43617957
psionic blast

i really dont know why, the goofy art and the effect is really sick. it was my first time shifted card and i read it and it blew my mind that blue had this effect

force of will is sick too, the art captures it perfectly. it feels like a cornerstone piece of magic, one of the most essential and early spells in lore. like the first cavemen sorcerors had basic ass magic like fire shoot and move rock but this guy in the art uses his entire might to stop another guys spell instead of doing his own shit. it feels like the most savage and primal form of blue magic, sacrificing your body (pay 1 life) and mind (lose a card) to overwhelm your opponent with your fucking willpower

Grixis is for Tasigur, period. He opens up a lot of card advantage and a 4/5 body. He's the reason you splash B.

Because the most it will get you is 2 damage in exchange for 2 life.
And although that can be good for a finished, it isn't that great.

Been playing nyxwave. It's pretty hilarious because no one really expects it, they expect combo elves. Then out of no where turn 3 nykthos into garruk wildspeaker, Genesis wave for 4 or 6 into another nykthos and garruk and keep going until you craterhoof. Currently running Strangleroot geists and kitchen finks main deck. They're just so resilient against burn and jund, even splinter twin if they don't have a remand in hand. Rending volley makes game 2 a lot better against splinter twin. I haven't had a chance to play against tron, but I would imagine it be resilient enough to fight a turn 3 karn. That or just blood moon.

>>
>>43628251

Tasigur is fucking amazing and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I play this guy in Jund and he's excellent nearly everytime. When I play against Grixis, when they manage to cast a Turn 2 Tasigur, it's crazy hard to deal with outside of Terminate and Liliana (and even she is too late if you are on the draw).
>>
>>43630561
>Tasigur is fucking amazing
No he is not. Hes garbage and just proves that delver players can't get over the fact that their shitty deck was banned out of the format so instead of letting go they try and use a shit card to justify playing it still.
>>
>>43628251
Unfortunately not, no. Delve is only good if you're absolutely certain you're not going to be using certain cards after they're in your graveyard. Play Reanimator Dredge instead.

>>
>>43607786
i would replace the inefficient cards that have more effective versions first of all

for example encroaching wastes could be a tectonic edge.

also i would replace all the 2 mana 2/1's with a draw back with 1 cmc 2/1's with an upside

for example dryad millitant fulfills the same roles as the bears/bear-draw backs but it comes down on t1 and shuts off decks that want to get taisigur out asap agaisnt aggro decks (grixxis delver or grixxis twin) shuts off living end and living twin, and also hoses U/R storm's past in flames just by being there.

some decks also run gurmag angler or murderous cut in fringe decks

also pisses off tarmogoyf players

also pisses off snapcaster decks

and that's just 1 change.

i think the 1/1's could be replaced with monastery swift spear

it's a 1/2 haste for R that get's more powerful when you cast combat tricks that are instants. or cast sorceries prior to your declare atkrs step.

also it just swings faster

you're not running too many goblins for foundry street anyways

since you're green red Kird ape might be good

maybe even wild nactl

that's literally less than $2 in upgrades
>>
Is tron at all winnable with B/W Tokens or am I just looking to dodge them/get nut draws?
>>
>>43634436
tron is really really good against swarmy decks due to their high volume of pyros, uggies and ostones. that being said, if they dont get those fast enough and u have even a bit of time to build up, you can abuse it. karns dont rly do shit against tokens, but you would have to have stuff to deal with wurmcoil. basically if you have godly draws to somehow apply enough pressure you can beat them, otherwise they just are too well equipped to beat u. id say the matchup is 30-70 or worse for u
>>
What deck has a good matchup against Affinity and RG Tron? My meta is fucking full of that shit
>>
>>43634436
I like to Sideboard my Tokens deck for Tron, then you have to hope to draw it.
Generally if you side for Tron, you side for your other unwinnable matchup - Bloom
Duress is better vs Tron than Inquisition of Kozilek, the amount I would put in I dont know, I personally put 2 in.
Your chance of winning revolves around Liliana and Sorin with Pithing Needle. Ghost Quarter is also core. You absolutely require Pithing Needle, theres no option, you have to Sideboard it in, preferably 4 copies.
Theyll probably predict it and side in natures claim, but you have no other option. With Ghost Quarter you may have a chance, but its such a bad matchup its ridiculous
>>
>>43635303
Even then, all it takes for them is to resolve anything and you lose
You have to play like a midrange deck. Just remove their shit and hit them as hard as you can, but its rarely enough

Nothing of note. Bring to Light is being tested in 4 color Scapeshift but so far it's neither been clearly better than or enough to really move the deck up or down a tier, and that's about it.

I don't know about anyone else but BFZ really sucked the fun out of playing magic in general for me a bit, an effect that has lasted to this day and I don't even play standard.

Sun's Champion is pretty good but by design she is win-more. I mean if you can resolve her turn 6+ then you must be already ahead to have lived that long, since this isn't standard, plus even if you do resolve her you don't "win" you win after 3-4 turns which is already a stretch on a 6 mana card.

Decklist was pic related
except that the olivias were gone, only one Tasigur, one Huntmaster, 4 Dark Confidants, 2 mainboarded abrupt decays, 2 Maelstrom Pulses, the Treetops were replaced with Raging Ravines, sideboard was three feed the clans, two anger of the gods, an abrupt decay and a jund charm.

Round one was against Bant swords or something. Between abrupt decay and kolaghan's command the match went very quickly. He was really salty afterwords and left without saying anything

Match two was against a local burn player. He won game one hands down but I managed to win the next two games with hand removal. I only won the very last game because I managed to K command his newly drawn rift bolt away before he had the chance to cast it

Match three was against Esper Control, not a whole lot to say. I just landed a few Tarmogoyfs and swung out. Not too bad and he got mana screwed on game two, leading to an easy victory for me.

First match of top eight was against Tezzy affinity, ran by a dude who owns a local shop. He got a game loss because his deck was messed up, so I only had to win once. When he animated both an Inkmoth and a Blinkmoth i K-commanded them both to death and that was that, just beat him with Tarmos

Next was Zoo. God zoo was stressful jesus christ. He mulliganed down to five and still managed to beat me on the first game. Game two I managed to land a Lilliana and control the game, but I got A-commanded like three times that game. Game three another Lilliana controlled and he didnt see many creatures.

Finals was against a dude who had a foiled Splinter Twin deck. We decided to split because neither of us really wanted to play it (so looking back i guess I didnt really win whatever). He got three of the planeswalkers and I got the two I wanted. And some store credit. Overall really glad I went

I usually play Twin, Affinity, RDW or UW Kiki. A couple weeks back I tried Junk and did terrible.

I just put that SCG Dallas winning zoo-ish thing together, but with Goblin Guides instead of Kird Ape. Chickened out last night after seeing Infect and Junk (small meta) and went with Affinity for an easy 4-0.

Thread is old in the water now, but here's my newest Modern deck. Made it public so people can see / comment / vote / bash (though let's be honest, bashing will probably remain here)

No, I do not play in tournaments. Just casual. For my group of friends and our local card shop, it works just fine. I know probably half of you here can rip it apart and rebuild it better but I'm still new to this. It's what I got and it's just fun to use.

Holy shit, retarded
With 0 real thought put into it I'd say something like
>Bolt
>Snapcaster
>Goyf
>Cranial Plating
>Abrupt Decay
>Goblin Guide
>Cryptic Command
>Liliana
>Dark Confidant
>Inkmoth
and I'm sure that's pretty wrong too but at least it isn't that

So I currently am building a Jund deck and have all the pieces BUT Tarmogoyf. Since I own all these cards I may as well fill the 4 slots and play the deck, what is a good substitute for Tarmogoyem in Jund? My local meta is like 5 sub-par burn players, Grishoalbrand, Boggles, and Affinity.

Post your list with empty slots.

Not like they replace Goyfs, but Kitchen Finks and Fulminator Mage are decent cards in your colors. Fulminator Mage with Kologhan's Command can really punish decks sometimes.
