The only flaw I can think of is "Not enough ADB-style Angron" but hey! That's we have 'Betrayer'.

Nice try, OP, but this trilogy is as good as 40k gets. The only thing arguably better is, as I mentioned, 'Betrayer'.

Not really, she says part of them never matured beyond childhood, which is true. They are taken at 11-12 and grafted/indoctrinated into killing machines, desensitized to violence and learn to kill for duty then pleasure. It is much easier to rewire and indoctrinate someone who hasn't had a life, a family or a set personality, and they make them into the best weapons the imperium has. SM are basically overgrown child soldiers.

ADB acknowledged this in the intro to book 3. The expanding/changing HH information made his original NL fluff for the book no longer viable and admits the new chronology is a blatant retcon on his party.
I'm curious if the first two books will be edited to fit in with the new info in this new omnibus.

>>
>>43610262
Yeah, I actually really don't care for Abnett. I like Eisenhorn, but even that has some issues that bug the crap out of me; mainly the breaks in writing that can be as bad as three paragraphs, then one sentence, then a two-sentence paragraph, and then three pages. The inconsistency there drives me nuts.

I LOVED the characters in Gaunt's Ghosts, but the narration was just so dry.

Horus Rising was incredibly boring up until the Interex were encountered. If nothing else, because none of the characters had any real distinct qualities and felt very same-y, especially everyone in the Mounival. I had a lot of trouble telling who was who in the Mournival because they were all just so unremarkable. ADB did a MUCH better job at developing personalities of the cast, both Space Marine and not, in False Gods, IMO.

And Brothers of the Iron Snake was just awful. It was a combination of the dry-as-fuck writing of Gaunt's Ghosts and the bland characterization of Horus Rising (but even worse).

That and CONSTANT scene shifting to characters I barely even know.

What about "Talon of Horus"? Any flaws in that book other than being little Abaddon in it?
>>
>>43610059
Ive only read a few books but I like that when he still doesnt make every battle a curbstomping. In Betrayer that last stand on Amatura with the Ultramarine Breachers was awesome, as was most of the bits featuring Loyalists in the Night Lords books
>>
>>43607506
Boy Love books are pretty much geared towards females.
>>
>>43610487
He portrayed Abaddon completely different to how I imagined him. I imagined him as a grand warchief, conquering countless warbands by the sword. Here, we have Abby, the guy in his ship, in the middle of nowhere, dicking EC with one strike. It's cool, but not grand.
I know there's more books coming so I'll give ADB the benefice of the doubt, he'll give him more power in later books I guess, but that book was meh for me. I learned more about the TS in this book than the BL. About that, he needs to qtop with his "BL is a new legion guys! It's not the Sons of Horus with a new paint!"

Yes it is. BL has always been a majority of SoH with a bunch of everything thrown in, to make an average legion, with no emphasis on everything.

I thought ADB liked the Black Legion?
>>
>>43611351
That's probably rhe way he wants to start, I think he's supposed to do a trilogy, he has plenty of time to do some character development but yeah, it felt weird.

I'm still scratching my head over him catching Worldbreaker with the Talon. I mean yeah it's the Talon and it's just a clone of the original Primarch but still. It felt like Abby was the Primarch and the clone was a flimsy human.
>>
>>43611400
The clone didn't have the blessing of the Chaos Gods.

Abaddon did.

The Chaos Gods made their intention clear. Horus must not be be reborn.
>>
>>43611351
>Abaddon
>Bitch

Dude despite his few scenes in the novel was awesome.

Also the limited edition included a short story where Abaddon travels around the Eye and the galaxy. He visits the tombs of xenos kings and queens (probably Necrons). Abaddon during this first book was in his sage mode mediating on his purpose and future.

In the next book, Chaos Gods willing, we will see his a conqueror when he launches the First Black Crusade.
>>
>>43611444
He didn't have the blessing at that time. He earned each blessing after long trials.
>>
>>43611544
He still was a Chaos champion, he wasn't THE CHAOS CHAMPION as in being the Ascendant.
>>
>>43596557
2 and 3 are basically copy paste of the 1st book.

3rd book basically copies plot elements from Lord of the night and tries to make sense of them even tought they dont.

super overrated shit.
>>
>>43611568
Also the clone (or the revived corpse of Horus, it's not clear) was battered and bloody by the battle with the groups of space marine Abaddon brought with him. I bet that sapped an amount of his strength.

Very few Black Legionnaires would be original Sons of Horus though, since most of the latter died off early in their post-Heresy history. Which was the case even in their first incarnation, when they were the least numerous Traitor Legion, of unknown allegiance, and Abaddon didn't exist.

They'll still have new 'true' Sons depending on how much of Horus's gene-seed they manage to scrounge up, but then there's the whole thing with Abaddoo wanting them to leave their past behind (though I think it wasn't until the 6th edition supplement that the fluff finally explained how continuing to plaster themselves in Horus's iconography fit into that). Now it doesn't matter where your gene-seed came from, or which god you serve, so long as you're loyal to the topknot.

>>
>>43611959
He was talking about the Talon of Horus novel.
>>
>>43611959
I was talking about the "Talon of Horus", not the Night Lords Omnibus.

I haven't given the Night Lords series a proper read but from what I gleamed from my quick reading is that Abaddon didn't really care about the MC joining the Black Legion. He was just doing his Night Lord ally a favor by asking the MC to join. When the MC refused, Abaddon didn't really give a damn and returned to plotting his Crusade.

Ah...also in the Night Lords series there is a long speech the Exalted gives the MC on why Abaddon is so great.

Did you even read the book? He is warp touched, he's a repressed psyker like the Prince of Crows. It's also probably why he so adamantly tries to resist the touch of Chaos, knowing it would sweep him away into insanity.
>>
>>43611606
It should also be noted that clones in 40k are soulless. The Horus clone Abaddon fought was now 100% Horus, it lacked the soul that made the Primarchs so special. The Clone was probalby dramatically weaker than all the other primarchs, due to lacking the special psyker powers that buff every Primarch.

I didn't really like Talos at the end and I found his justifications in his actions lacking from what I first thought of him at the start...though I assume that was the point, a character doesn't have to be likable to be a good read. I loved the books though.

I found it an interesting parallel that the more he found himself in the position of a leader, having to give directions and purpose to the bunch I murderrapists that were the 10th company, the more his thoughts and reflections grew closer to Curze's. The growing crazyness included.

No wonder both went out making a last stand or a last gesture which they found grand and significant but maybe less understandable for other people.

Talos is mentioned in passing as, "The apothecary from tenth company", I believe in Prince of Crows.
