So what are some interesting Paladin concepts/character concepts that would be refreshing/non-standard?

When it comes to Paladins, I found some interesting concepts:
1. A Paladin of a dream goddess that guards people while they are sleeping, protects their dreams from nightmares, goes cheerleader mode so that people would fight off their nightmares, and tells people to follow their dreams.
2. A Bardic Paladin that does both things a Bard and a Paladin can.
3. A Paladin of a god of fear that is pretty much what if Batman was a Paladin that would summon scary shit to terrorize evil beings.

Yup.

And back then the portraits were supposed to look more animesque.

Pity they changed it.

Heh. Did something about that third point.

The Paladins of Fear, known also to some as Dreadknights, are the servants of the god called Noc.

Noc is the god of fear, horrors, nightmares and terror. For some reason however he is different in that despite the elements that would qualify him to be a member of the evil gods such as Bane, he is also a god of justice and tenacity against the nightmares that haunt the mortal realms. Although his tenets are spreading fear, he also adds that only those who do evil are to experience these. The Dreadknights themselves do not succumb to fear. One wonders what their trainings include that they are the stone cold individuals they are.

Noc's Paladins differ from those of other gods in certain aspects. While Paladins are courageous, the Dreadknights literally fear no evil, for they are fear incarnate. No horror, either material or supernatural, cannot break them. Whereas even the most strong-willed adventurers break in fear, the Dreadknight casually walks onwards. While normal Paladins resolve certain situations with diplomacy, the Dreadknight will simply induce pure fear in the hearts of evil creatures. Even if those are demons or eldritch monstrosities, none is beyond Noc's grasp.

The creed of the Dreadknights is that only in through overcoming their fears can they see that for what they truly care. This implies that many of these individuals experienced personal tragedies that prompted them to don their obsidian black armors and regal blue capes and become the ones who strike fear into evil. Despite the aura they radiate, these warriors are as heroic as their counterparts serving other gods, and will stand guard against the evils in mortal hearts and the horrors that would blast a mortal's mind into oblivion and hurl him into the abyss of insanity.

So he's like a more darker version of Torm?
>>

Didn't flesh him out sadly, so cannot see him as a darker Torm.

On the other hand I dig the idea of a god that looks like the stuff of nightmares yet will target actual evil beings and make people find the resolve to conquer their fears (hence the tenacity part).

Coated in worn out leather and armed with a flail. That is the paladin, chosen by the god of harvest. Defending peasants from wild beasts and oppressing nobles.

A Peasant styled Paladin?

Seems like a neat concept.

An Iron Chef prestige class for warriors and monks.

Kicks asses and makes delicious cuisines from monster parts. The higher the level of gastronomic capabilities, the better food he'll produce. Some foods will even raise the stats of party members for a certain time.

>Warrior poet paladin who serves his order by knowledge hunting and artistry
>Paladin with a god complex, believes he gains his divinity through self worship
>Spec ops paladin who operates more like a rogue; regularly sent on precision strikes against his church's enemies
>Dank nature paladin who cares all about the wee-I mean trees

>Paladin with a god complex, believes he gains his divinity through self worship

So a self-sufficient one?

A Paladin mother adventuring while training her child in the ways of combat/the world. Tries her best to groom her child into one that can survive the brutality of the world and prepare them for a life of purpose. Problem is, Paladins are immune to fear- children aren't. The dynamic involves the mother's struggle to prepare their child for the world and their child's resentment towards their mother for her lack of empathy.
>>
Half-Orc Paladin that worships a god of Lawful Good, and he has to struggle against his natural want to be a Chaotic Evil. He has to fight against himself every time he makes paladin choices.
>>
Kuo-Toa Paladin who follows an imaginary giant crab that he believes to be a god but is in fact a figment of his imagination
>>
An Inquisitor for the Demi-god of Sport and Competiton
He tirelessly works to weed out cheaters and fight rigging.
