Whaddaya think?

>kikestarter

Yeah yeah, I know. But hey, it's only for a few thousand bucks and it aint like you have to buy into it or anything, I just think it's a neat little possibility, to sorta show the aspects of the hobby you don't see much (he interviews sculptors etc) and it could be informative. Mite b cool.

So it's a documentary?
>>
>>43577142
not gonna touch it, because i know they are going to leave out the biggest player in miniature wargaming, which is GW. the reason is most likely because they reached out to GW and they refused to participate, for obvious reasons a big corporation would want to refuse cooperation

so the whole thing will just be a big wankfest over the companies (which half of them are too recent to be part of 'wargaming history') who donated to the project.

TLDR: it will just be a big commercial

Yes
>>
As long as there's lots of porn of miniatures being moulded, sculpted, and painted. If at least one third of the film isn't macro shots, I'm not interested.
>>
>>43577533
It might not be tho, true there's a conspicuous lack of GW in the trailer but the interview with the sculptor looks interesting, the entire thing doesn't have to be about companies that make miniatures. Could involve FLGS managers too, various TOs of major tournaments, conventions etc. Lot of possibility. I would assume they are "traveling all over the world" for a reason.
>>
>>43577574
This is what I'm hoping for too, I wanna see some molds and factories and shit.
>>
>>43577592
in order for there to be a documentary, you need to cover the history of the hobby, and you simply cannot do that without mentioning GW.

love or hate GW, you simply cannot deny their involvement in the hobby's history
>>
>>43577670
1) There's no reason they can't mention GW in passing, and also no reason to go full /v/ and scream that it's shit before you even know what it is.
2) It's a movie about wargaming, not specifically the history of wargaming. They might just gloss over the history a bit and focus on the now, interviewing sculptors, small companies, TOs, etc.

It's not my movie and I'm not obligated to defend it or anything, but it's also retarded to just start shitting on things right out of the gate for reasons that might not even be true.

The perrys are involved.
Also, lack of interviews with gw =/= talking about gw.
>>
>>43577740
>There's no reason they can't mention GW in passing,
And this the problem i will have with it. it will get mentioned in passing. Im not expecting a GWlove film, but i just know it will barely get any coverage, being THE BIGGEST player in the hobby

I know we havent seen it yet, but ive seen too many of these amateur documentaries to know they are all just donor wankfests. commercial pandering to the funders.

Legal issues aside, is Games Workshop even that big of a deal?

I'm not into wargaming but it seems like Warhammer is almost a separate hobby unto itself. I've met lots of people who play 40k and occasionally branched out into Fantasy or Lord of the Rings. Yet when I meet people really into miniatures and modelling, it tends to be historical or for a myriad of settings and systems. Sure they'll buy and build GW products, but they're also making World War II buildings and model railways.

At least, that's how it seems to be in the UK. Look at the convention in the video. Perhaps Warhammer is the most popular system there, but it looks like most of the scenery and models are Earth/historical.

It's a different story now because of so many recent emerges in wargame companies and players finding more alternatives to GW games and more fanbases. But it is still a major player

But in the history GW could be credited for growing the hobby

So if the documentary is about the current status of the hobby, they wouldnt need a big mention, but if its about the history, GW should get a lot of coverage

Fair enough, I hope it doesn't turn out that way. I don't really give a shit if GW gets much screen time though, we all know enough about GW and see it spammed everywhere so if the movie is more about the less explored side of the hobby like Reaper miniatures, warmahordes, infinity, FoW etc. I won't shed a tear. I play GW games myself and focusing the more recent/obscure entries to the industry would be cooler to see.

Ah you think the hobby is your ally? You merely adopted the hobby. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see a model with mold lines until I was already a man, by then they were nothing to me but sprue shavings!

Some things should stay in the dark.

Well I learned something cool from this. HG Wells created a miniatures game with an awesome title:

> Little Wars: a game for boys from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty and for that more intelligent sort of girl who likes boys' games and books.

Neat
>>
>>43577995

At least from what I'm seeing under the companies section they don't have much coverage beyond historicals.

Have you actually read his book? It's hilarious. He writes it almost like it is a pun of itself. The title says it all.

The tone throughout the book is they know they are grown men playing with children's toys, and are not ashamed of it. He also at times talks about people who are not into the hobby as though they are lesser creatures who do not understand the complexity of it.

This guy was the first fa/tg/uy. Parts of his book talk about the joy spent on painting the soldiers and making terrain to make your experience with the game more fulfilling.

They would probably sue the makers of the documentary if they use their products in it. Even if it is a free commercial.

GW doesn't understand the concepts of marketing.
>>
>>43577142
hope they don't make it political
>>
>>43587867
>GW doesn't understand the concepts of marketing.

*GW customers don't understand marketing, or that GW being twats =/= GW runs their business poorly. GW knows exactly what they are doing, at least well enough to still be making massive profits for decades. Repeatedly pissing off your customers who nonetheless come back like abused wives has proven to be an effective strategy.

"GW profits are slightly down."

That is not the sign of a failing business.
