No idea if that's why they did it, but Slaanesh in AoS seems to have been, if not squatted, gotten the Sisters of Battle treatment. S/He's no longer one of the Big Four (Horned Rat has taken that spot), and while Slaanesh's followers are mentioned, I have a strong impression that it's juts so people can keep using their old models. I would not expect any new Slaaneshi models or an updated armybook of any kind for them.

It's been heavily foreshadowed that what happened to Slaanesh will probably be revealed when Elves are expanded upon in AoS. The first AoS book mentioned that Tyrion and Teclis could find no Elves in the Mortal Realms outside of Azyrheim and that later on Tyrion and Malerion began to hear what could only be described as elven souls in torment. They went in search for Slaanesh and some managed to capture him with the help of Tzeentch and Khorne.

New army books are coming out slowly, called battletomes. Look up the aos general first post for more info. Baseline is that world got squatted, sigmar survived, found new realms in space with help of a dragonbro and ruled them wisely for a time. Then a wild chaos appears, and wreck most of the realms except for sigmar's own which he closes off. He then builds armies of golden undying warriors (by using parts of their souls stolen from nagash, this actually weakens him) so that if they die, they respawn in sigmar's realm, Azyr. There's one realm for each wind of magic + the realm of chaos. Sigmar and bros go forth to beat chaos ass.
Realm of life has been partly corrupted by nurgle, ruled by alarielle and her dryad babies. Realm of fire is full-on war with chaos and dispossessed dwarves looking for their gods, along with dwarven mercs called fyreslayers. Tyrion, Teclis and Malekith (now fused with his dragon, called Malerion) best up slaanesh, take back all the elvish souls and kidnap him/her, leading his/her followers on a merry chase through the realm of shadows. Normal humans and elves mostly live in Azyr, but humans are spread throughout all the realms. Orcs live mostly in the realm of Beasts, fighting themselves, ogres and chaos. Gork and mork did the fusion dance, is now a single figure called Gorkamorka, but can split in two at will. Became bros with sigmar after fighting to a standstill for a week. Nagash rules the realm of death, currently reanimating himself because archaon is assaulting Shyish and chopped up his 'mortal' form. Stormcast are here trying to get nagash back on the good team after he betrayed them once already. Also, Mannfred is back.
The lizzies are called Seraphon, they are now memory-constructs of the slann, who fled the dying warhammer world on spaceships. Only the slann are truly alive, living in High Azyr, above sigmar's realm.

I was too, at first, but I'm waiting too. The only real army fluff to come out yet is for the two new poster boys and the lizzies. When they get to the new dwarf faction, orcs and elves is where I hope to see some good stuff. It's replacing a 30-year old setting, so I feel the hurt as well, but what's done is done, and I hope the new setting will do well and get an interesting backstory too. It's still young, and I'll support it yet. If they fuck up the elves or settra I dunno what I'll do.

For me it is. I've not played that many games yet, but I'm part of an escalation league at my gw. Gamewise its quite different, seeing as you activate attacking units on a I-go-you-go basis, and can retreat from combat voluntarily (very good for cav, since all their bonuses are on the charge). Also you can shoot out of and into combat. At first I thought it silly, but it adds to the tension for me, in that you absolutely have to shut it down hard before you get shot to bits unless you have a good amount of shooting yourself (beware dwarven/empire gunlines). I haven't tried special scenarios yet, but they are the real difference. Instead of massacring your opponent, you might have to take and hold a tower for a few turns, or use your general to destroy a ritual item. Those kind of scenarios mean you have to think differently again in what you are facing and what you are bringing. Ex, a slogging dwarf gunline won't easily get their foot general onto a heavily protected terrain piece, while a bunch of fast cav might do it better. And the different realms have different special rules too. The realm of fire, for example, has geysers of molten fire that randomises hits on units too close, all wizards know the fireball spell, and missiles catch fire and do extra dmg if shot from over 12" away.
The realm of life adds dangerous forests which can pop up dryads, or teleport your forces around if you're a sylvaneth (treeman part of wood elf army) player. Teleporting Ancient treemen suddenly behind your lines are a real pain.

The Martial Pride aspect of Khorne is still mentioned in recent fluff, Even in AoS where a Khornate Lord turned his back on Daemonhood in order to face his nemesis because he challenged him to a battle to the death.
Stormcast Eternals mention that unlike the other servants of Chaos, the Khornates have a twisted sense of martial honour that compels them to face their foes head on with no cowardice or underhanded guile.
