NationStates Thread (#3)

Old thread hit bump limit (finally, and thread before that died, so we don't much up the /tg/ board with too much spam)

Praise and Thanks to based mods and janitors, since /His/ does not allow generals, we were wondering if we could stay here rather then /vg/, since nationstates is pretty much a role playing game outside of the daily issue solving.

What is NationStates?
>NationStates is a free nation simulation game. You create your own country, fashioned after your own ideals, and care for its people. Either that or you deliberately torture them. It's really up to you.

Can I be NaziGermany/Equestria/DESIGINATED/kekdom?
>Read the above, but be reasonable.

How do I play?
>Create a nation and follow it from there. You'll be asked to choose a name for your nation, a motto, a national animal, and a currency. Then you answer a short questionnaire about your politics, which will determine whether your nation is authoritarian or libertarian... conservative or liberal... compassionate or psychotic... you get the idea.

Oakwood Grove reporting in
>>
A major contamination of Nava Bhavisya's Citizen Creation Vats has caused millions of your newest citizens to be 'born' with severe mental illnesses. An emergency meeting of your top Ministers has been called to decide what to do about the issue.

The Debate

"It's obvious what must be done," says Prudence Bronte, your Minister for Artificial Citizens, "we must regrow new brains for the lot of them. It'll cost a fortune, but it's our duty as their leaders. It's our fault these citizens are suffering; so naturally, we must do all we can to fix the problem. What other option is there? Think of your citizens."

Accept

"Are you insane?" asks your Public Relations Coordinator "-er ahem, but think of the money! It would cost billions of Prismas to regrow and transplant that many brains. Mark my words, if you give them new brains, you'll have a coup on your hands for sending our economy into a tailspin. No. No. Absolutely not. We must," he leans in with a pained look, "ship these 'defectives' off to a secluded island somewhere, so we can forget they ever existed."

Accept

An old man on the street who has been jabbing at you through the window with his cane chimes in, "The solution is plain as day you doddering fools! These vats must be closed immediately and the technology banned! They're unnatural abominations! You know how I came into this world? Kicking and screaming from the loins of my mother! The government must allow people to have sex again and give birth the way God intended!"

Accept

cont.
>>
>>43563009
"Oh no no no, we've invested too much money into the national vat system to throw it all away over one minor incident," stresses your Financial Minister Billy-Bob Dubois. "Look at the situation from a resource standpoint. This batch of resources is damaged, so naturally, the most economical solution is to remove the damaged products, dispose of them, and recycle the functional parts back into the vats. We must reduce, reuse and recycle, Leader, for the good of our national vats - and for the good of Nava Bhavisya, of course."

What do I do?

I don't want to lose too much economy or civil rights, but I also don't want a bunch of brain damaged clones mucking about my country.
>>
>>43562948
By all means. there are going to be rules on what you can reasonably justify to avoid falling into the trap of muh soldiers are folded 1000 from adamantium. Well nuh uh i just discovered an acid that dissolves adamantium, I did it in secret. Etc etc. of course this all depends on how our poll turns out
>>
>>43563044
The answer to that poll is obviously Vicky II style. Most people are from /his/ and /int/, so they don't prefer these overly technical terms. It does leave a lot of questions though.
>>
>>43563089
Actually, as it stands about a fourth of our total users are from /tg/ now, and if this General continues being allowed, that number will increase. This is our first test run for rp.
>>
>>43563044
It's a hold over from my previous region, Stormtrooper Strafbataillon, which translates to Storm Trooper Penal Battalion. They would serve as a stop gap between regular troops and special forces. They are also lead into battle by the current heir to the throne if he is of age.
>>
>>43563204
Historically, it's not like its anything new for penal battalions in socialists/fascist states. Although you should give them heavy penalties for morale, discipline, training etc.
>>43563030
Ignore everything;acquire monies
>>
>>43563261
Actually I was thinking of them being almost brainwashed killers for the most part, devout to the imperial throne for giving them a second chance.Due to the fact that they are mostly ex-military facing either the life in prison or the death penalty for the actions they have done in times of war.
>>
>>43563303
That's fine, we haven't set up rules on what's reasonably justification yet, just got past the setting stage. Although enemy at the gates memes aside, they were correct in that when your own countries guns are pointing at your backs, morale kinda plummets. That plus see that one ss penal batallion group, which was completely combat ineffective(they lost somethjng like 300% of their strength in Warsaw, Kek. and committed the most atrocities wherever they went.
>>
>>43563089
>So instead of trusting /his/torians to make reasonable shit up.
>We'll inflict upon them overly technical Vicky 2 terms.

Nava Bhavisya has four biomes. Super-dense skycraper city/vertical farms, fusion power plants, beaches, and primordial old growth forest.

I've put a lot of money into maintaining my environment at it's peak natural beauty, but I haven't yet gotten the issue that lets you put money into rescue services. So I'm kinda trying to ignore that twenty percent for now.

Yes, but the way most people seem to want, we might not even use a lot of the stats on NS, because someone who's played a while has an immediate advantage. Look at Shanix, he has over 10 BILLION people in his nation, all shoved into iceland.
>>
>>43572988
So it's like a mega arcology. Seems cool to me. We don't have to stick to the actual numbers (someone suggested lopping of a zero, which would help) but the general thrust of the nation should line up, and it's a good thing to default to when you don't really care. Exports aren't a big deal to me compared to religion and culture, since I'm from /tg/ rather than /biz/, and "consumer luxuries and also guns" seem to fit just fine.

My nations military will be modeled after the french in WW2, highly incompetent leadership at the Corps and Army level up, with the individual proficiency of the troops being average.
>>
Why the fuck is shit "inappropriate language"?
>>43573909
I think we should rely on a combination of lore and stats. That is, the stats dictate the general thrust of the lore (to reflect your decisions), but you can work the details. So if you have a really big defence force stat, you can decide whether or not that's represented by Carolingian style well-trained soldiers or vast French style conscripts.
>>
>>43573940
Mine'll be based around quick mechanised hit-and-run tactics supported by a core of infantry and heavy tanks.

That's the best approximation of condottieri I can think of.

How is the population squish working? I need to know, otherwise my mediumish African nation has 6.5 billion people.
>>
>>43573959
Yeah, the only way to balance with that population without squishing numbers would basically be to give them spears instead of guns.
>>
>>43573959
Considering pop just increases no matter what you do until you reach population singularity, I think that stat should be dropped and replaced with something less insane.

So you'd still have a very large population, just...not Earth-sized large. Think Nigeria.

In combination with stats. Which is why I said "still very large" -- he's got a very large population despite being a mediumish African nation, just not post-scarcity levels of population.

Idea is currently, Buff all small nations <100 mil
Nerf all big nations. Stats will just be used at the start of role play as the basis, anything after that will be up to you if you can justify that, (tech advancement etc) Any changes in stats after start of rp will be ignored, unless it is major.
>>
>>43574007

>The Armed Republic of Sangenmeist is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by 'Uncle' with an iron fist, and renowned for its compulsory military service, complete lack of prisons, and rampant corporate plagiarism. The hard-nosed, cynical population of 6.147 billion Sangenmisiens are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

>The large, corrupt, well-organized government prioritizes Defense, with Law & Order, Education, and Healthcare also on the agenda, while Spirituality receives no funds. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Meist-Sangenner. The average income tax rate is 94.8%.

>The frighteningly efficient Sangeni economy, worth a remarkable 1,032 trillion harritols a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Tourism, Book Publishing, and Information Technology. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is an impressive 168,024 harritols, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

>The government is flooded with compensation requests, toddlers are wielding machine guns in the name of national defense, suppression of pro-democracy protests is a daily occurrence, and an increasing percentage of the population's youth have homosexual parents. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Sangenmeist's national animal is the San Kasai, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is Kalmanism.
