How would /tg/ build a Darkest Dungeon PnP?
>>
>>43554018

D&D B/X or Chaosiums BRP (same system as RuneQuest 6 and MagicWorld) layered with rules for psycological disorders and morale. Setting the dark Fantasy tone is more up to the material.
>>
>>43554018
It's just a highly lethal dungeon crawl.

Any Dungeon Crawl style system would work.
>>
>>43554018
Warhammer Fantasy 2E
Any Retroclone

How would you handle the stress mechanic? Rolling on a table of random neuroses whenever stress gets too high is pretty straightforward. But then would you require players to act out that penalty or just have a stat penalty? There's a lot of hilarious disorders to pick from.
>>
Just alter a savage world's module or two.
I mean all the rules for grave injuries and mental stress are there anyway so may as well use them.

I second this. Not just because I am a WHFRP fanboy either. I have heard mumblings that DD was written with a major influence by it in the first place.

>>43556118
WHFRP already has a wide list of addictions, psychological afflictions etc, and a scaling stress/sanity meter is covered in the Tomb of corruption. The stats rolled against depend on the stress involved; Willpower, and strength/intelligence/toughness etc.

I totally forgot about that! I WILL say that Cthulhu is much less "brutal combat against abominations" and more "You can try. I don't suggest it".

Amazingly, in this comparison, Warhammer is the one that actually gives the players hope.

Could work either by making the characters stronger or monsters weaker in combat because 3d6 is a bit much against a health pool averaging at 12 or so.

Everybody mentioning WHFRP and CoC Dark Ages has the right idea.

Do you think we'll ever get more information on Darkest Dungeon's setting? The little blurbs you get here and there throughout the game makes it seem like there's some interesting stuff going on outside The Estate.

Would you play it? Should I dude WHFBRPG rules for it?
>>

WHFRP 2e can literally be played with virtually zero changes safe to remove demihumans if you don't want them.

It has addictions, diseases, odd careers, insanity, and very lethal combat. If you were really anal-retentive, creating careers to represent the DD classes would probably be the work of a couple of hours at most.

>>
>>43565632
>i'm willing to bet you she looks as bad as the leper under that mask
The entire point of the mask is to protect her from disease. She probably just looks unusually pale with some acne if she isn't washing her face between expeditions.

Besides, it doesn't matter. As you can see from >>43565478's pic, the two are in bittersweet love, with the leper refusing to commit because he doesn't want to die and break her heart with her not caring and wanting him to enjoy the life he has left, and there's nothing anyone can say to stop that for me.

The general plot of Mordheim involves people being there to acquire warp stone, kill people looking for warp stone, or similar.

Skaven and servants of Chaos are both partial to making a bid for warpstone.

Anyone else here have any good stories.

I play 1 vestal and 3 men-at-arms, as a joke-team when I'm bored. Then I spam the Men-at-arms move that counter-attacks every time you're hit by the enemy (Riposte or something)

Every time an enemy uses an AoE attack, they get hit by 2 or 3 full strength attacks. I've killed alot of blunderbuss thugs, and those pig drummers on their own turn like this. I remember one boss taking 3 attacks, 2 of which were critical, doing a total of like 40 damage in its own turn.

"Beastmen" is just a term for any chaos mutant that is part animal, part man. Hoved animals of any sort are most common, but birds, fish, squid, ANYTHING can be mutated into a beast man. Chaos is equal opportunity like that, and whatever enviroment they can exist in, they do. Pic related.

Hell, Skaven are just a very specific, highly stabilized form of beastman, like centaurs. There are even reptilian beastmen in canon, but the lizardmen of Lustria hunt them down with extreme prejudice.
>>
>>43569656
Fishmen were a planned expansion but never happened. Some sort of deep one style civ, if the early hints are any indication. Technically extant chaos beastmen could show fish traits.

How the fuck is there only one mention of Torchbearer in this thread?

Torchbearer is LITERALLY Darkest Dungeon: The Tabletop game.
"you must delve into forlorn ruins, brave terrible monsters and retrieve forgotten treasures. However, make no mistake, this game is not about being a hero or about fighting for what you believe. This game is about exploration and survival. You may become a hero. You might have to fight for your ideals. But to do either of those things, you must prove yourself in the wilds. Because there are no jobs, no inheritance, no other opportunities for your deadbeat adventurers. This life is your only hope to prosper in this world. "

You even make Stress checks, have Light mechanics, and have turn-based combat.

It's not that the town has no jobs, it's that it doesn't have any that the adventurer can get in on.
Because the adventurer has a shit reputation, or the town is at capacity and the blacksmith isn't taking on new apprentices, and the innkeeper is already drowning in tavern wenches to need a new one and he can't afford to pay you anyway.

Torchbearer is basically streamlined Burning Wheel with an old school theme. It actually works quite well, particularly for a Dark Dungeons survival style game.
