Found your problem.
That being said, Animar is frustrating as hell for someone whom was primarily B/W forn the longest time. He really doesn't need the protection that he has. However, both Black and White are the colors of wraths, so it's not that big of a deal. I use pic related to piss on Animar in all my white decks, which also conveniently pisses on Wanderer and Narset well. Depending on the board state, you can kill his combo bounce, particularly Ancient Statue, and force them to bounce Animar.
Ancient Statue is a problem though because it really gives Animar early game threat and the potential to combo as early as T3.

It's neither and both at the same time, your deck should revolve around swinging with narset so some haste and evasion enabling is nice (like a voltron deck) but control effects like removal also help to keep narset swinging consistently
And then the rest of your deck is extra combat steps and extra turns, which chain into each other. Narset is a combo deck really, the voltron and control parts are just because that's how this particular combo works, it wants to protect a big swinger

Looking for a high-pressure deck around this dude. He'll be my sixth EDH deck, and I chose him in part because of his colors and the artifact/equipment support they offer. Not going to go insanely competitive with this one, however.
How'd you build this guy? Might go typical equipment-based voltron/value town, but Sheldon's "you did this to yourself" build seems fuck as hell, too.

the problem with auras is that they die permanently. and you're in green, you don't even have support cards for auras like replenish, retether, open the vaults, and so on. you dont have the tutors for them like three dreams, plea for guidance, idyllic tutor, and so on. and like i said, auras are generally a bit softer than equipment, since equipment are persistent. and the support for equipments is also annoyingly only in white, with tutors like stoneforge mystic, stonehewer giant, steelshaper's gift, steelshaper apprentice, taj-nar swordsmith, and support like puresteel paladin, nahiri, yada yada so on so forth.

You have all your regrowth effects though. It's not to play but most auras are relatively cheap.
Throw it on something like Thrun and he's hard to beat. Protects himself in multiple ways and he's rather cost effective.

there are a few regrow effects but none of them are particularly card advantageous or mana advantageous the way retether, or replenish, or open the vaults, or nahiri are since they immediately dump everything (or one thing with nahiri) back on your commander without you having to cast it again
like i'm just saying, there are spells that exist in magic the gathering that are synergistic enough with aura / equipment voltron
and even in that more powerful version of a voltron deck i don't feel that voltron is very strong to begin with, so it's pretty laughable to me to say that without them the deck is strong
thrun in particular is hexproof and can regenerate through the occasional wrath that doesn't have "cannot regenerate" on it but just compare him to the typical cancer voltron commander uril. uril is much huger and lets you run like 10 cards, that's 10% of your deck, that are just A+ top tier that would be C+ at best slots in monogreen

Hey, what generals lead to solid toolbox deck. Not combo decks, but ones that have many answers and tools and ways to dig around to find them. Kind of like old Pod decks in Modern, but in commander.
I love value town toolboxes and the creativity and insight needed to make them work and would love to make a commander deck that resolves around a strategy like that.

and probably a few others I'm forgetting, it's very rare I don't have an answer. I fucking love it too. It's such a cool, powerful ability, and designing the deck around it with those cards has proven incredibly fun. There is no more exhilarating feeling in MTG than when you're first revealing the six cards off the top for Demonic Consultation, to see if what you named is in there. Or going balls to the wall with Spoils of the Vault. It's a very fun deck, very skill testing, and hasn't burned me on any of those cards yet.

Some do, infrequently, but most just play Creatures: The Tappening. I'm usually the guy that runs removal, everyone else is pretty low-power. I was a little worried that the Drana 2.0 player would hit me with a Murder or something, but I lucked out.

This is the result of a lot of testing and rebuilding over years.
Currently testing Damnable Pact as both a finisher and draw spell. If I had to cut a few things, I'd probably cut some of the more casual creatures, such as burnished hart.

Man I smashed an Animar deck today four times, with a Zurgo equipment/boardwipe deck. Being able to star swinging with zurgo turn 3, 4,or 5 and then either give him unblockable/land walk, or continuously blow up the board with wrath was too quick.

A guy at our table runs him as Voltron.
Plenty of protection spells and auras, some white soldier love, a few ETB creatures for toolbox but mostly he just pumps up and swings at you, if you block he just sends your creature away and tramples through full damage, you need to block with everything against this bitch. If you multi block with enough power to threaten him, he has white and blue for exile and bounce THEN flicks the other dude away or gets untapped with Minamo. Suffers a bit to removal naturally since he is kinda costly with no haste. The guy loves Hidden strings, perfect for opening up targets or giving extra untaps.
On the topic of Cipher, a guy at our table runs Thada Adel as a quirky artifact/steal deck, doesn't win often but always seems to have fun, I never thought I'd see the day when Trait Doctoring would be played but this is cute spooky. Guy wants to poke the red player so casts it, switching to mountainwalk. After he hits and yoinks the artifact he wants he can just switch to plainswalk or anything he wants depending on who he wants next.

I play a Zurgo deck, mostly just artifact beats since nukes and removal just seems evil.
I got killed turn 3 by Zurgo Bellsmasher. Turn 2 swinging with Madcap skills is fucking brutal, turn 3 he finished with Titan strength and Temur Battlerage. Game ended turn 6 when he got three combat phases thanks to Seize the Day and brutalized the last player who enough toughness that could block, but not three times.
Baby Zurgo is Spoopy, he rarely wins the table but almost always removes a player by turn 4-5.

Best part of baby Zurgo is that you can build him dirt cheap with janky red commons like the aforementioned, you can add big bad stuff like swords/boots and trailblazer's boots but he can usually burst someone down with some random draft chaff.
