Would reverse powered down graft be alright or should I go with another mechanic for -1/-1 counters?

Garbage.
>>
>>43542415
The mechanic could work fine with creatures which have distinguishing features that make you want to shift p/t onto different creatures (lifelink, first strike, trample, etc).
A bit bland though IMO.

A mechanic I've considered is inverse bestow, where you put a -1/-1 counter on a creature with the most toughness. Though it's a stretch to put it on colors other than black or red.

Too easily broken?

>>43542415

It would need a lot of support to be anything interesting, possibly more than is worth it. It's technically a fine mechanic though in that there's nothing inherently wrong with it.

>>43543087

This is currently as expensive as clone except with several downsides and the slight upside of versatility. In an extremely counter rich environment it might pay off but I think you could probably get away with making this 1U for a 0/1 without breaking anything. You should probably test multiple versions.

>>43543230

Yes, but you're going to end up with more 5-color decks than 4-color unless you force it very hard. One way around that is going with the common "RGUB is anti-W" approach and then actually working that into the mechanics. It could even be as heavy handed a keyword that sacrifices the permanent if you control something of the excluded color, it isn't a perfect fix but it would push players in the desired direction.

At the end of the day though you've got to ask why you're doing a thing. Do you have a clear idea of how you're going to turn that into fun gameplay or is it just "this hasn't been done, maybe I'll do it to be different"? Sometimes the two go together and novelty itself can be fun but it's worth thinking about, especially since you have to put in like twice as much work to make the set identity clear in any way.
>>
>>43544383
Make it return a creature card, so it's not a bolt recursion engine
>>
>>43544383

Um, like any cheap burn spell. What the fuck was I thinking? Back to the drawing board...
>>
>>43544419

That's the safest approach. I had enough space to try this, fair compromise?

"Sacrifice X lands: Exile target card with converted mana cost X from your graveyard. Put that card into your hand at the beginning of the next end step."
>>
>>43544477
It's slower but you shouldn't have a recursion engine that enables itself and can also ramp in a pinch

>>43543121
I don't like this design because it leaves an enchantment doing nothing sitting on the battlefield. It's ugly and any cute interactions are either too strong (blink) or really not worth the clunkiness (things that count enchantments). I'd find a way to not leave the worthless husk around.

Just asking for trouble today apparently.

>>43544528

Maybe you're right, I'll keep thinking about it.

>>43545462

-1/-1 counters are weird because they occupy space that is definitively black, while any color can make their dudes stronger only black is supposed to make enemy dudes weaker or sacrifice their own dudes for power. However, since mixing counter types in a set is apparently the worst possible sin imaginable (How could anyone tell them apart? Two different colors of tiny objects? Who has ever been in a room with two different colors of tiny objects before?) they've forced the creation of "-1/-1 counter sets" where everybody gets to dip into the well a bit, even though it doesn't make any sense in terms of the pie.

So they're black but 5-color when environmental needs trump the pie. Even then black should really get the most mileage out of them by far.

>>43546627

At three it's 3 to one dude, at four it's 6 to one or 3 to two, 5 is 9 to 1, 6 to 2 or 3 to 3... the cheapest mode is pretty bad but everything else looks good, this is fine. It doesn't get into one-sided wipe territory until 6-7+ mana so no problems there.

Why is this blue at all though? That's a huge pie break and also unnecessary, you can have izzet flavor without both colors being present.

>>43546951

This is pretty cool. I think it's probably balanced but it's hard to say for sure, if you can just keep stealing everything then there's nothing to punish you for being at low life and it wouldn't take many turns to finish the game if you own all of their blockers now. But it does nothing on its own, fails to enchantment removal and is quite slow so doesn't look too bad.
>>
>>43547509
>Spellfling

That is way too stupid. Topdeck manipulation is pretty common and easy, so the "gambling" part of it doesn't balance it at all.
>>
>>43547773
I think it would be funny if it let you look any the top eight cards of your library then put them back in a random order, THEN exile the top one and do what the rest of the card says.

The +1 is really strong, but its hard to judge power levels on sparkers.

Switch out undying for persist on the -2. You don't really want to mix counters

That -3 is horrifying for the price. It should be a -6 or something.

Fine, I'll be serious since you might actually think that's why I don't like it.

Planeswalker plus abilities need to be optional in some way. It should be "up to one target creature." Also, the plus is retardedly overpowered. It's a plus TWO that is constant, repeatable removal. Four damage on a +2 ability on a walker, even with that "restriction" is broken to all hell and I can't believe that's not obvious to you.

The minus is garbage. It can't even realistically interact with the ultimate, because if you are using a minus ability you're not going to actually get to the ultimate. If it were a plus ability it'd still be terrible, but at least there'd be some kind of plan there.

Ultimate is whatever. Boring. Also, you forgot a starting loyalty.

Step up your game.

I cleaned it up for you and added some art. I like the concept but you have some wording issues. Ignore the other anons, they are being Salty Sallys. I'm pretty sure it's the same guy too. There is always this one really toxic person who thinks they are providing something to the thread by being a total asshole.

>>43549427
>Simic Prod.
-1 should be, "You may sacrifice a creature. ..." for clarity.
-6 is nice and fits well. It fits the colors very well. Good job.

>Sel. Cap.
This is a personal gripe and not an actual issue, but I always like having tokens be the same colors of the source, also it having lifelink makes it GW over all.
Fits the colors pretty well. Both minus abilities are pretty balanced. Nice.

>S. o. Life
+2 is too strong. Either make it a -1 ability or drop a few keywords. Yes it's a 3 color, 5 mana walker but that's a lot of value in those colors that will make most games an easy win if they aren't being stomped.
The 0 ability should be -1. That is a pretty good search tool, if not kind of limited. It finds almost anything you'd want in those colors.
Ult is fine, kind of extreme and a bit lacking on the G but that's okay, everything else fills that need.

>Zaratha, Bitch of Fuck-this-plane
She is just way too strong over all and needs a good redesign to balance out. The major issue is she does a lot for a really easy mana cost, and has a lot of loyalty for her mana cost. Most 4-5 mana walkers have 3-4 loyalty and usually cost a color or two.
I would consider making a walker who on entry your opponent gains control of and does negative stuff, and must use an ability per turn. A kind of double agent style walker to fit into Phyrexia's theme.

These are all really cool over all and mostly balanced.

>>43550033

I have been making a lot of top-down Batman-themed mtg cards (please don't crucify me for that alone) and I would like to know what you think.

Robin
Instead of making 10 different Robins, I took a look at the costume.
Robins are dispensable - one dies/leaves/changes name, and another, less
Experienced one takes his place. I based him on Doomed Traveller.
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=382252

Batman
I may have pushed him a bit too much. I think flash/first strike does a good job representing
his stealth skills (being able to ambush thugs) and protection represents his ability to save
villain's victims.

James Gordon
Comes in with two other officers (two because there are only 2 really notable GCPD
cops - Montoya and Bullock). I based him on Captain of the Watch.
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=394354

Rally the force
Thematically, when this card is played, police comes to clean up after Batman or to
take care of goons, while Batman goes after big bad. Officer tokens are more powerful
than Henchman tokens cause good guys usually get the upper hand.

The Joker
His biggest weapon is instilling fear into others. He doesn't even have basic martial arts
training. Also, he always finds a way to get out or Arkham/death (they all do, of course).

The Scarecrow
Another guy who is a simple person and uses hallucination inducing fear chemicals to gain
an advantage, but if the person has the mental strength to convince himself that it all is an
illusion, Scarecrow loses his strength (token). I based him on Geist of Saint Traft.
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=247236

Rally the goons
Added self-mill because unlike officer (who are already working as cops), you need try
harder to get someone independent to work for you. Based on Secure the Wastes.
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=394683
>>
>>43551592

Professor Pyg
Pyg brainwashes and surgically alters his victims, thus making them his brainless servants.

Arkham Asylum
In the books Arkham Asylum is the "graveyard" for beaten
villains, however it is a revolving door for enemies, where villains
get released or escape often. I based it on Academy Ruins.
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=370424

Bane
Bane's most widely known shtick is using the super steroid "venom" and the closest thing I
thought of was fire breathing. Still he himself is highly trained and super strong. I based him of Dragon Whelp.
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=247314

Venom Growth
Can only be used 3 times because a new person using it doesn't have the same tolerance
as Bane does. I based it on Firebreathing and Steel Hellkite.
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=226588

The Riddler
This is more of a joke card and I may have fucked up the wording hard, but I think it is funny and interesting.

Lazarus Resurrection
Lazarus pits are magical pools that revive the dead or extend the life of the living.
The downside - resurrection is followed by temporary madness. Once used, a pool becomes unusable.

Clayface
First I thought of morphling, but this seemed to be more streamlined. Clayface can
expand and shrink, but he has to keep his initial mass. Partially based on Windreaver.
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=270835

Victor Fries
Durable armor that grants him super strength/durability and the ability to freeze anything.
I based him on Rimescale Dragon.

>>
>>43551620

The Mad Hatter
The Mad Hatter's gimmick is putting hats on people, making them his slaves. Fairly straight-forward. I based him on Memnarch.
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=220532

Oswald Cobblepot
I chose the gangster version of Penguin for this, as he physically isn't threatening at all, but rather relies on his influence and bought man-power. I imagine his second ability, as him
flying away with a helicopter umbrella.

Black Mask
Black mask is a gangster, who loves to lock up his enemies and torture them.
I based him on One Thousand Lashes and Vedalken Shackles
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=366261

Rupert Thorne
Rupert Thorn is a gangster, capable of bribing every official in Gotham, so I made him to be able to get everyone to look the other way. Based him on Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer.
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=185811

Scarface
Without his puppet Arnold Wesker is a mild mannered person, who wouldn't hurt a fly, so I made the puppet be the real creature. I based him on Flayer Husk.
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=397826

Harvey Dent/Two-Face
The big idea of this card is to show off the duality of the character (no shit, right?).
Harvey boosts heroes on both sides and while Two-face boosts all villains to show
how uncontrollable his personality is.

Thanks? It's designed to be used with topdeck manipulation though, not gambling. I've changed it to cycle your top two cards to the bottom of your library first to force you to manipulate harder first, although it might be enough to just require a scry 2.

>>43549089

Seems pretty terrible. By your seventh land you shouldn't need color fixing and this is completely useless until then. It also makes your mana extremely inflexible which is a massive downside. You could probably tone down the idea and salvage something cool but I don't think anyone would actually want to use this.

>>43549102

If you change both instances of nonsnow to snow this would be fine. It's overpowered and kind of nonsensical as-is, why would they turn things to snow and then flame slash things that aren't snow?

>>43551016

I'm taking another stab at modular closed environments. The first set in the project is based on some poorly developed continents loosely ruled by six different wizard organizations at a time when the different factions are trying to gain political clout and unify the plane under their banner. It uses domain and conspire as mechanics which I think is neat but other than that I'm probably doing a really bad job selling the flavor as usual.

I'm not too sure what that means as google only pulled up stuff related to 3D modeling. The set has a cool sounding theme. It feels like Ravnika in it's early years and that would be an interesting setting. You could have a cycle of uncommon lands that are each groups HQ under construction in the first set, them completed in the second, and if a third set happens, in ruins.
Domain sounds like a really cool ability for the GR or G(whatever) faction. You could have some fixing cards that give lands multiple types to help with the Domain buffing. Things like Urborg and Blood Moon.
Conspiracy sounds fitting for a WG mechanically and a UB flavor wise. It would be cool to try and make a UB weenies faction with conspiracy, as I could totally see it being full of these scheming mages trying to become powerful through using each other.
I would recommend adding Affinity and Convoke to the ability pool. Both would fit the setting of blossoming empires trying to gain leeway.
What are the colors of the factions/groups currently?

I could have it be in the cycle, each coronet has 2 over lapping keywords, and one unique keyword.
W gets vigilance, R gets haste, B gets deathtouch, U gets flying, G gets hexproof.
>>
>>43553673
Oh, you're making a cycle...? I don't think that's a good idea.

First of all, in green and blue it would be kinda nuts because those colors naturally get hexproof, so the auras would be stronger, and secondly that's kinda stretching how many colors should care that much about auras.

I thought this was more like a planar chaos type of thing.

Nah I don't have the art for it. I only put Freedombound together on a whim. It was all just a hypothetical. I would make U Flash on the enchantment, flying, and scry 1 on combat damage to face. G would be +3/+3, reach, deathtouch, hexproof.
B would be +3/+3, lifelink, death touch, regenrate for B.

What I would really like to do is something along these lines, where you pay X red mana and Y blue mana. In this way, you could use it in a monoblue deck, but it would deal no damage. You couldn't use it in monored either because no targets and no scrys. The issue is easily conveying the cost without getting too wordy. Is there a precedent for the X/R and X/U notation?

If not, I'll just give up on the design.

Ehhh, I'd rather not change it to that though because then you can block with the beast, and you don't have to attack with the 1/1 to make the beast. You could just keep attacking with the 3/3 and leave the 1/1 at home.

The idea is that it swings for 4 with no blockers, and with blockers the beast's ability gives the 1/1 "evasion" while probably trading with a blocker.
>>
>>43555462
Nah, just being referential. It works in a similar way so I just used a canon card as a stepping off point for my blurb. It's not anywhere near as good. No flying, hexproof is not static, body is worse. Only thing it has going for it is the tribe. It's basically "whenever this elf booty come swag on yo ass, one o yo chumps gets gacked fo 3" She is still probably going to die. Easily. Still good in draft though.

>my project

Well, what I did is make a blank set file of 475 cards each with a small description like "green enchantment removal," "white wrath" or "RW 2-drop." So I'm just copying that file whenever I want to add a set to the project and start filling in cards, the end result being that every color and multicolor combination will end up having at least one card that does any given thing that it would normally be able to do. Then the idea to actually play with these is to pick any two sets (along with a smaller addition that I haven't fully worked out yet) to produce a new closed pool of about 1,000 cards to construct decks with. I've taken a few stabs at similar systems in the past but I think this one has the most promise as something that can actually produce compelling gameplay with a huge amount of replayability. 1,000 cards doesn't sound like a lot but when you remove all of the strictly worse garbage that gets thrown into official products it's actually pretty similar in scale to what real formats offer and the modular nature means you can end up with a huge number of environments just by completing a few of these sets.

>card

Any one of those options would be powerful as a recurring effect at that price, even with the life loss. Should either cost much more or get toned down significantly.

>>43553568

Neat design. The haste isn't likely to ever do anything and it's going to be very difficult to consistently find a target for it but the payoff looks fair.

>>43555317

Cost it XYR or even XYRR and then just have "Scry X, where X is the amount of blue mana spent to cast ~" for the second effect. Very clean solution.

>>43555372

Looks fair, they just need two blockers to kill it past your lure effect but it can do some serious work if it comes down against a weak board.

>>43555728

>>43558915

1/1 haste with a small upside is standard for red. That's a small upside, so it's fine.

>>43558958

Nifty, looks like a reasonable reward for a bit of set up. Big delve turns are usually pretty high tempo anyway though so maybe there could be issues there depending on environment, it would have to be a fairly low power format for it to really wreck things though I think.

Possibly. I was comparing it more to Boros Charm since neither can hit creatures and both take two colors. For 2 more mana and sorcery speed (and no alternate modes) you get +1 damage and five life, that seemed fair on paper especially since lifegain normally sucks but maybe such a bit swing is a bit much. What about drain 4 at instant?

That's a really cool reanimation spell. I particularly like the mindgames it creates in any meta where it sees play, forces the opponent to think about whether to hold back out of fear or gambler that you don't have it and push for damage. It's a good example of an instant with actual interplay rather than just "no, I get to do this first." The color and type changes are nice flavor but kind of memory-issue-y, not a major deal though since you can usually remember which massive thing was reanimated that game.

The type and color change are there for flavor flav. It's for a WB demon/cleric faction. To keep it simple, the Church tried to destroy the underworld and instead turned int into a kind of purgatory and sent the cycle of life and death out of wack. They found ways to abuse the cycle due to it missing pieces and general. This is an example of one of it's abuse.

That's what wraths are for. Let the humans try to hide, nuke them from orbit. Seriously though I'll try to break her once enough of the set is done to do some playtesting, there are several ways to bypass hexproof already in the set and she seems slow enough to me that it shouldn't require too much tweaking.

None of the creatures look balanced and only the white, black and green lands looks salvageable (white is weak, other two are on the very of being too good but could easily be toned down enough to be fair). No idea what compelled you to make the blue and red lands.

>>43560602

I'm not much of a draft player (prefer sealed if any limited) but I'd like to see more stuff along the lines of conspiracy that incorporates the draft into the actual game, there's a lot of space there that WotC really can't afford to explore too heavily.

>Using apostrophes as a crutch for cool sounding fictional names
Please don't. Errai Kaf and Oiqqa-Ra are just as nice without trying too hard. Titles after a name are fairly standard as well, but you don't have to. In fact, it would be best to cut some of the names down to just one of their halves (like Ikk'Releigh to just Releigh.)

As a proof of concept, I'm unsure if what I'm critiquing isn't already going to be changed. I won't even touch on their bustedness.
I like your bushido-esqe keyword. Your cards remind me of kamigawa in a way, so that's nice.
The lands should be named as long as they're legendary.
Shroud and intimidate have been phased out, their successors being hexproof and menace.
Why are the creatures artifacts? Flavor?

Battle for Zendikar is underpowered trash, without going to gamebreaking Alpha I want to make an overpowered set. I can name the lands, sounds good. And I can update the keywords. And the creatures are artifacts for flavors sake, nothing else.

This is kind of the reaction I was looking for, I want people to shit their pants by how stupifyingly powerful they are.

These are the inspiration, somewhat but not really. I want more of an Alara, Phyrexia feel, hence the Artifact Creatures. The plane will be ancient and overpowered. I want the planeswalkers to get there and be like "Shit, lets gtfo, we're weak as fuck compared to these guys."

>without going to gamebreaking Alpha I want to make an overpowered set (...) And the creatures are artifacts for flavors sake, nothing else.
I think you meant "stylistic choice", right? Either way, it sounds like you want a high power cube. They are stupidly fun, so more power to you. Unfortunately, it's hard to judge the finer points of the card's power if we don't have that context each time you post in the future. If you get them all around the preferred level that you're looking for, I'd love to see them again.

Ok, that's fair. It's impossible to give feedback though without seeing anything else that would be played with them. Well, other than that the white land is easily the worst card and the blue land is almost certainly the best card by a long shot. The red is a close second since it's an obscene clock but whoever plays blue will just draw into an answer and then proceed to win the game. You presumably will still want your cards to be balanced relative to one another.

>>43565016

A bit dull since it's almost always active, if this were evergreen it would just lead to overcosting a huge pile of cards under the assumption that they would only be cast for the flux cost and it'll basically just be a bookkeeping thing rather than a real upside.

Something for a basics-matter set. Does this break 12-post, and does it need to only check for basic land types? Also I kind of spitballed the cost - Seer's Sundial is the closest in functionality, but that's colorless and draws a card for any landfall.

Not a fan of this design. Renown is already its own reward. You don't need things that are just better for renown. Why not have the boost be a flat +2/+0, and it gives first strike to renowned things and trample to things which aren't? That way you can use it in a renown deck and enable renown with the trample on things that don't have it yet.

You do realize the argument, "It loses to board wipes so that's okay" is really bad and just shows how strong it is, right?
"Oh yeah, this card is totally balanced. All it does is make all my humans extremely hard to remove and basically requires a WoG to deal with. It's really fair, especially at 4 mana."
This isn't the matter of bypassing it in the set, this is an issue of over all being too strong. This needs to be 5 mana or a 2/2.

>>43567246

What is red about this? Just want the color identity for EDH?

It is a pretty weird card. I like the steady growth, that's pretty nifty. Transforming it is a bit of a chore, which is good. The planeswalker side is kind of lame though. You just sacrifice a thing and then if they don't have an answer you vomit your graveyard onto the table and swing next turn. You might use the -X once if you just need a bunch of crap in your graveyard for the ult but other than that it seems very boring for a 4-color sparker.

Also the +1 should probably just be a +X for simplicity.

>>43567400

Aesthetically beautiful but most of the time this is just going to be a colorless "target opponent sacrifices a creature" which probably shouldn't be colorless, at least not for such a low price. You don't even have to bother timing it well if you're playing artifacts.
>>
>>43567246

I was just giving context to the card, every color other than green has access to wrath-like effects of a higher power level than would be in a typical standard including the one I just posted that can be a 3 mana instant. In addition there are several "choose creature" single target answers that bypass hexproof altogether. It's a constructed environment, I feel like it's a safe assumption that if you get completely blown out by something because you didn't bother to bring tools that were readily available to you then you kind of deserved that. In the hypothetical UW-Humans-dominated meta players that don't make any effort to counter that deck are taking known risks.

It's also a 0 power 4-drop. It fixes your hand over time but doesn't actually net any card advantage. This is a low pressure defensive card, she can protect your actual threats but you need to have actual threats first (and having a bunch of dudes out is the reason for the wrath, not the one card). On her own she doesn't really do very much. So yes I'll obviously test the card but I'm not convinced it's as extreme as suggested. This isn't draft or anything where you can die to a sneeze if it's a little too forceful.

5 mana for a shock and a bear is actually not bad, given pricing on similar cards in Gatherer.

I don't think that's necessary; white hates on abilities just fine, as do green and blue. But put it where it fits thematically and mechanically, I suppose.

>>43568910
Christ, you're Apexanon too? I had no idea. You get around, Timeanon.
>set
Eh, it goes. I shelved the Civil War set for now because going from a set with low magic (savage) to a set with low magic (civil war and technology/creature-centric) was wearisome. I needed something to cut loose in, and I can do that with RAVWARTS: TALE OF AMORALIA. Motivation to make cards is irregular, but I have all my mechanics pretty much in place now so it's just the process of creation at this point.

Speaking of mechanics, I need to get the final polish on Recall. The discard is a great balance to the effect, but now I am left to figure out if it needs a cost restriction on it as to what you can grab or if the card pitch is enough, and it doesn't need to be restricted. I am more in the mindset that the former is true, so this is how it currently stands worded.

Very busy feels kind of silly, but it works. I would drop the sac ability.

Other anon pointed out the problem, needs a place to return. Also art and such. Cool concept none the less.

>>43569023
"Counter target counterspell, and return a counterspell from your graveyard to your hand."
Joking aside, cool card, recall feels like of gross to me because there is already a whole lot of graveyard interaction already and this just feels like more fuel for dredge.

>on the dorf
I'll be up front, the red is mainly for flavor, since Dwarves are RW in my set. But I think it fits RW pretty well, since it's about attacking, first strike, and haste, but only when the white part of it allows it to. Also, overpowered or nah?
>>
>>43568803

Every single thing it does interacts though. The design started as just the middle ability, but that would be really worthless on its own card, so I made it be on an expensive oblivion ring. Sac'ing it to draw a card can immediately get you a card you scry'd back on top of the library at the cost of breaking the o-ring.

I know it just looks like a jumble but I like how the different parts of the card work together. That being said, the middle ability is the core of the design that I wanted to do stuff with.

>>43568881
>it's a good card without the second and third abilities

You are aware that oblivion ring was changed to Banishing Light right?

>>43568901
For the beastcaller, something I've been considering is keeping it as the version that only makes one token, but not having the token disappear and upping the cost a bit. Then the conditional hexproof has more chance to shine (I don't know why people are overestimating that hexproof ability, since by itself it literally is only functioning during combat).

Unearthing Ceremony is pretty neat. I like the tapped clause here, since it can make the price more feasible and also stops the conspired version from being a total brick wall for at least one turn.

I'm still very interested in this set theme.

I just really hate forced colors in cards. Even with all that stuff it feels still fairly U. It feels WUR but still some U in there.

>t. Thaumaturge
What does that name mean?
>First ability
Tokens need a color stance. if they are colorless, it should be, "Put two 1/1 colorless ..."
Pretty god damn strong for UR artifacts but it being a 7 drop with 4 color devotion makes it A-Okay.

Did someone say land tokens? I'm like 90% certain these are terrible but the factions are allied colors anyway so I might leave this subpar cycle in just for the novelty factor.

>card

Seems fair, slight cost bump for a slight upside. I'd prefer the 1/1s to be Imps but that's just flavor preference.

>>43568910

Jesus, you're the ladder too? What set symbol haven't you been?

>teaching

Nice, I started out as an English major with similar aspirations. Transitioned to philosophy soon after, it would be great to teach that for a living but that seems increasingly less likely.

>>43568911

Haha wow, I only needed nine words and still managed to fuck it up.
>>
>>43569110
Gain 4 life scry 1 doesn't seem like it's worth a card though.
>>
>>43569064
>recall
Maybe just "costs less" then? That's what it was at previously but I buffed it a little with the discard requirement being tacked on.

>Mephun
What an odd card. Seeing defender on a BR card just causes me to spittake. The rest of it seems legit, and I get that it has defender so it can be cheaper, but it still just feels so off.

>>43569067
>my race is my job
What is this, D&D1e? Jokes aside, it's kind of interesting how his token gen ability doesn't gel with his other two, though they make him feel very busy all told. I feel like in that case, you should just do away with the first ability and make him a touch easier to cast. And maybe a 4/4 too.
>>
>>43569172

I feel like it could be an interesting option. There are those really awful old cards that can replace card draw with life gain, and those are pretty bad. However, when you attach scry 1 to the ability, you are digging just as much as if you were drawing a card, and only setting yourself back 1 draw (which the card can then pop itself to get). The idea is that late game, when finding a specific answer matters more than drawing more lands or low drops that don't impact the game, you can be chunking up on life while digging just as well.
>>
>>43569110
Holy shit I read that as though it repeatedly Oringed things. That's why I even said that. Nevermind.

Still feel that the other two abilities are tacked-on and have no real flavor connection to the exile.
>>
>>43569223

Eh, I guess this is perception at work. The oring ability is listed first because it's an ETB, but that was actually the part I tacked on to the card.

I'd rather not make the card lose that functionality though, because like I said, the middle effect is not worth its own card. And if it were on it's own card, it'd be cheap, but that doesn't matter since the ability is only good late in the game.

As for the flavor, I don't really find that an issue.

>teaching
A side note on teaching; I have several friends that did it, and I won't presume to ask you where you are in the world, but in several places in the US of A you need to be careful about the common practice of "fire then hire" that schools do to prevent tenure. They will sign you to a year contract, then fire you, then rehire you so you get no raises and it becomes harder to buy time or retire promptly. Just something to look out for, but since you're already in the mix, you probably already know that if you live in this country. Not everywhere does it but a lot of places do.

that would actually make for a very interesting common cycle. It's not good obviously, but it provides a very interesting kind of fixing. I would put them in my "Tokens matter set".
I was considering imps. I'll change it to that.

>>43569188
Don't get me wrong, I think recall is a cool ability it's just I dislike how hard it is to make good cards with graveyard interaction and not in some way buff delve/dredge.

I have a lot of ideas, but not the wherewithal to finish many of them. When I post new concepts, I tend to post them divorced from my old work, to get unbiased eyes on them.
>New Set
That's the same reason I started up a new project. Going from timeset 1 to timeset 2 started to burn me out a bit, so it was nice to work on something in a completely different direction.

Kind of reminds me of recover, even though they're very different. Interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it!
>>43569110
>I'm still very interested in this set theme.
Mechanically, it's a "cost matters" environment. Thematically, I have a lot of ideas, but I'll be brief. It's set underground in a society based around a seemingly bottomless vertical shaft, like an inverted Tower of Babel. They live in tunnels around the shaft and in rickety scaffold-like settlements built all up and down it.

It's interesting how people perceive cards so differently. I still really like that card, it seems oddly cohesive in an intriguing way but at the same time I can see how someone else could look at it and go "what the fuck is going on here?"

Is Grixis Delve a thing? I suppose it could be since you see it in B and U a lot, so yeah, Recall can be a bit of an issue, but we'll see. At least it's not card advantage like it was when I first conceived it. I'll keep it as-is for now then.

>Mephun
Oh. Well then, wedges ahoy? I take it you're shifting the focus color a little to get your flavor?

>>43569346

Hm. A reach anthem on something this cheap could be disruptive, but I guess it depends on how extensive flying is, since I can't imagine flying would be a common adaptation in a cluttered vertical shaft except for very small creatures. Or very important ones.

I like it, honestly. Black caring about land types is a bit of a stretch, and the other anon has a point about "xeno" usually meaning living things, not places, but it's a good one-drop, and I have an appreciation for those.

>>43569471
Seems fine, except you need an "until end of turn" on that anthem.

I wouldn't worry about delve/dredge effects with recall as they already have plenty of ways of getting specific cards into graveyards
