Hi /tg/. I could use some help with something. I'm trying to pick a Legion for Horus Heresy games. I tend to like loyalists, but I've always liked the look and backstory for the Night Lords. Do any of you fa/tg/uys have ideas for compelling, plausible fluff for a band of loyalist Night Lords? So far, the best I can think of is that a band of mostly Terran Night Lords was conducting a crusade on the outer edges of the galaxy, and when they returned, most of them were outraged that the rest of their Legion betrayed the Imperium that they fought for and sacrificed so much for. Of course, some of them probably dissented and those traitors had to be purged.
Of course, I could just go with Raven Guard, since they are loyal and not as grimderp as Night Lords. Right now I'm mainly interested in a fast, hard hitting Legion and Raven Guard, Night Lords, and Emperor's Children all fit that.
Thanks guys.

There were almost no Loyalist Night Lords. The majority of their Legion was made up of Murderers, Rapists, Thieves, etc. who adored their Primarch. The rest were largely dicks, and rather cynical and jaded due to the tactics the legion employed.

The murderers and rapists mostly came after recruits were drawn from the gangs on Nostramo. The Terran-born were drawn from the outcast children of prisoners.

However, I do tend to agree with you. It seems that it will be very difficult to justify loyalist Night Lords.

Other than Word Bearers the Night Lords were probably the traitor legion with the least loyalists.

Just make them Terran Night Lords that were disgusted how the Legion operated after the Heresy. Doing horrible things in the name of the Emperor for a safe and unified Imperium was completely acceptable to them. But after the betrayal, they were suddenly a band of psychopaths performing atrocities for the glory of Warmaster Horus,

All legions had enough marines on both sides of the Heresy to build an army out of. No exceptions. Saying that there were "fewer" loyalist legionaries from the Night Lords is irrelevant when that number could still be in the hundreds.

Alpha Legion.

This. And even 150 would be only a "few" compared to a legion strength of 100k+

>No exceptions
Did the Word Bearers even have loyalist elements? I think they were fully devoted to chaos.
>>
>>43542705
They did, but the loyalists were purged fairly early.
>>
>>43542705
They had, but those were "purged" way before Istvaan.

They weren't purged Istvaan-style, but sent on suicide missions and pretty much died out over time.

Which book is that from?

One of the HH books by FW.

Book 4: Conquest, I believe.

Well there is a possibility that the Prince of Crows went loyalist.

You could say that they wanted to be actual space-batmen. They realized their sins and wishes to absolve themselves of being just as bad as those they hunted by turning to true justice. Thus they turn on the Traitor Legions to save humanity of an even worse fate than enslavement under the Imperial boot.

Who?
>>
Sure, just let them be a clan with more moderate views the heroes the galaxy needs, not deserves. the Dark Knights
>>
>>43543610
Alpha Legion.

Take the tinfoil off, anon, they don't exist.
>>
>loyalist Night Lords
You mean Carcharodons?

Thanks for the input, everyone.

Raven Guard.

I cant remember which one, but one of the BL books mentions this: There was a company of Night Lords (I believe they were terrans) that was intensely loyal to the Emperor and the Crusade. Kurze sent them and a small fleet to the opposite end of the galaxy when the heresy was about to go down.

Ive never heard anything about them aside from that. So this seems to be a perfect foundation for what youre trying to do.

No II legion crap here anon.
