Yo, /tg/, shout out your hidden desires for a tabletop game that no one seems to be smart enough to figure out would be amazing.

A miniatures game that did altitude and 3 dimensional movement in general would be amazing.
>>
>>43511090
Yeah I want an altitude mod for table top

this. fighting on different heights is always something I wanted to do.

airal combat with Dnd charcters that is.
Never got far enough to do it though.
>>
Space combat, i.e. combat in 3d
>>
>>43511111
Quads agree, this is the greatest idea ever thought up.
>>
>>43511049
A board game that incorporated spelling words (balanced between what letters are used vs. the length of the word) to determine movement, ala Scrabble
>>
>>43511049

Virtual gaming table with models that have programmed bases. Table can show you measurements, unit stats, terrain effects, line of sight, etc.

Also nuff teef to buy one.
>>
>>43511049
Crunchy mechanical social interactions with complex modifiers and plenty of widgets to play with. Give the same focus on debates as combat has.
>>
>>43511161

One day anon, it shall be available at affordable prices.

Yet again, when it will be, this world would so much more interesting when it has that in it.
>>
>>43511157
Check em, those are pents.
>>
>>43511188
>>43511161
But why? That's so many things you have to pay for to get a HUD. Plus it doesn't add to the game at all since we can keep track of all that ourselves.

Try again and give it a reason to exist. Otherwise it'll never be viable.

A god game on the level of Dominions that's fast enough to be played within an hour and a half.

For sure, it wouldn't even be that hard, I've thought about it. Using laser range finder technology for heights as well as LOS. I was also considering calibrating over head laser projector lamp filters to produce hexagonal patterns for example to utilize free standing terrain for other games, on top of a line scale overlay. you could even just use it for quick reference it wouldn't have to be on the whole time. Sensors could be posted on the sides/corners of the table or even on the wall to pin point the elevation axis, intriguing, fantastic thought anon.

A game with what are essentially bipartite sets making up members of the party.

Basically, the party is divided into two clear types of character, and they are paired up from the opposite groups.

i.e., Servant/Master in F/SN, Navi/Operator in Mega Man Battle Network, Digimon Tamer/Digimon, etc

Closest thing I've seen is like Monsters and Other Childish Things, but that's less conducive to letting players make up both categories.
>>
>>43514209
This pretty a pretty cool idea. It would require a lot on the player end, because OoC disputes between two players whose characters are bonded would cause a good deal of extra turbulence, especially if there's any sort of implication of authority on one end like you frequently see with this type of relationship.
>>
>>43511049
A fantasy game with realistic ranged weapon damage.

btech, to the point of absurdity if you want.
>>
>>43511167
I'm working on something, but here's the thing. you get too complex, and things slow down drastically. That and it is a lot harder to definitively describe aspects of social interaction.

The game died before I got into table top gaming but didn't heroscape do this?

Was heroscape any good?
>>
>>43516407
Played it for a bit, still have it in a closet.
The objective rules are a little wonky, but otherwise it was a wonderful solid game.
Fun, building the battlefield was the best part, especially when you have crazy ass towers around 50 steps high.

The only reason I can see for its death was a lack of support.
No competitive scene, not really popular, and Hasbro doesn't care.
>>
>>43515364
You're certainly not wrong! That's one of the challenges of this kind of mechanic.

Interesting, I'll give it a read. Thanks for digging it up.

With GURPS you might as well make your own fucking tabletop rpg book then, considering you have to design most everything from scratch yourself anyway.

Custom table or board with rfid readers in it, custom bases with rfid tags in it, a projector mounted to the ceiling a cpu, and knowledge of programming. You can have this now for probably sub 2000 dollars incuding cost of labor if you really wanted.

or you could play gurps

Just because you can use GURPS for everything doesn't mean you should.
>>
>>43518641
>people want something nothing else does
>shouldn't use the system that can, and will, and in some of those examples best handle that
>>
>>43518660
The problem with GURPS is that it's using broad strokes to cover everything. Sure, it works for everything, but it doesn't work best for everything.
Besides, if people wanted to use GURPS for what they're doing, they could just go to the GURPS general and poke around for a bit. I had assumed this thread was for answers other than GURPS.
>>
>>43518737
just sounds like you don't like gurps. because if people don't know what they need to run their games, how are they going to go directly to the solution?
>>
>>43518775
Not anon but I find it hard to believe that there are people on /tg/ who would post in a thread about the weird niche shit they wish a game would specificaly cover that don't know what gurps is. I'm a relative newfag to /tg/ related stuff and even I know what it is
>>
>>43518660

Might as well just do freeform at that point.
>>
>>43511049
I have loads of ideas, but none of the are hidden, so I can't post any.

Congrats OP, you've paradox'd yourself out of feedback.
>>
>>43520454
We can fix that paradox, just use GURPS.

>Yeah I want an altitude mod for table top
I am pretty sure phoenix command will have that somewhere
>>
>>43518775
Two things.

1) Gurps is only good if you want a really rigid simulation + detailed character building in whatever setting you plan on playing, which you don't always want.

2) Suggesting Gurps every fucking time is like saying that people should use Fate for it, but twice as annoying because at least Fate is a generic system that is designed around you making it up as you go along.

He's making a joke on how GURPS players will *always* show up in a thread and claim it will solve all problems, fit all scenarios, and has no problems of its own, as showcased in this very thread.
>>
>>43518660
Fellow GURPS convert here. The only problem is all those supps.
>>
>>43517379

It's a pretty good one considering GURPS explicitly markets itself as a toolkit system.
>>
>>43522233
That's what I suspected, but it didn't really related to what I was saying so much as the OP.
>>
>>43518660
>Sure, you can use GURPS
>Just make sure to read these 3-4 seperate books just to even start, then make everything from the ground up.
>Then maybe you can start, realize how terrible you made everything and start all over again.

I want the guy who was making a bastion setting to finish it.
