Not exactly. It was for a CoC game so the stories in question were just "evil bullshit happening behind the veil" that Hastur decided to funnel straight into his nightmares, because when he was a kid he read from his dad's special book.
He became a famous writer by just writing down the shit he saw in his dreams, but they were so raw he turned to drinking and gambling, and ended up in debt up to his eyeballs. When he actually tried to stop letting the dreams get to him, he started coming up with his own stuff from scratch, but it was complete garbage and flopped hard.
The campaign ended with some emissary of the king in yellow telling him to write a new holy text that will be used to bring Hastur to power or something, if he doesn't want his nightmares to drive him crazy that is. He politely declined and blew his own brains out with a shotgun just to completely fuck their plans.
