I haven't bought a GW product in years. I think they are over priced and GW is a greedy company that couldn't give a fig about games other than as a means to profit.

That being said the art, layout and quality (other than rules) of their printed products and miniatures are excellent.
>>
>>43460998
They still haven't improved their troops drawings though. It's still the same lazy shit as 30 years ago, with cookie cutter templates with colour swaps and that's about it.
I still can't believe nobody _ever_ calls them on this shit. They could do some amazing, Osprey quality illustrations.
But no, here are two pages of the exact same fucking models in various colours and you all gobble it up. Fuck that noise.

it doesnt make any sense. to have something in ultraviolet, youd need a material that only reflects electromagnetic waves in the corresponding wavelength and frequency like with any (visible) colour.

I wish pic related was the _standard_ for patterns and paint scheme illustrations, rather than a wonderful exception used for flavour.

>Wait you actually like the rules of the current Chaos Codex?

I do, apart from the standard chaos space marine squad I've had more fun tinkering with this codex then any other I've played.

for instance, I recently used Cultist figures and Ork Trucks to build mad max rhinos, nothing in them (their squads were NM hanging in the back), I just needed the Dirge casters up there with the CC guys. Then I added the Destoyer blades for shits and giggles to great results.

When you don't expect anything from a token unit it's amusing how effective they sometimes become.

>Do you play a generic warband or did you just never experience 3.5th?

Didn't play chaos during 3.5th sadly. I got in with the horrid 5th ed. codex, which was my first army. Shelved it until 6th which was a breathe of fresh air. Throw in daemon allies now and it's a blast, you have so many units to pick from and it's a converters wet dream. I've been stuned by my own win rate aswell. Only thing that really breaks my testies are Imperial Knights.

And I'd stick with this "bad" book a hell of a lot more then I'd want that layout.

to all you people sayin you could just target a ghostkeel using regular sights, remember that f.ex. space marines have targeting arrays in their lenses and dont actually use their sights that much. additionally, going from "holophoton countermeasures" it is implied that there is some kind of photon, so light, emission. if, IF GW writers know their greek, holo means whole. so a whole lotta light. or they meant holo as in holographic which would mean sth along projectors that disguise the suits actual position via hologramm

No, read it again. It has no effect on bare eyes. Just electronics.
>>

>GW writers know their greek
>GW writers know
>GW knowing
Hah.

We have holofield tech. It's called holo-fields and they do exactly what you described. But in that case guns targeting systems wouldn't refuse, they'd fire into thin air.

And yes, Astartes Bolters are hideously overcomplicated and has a bunch of expensive doodads and targeting arrays and all that.

Take the humble cultist. He has an autogun. It's pretty much an AK. It shoots bullets. It has iron sights. Yet, ECM systems block it. They even lampshade that it probably shouldn't block Ork systems, since they're pretty much entirely mechanical. It's an interesting mechanic, but a questionable fluff motivation.

Why not simply state outright, or at least actually imply that it's Eldar holofield tech they've reverse-engineered? That would make much more sense.
>>
It also works on the Tyranids, Necrons, Daemon, Chaos, Eldar and so on.
>>
The thing is already Shrouded and Stealth (thanks to the drones). This only makes attempts to target the thing even harder at long distances.

What's bullshit to me is the absolute Tau tabletop wank.

"The Tau could not stand against the Imperium spamming dozens of Reaver Titans like in Apocalypse, so therefore we invented the Stormsurge superheavy which we'll let Tau take multiples of in non-Apocalypse games".

Really?

Really?

It's a real shame. I'd actually buy those generic "battles of the XYZ" books if they were laid out like osprey manuals.

The sentence I wanted to write originally was "I guess only historical people are that autistic... in a good way?", but I guess that goes without saying, hah!

No but seriously, as a painter, I love how Vallejo Model Color has like twelve different shades of khaki depending on what army you want to paint. It's fascinating.

Let's face it, we'll always have autists in this hobby, but if at least we could get the nice art to go with it, I think that would be great!
I can ignore autists, I can't ignore lazy art.

Well that rules out /tg/ and the internet fanbase for 40k as a whole. :^)

I honestly have no problem with the heraldry as they've done it in the 7th Edition codices since the main point is obviously to help you if you want your models to have an "authentic" feel to them.

Like another Anon said, FW's heraldry is better by a bit, but you also pay more for those books. The two page layout showing gear and such that you find in those is books is nice and I wouldn't mind seeing it added to the codices, but it's nowhere near the same thing as the heraldry.

>>43469308

The mention of outgunning could also be referring to the Manta.

GW will also alter the setting as they see fit.
>>
>>43469560
I don't care what people say, I like it's upper torso, legs are shit.
>>
I would kill if it would make GW put a piece of art in each codex matching the codex's faction against every other major faction.
>>
>>43469308
Kill yourself the Tiger Shark can be equipped with the heavy railguns and take out titans there's no need to only have mantas be titan killers when tiger sharks are way easier to build
>>
>>43469308
It really is. The idea that to deploy one of these things, they're sacrificing an entire Cruiser (which could ordinarily carry 4 Hammerheads and 8 Crisis suits) for a single giant robot with no arms.

The whole battlefield role of the Stormsurge makes no sense when you stop to consider the Tau's other units for 2 seconds.
>>
>>43469458
I really wish they had made it a giant grav-tank instead. It makes much more sense for a ground-based option rather than giant robots.

Why people still can't comprehend this is beyond me.

The anime and manga inspired battlesuits are a big part of what make the Tau what they are. Take those away and replace them with tanks and they don't have much to help stand out from other armies or at least the Eldar and Necrons.
>>
>>43469647
How big is it actually? Is it much bigger than a riptide, because I kinda want one to paint up for my Tau vs Chaos diarama but that giant fucking pricetag is making me really nervous.

There are pegs on the model that you can cut off if you desire to change the pose. There was a picture in WD of the Stormsurge sort of striding forward to get into firing position.

>>
>>43472641

GW has been pretty decent with models such as the Riptide, Wraithknight, and Stormsurge where they include both the option for those who aren't confidant in their modeling abilities and those who either are or who want to try bettering themselves.

How would you guys feel about using Gate of Antares models for tau?

They got drones and everything! The crab suits maybe count as stealth suits?

though the starter set is quite pricey, have to wait for the individual plastic sets
>>
>>43474625
Those Crab mechs could work great as some sort of Auxillary. A crustacean race wearing heavy armor.

They seem fine though. The human soldiers could work well as Gue'vesa, and the drones wouldn't be too out of place.

most are pricey as heck though being metal
>>
>>43465193
You can't understand how someone might have more money than you?

That they might not want to pirate something they're going to use extensively over the next 2 years?

That the difference in price between the regular codex and the Limited Edition one is, to them, small enough that it is overshadowed by the additional pleasure and happiness that owning a fancy version would bring them?

You don't have to want to do something personally in order to understand why someone else would want to do it.
