Are there any free ways to play Magic: the Gathering online with full access to every card? Is it worth it to buy one of the online games, or do they also make you gamble / buy cards?

Also what is a good deck to teach someone how to play?

Cockatrice? It's a pain to get working but hey, it's free.

Cockatrice, Xmage

Use intro decks to teach how to play.

LackyCCG is a good way, but you have to do regulate the rules yourself. Magic Duels exists and is official and free to play, but is shit.

Magic Duels on Steam is free and made by Wizards. You can earn packs for free but you can also buy them with in-game cash you earn for beating opponents or completing a challenge. However, it's pretty buggy, not conducive to online play due to it dropping players all the time, and it only contains cards from the last set. It's a good way to teach new players the game but not a good way to play.
If you already know how to play, the other poster correctly recommended Cockatrice. It's pretty solid, but WotC sent the creator a C&D so he can't update it anymore. As a result, the bugs that are there will always be there. You can import and use your own cards, but it doesn't have game mechanics built in except for turn order, so you have to do everything yourself.
If you know the person IRL, the best way to teach is to go to your LGS and pick up two intro decks. They're 30 cards and LGSs have to give them away for free. That's the best way to teach someone.

Also, not every card in Magic Duels of course.

>Magic Duels
OP, if you want to teach someone else how to play, this is fine. If you are learning how to play, fuck those guys.

Get Magic 2014 and mod the shit out of it.

Cockatrice from Woogerworks is really good, gets real card image, pretty quality client, and healthy online community.

Installer is complete, really good.

Cockatrice is the absolute worst thing to pick up if you don't know how to play.

It has no rules engine and everyone cheats like mad.
>>

Thats because if it had a rules engine it wouldn't be legal. We've already had a C&D without a rules engine. With one they would shut us down instantly.

Well if you don't know how to play then you don't know how to play. If you need someone to teach you, then you need someone to teach you regardless.

But that wasn't what OP was asking. He wanted a free program with full access to every card. There is literally nothing that does that AND teaches you how to play.

Are you fucking illiterate? Reread is post.
>Also what is a good deck to teach someone how to play?

Even if he isn't looking to learn how to play, he clearly has teaching someone the rules on his mind.

>There is literally nothing that does that AND teaches you how to play.
What about Forge? I never used it myself, but it does have rules enforcement.

Also, like >>43092615 said, 2014+mods. There's little that can't be coded.
