Your people have walked for a long time.

The people of the south have never cared much for your kind; all it took was one night of drunken revelry to cause them to snap. Sure the drunkard Brinjolf might have eaten a few sheep and kicked over a wall but was that cause for the humans unrelenting assaults? So many dead, so much lost.

For months your people have marched, fleeing the wreckage of your home. Finally it seems that your pursuers have tired, leaving you alone in this cold wasteland. A faint yellow sun struggles to warm the frozen earth, its faint warmth hardly felt. The mountains encroach on all sides of the valley you find yourselves in, the ground is covered in hardy foliage and your mammoths graze unhappily on the hard grass. Your people gather around, looking to Gorlm, their elder for guidance.

Your people need shelter and at Gorlm’s word they set about to gather materials. The sparse thickets of pale white wood seem to be the only readily available source of lumber in the area. The wood is incredibly hard, if your people were “normal” sized it would take days to cut down just one cluster but thanks to their strength they rip most trunks clear from the ground.

The other use their time roughly trying to shape the wood with the materials they have, its agonizingly slow work having to clear the trunks of branches but soon a small pile of cleaned lumber is ready to be laid as the foundation.

While a pair of younger Giants were searching for new sources of lumber they came across a wide-mouthed cave, big enough for even your people along one of the mountain’s base. They say they heard running water inside but came back before either could investigate. (Deep Cave Found)

Too many people are needed to gather lumber and the shadows are growing long. You send a trio of Giants to search the cave, perhaps youll be able to sleep out from under the stars for once? The trio are eager too and take their leave, talking excitedly of lost treasure or hidden gems.

When they arrive at the mouth of the cave they take a brief moment to pause and gather themselves; while unarmed they aren’t concerned with bears or wolfs and instead step brazenly into the darkness of the cave. The splashing of water on stone is clear now and they step carefully through the darkness. The neck of the cave suddenly opens up wide, a huge chamber yawns wide before them. A single shaft of sunlight shines down onto a burbling streamlet that’s being fed by a small waterfall. The trio disperses, searching the cave and finding several dead-end tunnels leading away from the chamber. One goes to the base of the waterfall to check its source and quench his thirst.

A loud screech echoes around the domed chamber, the darkness making it seem to come from everywhere. From behind the waterfall lunges a huge, furred troll! Before the Giant can draw his arm back the hunched, squat beast takes him in the chest, bowling him over. His cries mingle with the Troll’s enraged wails.

The other two come running to their brother’s aid all too soon, his howls are cut short by the Troll’s gnashing, ragged teeth. Limp arms fall away from the thick beast and it’s head snaps up, beady eyes glittering in the darkness of the chamber. Its bloody maw gapes wide, howling a moment before leaping from its perch atop the fallen Giant’s chest and charging at the duo.

One of the Giants steps towards the charging Troll, hands out in front of him, body bent low. The beast accepts the challenge and charges bodily into the larger Giant. For a moment the Giant teeters, Troll claws and teeth biting and ripping into his flesh before he bends his knees and arches his back in one swift, violent motion. The Troll is smashed violently into the hard, uneven ground with a sickening, wet crunch. The Giants twists his body away but stays low, his fingertips brushing across the grey stones. The Troll struggles for a moment before its regeneration takes hold and it flings itself towards the waiting Giant, one of its legs hanging limply behind it.

Again the Giant takes the brunt of the charge, gripping the Troll’s shaggy coat and begins to drop back. It does not go smoothly. The Troll writhes and slips the hold, instead mashing the Giant flat against the stones. Its claws rise and fall in violent strokes, ripping and tearing at the Giant’s raised arms. Blood flows freely into the trickling waters.

Distracted the Troll only has a short moment to feel the stone against the back of its head before it is removed from its body. The other Giant’s powerful muscle-structure unleashed in a single, violent strike, the head sails across the chamber before smacking in a wet bundle against the far wall. The Troll’s body twitches and for a moment it looks like it might continue fighting, a second blow to its back crushes its spine and leaves it limp against the floor.

Both the Troll and the fallen Giant are lugged from the cave and brought back to the others. By the time they return shadow has firmly gripped the valley, the sun hidden behind the mountains. The ground crunches with frost. A mother wails, clutching the ruins of her son, her husband silent and face set in stone behind her.

Night is coming and with it the snow. The two who scouted the cave say its big enough to house the whole tribe, even the mammoths could fit in one of the smaller chambers.

The Giants gather themselves and head into the yawning mouth of the cave. Soon a small fire is lit from the Hardwood, fortunately the stuff burns hot and slow.

Outside several of the Giants stand beside a recently dug hole, dirty, freezing hands ignored as their dead are lain to rest. No cup of wine is passed for there is no wine and no glass, no drums are played because no drums are held. Just a mother’s silent weeping filters through the air. After some time a Giant begins to hum a song of home. While it is a tuneless chord it has as much heart as the towering man can give and soon the song is picked up by the others. Soon words are given voice, missing ones are made up hastily and the dark valley is filled with the mournful song of Giants for the first time.

Morning comes, one of your Giants is pregnant! Her stomach bulges notably.

The tribe cant help but notice how bad the wounds are on the Giant who wrestled the Troll, its obvious his wounds are infected despite his assurances that he is fine. Several are sent out into the early morning light to search for medicine. Meanwhile the others spend their time searching the cave more thoroughly, wanting to be sure of their new home. All in all there is little of note really, most of the caves cut short, their paths smooth. One ends in a small, moss covered pool an adventurous Giant scoops a handful of the dark green stuff into his mouth and is delighted to find that its sweet tasting.
>Hag’s Moss Deposit Found (1 Food every few turns)

Another venture behind the waterfall and stops short. There is a small chasm bidden behind the waters and it absolutely glitters in quartz! Delighted by their discovery they call over one of their tribe. An Ice mage by the name of Oni. He steps carefully into the cave, splattering some of the fall’s water onto the quartz. The clear substance grows suddenly, and violently where the water falls, blossoming and blooming into new formations.

The beginnings of the shelter are torn down easily, the lumber moved to the face of the cave and construction goes off without a hitch, lumber is fitted and hammered into place with bare hands. Its crude and the wind slips through the cracks but its better than before by any stretch. It will be finished by next sundown.
Your scouts return before nightfall, and behind them the mammoths. The beasts chuff and shuffle past the cave opening and into the depths, clearly unhappy with their new nightly den.

The morning comes with the wailing of a newborn. Its mother holds it close beneath her blouse against the biting cold. The Tribe gathers around their new member, its cries filling their hearts with hope.

Hunger waits for no man. Several Tribesmen are sent to scour the river for crabs and watch for any other wildlife.

They return a few hours later, each with a few of the thick mudcrabs in hand. (+2 Food) One says they went down the river to the south and found a lake at its base. He even claims to have seen a few fish leaping from its waters! He goes on to say that there was a thin vale of hardwood at the river’s base, perhaps a good place to gather lumber?

In the meantime the other clansmen have finished building the Door. It’s a bit rough but itll keep out the worst of the cold, no doubt it could be made better with better tools and a hide or two. (Cave Gate finished)

Not an hour later a scout returns clutching a bushel of long, fat, green leafs. He remembers them from back home, they are good for pain if you chew them and rub them on the source. He seems pretty confident that with more time he can discover more medicines in this harsh landscape. (Crude Medicine finished)

Without the aid of smithing, materials like metal or a forge, the best weapons you can hope to get are stone weapons (very crude versions) and a few sharpened sticks. Do you wanna keep this action?

No copper Tex?

You can actually cold forge that into crude implements and blades.

The blades are essentially copper shanks/weaponized letter openers, and you can potentially get things like shields, although that is ornamental mostly and impractical. You could also probably abuse it into something like scales or panels for lamellar, or various kinds of helmet.

Also fairly inefficient, but if you are Big Heap War Chief, maybe you can afford to have people making you a metallic set of armor that's worth a ridiculous amount of money.

Many people of course, will be able to afford "Copper Shanks".

I say this because the Tlinget and some other Northwestern coastal tribes had such weapons and extreme luxury goods. (More the daggers and ornamental. they MIGHT have made a small number of metallic armors, but probably mostly stuck to wood and/or bone.)

They were overall very stabby with their war daggers, as anyone who is that bloody determined to make a shank is.

The ornamentation on the handles and pommels of some are fantastic. (generally wood. The metal goes into the dagger.)

Out by the cave mouth a few Giants gather up some hardwood and set a small, low fire. The rest of the day is spent slowly smoking the trunks of smaller hardwood trees to harden them. After a few hours and a set of clubs one gets up to take a piss in the middle of his shift. While unwatched and unguarded a few of the cinders catch on a breeze and settle on the Cave Gate. Seconds later and the hardwood structure is ablaze. With no buckets and no means to combat the flame the best the Tribe can do is evacuate the Cave and save as much hardwood as possible before the Gate caves in on itself.

Leaving behind the smoldering ruins of the Gate a trio of Scouts head out along the mountains to look South. The trek is easy, all things considered, the breeze is cold but calm and on occasion a few small herds of bison can be seen ambling between the hills grazing.

Suddenly one stops, something good is on the wind. Somewhere someone is cooking. The Scouts get low and go slow, trying their best to sneak between the hills to hide their massive bodies. After a mile or so like this one catches a glimpse of thin, grey smoke over the next hill

Your Giants do their best to sneak a peek around the hill and do manage to get a glimpse of a small set of yellow brick houses and a wide, golden field of wheat. Unfortunately they also get an eyeful of a small group of humans who stare up at them with jaws agape.

The humans all wear the same grey tunics and trousers, bland and featureless save for a single black circle in the center of their chests. As one the group wordlessly turns and sprints towards the village, they take a turn around a hill and vanish from sight. Soon the Giants notice a group gathering before the village, easily 60 humans, all in the same grey clothing. They do not charge, simple standing in silence, looking directly at your Scouts. Waiting. they do not appear armed.

A quick game of “Rock, Paper, Scissors” later and one of the Scouts steps fully out from his cover and walks awkwardly towards the crowd. Closer up they seem even less remarkable than at distance. They all stand in silence, even when the Giant stumbles on a rock and takes a heavy stride towards them. A few flinch but not even a whisper can be heard between them. For a moment the Scout stands before the group, towering high over them. The silence stretches on and the Giant opens his mouth to speak only to be cut off by a soft but, commanding voice. “You are a strange one to see in these parts.” The voice seems to be coming from the crowd, despite none of their mouths moving. “I hope you have not come looking to plunder us. We are a peaceful people and wish you no harm.” Pushing through the crowd is a group of 5, they don’t push or shove their way through the masses, despite their backs being turned to them. Instead the humans silently move around them like fish around sharks.

The small being stop before the Scout, looking up at him with blank expressions. They are strange, their skin is a soft shade of blue and their eyes look almost as if painted in place. “Have you come to harm us?” The voice is impossible to read, both smug and humble, grating and soothing. The Scout pauses.
