PREVIOUSLY on DRAGON QUEST:
You defeated FAIRY EMPRESS with the help of ELF and delivered the MITHRIL to the dwarves, creating peace between them and the elves. As promised, ELF led you to MAGIC SWORD. You claimed MAGIC SWORD but then DRAGON attacked! ELF has decided to stay back and distract DRAGON so you can escape.

You slash the roots with your ROCKET-DRILL SPEAR and carry ELF out of FOREST. DRAGON caught up and tries to shred you and ELF with its claws but you and ELF make it out unscathed. Outside, you see that DRAGON has given up and is flying away.

"HERO, that was too reckless of you! We almost got killed! Anyway, I heard FOUNTAIN in CITY has magic properties. Maybe if you dip MAGIC SWORD in there it will get rid of that rust?"
