_______________

A few weeks have passed since the Stinkhorns revealed themselves. They have integrated well with the rest of the clan, and seem to be doing okay. Many of your people are wary of their presence, however. Their tentacular appendages have a tendency to snatch at things and slap those who stand too close. And their magic abilities are wild.

The first incident happened the night they were born. One of the Stinkhorns managed to start a fire in your oldest structure, the mud granary. The detritus was turned to ashes, and the Bronto meat was seared. After moving the food into the stone structure though, you noticed that the meat tasted better, and seemed to last longer. Other 'accidents' followed. Including one of your new friends firing red streams of flame from his claws, which soon set a tree ablaze. The other Stinkhorn managed to conjure up a ball of water, which he used to quench the flame. There were also occurrences of freak winds when one of the Stinkhorns became injured, followed by rumbling tremors on the ground around him. It became apparent that they possessed the seeds of elemental power. Maybe it would be wise to choose one for them both to focus on, so that they don't get overwhelmed and cause more damage?
Choose one speciality (cannot be changed):
>Fire
>Water
>Earth
>Air

Meanwhile, there have been no signs of the test subjects that were sent of to Qerx, and his order of Crystalid magi. Maybe somebody should go and see that everything is okay?

Tensions are rising within your clan; the uncontrolled magic, the lack of direction and the suspicious test subjects. Maybe somebody will step up and lead your people soon...

Your Stinkhorns head off into the ruins to practice their magic in peace. They let your people know that they will try to manipulate soil and earth to further benefit your people, and should be back in a few days.

You decide meanwhile, that the best course of action would be going straight to Qerx, and confronting him about the 'subjects'. But before you can do so, you need a talker. Somebody who can throw down with him, but has the best interests of the clan at heart.
Leliga steps forward, as one of the most esteemed Drones, nobody questions her. It was she who first invented the spear; and her who first took command of the Brontoceanea. With cries of "Queen Leliga!", she takes a group of 5 Drones with her to see what Qerx is up to.

Upon arrival at the tower, it looks much the same as before, leaning into the lake with gemstones protruding here and there. There is one difference though.

The top floor of the tower has a thick white fungus enveloping the exterior. Queen Leliga and her squad move up to the door, brandishing their spears; then head up.

Upon reaching the top floor, a strange sight greets you. The 10 Drones are sat against the walls looking completely out of it. They look unconscious and unwell. Each of them has a crown of red crystals poking out from their caps viciously, and the crystals on the walls seem to be leaking a dangerous looking fungi from their shards. Qerx is nearby, tweaking one of your Drones, with his back turned to you.

A. Attack him.

Your Drones grasp their spears tighter. Leliga steps forward and speaks loudly.
"Qerx, what's going on here? These Myceanea look half-dead. Am I to understand that our deal is soured?"
"Ah, you have a speaker now? I never disclosed our experiments with you. We test on every new species that we find in the wilderness. It's a precaution." He wipes his gleaming brow.
"If you'd leave me to it, I'd appreciate it. We held our end of the bargain. Hold yours and leave." He turns his back to you and continues experimenting. One of your Drones seems to wince with pain.

"We can't risk attacks from other beings. We're testing defences for our home. You are irritating me now."

Leliga looks at the floor and sighs. This should have been a more beneficial meeting.

As you are leaving, you try to prise some of the gems from the walls on the lower floors, but they won't budge without some kind of tool to free them.

When you return to camp, you find everybody eagerly awaiting your news. The Stinkhorns also seem to have returned.

Your Stinkhorns have developed their Earth magic well, and have cleared the other elements from their mind; but they need more specificity. They need to know which route they should head down next:

>Tremor: Cause slight vibrations in the ground (20ft radius).
>Column: Rise a column of Earth from the ground (6ft high with 2ft radius).

The Stinkhorns strengthen their ability to tap into the powers of Earth. They take the Queen over to the ruins to display their powers. One of the Bronts piles up some bricks from the floor. Each Stinkhorn uses their new ability, one on the small tower of bricks, the other on the wall nearby. The ground rumbles slightly and you feel the soil beneath your feet shifting. The bricks soon collapse into a pile of rubble. The wall is making a stand though. The best the Stinkhorn can do is make a few cracks along the length of the wall before dropping to his knees with fatigue. Leliga thanks them, and returns to the town hall.

Meanwhile, the other Drones have begun to experiment with stones. They have ideas that they are trying to bring to fruition, but they are having trouble making the weapons. It is obvious that they will get their in the end though.

Looking around, you notice that the snow has started to fade, and the first patches of your Crimson grass have begun to sprout through their white blankets.

Some of your Drones continue to play about with the rocks. It seems like they have come up with plans for stone spears, and axes for chopping trees, the problem currently is making them.

With the snow fading, Leliga takes some of the drones out into the clearing, and shows them the most effective way to spread their Spores, which lead to faster Polyp development. With the Crimson ready to be fertilised, the question of what to use arises again.

You also notice that the Brontos in your paddock have started to show their faces again, interestingly they have shed their furry coats. There must be huge piles of fur in their hut, if only they were tame enough to allow you to collect it.

_______________

The Drones decide that the stone tools aren't a priority at the moment. They gather a couple of Brontoceanea and head into the Paddock to try and learn how to keep beasts under control. Within a couple of hours, they have the Brontos behaving well. It would seem that their time with the tame adolescent has made them easier to work with. After the training is done, you collect the big bundles of fur from their hutch and store it in your granary, with the the remaining stockpile.

Meanwhile, the Violshrooms head into the Crimson with the badger corpse you found back in Autumn. Its skin is practically sliding from its bones, and you throw it into the field with disgust. The Crimson doesn't care, and gobbles it up all the same.

7 Polyps stand in the clearing the next time you step outside. They have drawn up the nutrients from the grass greedily and are almost finished maturing overnight! The Polyps are average sized, similar to that of the Drones; but jet black with a large white stripe along their cap.

Proud of their success, the Drones return to the stone tools with renewed vigor and make excellent progress (-1 research time). The axes are coming along nicely, and the spears will be finished after they are sharpened.

Rumours begin to circle amongst your clan that smoke columns in the distant South were visible, even over the tree tops. This is both worrying and intriguing.

Later that night, the Polyps rise from the ground. As already noticed, these Badgerceanea are similar to the Drones, with something of an emo palette. However, they have maws full of long sharp teeth, and claws twice as long as normal. They seem territorial at first, but soon begin to integrate. Before long they are listening to the others telling stories in the town hall, and joining in on the group activities.

A handful of Drones and Badgers head out to the beach, steering clear of the tower, to collect food. The spears are quite effective, as are the Badgers diving from the rocks at the watery denizens and snatching them up in their claws. You manage to collect a few loads of a bright green fish around a foot in length. The Badgers were successful in catching 4 strange looking circular beasts that retracted back inside their hardened shell before they could be killed. A tool may be needed to get at the food within.

Back at the homestead, the stone tools are finished! You now have spears with menacing stone blades, and axes that are quite adept at chopping through wood and other materials.

Queen Leliga is more than impressed with how the tribe is coming along. She muses to herself that in the coming months, the tribe should expand from this clearing and spread their Crimson to other areas.

It is also noteworthy that the Brontos seem to have grown into their next stage of developement.

Leliga and a small squad head out from your home in search of new territory. They walk for a few hours, but there is nothing but forest. You do however notice that in this section of the forest, there is a higher abundance of wildlife. You see eyes everywhere watching your every move. Leliga doesn't care, and you begin Sporing the area. Before long, the Crimson grass has spread out across the ground, linking back with the home turf. You now have two breeding grounds (both have to be tended to separately).

Meanwhile, the Drones that were left behind revitalised the Crimson back at your home, making it eligible for fertilisation.

Leliga expects an incoming population bloom. Maybe even an army will develop soon...

Sadly this neglects one thing. We used our only badger corpse to fertilize the first set. we only have Bronto materials for fertilizers/mutations. We'd have to get more and kill us a turtle to do any of this.

Turtles oughta be an interesting mutation though, a good defensive focus one that could make good heavy infantry.

Leliga gets some of the Bronts to come and start lumbering your new territory, making it more homely. The wildlife seem angered and hostile, but do not attack as you destroy their homes. You have a sizable stockpile of timber now, currently sitting in arranged piles in the new hex.

Back at Bloom, the Violshrooms are watching the Brontos intently and discussing ways to utilise them in other ways. One of them clicks his fingers as an idea pops into his head.

He goes and fetches one of the Drones, and whispers in his ear.

Within the hour, the Drone is sat atop the Bronto and steering him uneasily with lengths of vine and a bit made from wood. He's riding bareback, but with some adjustments and ingenuity, this could really pay off.

The turtle-like creatures that you captured earlier have still not poked out of their shells. This doesn't faze you though, you throw them into the Crimson back at the Bloom and watch the vines in the grass tear it apart and consume it. By the next morning, 16 short Polyps sit on the Crimson, consuming the nutrients. The Polyps are brown, with yellow hexagons patterned along them.

Back at the new camp, Leliga orders the Bronts to start making something of a wall from the lumber. Too bad they are idiots. The progress is coming along, but very slowly.

Strange thumping noises can also be heard from the west at random intervals. Leliga notices it, but turns her attention to the walls.

5 Badgers head west to check out the strange noises. After walking for an hour or so, they come across what looks like a shaft leading into the ground. The hole is rather large, and is held up with carved rune scaffolding. You see light down at the bottom of the shaft, before a junction is encountered and nothing else can be seen. Something is definitely down there and hammering away... The Badgers return and relay the news to Leliga.

Meanwhile, the Violshrooms which had success with the Brontos are training them. They respond well to their commands, and somewhat intermediate riding is accomplished. However, to ride them out of the paddock would require some sort of seat for them. The current situation is leaving the Myceanea with sore grated bottoms. Each adult Bronto can seat 2 Myceanea comfortably, or one Brontoceanea.

Whilst everybody gets busy, the Polyps mature and sprout. The new fungi are very strange. They are about 5 feet tall, the same as the Stinkhorns. However, they lack arms. They have caps adorning their heads with huge 2ft radiuses. The caps are made of pure bone, and decorated as the shells were. The Turtaceanea also seem to have very strong necks to support their cap; and can even tilt their heads forward like shields. Other than that, their lack of arms makes them fairly useless until you can think of something.

Your Violshrooms begin researching some kind of saddle for the Brontos. It needs to be able to seat 2 Myceanea; with one steering, and the other doing whatever he likes, such as holding a weapon. However, it also needs to be able to adapt quickly to be able to seat a single, larger Myceanea if need be. Progress is under way and they are hard at work.

Off in the Ruins, the Stinkhorns are trying out new magic, it's volatile at first; but they seem to have thought of two new techniques. They approach Leliga and ask her which she'd prefer:

>Quicksand: Cause the Earth to turn into quicksand (10ft deep, 10ft radius).
>Shockwave: Force a wave of Earth to blast out of the floor in a cone shape ahead of you (destroys the terrain, but has high knockback and blunt damage)

seconding shockwave but for battle formation have the stinkhorns on the backs of the large brontocena so they can cast from above and see the fight
>>
>>37317596
shockwave hands down. we need siege magics not traps.
>>
We could do quicksand tremors to sink the Crystalids or tremor shockwave it down with a chance of survivors. C'mon guys.

This has massive blunt trauma. That way we can hit and hurt the crystals. Use tremor to shake the tower. when they come out slam them with the cone shockwave
