I am going to GM a game about planeswalkers for my friends, but I sat down today and I kinda draw blanks on what a group of neowalkers can do, as a group, that's not interplanar smuggle runs and not a fight against Eldrazi (I'd like to keep interaction with canon 'walkers to a reasonable low).

Can the collective mind of /tg/ please help me to draft up some ideas?
>>
Neowalkers don't live longer, cast spells better, or do anything else extraordinary other than go from one plane to the next. That's all that makes neowalkers special.

This can obviously lead to some interesting character sheets as anyone sapient can still become a walker (although from the current roster you could swear you had to be a human sorcerer first). This means Stephen at the deli may planeswalk just as a muggers about to shoot him when he's making his payment drop after his shift and end up a regular joe on say kamigawa.

What you may be able to do if your players are a little more adept and creative thinkers is to have them trapped on a plane that prevents them from jumping to a new one so to escape they have to figure out what's causing it.

You could also do a mystery type scenerio or perhaps drop them on a world where Slivers or something else is running rampant and amassing a hivemind of everyone on the plane.

Ideally however you should take advantage of the singular ability that planeswalkers share which is the change to bounce around between multiple settings. While difficult to capitalize on, if you do not do something with this, it may as well just be a generic sword and sorcery adventure.

I will probably have a Nantuko walker, yes.

Marit Lage, other evil planeswalker, new Phyrexia.

Any other ideas?

>although from the current roster you could swear you had to be a human sorcerer first

you forgot MISUNDERSTOOD BY THEIR PEERS as a prerequisite
>>

I like that angle, only people who "dont belong" on their homeworld gets the ability to leave it.
Its like Misfits before it got shit, getting a power that reflects a flaw in you.
>>
What sort of players do you have and what character do you expect from them(apart from that monk you mentioned)?
>>
>>44526839
Xenagos ignited his spark from partying too hard, planeswalked, decided the multiverse was shit and went home to Theros and stayed there.
>>
>>44527093
Jeskai djinn monk that ignited when he tried to kill Ojutai over his ruling to kill everybody who knew red magic in Jeskai, and was flung 900 years into the future because of Sarkhan's time fuckery and the strain of too much blue magic at the same time.

A planeswalking Bird-Maiden from Rabiah who can't fly due to being cursed.

A raksha sensualist who wanted to commit grand suicide to be suitably reborn, but ignited and goes around the multiverse sightseeing and burning away Maya.
>>
>>44523919
You can set your game whenever. Just say the neowalkers are dead, blabla, new threats abound, etc.
>>
>>44523919
Make the lore about a plane where planeswalkers can't planeswalk away for some reason, but they can still planeswalk to it. Your PCs are trying to find a way to break this rule of the world so they can go home or continue exploring the multiverse.

Not quite. He didn't want to be a small fish in a big pond because that was too spooky and hard, so he went home and decided he'd try and be a big fish in a small pond instead.

Dont really know the power level of neowalkers. Isnt it very dependent on their own experiences? Anyway, with the basis of easy plane travel:

Chase down a neowalker tearing rips in reality everytime he jumps

Find access to a hidden mini-plane which is made up of a giant library to ask a very important question

A plane made up a giant city needs sewage / waste disposal of things that simply cannot be recycled. Connect a dead/empty plane to dump all the junk in.
>>
>>44529482
It's not a bad move though.

Why be a king, when you could be a god?
>>
>>44529936
>Isnt it very dependent on their own experiences?
Basically, yes.
>>
>>44523919
The simple solution is to find a reason for the characters to be invested in what's going on on a particular plane at the moment. Make them stay of their own accord, rather than FORCING them to stay.
And perhaps the events that are unfolding were caused by an opposing planeswalker, and they need to figure out where said enemy buggered off to and shut down any new plans they have on a new plane afterwards.
>>
>>44524030
actually neowalkers ARE more powerful than non Walkers of "equal magical ability, pre spark"

they just aren't much more powerful.
>>
>>44531456

This. Forcing them to stay on a singular plane completely negates the point of them being Planeswalkers.
>>
>>44535319
Not really.
The difference isn't anything inherent to being a planeswalker in and of itself, but from the chance to learn more, see other places, and forge mana bonds on other worlds.
In essence, a regular mage is stuck with Block Constructed, while a planeswalker can choose cards from every block they've been to. The planebound mage could well be the better mage, but they've got less tools to work with from limited experiences.
>>
>>44537296
I've definitely read that people with the spark have "increased magical affinity" and an increased learning ability.

Quick search on the mtgsalvation wiki (lacked direct source of quote though)
>After the Mending, the nature of a planeswalker's spark changed: they lost their invulnerability, immortality, shapeshifting and most of their additional magical power.

>>44535645
Too bad it only works with non-black walkers (we all know that Sorin's true colors are W/B). Pure black walkers like Ob Nixilis would rather bail out than take responsibility.
>>
>>44537673
Black walkers can care about things. It's just not the same things most walkers care about.
For example, maybe they're trying to get THING on the plane. Or trying to get RID of THING on the plane. Or just want a sweet home away from home but the local church is being a shit.
Or maybe there's something they care about there - Black is allowed to care about others. The thing about Black is that Black comes first, not 'fuck everything that isn't me'. They'll put themselves first, yes, but if you endanger something that they consider Theirs then they will fuck you up the ass.
Alternately, for a more stereotypical black - the Planeswalker Villain of the Story has done something to piss Black off. The other walkers are in it to stop PVotS from doing Nasty Stuff, Black is just in it to get revenge on PVotS for whatever slight was committed.
