Swooping is a status effect that FMC can enter at the start of their turn. It doesn't last until the next turn, it last until changed by a rule. Usually by the FMC changing flight mode or being grounded.
The Y'varha never enter the swooping mode. It's ability say:
>At the beginning of any of the controlling player’s Movement phases, a Y’vahra battlesuit may choose to move as though it was a Swooping Monstrous Creature for that phase. As this move represents a long bounding leap rather than true flight, the Y’vahra battlesuit does not gain the Vector Strike special rule while moving in this fashion. You can notice that it never say that an Y'varha enter swooping mode or count as if it entered swooping mode. It say that it can choose to move as it was swooping, and only for a phase. That means that it can move between 12" and 24" with a pivot and jump over units.
The following effect don't work for the following motives:
>A Flying Monstrous Creature that elects to Run can move up to 2D6" straight forwards if Swooping.
Running is done in the shooting phase. The Y'varna only moves as a swooping FMC in the movement phase.
>A Flying Monstrous Creature cannot charge or be charged whilst it is Swooping.
Same with the assault phase

This depend on when it happens. in the movement phase it can never fall back, in the other phase it can.
If you assume that the Y'varha enters swooping mode then you are fucked because unless your opponents ground it it has no way to exit it (as only FMC can change flight mode), and you are forced to stay swooping until the end of the game.

An actual straight and helpful answer that clearly spells the issue out. I've been trying various places all week to get help with this rule, and usually all I get off people is a vague gut feeling that they want the weaker interpretation to be true because Tau stronk.
Of course the other thing I did notice whilst looking this over that's a little dumb: You know how it says you can't vector strike? Well: Vector striking has jack shit to do with the swooping rules: You gain it from being an FMC. If an non-FMC ever was swooping for any reason, it would not automatically gain Vector Strike.
Redundant and unnecessary rules aren't exactly unusual from GW mind you.

Okay then, looks like Counterfire Defence System is almost an auto-take on the Y'varha then. Double flamer is handy and all, but three shots at BS5 on top of that for 5 points helps with its high priority as a charging target.
Not much else is useful: Too short ranged for Skyfire or interceptor to be much use. Not a good candidate for ATS. I don't use anything outflanking so no positional relay...
That really just leaves to give it FNP or not. It's expensive on an already pricey model... But the most vulnerable Riptide too and I might need it to nova jump if it fails it's hit and run at some point.

May I ask what you're going for with these? This loadout seems really nonsensical.
They will want to move forward to flame people but are too slow to do without a transport or deepstrike while the psycannon will lose range and shots for moving while disallowing assult due to lack of relentless.
Combine them in to one squad putting the psycannons on one unit and all the flamers and hammers on the other.

Theres room in the universe for every Legion to be awesome guys. Letting a Legion or Primarch (other than your favorite) to have some glory or credit just enriches the setting, and makes it deeper. If you're talking about making them competitive you run them in War Convocation. If you wanna blend formations in other ways you're probably best off making the Dominus your warlord to avoid giving up StW so easily... although a PE squad of Plasma Calivers is super tempting.

The Istvaan loyalist chapters were all pretty badass during the Crusade, but since they got punked by Horus so early in the Heresy they never really got the chance to be badasses like anyone else. It is sort of hinted in the FW books that the Iron Hands were militarily one of the most powerful chapters before getting slaughtered at the drop site, and Ferrus was tactically one of the most competent as well - he just loses his shit when he finds out his best friend is sucking daemon cock and all capacity for rational thought flies out the window.
Granted, they also had a reputation for not giving a flying fuck about the lives of the Imperial army and used them as expendable decoys, so they're not the honorable warriors that the BA and Ultras were. They were just really, really good at murdering the enemies of the Emperor as efficiently as possible.
At the end of the day, though, that's what I like most about Ferrus - he doesn't pretend to be anything more than a living weapon. He knows exactly why Big E made the marines, and knows full well there's no real place for them as statesmen or citizens in the world they were creating in the Crusade. He and his legion are there to go out and put worlds into compliance and kill anything that doesn't bend the knee.

You need to build and paint dozens of models.
You need to transport and store dozens of models.
You need to memorize your rules and the BRB rules and you need to get the hang of list making. In DnD you can pretty much fake it until you learn it with a good GM. Any GM worth his salt is just gonna give you a fighter or Barbarian stacked with CON and STR.
You need to know OTHER people's armies so you can select targets better.
