TIE/D Vessery with ion, mk ii engines, and marksmanship
Soontir w/ targeting comp + auto+ptl
doomshuttle

VS

Poe w/ bb8, determination, weps guide
Corran w/ r2, calculation, FCS
blue squadron pilot

Nothing super exciting but it works. I like this Corran a lot, he's functional and relatively cheap.

So, my Jedi Padawan campaign got the axe. Players decided they want to go with a more traditional "edge of the empire" "cowboy bebop\firely" campaign.

Which is cool with me, but I've done that already.

So far, I've got...
>military background pilot (taking AoR career and specs)
>force sensitive honorable bounty hunter
>starship mechanic
>jedi sentinel whose master was killed, and now he has to go it alone
>chose a VCX-100 as party ship

Thankfully, this kind of game is easy to run. I figure I'll run it sometime prior to ANH, with the rebellion just starting up, and go pure Rebels with it

Its an everchanging and mercurial world, that of running campaigns.

Its too bad though - i nearly had them convinced. One player was adamantly against it - one player didn't have any good jedi concepts - the other two players really wanted to do it, but were just as happy doing an EotE game.

They really didn't want me to be tie breaker, because I would have gone with the jedi game

Also, does anyone have any good deckplans for the VCX-100? This is the only one ive got, and its not great

Did all the shitposters go to bed?

Are the Journey to the Force Awakens books worth reading? How about the whole TCW series? Cause man that show seems long as fuck and I thought Rebels would be a bitch to catch up on.

It seems like Before the Awakening reveals a lot of character and political backstory that otherwise is untouched-like that T-85 X-wings are a thing, Rey has a flight sim in her AT for fun, etc.
>>
>>44479444
Someone had a really good deckplan floating around of it. I think it even had a toilet.
I think so

>>44479446
Rebels is only a season and a half so far. TCW has some semi-official recommendations of what you should watch and also it's not in chronological order, which makes me twitch.

Out of the JtTFA books I've read, Weapon of a Jedi was good. Aftermath caused..... stuff. It has some vital information on the political and military landscape of the galaxy, but caveat emptor and all that. Shattered Empire was enjoyable but I kind of doubt that anything's going to make a come back. Not even Force Trees, unless Marvel knows something we don't.

There's also a book about the Battle of Jakku, Lost Stars I think. I hear it's enjoyable.
>>
>>44479359
I don't have an imperial shuttle unfortunately. That rebel list looks like a blast though. If you're still bored I'd love more lists. We'll probably end up playing them.
>>
>>44479444

I've had enough die on me in the planning stage to say amen to that one
>Also, does anyone have any good deckplans for the VCX-100
not that I know of?
there's some site with a ton of them, but I can't remember the name
probably
also, I deliberately left the title off and used a not especially star wars looking at first glance image to make it slightly harder for them to find this thread. every bit counts, right?

X-Wing Comparison.png

Looking at the points, the Old X-Wing is kind of lacking. Only way it could stack up is it it could somehow gain access to two Modifications, Shield and Engine Upgrade, for seven points, and it still doesn't get the extra maneuvers and Tech slot (though Tech seems like a free slot for TFA releases, a unique upgrade slot to distinguish their future gear). That or the T-70 is undercosted, though it just seems efficient to me.

But is it simply unpalatable in the face of its successor, or just a kind of bad ship like the Scyk?

>>44479444

Hopefully it's their bedtime.
>>
>>44479518
I know some people who house rule the old X-Wings to have 1 additional Hull.
>>
>>44479506
Now see, THAT I can't condone in good conscience. If your film script can't stand on its own without outside information, then it's not doing its job.

While yes, it's nice to have some more character depth and saying 'here's what x-character knows', it's be more efficient to have it contained in the movie. That's why the Southland Tales is so baffling, because it's technically half the story, but the other half isn't shedding any light.

Of course, I only saw TFA once, so I'm not qualified to say 'this element could have used more foreshadowing' or 'that scene should have been cut because it ruins the pacing' or even the old 'you went with THAT line read?'

Do I need to watch TCW before Rebels? I know the general plot for TCW, and I really don't care for the clone wars that much as a setting.
>>
>>44479529
Integrated Astromech is basically that.

The actual problem is more meta-related, in that everyone and their brother has easy access to movement actions.
>>
>>44479577
No, actually. Rebels is pretty self-contained and the only crossover characters are the three clones and Ahsoka and it's not like they aren't mentioned or you've never heard of them.

Fair warning: Rebels starts out a little rough but gets better as it goes, much faster than TCW did.

The old X-wing (and Y before titles) suffers a lot from action economy-there's just not a lot it can do with its action bar. Not an intentional imbalance but something that probably resulted it from being one of the first ships to be released. So named X-wing pilots, most which seem to still be relevant, (I love the Wes+Wedge+Opportunist combo) and bandit squadron/blue squadron see a lot more use than any rookie or red squadron pilots. I haven't flown Poe or Asty yet, but Wedge is still one of my go-tos, and Biggs and Garven both have been getting new life flying alongside my new K-wing.

Could work, give them some added durability, though Integrated Astromech does some of that, allowing you to ditch the bucket-head to discard a damage card. Can be taken by T-70s, but everyone is going to be slapping Autothrusters to theirs instead.

Still, even the T-70 grabs an EPT on their generic+ pilot, that seems like something that should have happened. Looks more like the T-65 is suffering from balancing issues, being one of the first ships out. TIE is still okay comparatively because it has a bunch of other TIE pilots to synergize and help it.

Absolutely awesome ship, 10\10, would haul TIE's with

I had an NPC in one of my games who was a weequay space don quixote, who skipper'd a goazanti as a Q-Ship

Also, my player party in the CR90 has gotten pretty good at killing them - I dropped a vindicator on them last session - they pissed themselves and ran after it took half their health in one turn

There's plans to buff it eventually, like they did with the A-wing and Tie Advanced. There's really no point taking non-unique pilots for it right now due to it being a bit outclassed, but its named pilots are still way up there in usefulness. Wedge is still a contender for best pilot in the game and probably always will be.

On one hand, I do like that it shows that Disney is treating the EU far more tightly than LucasArts did before. On the other hand, you're absolutely right-Instead of saying "I don't know," Rey could have said, "I've been flying on sims for years" after the Falcon/Tie chase, and it does seem to be a real easy cash in for Disney-if you want the complete experience, buy X, Y, and Z novels!

My PCs love it, they sprang for one rather than the higher-crew requirement CR90 for a Contribution rank. They've actually turned the sucker into a Q-ship (which the Gozanti is half-way to already, all it's guns are retractable or internal) with integrated hangar so it can just pop Heavy-95s from inside, maybe host some more externally.

I liked it before it was appropriated by Rebels as the logical deep insertion TIE platform/budget saver model. Heavy armor, heavy armament, and modifiable enough to overcome the weaknesses of its engines.

>"Mandalorian Position"
>You see this, Ezra? This is a BlasTech DL-44. Fifty years since BlasTech released the first model and they're still making them. It's a real gem of a blaster pistol. First of all, the feeding ramp is polished to a mirror sheen. It's not going to have any feeding problems. The slide's been replaced with a reinforced version. It meshes perfectly with the frame. The frame itself has been beskar-welded and scraped down multiple times for maximum precision. The front strap part of the frame has been checkered to make it dig into the hand. That prevents any slipping. The sight system's original, too. It's a 3-dot type. It's got an enlarged front sight, giving it superior target sighting capability. The regular Heter's been replaced with a ring Heter. That enhances the cocking control and the laser charge speed. They also reworked the grip safety to accommodate the ring Heter. They eliminated it altogether. This is a tool for pros. The guy who made this is a professional. No question--this thing could shoot a one-hole at 25 yards in a machine rest.

Stupidest of reasons, really

I was a huge traviss mando weeb, and I had decided that Filoni's peacenik mando's was the reason traviss ragequit writing star wars stuff - considering her was my favorite author at the time...yeah

However, the mando's in TCW were straight from George, and they actually work rather well in the narrative (if you see them as a star wars version of post-ww2 japan), so I don't even dislike the concept anymore (still a bit upset that Open Seasons got wiped)
And traviss was a cunt, and she was the only reason she stopped writing, it wasn't really anyone elses fault

well hey, at least you recovered, anon
honestly, I think a fusion of traviss and TCW mandos would be best; you have the glasslands pacifists who the republic deals with because they're actually a coherent polity, you have the old-school traviss-ish boys living out in fuck-nowhere on the unglassed side of the planet and out on concord dawn and such, but they don't really do much collectively, aside from operating MandelMotors.
then you have the crazy death watch fucks who nobody likes but is the most willing to go to guns

that's how I do mandos in my stuff, and I think it's about the best way to fit everything together

I still operate it as three factions
>Jaster's SuperCommandos - wannbe honorable mercenaries because they don't want to the change the culture, don't want to be pacifists, don't want to be a bunch of pillaging dick bags. Big into doing the Journeyman Protector thing, as wandering sheriffs

>New Mandos, who are basically post-ww2 japanese, got the planet (it was shit anyway), and represent the mandalorian people embracing peace as a philosophy of higher cooperation with the galaxy

>Death Watch, who refuse to let the culture change, and want to run around being space vikings, making the galaxy fear them - absolutely refuse to let the victors write history, and write them as shits - unwilling to let history forget them.

The problem is, the SuperCommandos got wiped out by the Jedi at Galidran, so now you have only a few scattered remnants (three in any one place that aren't related is rare). The deathwatch got pretty big until the clone wars

The new mando's got slaved out by the empire
>>
>>44480442
I personally divide it like
>Classical Greek Innawoods mandos: not many of them, don't do much on the galactic scale. deathwatch and the supercommandos both try and recruit from these guys, but most aren't having it. they live in the non-glasslands and concord dawn and such. lots were enslaved by the imps, but plenty just kind of went off the grid in their eternal quest to be left the hell alone
>leftover supercommandos. not many of them, after the jedi. basically as you described. focal point of what resistance against the empire there was
>new mandos: live in the glasslands, do the pacifism thing, control what passes for foreign policy and most resources. them and the first group were victims of the empire during the GCW era
>deathwatch: pretty much exactly as you described them

So I have a friend who's played a couple of starter box games of x wing, just the basics without upgrades or actions. What's the best way for me to then help him step up to a small but 'full' game? I was thinking add a proton torpedo to the x wing and upgrade a tie to an interceptor.

That works pretty well.

Every Mando PC I've had in my games has been less then interested in either trying to help the homeworld, or trying to contact other mandos.

One tried to find a mando to help get some beskar, and ran into a death-watch nemesis class enemy - he got wasted in one shot, and left to die on the side of a dusty road in mos eisley - other players got him into a bacta tank before he died.
I tell that story to new players playing mandos - as such they often don't try and find others, and just get by on their own.

Current mando in my campaign married that nemesis deathwatch dudes daughter
>>
>>44480577
Do a learning game for him. This is what I've done for all my friends, it makes it pretty easy to understand.
How does it work? Like so:
>Turn one: maneuvers and shooting only. Range modifications are in on shooting. Colors of moves are irrelevent.
>Turn three: Add in actions. Stress still isn't a thing, so you can use them whenever.
>Turn five: Add in stress from maneuvers.
>Turn seven: give him some torpedoes, let him shoot them.
>Turn nine: lose graciously. Ask if he had fun, and offer to show him some very simple list building for the next game.

It would depend on what this Mandalore was raising the banner for.

Death Watch would join if Mandalore wants blood.

Supercommandos, what's left, would join if Mandalore wants to do something noble, like maybe wage war on a power that the (New?) Republic can't legally touch like the Hutts but are willing to give a reward to anyone who does something about it maybe some weapons and stuff wink wink.

But don't forget that one faction are so fed up with getting their shit kicked that they gave up their guns. Some of them might follow Mandalore, but unless he has a damn good reason, you're not gonna get many of them.

It's basically an Imperial A-Wing.

Guidance chips is pretty crazy especially at zero points. You could put it on a TIE-Bomber, K or Y-Wing and it'd work pretty well. Sure you wont get the crit from that, but if you (for example) put it on Major Rhymer, gave him Extra Ordinance and a pair of Adv. Homing Missiles you've got something pretty nasty.

Kind of a mix of the Death Watch, because he wants to bring the Empire to it's knees in a similar fashion to the Mandalorian Wars. I own a TFA Core Set and a T-70 X-Wing pack. My friend has more disposable income than I do and has Rebel Aces, Imperial Aces, TFA Core, a T-70, and a TIE Advanced.

I want to run the PTL/BB-8/Integrated Astromech Poe with a Comm Relay/R2-D2/Autothrusters "Red Ace." That leaves me with 26 points to spend, and pilots who are PS8 and PS6, respectively.

What is a good fit for this list? Is there a worthwhile T-70 I can fit in here for just 26 points? And if you know of anything good in the boxes my friend opened (besides the PTL, I already made arrangements to swipe one of those) for a potential X-Wing team, feel free. I plan on having an ISB Agent based on CIA/Bill Wilson in my next campaign. He'll announce himself as 'ISB' and he'll be one of the bigger bads after the crew. When a standard squad isn't around, in comes ISB with his special forces Smee and Maimen.

I plan on having a Gozanti be his Wreckage Brother plane, but what kind of personal TIE should he fly? I need something dangerous, but nothing too powerful. Something that'd be given to an up and coming ISB Agent.

BB-8 engine upgrade and push the limit has proven popular

engine is optional
>>
>>44484210
ISB and a TIE? No no no, he gets a Howlrunner, Howlrunner is best Imperial.

Of course, she will be a lonely ship once he dies in the first five minutes of the campaign to introduce the number two of the BBEG
>>
>>44484210
An Interceptor. They're basically just refit line models with some of the fancy stuff from the TIE advanced. Not too fancy, but a cut above the mooks.
>>
>>44484267
Isn't Howlrunner just the codename of a specific TIE pilot?

I was wondering why the hell i've never heard about a loth-cat before. It's from Rebels, that's why. Anyway, it doesn't look quite as predatory as an animal should be for that mans "namesake", but to each his own. Names are hard, man.

Yes
>>
>>44484419
Given that kotor 2 never had a sequel and never will, we will never know. Certainly he was pragmatic enough to be a good leader, but truth is the mandalorians are pretty much goners by then. Even with his mission to rebuild the mandalorians and prepare for the coming evil threat from the unknown regions, they've lost too much to be a factor in the larger scheme. He's definitely good enough for leading his people to a new world (away from dxun), but they are simply too few in numbers to be relevant, if ever, for many generations.
Not to mention they need to rebuild an industrial infrastructure from scratch.
>>
>>44484564
Damn, misread that as "was he a good Mandalore" not mando. Yes, canderous was definitely a good "mando"
>>
>>44482245
to answer THAT question, first we'd have to figure out who Big Boss is
>>
>>44484077
Play a Verpine, as for spec it depends on how combat-heavy you expect to be and whether you want the Force or not.

If you want the Force and you want to be able to kick ass go Armorer, if you don't want to be too fighty take Artisan as your start spec

Same for non Force things, Technician or Mechanic depending on if you want non-fighty or fighty respectively

What's the cheapest way to get the Autothruster upgrade in X-Wing? I play Empire almost exclusively and never plan to play Scum, so I'm a little miffed Soontir will have to do without unless I drop $20 on a ship I'll never use.

Power creep: the dial.

Seriously, >>44482901 is on the money, it shouldn't have a BETTER dial than the Advanced.
>>
>>44485122
Power creep seems to be the running theme of wave 8 between the Ghost and this. I'm sure the scum ships are about to reveal some "must haves, buy 4" once their article gets around to bring shown.

On the other hand, the VCX in the RPG is lackluster.

I wonder what's up with that.

It's really strange since, up till now, things have been remarkably balanced even with the constant additions.
>>
>>44479728
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen Rule34 on her. Huh.
>>
>>44485501
Maybe they think these things are balanced, to other post-fix ships.

I mean, we're going to need SOMETHING to take on the 102% Defender menace.

RPG doesn't need power creep. People will use substandard choices if they are presented cool enough.
>>
>>44485550
i can only find the same 5 or 6 images of her. and the rest is real low quality..
>>
>>44485501
Well making it a shittier tie adv would be hard when without the title it's a complete piece of crap and the worst ship in the game.

In any case the new mod does seem built for balance. It's to give missiles more life where as currently they're pretty dang ignored just like how Sabine is made to make bombs way better. Just a shame you only get one on this weird one off ship.
>>
>>44485688
Literally all it needs as a fix is to lose the 1-straight

Punishing One has two copies.
>>
>>44485737
>>44485688

Seems to be a running theme these days, with the T-70 only having one copy of Integrated Astromech.
>>
>>44485688
If the tie advanced is shit, then reprint it with proper errata and bring it up to speed. That is, assuming it's not due to power creep in the first place.
>>
>>44485717
It doesn't have a one strait... is it gives by your definition then?
>>
>>44485853
Huh, I guess it doesn't.

Really wish they'd post reference-card-style move grids instead of round dial images. Not that bad then.
>>
I'm trying to think of a good upgrade for Valen Rudor, and right now I'm beginning to think he actually might make a good candidate for Expert Handling.

The secondary effect of the EPT means he can combo-break a couple of things like Redlines ability and Fire Control Systems. Plus, with Boost he can potentially arc dodge his way out of Gunner shenanigans.
Also, his ability isn't once per turn, so he could potentially boost out of one and then barrel roll even further.
>>
>>44485773
You can't just retroactively change the ships stats or movement dial. The best you can do is make new pilots to fix it's dial like juno eclipse and give it exclusive mods for more power like x1. Two things they did.

I'm ok with this, it's better in maneuverability but not as good as juno, but it can't take the fire power upgrade the x1 offers.
>>
>>44485975
>but it can't take the fire power upgrade the x1 offers
I guarantee you at least one person will bite this hook.
>>
>>44485975
>You can't just retroactively change the ships stats or movement dial.
Yes, you can. You print a new run of the ship with the proper updates and ban the old one in tournaments (or leave it alone, whatever).

This is something other miniature and card games do just fine.
>>
>>44486123
And their players bitch about it constantly, and it's a logistical nightmare for stores that stock their products. I'd rather have FFG find creative fixes and package them with ships I would have bought anyway.
>>
>>44486238
Most of those other games are doing just fine and holding positions in the top five sellers for years. It's mostly people who don't buy the product anyway that bitch.

None? I just came to shitpost with him!

Now, on to a not-shitpost post. Besides the inquisitors, which high ranking positions deal with jedi in the empire? I know anyone who finds a jedi under their nose needs to start dealing with it, but i mean people who specifically have tracking jedi as their job description. The players are not important enough to attract proper inquisitors and stuff yet, but the empire is investigating them.

Imperial Intelligence and the ISB both handle this sort of this. Inquisitors, Hands, and miscellaneous Dark Jedi are technically in II employ, although often they maintain their own hierarchies, and all of those are heavily involved in Jedi investigations.

Home One for Akbar, and grab yourself 3 more corvettes for Rebels.

For Imps, Two ISDs, maybe a Glad or two.

The fighter sets are cool also for lower point battles.

Why was Kylo smacking his wound?
Was it to turn the pain blunt so he could bear it easier? Or was it an attempt to get that girdle of his to seal over the wound and hold his insides inside?

OR was he trying to use the pain to fuel his anger and pull him into the darkside after his moment of doubt?
