Sunlight stabs over the mountaintops, light finally touching your valley. Ice thaws and snow melts. Life returns with a fury, brush grows thick and vibrant before being devoured by massive herds of buffalo and Mammoth.
The wolfs are nowhere to be seen, your tribe will have to have its vengeance another day. From your watch house your sentinel shouts down to your tribe.
The Homunculi are coming.

Welcome back to Giants on Ice!

I was going to run it now, but it was all the way on page 6, I thought nobody was interested or seen it

It does appear to be a slow night. I wouldn't want to run things myself since I'm not one of the regulars

Its alright, as I normally do when the thread doesnt get all the attention I expect, I stay around to answer any questions and take suggestions. Speaking of, Q&A thread I guess!

I thought it was at four! So I vanished after not seeing it. Oh well life happens. Can't be mad at OP

>>

That was the plan, I had to do a bunch of stuff around the house.
I hate not being on time for things.
Your roll was for what again? We can probably iron it out right now

Damn I was really hoping for some good ole fashioned Giant diplomacy.

Prerequisite to that is getting the knowledge and set up for it from the Homuns. We tried smithing on our own and...it doesn't work

We also only have 2 turns of food
>>
>>37472375

>>37472406
We ran home, a hunter died from a wolf attack, a bunch of others got badly fucked up. Children started playing "Hunter" and were getting badly hurt from basically hunting eachother, so we started having them fight under watch of the older giants. Iron mine is making people violently sick. Deep cavern is sweating slime and its walls feel like rushing water. Spring has sprung!

Grulin steps from the mouth of your cave. Pleasant smile on his face. "Hello Giant-kin! We have come on first light of Spring to bring our thanks." With a calm waving gesture towards your cave, every human steps silently forward. Upon each back rests a massive basket. "We noticed a lack of farmland and suspected you would soon suffer from malnutrition." Opening one of the huge baskets they reveal them brimming with fruits and vegetables. "They were difficult to grow during winter. We hope this is enough to show our thanks for your help." All the Homunculi smile up at your giants, their serfs quietly eyeing the ground.

"...Protection, I think winter showed us both how much reliable protection could serve you well." Grulin seems quite pleased with himself, grey beard parting from a wide smile.
After what seems to be a moment too long of silence, the Homuncili respond as one in that eerie way they do. "Protection would serve us just fine." Holding up his tiny blue hand up to Grulin to shake. It vanishes under the massive hand. "I will view your land, the rest must return." One of the Homunculi steps forward, the others already turning to leave.

>Irrigation will be part of all farms.

"Do you think you will be able to return later in the year? We may require your guidance again." The Homunculi thinks for a moment.
"Naturally, so long as your Tribe is able to serve its roll as our protectors." With that they turn and walk towards their home in silence.

Your hunters split, sending a heavily laden duo back towards the cave, leaving 3 Hunters to investigate the shouts. Hefting their clubs the search the mountainsides, following the sounds. Soon an uncomfortably familiar sound greets them. A low, discordant din of gibberish washes across the rock faces.
Rounding a mountainside your Hunters halt in their tracks. One of your lost hunters stands over the body of his brother, broken club in hand. Shouting and roaring at the massive, undulating green beast before him. Questing tendrils snake towards your hunter, eyes fixated on its every move. Your lost hunter is breathing heavily, blood streams down his left arm, mingling in the pool of his downed kin.

A roll of Giant gibberish rolls from The Green, loud and unsettling one of your hunters drops to their knees, vomiting. The other two draw their arms back, letting fly their stones and shouting for The Green's attention.
The stones barely register as The Green roils in place, long hooked tentacles dart out towards your Hunters, ensnaring the downed one and grazing the other two.

Your two remaining Hunters turn and flee. Tears sting their eyes as their abandoned kin roar their defiance in the face of The Green. Before they leave the mountainsides those same roars becomes cries of pain and confusion. When they relay the news to the tribe several break down in tears. Children pull at their mothers clothing, asking why they weep.
Deep in the mountainside one of your Giants works with a fury, by the end of the week her hands hold a weapon unseen by your tribe. (+1 Crystal Hateblade) Its Quartz edge is an unusual crimson, the blood of its maker used to sharpen and hone it. She hands the blade to Grulin, hands thickly bandaged and eyes cast down. Asking only that it be used to slay what took her sons.

The Children have grown, from childbirth in the deep of the Long Dark their jaws are sharply angled, pale skin housing dark, aged eyes. The elders decide its time to teach everyone the basics of war. (Despite having no future training) All the young are given Hardwood clubs for their spars. Weekly they are split into teams and set upon each-other. There are injuries but no fatalities. Blood is commonplace among your tribe.
Your craftsmen pour hours over carefully growing Ice Quartz into blades of all sizes. From small daggers (Still larger than most Small-kin would struggle to wield) to viscous axes they forged before.

Your Tribe sets to clearing farmland. Tearing up the thick brush is hard and time consuming but, in the stoic nature thats the hallmark of your tribe, they work from sun up to sun down every day. After a week a sizeable plot of flat land is cleared. Digging into the light soil with massive hands your giants dig long trenches towards the ice runoff for irrigation. A day later and lines are dug and seeds are dug from vegetables, the whole cache is destroyed in this, their remains left to rot. (1 Large farm ready, harvest should be ready in fall)
Your hunters have a similar hunting session as before, wary for voices on the wind they come across a herd of buffalo. Moments laters they return home, laden with a dozen kills.

Fix Lobster Traps

So when should we approach the Homuns about them relocating their village closer to us. Not right against our doorstep but close enough that if we have to defend them during the Long Dark we won't lose too much time getting to them
>>

Your tribe is tired of eating raw meat and sets out to gather wood to rectify this issue. Ripping down hardwood trees takes time but the payoff is well worth it. (+45 Hardwood)

>>37475420
Your Giants set about digging up the soft clay by the Ice runoff. After only a week of harvesting one of your Kin gets an idea. Spending a week working by the runoff he builds a small shed by the waterside. The clay is pressed into the gaps of the Hardwood and some of the brush is placed atop its roof. In another week the storeroom is finished, a proud Giant standing beside it. (+75 Units of Clay, +1 Storehouse.)

You send out a group of Giants to speak to the Homunculi, Jyoti goes with them. After 3 days walking they draw upon the quiet village. Humans scurry about its streets in perfect silence. The trio of Homunculi can be spotted among them, carrying baskets or hauling carts along side their human serfs. Seeing your emissaries they abandon their labors and move to meet you on the edge of town. "HO and greeting, Giants! We did not expect to see from you so soon!"

Tell them of the new Green and suggest the idea of them moving closer. Also ask why we've never once seen the humans speak.
>>

Oh Hooray!... Didn't see the pastebin link today. I also can't find it in this thread.
>>
I suppose it's possible the Homos have cut the hooman's tongues out or something. Eek.

But yeah, inform them of the Green as leverage to move closer to us.
>>
>>37475822
"Another Green beast has been found in the mountains. We wish to offer you moving towards our home. We do not want to see the same fate befall you again."
The Homunculi look at Jyoti as if he just spoke madness. "Giants, as you can clearly see we have homes here, farms and livestock and families and orchards! Surely you can not expect us to simply pack in decades of our lives and move to your lands!" They motion to the largest building in their village, the stone house made especially for your hunters when they assisted in winter. "If anything we would ask you move here, your tribe has no permanent structures made of stone and mortar. While your fields are newly made surely they could easily be recreated here?" They speak with the same level sureness they always have. Behind them the humans move quietly about their labors.

Ask the about more knowledge of our surroundings, maybe a nice map
>>
Rolled 87 (1d100)

>>37475992
Are the Green things a new menace? What did their research of the dead one turn up?

We can't protect you properly without you being close at hand. We can help transport everything they would need with our brute strength and our mammoths
>>
>>37476166
Even if they don't move, they could probably give us some supplies for the trip. If we're going to keep a check on things and take out the predators, the least they could do is make the travelling easier for us.
>>
Another option is to ask them for a doctor so that we don't die protecting them.
>>
>>37476230
Or some of the humans to accompany us. The last thing we need is to die out protecting them while they keep growing in number.
>>
>>37476260
Yah... We hate humans though. Not sure how that'll work
>>
>>37476100
>>37476066
"We once had... Issues with humans. How do you do you keep them so... Well lead?" Jyoti tries his best to tactfully ask.

Raising one eyebrow the Homunculi speak "We lead them because we saved them. We teach them to listen and they listen. When we give them instructions they do ask they are asked."

Jyoti nods, his brow furrowed "I cant help but wonder if The Green are a new threat to you and your people? If it is you surely know now the danger it presents-"
"We are well aware of its dangers last time since last time, that is why we reached an agreement with your Tribe, protection for teaching on agriculture. A fair deal, dont you agree?"
"Yes, but surely we can protect you better if you were clos-"
"We will not abandon our homes." They motion towards the massive stone house. "This was built to house the guards we expected to have sent from your Tribe weeks ago. Instead it stands empty. We upheld our part of the bargain, we hope you intend to do the same regardless of where our homes are." The Homunculi speak with a tone that is both indignant and frustrated. Something seems to upset them, surely it couldnt have been your offer?

Modding Jyoti lets out a deep breath. "I understand, we will set a guard here and rotate them out every week, is this agreeable to you?"
The Homunculi immediately nod in agreement. "Thank you, we apologize for being so short with you." They close their eyes for a moment "Sadly we do not have any goods to send you home with this time, the first harvest should be in late spring... 14 sunrises." Your party turns and leaves. 2 Giants remain in the village. "We hope your stay is a calming one." The Homunculi say, before 2 of them set off towards the humans, leaving one silent Blue-skin to accompany your Giants.
