I feel like USMC regs are reasonable though, since they always want to present that immaculate dress blues and service uniforms to civilian eyes, and that includes showing the skin on your lower arms and neck for the charlies. Anywhere tattoos are not allowed to be shown in the Corp are the same places they will be frowned upon in most workplaces.
It's stupid, but tattoos are still not completely socially accepted yet, and the military and government especially are very slow moving when it comes to adopting change. The way I see it, your shoulders, upper biceps, entire chest, abs, back, etc, should be more than enough canvas for your ink.

I just find it rather disappointing that that is a problem in this day and age. like I understand bans on tattoos on the face or neck and even back of the hands. I just find it hard to believe that myself or any other marine can really take the regulations seriously especially when there are tons of people who we look up to as marines (just about everyone wants to be their drill instructors when they grow up) and yet they aren't meeting standards. Furthermore these people are getting denied promotion on the basis of tattoos despite being good marines. All its doing is hurting the institution in the name of maintaining it's image.
