The second that Irene's out of sight, I feel a hand on my shoulder. It's no surprise though, as its size and weight and the sensation of the hard nails that extend just past those soft fingertips are something that I'm more than familiar with by now. And even if I -didn't- recognize the way that her hand feels, it was already more than obvious that she'd be the first person to say something once things died down.
"Cecile-" Charlotte's voice cuts through the air as she physically turns my body around so that I'm facing her.

Current Irene might not be anything like the Irene that brutally soul-murdered OtherIrene. She might have only become all good and god-fearing AFTER she killed her host to become a real human bean.
That said, I don't really blame her. It was presumably shank or be shanked, and Branch-Irene didn't ask to be trapped as a disembodied voice inside another person's head any more than Original-Irene asked to have a crazy split personality trying to eat her soul. If we had known Original-Irene then sure, maybe we'd vaporize her in retribution and that would also be justified, but we didn't so no sense in crying over someone else's spilled milk.

Before things can get any more uncomfortable, Irene makes it over to where we've been babysitting the fat arsonist and hands him over to the cops. I guess they know her on account of when the Tree of Life officially stationed her here, and thanks to that they don't ask any questions about why three known kidnapping victims were the ones to help her catch said arsonist.
Not that I'm complaining, it's less work for me to deal with.

It isn't quite the same because in a "only one may live" situation, a non-person (no connections with other humans, essentially pulled out of the ether to piggyback on a real person's life) obviously doesn't have the same objective right to exist as the original human, barring extenuating circumstances like the original human being literally Hitler.
Problem is, if Irene didn't kill her host she probably would have been killed herself, and now that she's a real person who isn't literally Hitler she certainly has a right to exist, so you can't really say she wasn't justified in fighting for her right to be not dead.

And so, it turns out that the taxi's final stop is my house. After Charlotte pays the cabbie, we walk up the front steps and I unlock the door. Fortunately, nobody's there to tease us when we walk inside.
After the night I've had, I'm really not in the mood for any of that.

As me and Charlotte are taking off our shoes, I notice Mom peeking her head into the hallway.
"Good evening, Mrs. Navarre," Charlotte says to her.
"Hey," I mumble unenthusiastically.
"Hey," she replies with much more energy than I can be bothered to pull together. "I wasn't expecting you to bring company over this late at night."
"Charlotte's spending the night," I reply.
Silence.
"Uh..." I clear my throat and try again. "Would it be okay with you if Charlotte spent the night?"
"Hmm," my mother adjusts her glasses. "I'm not sure if it's at all appropriate for my underaged daughter to be sharing a b-"
"I meant on the couch," I sigh.
"In that case I have no objections whatsoever~!" she chirps. "I hope your stay at our humble abode is a pleasant one, Charlotte!"
"Umm, thanks," Charlotte replies with a pained smile.

Once my mother's fixed up a bunch of sheets and blankets and pillows and all that so as to make Charlotte's night on my couch a more pleasant one, I make my way upstairs and into my room. After saying good evening to my cute plant babies (but making sure NOT to touch the catnip), I head over to my dresser and rummage around for a nightshirt for Charlotte to wear.
"Dammit..."
Annoyed, I walk over to the chair that I usually throw stuff on when I'm feeling too lazy to put them away.
"This's the one I was wearing this morning," I mumble to myself, tossing it over my shoulder so I'll know where it is. "...and I think this one is clean."
Yup, still smells fresh.

I fold it up all neat-like and then make my way downstairs to the living room. Charlotte's waiting patiently for me, and it looks like she's already emptied her pockets onto the ottoman while she was waiting for me.
"Here you go," I say, holding out the nightshirt.
"...what's this?" Charlotte looks at it with a blank expression.
"Something to sleep in?" I shrug. "Since I'm pretty sure you don't want to wrinkle up your dress."
Charlotte takes the nightshirt from me and holds it up like she's inspecting it.
"........." she tilts her head and purses her lips.
"You don't like it?" I ask.
"It's not that," she shakes her head.
And then snatches the other one from off my shoulder.
"I'll use this one instead," she says, tossing me the one that was apparently not good enough for her.
"But that one's-"
"I like this one better," she cuts me off. "It smells like you."

After much embarrassed stammering on my part, I give Charlotte a quick kiss goodnight and hurry back to my room before anyone can see me making a fool of myself. From there, I turn off my bedroom light (night vision is super useful), change into my own -fresh- pajama shirt and bury myself under my covers.
"...oh yeah."
Exposing my head(to see) and an arm (to grab things) to the cool night air, I fumble around until I find my phone. Just for peace of mind, I should probably send Irene a reminder before I finally pass out.
"dont 4get 2 com bak hom," I type. "ttu @mornin, gudnite."
After hitting send, I bury myself back under the covers and succumb to the warm embrace of sleep.
Another late thread... but this is what happens when I have a speficic place that I want to end on.
