MFZ bro checking in! Just reorganized some stuff into a bigger tacklebox/sewing box holder. Christ, when you get deep into LEGOs it's tough to keep track of stuff.

I'm about to deconstruct a few things and have a friend over tomorrow for a demo. Time to build the construction-frame theme I've been wanting to do.

Do you guys build to have the frames stand on their own, or on a base? I'm contemplating getting a few 5x5s and 7x7 plates to make bases, that way I can incorporate some terrain and have them be more sturdy.

Follow-up, how do you transport your armies?

Third follow-up, what condensed rules do you guys use to help demo for new players? I found a text-only condensed (no lore, no builds, just the rules) but it's still kinda hefty because of large print and stuff.
>>
We used to have lots of threads about a year ago, but many players, including me, were disillusioned by the lack of depth and, ironically, customizaton. So most got bored and moved on.

I'm still a total newfriend at this, but I prefer frames that stand on their own, and if possible maintain some posability. I like setting displays and having them pose with terrain. In fact, terrain is almost as fun as the frames!

I've seen people but Styrofoam container designed for warmachine/warhammer to transport, but that seems like overkill.

Yeah, I can see that. Despite how open the rules are on builds, it is a it limited. I think a slightly larger scale would help, and some old fashion /tg/ homebrew.

I do wish they'd incorporate Advanced rules with like 8 different options for systems, but otherwise the game's simplicity is no less appealing to me than the simplicity of chess. Every game is still different. Except, you get to run scenarios and make your own pieces in this game.

/tg/ doesn't really do MFZ threads anymore, as the anon above said. But get on the Facebook MFZ group, and Mobile Frame garage forums. Occasionally you can make threads here and have them be productive.

I think I'm going to give the base thing a try this go around. Outside of quadrapeds, I think bases would be great help.

If that's one of yours you better be shouting out the line when you use it.

I wish I had the skills of Zizy. He's a famous Japanese builder of giant mecha LEGO stuff. MFZ uses a lot of his joint designs and draw big inspiration from him. He's a crazy person.

So you have a link to this guys site or blog or whatever?

/tg/ should just redo the game.

Wasn't there a half-completed attempt at overhauling the MFZ system?

I'd be interested in this. Give it a workover and rename it?
Anyone got any info? I can't seem to find anything on search

>Balanced around 3 players.
Never understood this and it's totally a terrible design choice.

He's got a few books done up on Amazon.
>>
There used to be regular threads. Did they ever make the rulebook less trash? Did that one guy ever finish the condensed version?
>>
>>43973007
Somebody was doing a condensed rule book because the regular was is really not good. Probably still floating around somewhere.
>>
>>43974300
Those threads became a lot of armchair theorycrafting. Its a cool game, but nobody plays it.

No point rehauling rules if you don't have any playtesting to get feedback on whether the changes make it better or not.

All the lego porn was nice though.

It's meant to be a asymmetrical game. You're not supposed to annihilate the enemy, you're supposed to have the most points when the time limit runs out.
The dynamics are close to a Eurogame than a wargame, which is counter-intuitive as it's otherwise very wargamey.

Honestly while the rules themselves had problems, I feel like the formatting was what really killed it. Was there any reason it was in such a weird size? It seemed like everything had to be really spread out.
Posting some old frames, I think this one got re-used for lego quest!

/v/ like VB a lot. /v/ just hate dungeon world, Which he isn't even responsible for. Some just uses he's system to make a fairly boring simplistic version of dnd.

You can't overhaul it, you'd have to throw it all away and start from the ground up.

The appeal of MFZ is that it's so simple anyone can learn to play in 10 minutes and then turn around to teach someone else.

It's simplicity is it's weakness. The game itself is uninteresting because certain systems are better than others and the customization is purely aesthetic.

Frankly, those threads became a circle jerk clique of pretentious assholes. People got tired of it and stopped showing up. That's why it died.
