Hm, it's been a while since I've read the homebrew book. As in, last I read it Braindead semen-slave catboys were in.

Let's see:

Races
>Races aren't all fucking retarded anymore
>Goliath is size 6 and has a power as well. Great. (That was sarcasm)
>Overall too many monsterous races. At best, people need to put the monstergirl porn down. At worst, people need to put the furry porn down. I won't say anymore about it. Options are good after all, but too many seem contradictory in design with each other, like how Arachne's and Lamia's lower halves work. (Hint: one changes how hit locations work for them, the other doesn't)

At least there isn't three lizard-people races in this book anymore. And at least the number of races with size 5 is no longer every race.

Exaltations
>Overdesigned. If you need to drop to... however small the text on the powers are for most of them, they're overly complicated. The only two new exaltions that aren't obnoxiously over-designed are the Kryptonian and the Perpetual

Guardian gets my seal of "Fuck off, your concept is flawed if that's the text size needed to fit it into 2 pages"

Hell, there's a general trend of over-emphasizing Exaltations in character creation. They're being designed like DnD or Pathfinder classes: the whole sum or the majority of the the character's mechanical chassis. What they should be designed like is ultra-simplified nWoD splats: They shape his day to day life, they represent what he is, but not who he is or what he does. It's kind of embarrassing to read some of them.

There's also (only slightly) a constant attempt to balance the new exaltations around the Atlantean and Daemonhost levels. They're the most powerful Exaltations and building to be balanced with them is bad to the game. It leads to power-creep and a design arms race.

Don't design for the top. Design for the middle. OR just under the top if you absolutely must be super-awesome.

I'll be covering them individually because jesus christ.
>>
Another update should be coming to Book 3 in about an hour or that deals with some minor corrections. Just sit tight and read/discuss what's on the forums until then.

We finally have a wrestling sword school. Yayyy.

>>43884432
>three lizard-people
Wait, was that a thing? I don't remember that. I do remember catboy fucktoys, which thankfully are gone forever.

DEATHKING
Name's stupid. And it's edgy as fuck. Go with DOUBLE AND A HALF VAMPIRE ARCHELICH. Far less edgy.

Powers are actually okay. Nothing too bad. Shunned by the living doesn't list a difficulty for the disguise roll. Horcrux is actually pretty over-written considering that Hero Points are a thing. Trap the Soul is kind of neat actually. Giving the spirit-mentor asset is kind of unneeded/unwanted.

Necrosis is kind of okay. It's not too high of a resource max. The hour-gain is fine, but the 3 dots for meditation is a bit over-kill. Resource restoration is always limited in someway. Either it's action based or interval based. Action based restoration requires your character act a certain way but give you better access to resource if you do so. Interval though lets you act how you want but limits your resource gain. Offering both is a bit of variety that most exalts don't have access to without an asset.

I don't know if that's a good powerful or a bad powerful.

The Necrosis effects though show the overly-wordiness that all the exaltions have. Or worse, excessive mechanics.

Festering ruin is neat and thematic, but has one too many lines to it. Either remove the "wounds are extra hard to heal" line or the "corpses instantly rot away at death." I'd suggest the extra-hard to heal. Energy damage already knocks regen, and it adds too much work to healing in having to track specific health damage as "can't be healed normally" is an annoying piece of bookkeeping that's pointless for NPCs about 75% of the time, and just a dick move on players.

Soul Shield is a (conditional) perfect defense. Spammable if you kill people consistently. And with that first power, you're more likely to do so. Perfect defenses being spammable makes me hate unconditionally.

You need to save as much space as possible. Drop the first line for Grave Authority. Please. Fluff is good and all, but when you have to reduce your text size, please don't add excessive lines.

There was a quick update. This is the newest newest version of Book 3. Mostly identical, with some errors fixed.

The Quick and the Dead has one too many features. The free raise is kind of unnecessary anyway with the strength and dex boost. Can it be stacked multiple times if I spend more rot?

I hope not.

Also it has two lines of extra fluff in a mechanically heavy power.

The capstone is a bit too powerful in my opinion effectively serving triple duty for the effect. It's a bit too cumbersome, too modular, and really, the weapon mod effect is just overkill for the power.

It feels like the writer saw power stat 5 as an excuse to write whatever power he wants without real concern for gameplay. Keep it simple and straight forward.

There's also another issue I have: Souls seem to primarily be used as extra resource in disguise. Since it doesn't say you can't regain the Rot you spent on the soul, you can use it to store extra rot effectively. There's only one power that uses souls. Granted it's amazing, souls are an interesting, but unused design space.

In fact, I'd suggest replacing the capstone with "Release as many Souls as you want. You get a walking dead for every soul released."

Simple. Cool. Thematic. And gives a neat effect for your souls that isn't "Lol nope, you don't touch me. Don't bother picking up the dice."

Fuck perfect defenses. Once a scene at most.

Similar boat for me. My group is interested but already have two games running at the moment.

The problem is really that it's a game from fa/tg/uys for other fa/tg/uys. Unless you are familiar with all the tropes of WoD, 40k, D&D and Exalted that fly around here you are likely to miss a lot of jokes and won't find the overall setting as amazing as others, and a surprising amount of people i play with never even heard of /tg/'s existence

I hope none of my homebrews have made it in-

>tfw one of them made it in
Oh shit I wasn't expecting it to be included, especially with how lacking it is in word count compared to the others (which might be a good thing).

The following is an excerpt that was (thankfully) removed from the Physical Description of Catfolk.

>Oh, and they're just about all women. Some 99.9% of live births produce catgirls, not catboys, and the menfolk are kept at home in the hidden Catfolk settlements. They have to be - they're largely unsapient, barely more than a brain stem, and are kept as holy idiots for breeding. The women, being far more numerous and more physically and mentally capable, are the only face outsiders really ever see.

Yeah. It still got into one version of Book 3 (even though it really should've been noticed earlier), and everyone will remember it forever. As of the newer editions, you can play at male Catfolk if you want.

Does anyone have that 'choose three of the 10 following things to start your game with' list? I thought I'd saved a copy, but I can't find it.

And, since >>43884432 griped about Exaltation power levels: What's the current tier list for Exaltations, power wise?
>>
>>43904872
Found the list.

In a game of Dungeons: the Dragoning 40k 7th Edition, the opening scene must be at least three of the following:
1. On fire.
2. Surrounded by and containing explosions.
3. Full of gunfire and/or deadly lasers.
4. Moving at speeds well in excess of 100 mph.
5. In space (if using option 4 it must be relative to significant collision hazards).
6. Precariously high.
7. Rapidly collapsing.
8. Made of mook corpses.
9. About to be crushed or otherwise obliterated by an angry god or giant space monster.
10. Backed by a soundtrack featuring some corny metal band or Kenny Loggins.
>>
>>43904872
>What's the current tier list for Exaltations, power wise?
I don't think there's an official tier list. Atlanteans and Daemonhosts would be near the top, though.

Is that guy going to review the rest of the new Exalts or what?

Going by just the fluff, I'd say the tier list in-universe to be:

Daemonhosts
Demiurge
Nephilim

Most Exaltations probably fall under here
>Low-Tier
Paragon
Vampire

Again, this is just me going by the fluff. Hopefully an anon better versed in the crunch can provide their own list.

I can't weigh in on the ones from Book 3, but:

>Chosen
Actually having to worry about devotion is a problem. Have to sink a lot more exp into raising their power stat. Only exalt that can potentially lose their power stat and/or abilities if your DM is being a dick.

Paragon: A lot of this boils down to how well you and your DM get along with the stunting system. If you're basically always stunting all the time, hilarious amounts of dice and pressure/action points to be had. If never, yeah, probably comes out at low tier. You do, however, get a lot of pressure points to cycle, once level 2 or 3 hits you can be boosting rolls pretty significantly. The extra hero points also means you're more likely to spend them on things than horde them for stun recovery (at least, that's what my all non-paragon players did with them).

Played a vampire guardsman before book 2 came out. Toreador as fuck, my hobby was running an orphanage to fuck with family trees like they were bonzai, and making up ludicrous prophecies just to make fun new dramatic moments. When book 2 came out, I briefly had fun becoming Revolver ocelot and parrying other bullets with bullets.

Now I'm just forever DM because apparently I need to find my own clones to play this game with people who get the tone and don't just try and play it as Roll and Keep Dark Heresy.
>>
>>43908927
>The Hitch-Hikers Guide
SO, when is someone going to write a book like that to apply to all the fluff thus far? or even a common item entry for the book-slate

might be kinda cool...
>>
>>43907473
Actually, the way I'm reading it, the Chosen are subject to the inverse of the usual paladin issue; that is, they're NOT as subjected to the issue of Devotion as non-chosen.

Mind you, Alignment is still an issue, but I can see some of what the author may have intended.
>>
No really, can anybody explain what is wrong with the Font? It looks okay to me.
>>
Are Fonts even immortal? From my reading of it, the Exalt itself seems to be whatever powers the avatars. It just so happens to be unable to act on it's own without the help of some regular Joe.
>>
>>43910386
Chosen do have more wiggle room on devotion than other exalta but just the fact that devotion is immediately and directly relevant to them is a drawback, an exp sink and if they do lose decotion, potentially blanks exalt abilities. basically they're less likely to lose devotion, but it's a bigger issue if they do

>>43910579
I'm convinced it's a hater, and as the guy curating the font I'd much rather there be legitimate issues raised. of the issues I'm aware of the fluff has been criticised but a) I didn't write it, b) nothing better has been presented and, and c) I know my writing is shitty enough that I'm doing the world a favor by shielding them from my attempts to spruce that particular bit up. I'm a crunch man.

there has been an ongoing argument about the cost of being transformed and what it should be, if anything. there has been no consensus and little playtesting. there may or may not be an issue of having enough resources related to this.

exemplary hero may be OP. that's kinda the point, but shy of OP would be better. again: no playtesting.
>>
>>43910975
strict reading no. less strict reading if you want them to be.
>>
>>43910975
I think of their immortality the same as a paragon's, through stories, legends, and dreams to aspire to.
>>
>>43911151
it could honestly be either or. that's the easy version, but whatever bond their powersource has could make them more literally immortal, prolonging their life and/or youth indefinitely, or until the power is passed on or something. kinda depends on how a specific font is fluffed.
>>
>>43907316
Except not, because transformation is core to the archetype.

Review anon here. I stepped away and kind of forgot.

But here's my review of the DEMIURGE:

I like it. It actually feels like it's an exaltation of its own rather than an over-made refluff or alteration like some of the other ones in this book are.

Absolute territory is incredibly fun concept-wise and thankfully the TN for the willpower test is small enough to still be a factor, but not large enough to be a 'Fuck you' effect. Lowest TN is 8, and the highest it will ever be is 20.

Entropy Flux is pretty nice, but expensive/cost prohibitive. ESPECIALLY with how small the resource pool for the Demiurge is.

Kinetic Manipulation is also pretty thematic and neat, if expensive. It at least really works well. May be the strongest innate power for the Demiurge.

Type Blue is really cool, and is equal parts power and weakness. +20 to warp phenomenon rolls is really fucking scary actually.

Quintessence actually has a really small pool, and its surprising to see with how 'slow' its regain rate is. Makes the demiurge a scary fuck but not an overwhelming one.

And Kingdom of One (Hubris 1) shows why it needs that small pool. Effectively you can survive any real environmental threat and can even grant the same benefits to people within your AT.

Transversal (Hubris 2) is really mean and makes melee demiurges seriously powerful. That AT is getting serious millage already. At hubris 2 this effectively means your melee range is now 8 meters, with AT up. Hubris 5, it's 20 meters.

I can't tell if that's too powerful or fine as it is.

Angelic (Hubris 3) is an armor booster and health booster. Simple and nice.

Light of the Soul (Hubris 4) is pretty neat. An Aura booster and a spell attack. May be a 2 in one feature, I don't know if it's too good or not.

Weep and Bear Witness (Hubris 5) is really cool. It's far from spammable, it's expensive, and it's not too much effect damage wise (except against resilience-tanks). What it is though is cool. It makes me want to use it.

>>43914011

Sexual reproduction? Nigga seriously? Is that the first thing you jump to? Lewd.
>>
Now then: The FONT

This is one of the Exaltations that I consider fluff-wise to be incredibly stupid.

I like Kamen Riders, and I think there should be support for them in this game, but they should not be an Exaltation.

This is one of those fan-Exaltations that conflates what makes them more and what they do.

Look. Not everything you see on TV is an Exaltation.

An Exaltation isn't what you do.

An Exaltation isn't what you wear.

An Exaltation is how you are more than a human.

Kamen Rider 01 isn't a Font. He's a Promethean.

Nanoha isn't a Font. She's an Atlantean.

Kamen Rider Gills isn't a Font. It's a Symbiote.

Madoka isn't a Font. She's a Demiurge.

Kamen Rider Kuga? Vampire.

Fais? Wraith

Sailor Moon? Chosen of herself

Den-O? Fool

Hell, I have roughly similar bitching about the next 3 Exaltations as well. Just because you see it on TV does not mean it's an Exaltation. An Exaltation is how you're more than your race. More than human, or elf, or gnome.

And my complaints on fluff? Nothing compared to the issues I have with the incredibly shitty, and often BROKEN mechanics.

>>
Made a new version of the Roll Out feat for Warforged after getting some feedback. What do you guys think?

Roll Out [Warforged]
With a half action, you can transform into a vehicle to cover more ground. As a vehicle, you have a 100VP budget to spend on base stats, necessary components, and other components. The Size rating of your vehicle form must be your normal Size. Damage does not carry over between forms, but damage that would go to the pilot goes to the Warforged's normal body instead. Items you are holding cannot be stored without Cargo Space. You can purchase this feat multiple times, adding 50 VP to your total vehicle budget each time. While in vehicle form, you are treated as a vehicle, and all vehicle rules apply to you. You can change back to normal with another half action.
>>
>>43915481
Hal Jordan can be a Daemonhost, an Atlantean, or a Chosen depending on what stories you're focusing on. His powers though would be spells, easily.

Captain Marvel is easily a chosen.

An alternate form would be a spell AT MOST. Most likely one that summons your armor and weapon from beyond. OR an artifact trinket that does a similar effect.

>>43914895
So Font Mechanics

The short of it: Good ideas paired with incredibly poorly thought out and frankly over-powered mechanics. And just plain bad ideas.

Avatar Form is one of those good ideas. Except it doesn't even do the kamen rider/toku/magical girl transformation.

No it's actually mechanically FF9's Trance or DBZ's Super Sayan. Mechanically don't summon your Armor or weapon. No, mechanically you have your armor and weapon for combat on and ready and then enter a super mode. So it actually fails at doing what it implies it does.

Signature Style is complete and utter bullshit. No seriously, this right here is complete bollocks and turns a normally really damn good exalt ability and turns it into complete over-powered bullshit. A school or style or kata is already good ESPECIALLY since you can choose ANY. And then combos, special moves and trick shots get a discount? Not just a minor flat discount, noooo a discount that scales. At power 5 Special Techniques and Trick Shots effectively get a 250 xp discount. Chain that with disadvantages and EVERY combo he gets is 50xp for full 10 style.

Let me repeat that. A 10 style technique for only 50xp. No, "but it's power 5 to get that, it's allowed to be broken" is not a good excuse. You can get a max style technique every power range for only 50 xp. And combos get a similar discount as well.

I honestly question if the person who wrote this even understands that one of the biggest surprises of DtD wasn't that it had everything, it was that it had a surprising amount of balance to it. This completely disregards every design assumption of the game for power.

(Cont.
>>
>>43914895
Alright, one of us doesn't understand how techniques work. Why wouldn't you have to pay the XP for the 5 style points from disadvantages? I'm not saying it isn't a strong ability, just don't want a decently thought out argument derailed by a fallacious statement.
>>
>>43917529
>>43917733 has a point, it'd only be half-price at best, looking at the example build in Book 1.
>>
>>43917733
You're correct. Sorry, it's been years (literally) since I've ran an Adept. Still a 50% discount on some of the best things in the game is a MASSIVE power-up.

And that's only for a maxed out move. You can buy a technique for only 50 xp and still get effectively Power Stat style points for free.

This is especially strong with some of the later powers of this Exaltation.

Keep in mind simply getting a Magic School is one of the iconic abilities of the Atlantean, one of the best Exaltations in the first book. This is that, but better variety AND getting discounts.

>>43917529
And then we get to rush of power. +1 to 3 stats and a +1 to resilience while in Avatar state. Now Avatar State requires you to spend a resource every round to keep active. But this is effectively the rider effects of power armor without the disadvantages.

And you can always use power armor with it.

Note, that Avatar state doesn't cost resource outside of the initial payment. No, it's a check if you've used a resource last round or not. All it requires is you do awesome stuff to keep your awesome power-up going.

Add in Power of Friendship for a "I don't kill anyone, oh and you like me more for being beaten by me" effect and a "Hurt my friends and I get an additional round in my avatar state" effect. It's thematic, but takes the limitations and 'weaknesses' of the Avatar state and pretty much makes it so the most common occurrence in combat (people taking damage) and give you massive resource gains. Pretty much the best way to stop it is to only attack the Font. Just wait, that weakness turns out to not be a weakness later.

Now we get to the resource pool. It's simply Charisma+Channel, but you get all of it at the start of combat. Effectively every combat you have that many rounds of being awesome, with an additional round for every time an ally takes damage.

This is like the Demiurge's resource pool with the Dragonblood's rate with the Paragon's return factor at power 2. Jesus.
>>
Now we get to Channel effects.

Burning Spirit (Channel 1) takes that one tactical weakness of Power of Friendship and turns it into effectively a superior form of the Paragon's Pressure ability. Adding lost hp to pretty much every combat roll you make is damn good.

Attack the Font's friends? He gets extra rounds of 'fuck your shit.' Attack him? He gets a constant bonus to most rolls in combat.

Finishing move (Channel 2) takes those discounted moves and gives the two dice when the attack roll or focus power roll has an exploding die. AND the damage rolls explode on 9 and 10. Actually a relatively benign power on its own. It just overly rewards an already excessively powerful state for

Super Mode (Channel 3) takes avatar mode and gives it an extra oomph. Spend a single drop as a free action to get +2 to two additional stats in Avatar form... this means that round one you can enter avatar form and round two activate super mode so you can keep your avatar form up. Then the remainder of your rounds can be with 5 +1's. (Can you double up on stats? If my physical boost for Avatar State be strength and then can I increase Strength with super mode. I'll assume no just because jesus fucking christ no.)

It's just a flat upgrade on Avatar form.

Henshin a-bye-bye (channel 4) is... can I stop talking about this?

Can I please stop.

This entire exaltation is like the DnD 3.5 homebrewed Lightning Warrior. It has the best abilities of multiple exaltations with its own super-powerful stuff tacked onto poorly reasoned flavor.

This isn't even the worst designed exaltation with the weakest excuse for Flavor. No.

I just want to stop. The next three exaltations will just make me sigh audibly reading. I don't even want to talk about them.

I'll come back tomorrow.

>You can skip the Force Sensitive. It's been replaced by the new Parapsyker/Psion. You can read it on the forum.

Okay, thank you. Part of the problem I have is that this is just a lot of content in one book.

It's 5-6 book 2's worth of content. I'd suggest breaking them up into themed books Homebrew or Fanbook 1-whatever. Have 3-4 races, 2 exaltions (and 1 alternate exaltion), a set of themed class tracks, and 1-2 sets of new mechanics like sword schools and new spells.

Fanbook 1: Spooky-things galore
Fanbook 2: Fairies, maids, and bullet hell (where all the Touhou-esque stuff can go)
Fanbook 3: Fall of Heaven
Fanbook 4: I dunno, where all the content like unicorns, gems, and obvious cultural references go.
Fanbook 5: Monstrous Madness

And focus on making these contents well designed before moving onto the next one. It'll help with my sanity in general.

>>43919133
Thank you. The main problem that these exaltations have is that really, they're the second easiest content to brew after races. Almost all of the content for an exaltion is right there, so it can be thrown together on its own.

I know I've been hard on the exaltions, and I'm sure they're someone's baby, but I actually am happy to see homebrewers making stuff. I want to see these get better. I want them to be reasonable. I don't want fan homebrew turn a game that was lightning in a bottle into the fan's version of Rifts design, where it's the GM's prerogative to ensure content released doesn't break his game because the writers didn't have the wisdom to balance the content themselves.
>>
>>43919466
Doc said a while back that he only wants to do one book, if I recall correctly. That means everything that is usable is going into the Homebrew Compendium.

Also, the Kryptonian and some Alt Exalts already got some new updates on the forum, so go there instead when you reach them in the book.
>>
>>43919727
Well, Doc is the equivalent of Kevin Siembieda now.

Great.

I mean, instead of having to constantly update one single PDF document, he can release content in waves of books, meaning that once book 1 is done, you can close it and not have to alter it too much afterwards.

Also keeps the book from being seriously fucking annoying to look through and compare.

He's only making my job harder, and I guess I'll just use the forums instead of a bloated document that just won't stop growing.

I'm gonna be a namefag for a second just to say, I do to. As the guy who put his name on the Font, I just want to say
1) I agree with your sentiment that a lot of transforming heroes can be refluffed versions of an existing exaltation except sailor moon being a chosen of herself. Luna's right there man
2) I disagree with the assertion that every transforming hero fits such a mold. captain marvel's a great example of a character who answers the question inherent in
>An Exaltation is how you are more than a human.
with "i'm not. I can become someone who's more than a human" which I feel is a valid archetype. This is a philosophical difference and I don't really want to argue you over to my side, but I felt it was an archetype worth emphasizing, and wanted to see something good come of it at the time when there were two different henshin exaltations in the book and I didn't feel either delivered on a whole package.
3) NO ONE HAS EVER DONE THIS BEFORE! Oh my god thank you. half of this shit was thrown at the wall, no one objected so I thought it stuck. I don't have a group I can playtest with, I've been eyeballing all of this shit, jesus I can admit I'm no savant at that. This might be the final version of Roll Out, since I think I closed all of the loopholes. Now you can finally play as that motorcycle you always wanted to be.

Roll Out! [Warforged]
You can transform into a vehicle and back with a half action. Your vehicle form has a 100VP budget to spend on base stats and components. The Size rating of your vehicle must be equal to your own. Damage does not carry over from normal form to vehicle form, but when transforming back to your normal form, add your vehicle's damage to your own. If your vehicle's health becomes 0, you automatically shift back to your normal form. Damage that would go to the pilot goes to the Warforged's normal body instead. Held items cannot be stored in vehicle form without Cargo Space. While in vehicle form, you are treated as a vehicle, and all vehicle rules apply to you. You can purchase this feat multiple times, adding 50 VP to your total vehicle budget each time.

Captain Marvel is EASILY a chosen. Of a pantheon.

Shit, " the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury" Hell, he's given this power by one the closest things to Gods in the DC universe.

He gains strength from his ideals and maintaining the virtues he has.

He's a hallmark chosen if there is one.

Just because he has an on-off switch doesn't instantly change him from that.

And regardless if you need the "I'm not exalted until I am," the fluff needs to feel like its adding to the universe. I actually think some of the mechanical design space is really neat, but...

I don't think the fluff trying to be as vague as possible is healthy for the exaltions thematics.

Try and pin the fluff. "I'm not Exalted" is a Paragon design thematic. Calling on a super-mode though, can be an exaltation. I'd suggest making it feel like something you can pinpoint in-universe and not just a collection of genre-conventions. All core exalted, besides Paragons who have "I'm not Exalted, but I'm as Awesome as one anyway," have a clear in universe divide.

Make it where I can in universe say "He's a FONT"

Probably because it had the most drafts and versions of anything in the book.

A lot of what you talk about as expensive has been nerfed heavily, from being originally so open-ended as to be omnipotent.
I'm still a bit butthurt that the grandness of scope was lost, in an earlier draft your absolute territory could get huge and at Hubris 5 you could make new crystal spheres with it.

the reason I'd say they need to be in a different book is so that the GM can keep the files separate from the ones he gives his players for character generation and reference.

Okay, minus ToQgers, I can see them them easily with the mechanics as is.

I'll be perfectly honest, Sentai and most Kamen riders are all gear. The armor being summoned, the weapons being called, all that? Gear, not an exaltion. And that's why I fight for a spell or feat that allows you to store armor elsewhere or whatever and call on it when needed.

That armor that comes in and boosts them to superhuman capabilities and is extremely flashy? Artifact Power Armor (Only 3 background dots in character creation and 100xp. It's getting armor prof in it that's the issue.)

The unique weapons? Artifact weapons.

Flashy signature attacks? The entire sword schools and gun kata sub-systems as well as Spell Combos.

All the tools to make a Toku hero are there except the calling the armor forth factor.

Here's what I got from the Font (outside of genre-conventions as powers)

>Final Fantasy 9 Trance
>Legend of Dragoon's Dragoons
>Viewtiful Joe

With that said, I easily see it as a "I'm a hero, but I can be more."

Now of the one's listed, the one I like most is FF9 Trance. This is described early on as effectively a magical adrenaline rush. The life force and emotions of the person swelling into a state of greater power. Later on it's described as the soul's will to survive.

I'm... not sure how I should feel about that comparison. I'm pretty sure it's not a good one, though, so I'll take slight offense. That said, I apparently had it coming.

Anyway, I can't argue the point of one enormous PDF being cumbersome - moreso when I don't even have the benefit of bookmarks and such when I'm editing the damnable thing. That said, I don't think I care enough to split it into multiple themed PDF's - call it unprofessional or not well designed or whatever else you want, but that's just how I feel.

What I WILL do - if this is a workable concept - is split a hefty amount of sections into separate PDF's - one for races, one for Exalts, one for classes and feats, one for Sword Schools and Gun Kata (and probably magic, at some point), one for gear, and one for the rest (Setting stuff, the updated Dramatis Personae, etc.).

I'm not sure if that's enough to make me not the equivalent of Kevin Siembieda, but I'm hoping it's something. As such, I present you with the first two of such PDF's, bodged together in a couple hours.

LoD is effectively Fantasy Kamen Rider the JRPG. I think you'd really like it. It's a ps1 jrpg that was really cool.

Effectively, they're seven/eight heroes given the power to transform into dragon warriors for a limited time. Mechanically, you can't just enter the state, you fight and act and as your spirit builds stronger you slowly harmonize with the dragon's spirit and can enter your dragoon form.

The reason I picked those three though is that outside of their super-forms, they're still heroes who fight and handle threats on their own. They aren't normal humans who enter their forms to fight exclusively. They're still take on their threats in more mundane ways before blossoming into their power.

I put that there so that people wouldn't turn into stupidly large vehicles. The sample Scorpion Tank in Book 2 can be purchased with 100 VP, and it's Size 12. That's three times the size of your average Warforged.

Oh so kinda like Vampire with a twist?
I.E if I hate two dots in a skill I roll 2D10 to match some score?
>>
>>43925217
Not really

In a skill roll you roll an amount of dice equal to your points in skill. For example, you have four dots in Ballistics and you're shooting someone. Then, you take the highest of the rolls depending on the characteristic the skill uses. In my example, you rolled three dice which resulted in 1, 4, 8, 9; and you only have three Dexterity. So you add the 4, 8 and 9 as the result.

The mechanic is taken from AdEva, I think. (I could be wrong)
>>
>>43925240

I think AdEva was just Dark Heresy's Percentile dice system of rolling underneath your score.

Say I had a BS of 45, I'd need to roll 45 or lower to shoot someone. (There are modifiers like taking an aim action mind you.)

>>
Rolled 5, 7, 6, 1, 5, 2, 2 = 28 (7d10)

>>43925240
Not really.
>>43925324
It's Roll-and-Keep, which has been used in many systems. Seventh Sea has actually had more influence on D:tD than L5R.

You roll a pile of d10s, keep a certain number of them, and add the results all up. For most skill rolls you roll a number of dice equal to Stat+Skill, and keep a number equal to Stat. 10s explode, so for every 10 you can roll another die and add it to the 10

So if I'm trying to jump a chasm, I'd roll Strength+Atheletics and keep Atheletics. Say I have Strength 4 and Atheletics 3, that would be 7k4.
Hre, I'll roll that now.

>5, 7, 6, 1, 5, 2, 2
Pretty poor roll, because /tg/ dice.
Then I keep Strength 4, so the best four are: 5 7 6 and 5. So I rolled a 23.
>>
>>43925486
Not so much making-shit-up all the time. This isn't freeform-forum-game bullshit. But there are explict rules that give awesome things described well a bonus, and any GM should be pretty leniant with rules/fluff interactions.

In my current game we have a Daemonhost with a Daemon Sword flying a Daemon-possessed Spelljammer, and the GM has let him rule that they're actually all the same daemon.

A Fairy Anger-Daemonhost who worships Khorne is easily done. Fairy is one of the better homebrew races. Though if you just want to be small, there are also Halflings, Gnomes and three different types of elves in Book 1.
>>
>>43925486

You could easily make a fairy berserker chosen of khorne. You probably want to grab that Strongest asset though, given that you're gonna be easy to kill at size 2.
>>
>>43925628
It's always strange bumping into someone describing a game you are also in on /tg/, Mr "I am the squat banking system"

Also, there are a number of other races in book 3 that are fluffed as being small and size 3, dusklings for example.
>>
>>43925628
>Daemon-possessed Spelljammer, and the GM has let him rule that they're actually all the same daemon.
did you sacrifice enough goats to a living ship ship painted inside and out with hundreds of gallons of blood for the transformation?

or did you just buy enough in Holdings to have one and also have a cool GM?
>>
>>43925940
It's not my ship, thank the gods. I have no idea where it came from, but it has a Bloodpact Stone and rolled "Super-Mega-Extra Heretical" on our DMs random backgrounds. No-one goes into the engine-room, they just pour blood sacrifices under the door and let it look after itself. You get used to the screaming.
>>
>>43925940
Not the anon you've linked to, but I'm also in that game. The player has the dots in holdings for the ship, and a roll on the heritage tables the GM made for spelljamners resulted in the ship getting a +2 or 4 on the warp encounters table, but so much additional speed. It ended up being fluffed as a possessed ship that the character was also possessed by on a salvage run gone bad. So mainly awesome GM.
The ship is, of course, called the Event Horizon.
>>
>>43920776
I think it might be a good idea to allow ranged weapons carried in hand transformed directly to a purchased personal weapon mount. Everything else goes to Cargo-Space.
>>
>>43925601
Butting in and using your roll to explain how to figure out damage, which really got me confused before I figured it out. (please correct if wrong, i am very tired)

Okay so you rolled 23 for damage. Lets say the target is wearing 4 units of armor and has a resilience of 5. First, you take the damage roll minus armor (23-4=19) and divide it by the resilience of the target. For every whole number, one point in HP or a wound is dealt. With our example, you can only get a full 5 three times out of 19 so you would do three HP damage.
>>
>>43926084
That is indeed how it works.
>>
>>43926084
It used to be size instead of resilience, but this left smaller characters dangerously easy to kill even at higher levels.
>>
>>43926095
oh good im super tired and was worried i'd get it wrong

>>43926109

Oh and armor pen basically subtracts armor points until it reaches zero. no negative armor values.

Okay, the other day I played a session of this game. I was the GM alongside two players (I had my own GMPC because it was a nice temptation)

My first question is why the fuck the third book, the fanbook one, has all the same monsters/creatures as the first book but with higher stats? What was the point of duplicating the HP of all the monsters?

The rules work well, but there is too much shit to keep track of of your character and the character page that comes with the book is too small

We fail to see the utility of sword schools and gunkatas, but that may be because we are at a low level. The thing is that the number of combat options are overhelming and the third book keeps adding more and more. We wonder if all these aditions in the third book are necessary, if they really patch something that was missing from the originals
>>
>>43927577
>monsters
Because the ones in the first book weren't updated through about 4 rules revisions. The new monsters in Fanbook 3 are the most canon part of it, and should be considered to superceed the originals in every case.

In general you shouldn't be touching Book 3 until you've played a bit first anyway. Stuff in there tends to be incomplete, broken, and OP in various ways. Definately not necessary to enjoy the game. Book 2 isn't even necessary if you don't mind melee vastly out performing guns late game.

>character sheet
Here's a better one:
http://z4.ifrm.com/30279/162/0/p1101368/DtD40k7E___Character_Sheet___II.1.pdf

>schools and kata
They generally come into thier own after you hit lvl 5. Before then, it's generally more efficient to buy feats. Remember: the game does not end when you hit level 5, it truly begins!
>>
>monsters
I didn't check if Doc updated the dragon, I forgot to double its HP from unnatural vitality and it took a while for me to notice, but otherwise yeah the dramatis personae from book 1 had their 9-stat block, size and feats taken and all derived stats recalculated per current rules to get the book 3 block
>>
>>43927777
Making green soldiers/terrorist/shittiest enemy 15hp instead of 5 seems overkill, so for the first game I made the enemies have the stats of the first book

Problem is that a lot of stuff from book 3 looks quite cool and my players said they want to use them, mainly races and classes, but I don't know if these are broken as well

I see the exaltations are definitely broken though, but using the races should be loable, right?
>>
>>43927777
Review anon here, listen to the luckiest man alive here. He speaks the truth.

Now, book 2's alignment rules help solidify the rules on alignment and make alignment rolls less "It happens sometimes."

Anyway, I've got to finish the last 2 powers of the Font.

Henshin a-bye-bye (channel 4) is effectively "You gain HP equal to Channel while in Avatar form" in a cumbersome and over-calculated way. Practically it ignores critical damage until you get 1 point over your channel, you then exit Avatar form, remove Channel critical wounds, and there you go. (Hint: Damage that isn't critical damage can be represented by HP)

Open the Floodgate (Channel 5) is pretty interesting. It lets you exceed your resource per turn limit, at the cost of 1 damage to the gizzard. This does trigger the Channel 1 power, but, well the (relatively) small pool of the Font keeps this fairly limited in scope.

>>43928900
A few too many races are a bit over-designed at times making them a little too defining for a character, overly monstrous making them annoying to deal with, or just (frankly) shitty references. Give me time so I can review the Exalts in book 3.
>>
>>43928900
For shittiest enemies, you really want to be looking at Minion Squads. They work well for Angry Mobs, Stormtroopers, and any other faceless mook that can be blitzed through as background.

The actual soldier block is intended for guards that are actually doing something important and plot relevent, like protecting prisoners. Once you've got some XP under your belt they melt away anyway, and can be downgraded to more Minions.
>>
>>43928944
> (Hint: Damage that isn't critical damage can be represented by HP)
corner cases exist where you can take critical damage less than your channel, leave avatar form and be immediately crippled and/or require extensive medical attention, which would not result by simply padding HP. not that that's necessarily worth the complication.
>>
>>43929137
This is true, and its these corner cases that only exist from this. I don't think it's worth the complication really. Which is why I say "represented by."

Anyway, I've been told the Force-Sensitive has been changed quite a bit, so I'll skip that until later,

Now then the GEODE.

Why?

Who thought this was a good idea?

Seriously.

Why?

It's things like this that make people call this "Lel: the RPG."

This is literally just translating Steven Universe into this system with the excuse that since DtD is a kitchen sink CLEARLY everything is allowed.

Right?

Well, I don't quite agree. Jojo gets massive amounts of references but there's no explicit Stand User exaltation. No it's hidden in a few references of the Atlantean exalted. You don't need 1 to 1 translations of something you saw in TV. You don't.

I know DtD is made from 4-5 different rpgs with a bit of references thrown in, but it's all mixed and spread about and within. Hell, even if you wanted to have Gems in the game, you're overly enforcing them into one slot. Hell, a good portion of this exalted is more of that "conflating what they do with what makes them more."

Okay enough of me bitching about the fluff.
>>
>>43930447
Just for information what did you think of the Force Sensitive as it was in the previous vesions?
>>
>>43930960
Short of it: Should have been a variant Atlantean at most.

Let's talk about Geode mechanics.

Gem Anatomy is their "don't die" mechanic, and it's... pretty complicated. Once again, the person who wrote this seems to have wanted to make a 1 to 1 translation of the show's content. So a Geode is a crystalline being, who's life-force is completely dependent on a singular energy source that which they won't die until it's destroyed? It reminds me of a Promethean. Except none of it works like it mechanically and it's pretty damn silly to read honestly.

Also, it doesn't even work as intended until Power Stat 3, funny enough.

Musicality effectively lets them a single resource for upwards of a +5k0 on physical actions, and can allow them to switch to 5k5 for an attack. BECAUSE THEY DO STUFF AND SING IN THE SHOW. CLEARLY THEY SING TO DO STUFF, NOT DO THINGS AND SING AT THE SAME TIME RIGHT GUIS? It's a damn powerful ability and over-emphasizes a single skill.

Truly Outrageous is pretty dumb. So they get one free dot in performer AND they have a new cap of 6. Add that with Musicality and you have me asking what the hell is wrong with the writer of this. It's a damn powerful ability when you compare it to the rest.

Oh and Truly Outrageous also adds Power Stat to HP. Not that bad of a thing, but in the end it's on top of an incredibly broken ability set.

Noise Buildup is a resource mechanic similar to the Atlantean's paradox and the Daemonhosts. Except this one runs on Performer. Because singing. Because all the other uses for Performer weren't enough.
>>
>>43930960
IIRC (and assuming this is the same reviewer)

dude thought it was garbage.
there were reasons it's gotten rewritten a few times since then...
>>
>>43930447
>Jojo gets massive amounts of references but there's no explicit Stand User exaltation.
Sin-Eaters are like Stand Users, but they were already like Stand Users in thier own game. Does that count?
>>
And now we get to the resource pool of the Geode.

And it runs on Performer. Twice.

Look, with resource pools, any multiplier is applied to the power stat. And any non-power stat adders are Attributes. Never skills. Why? Because Attributes are more expensive. So you have a skill being used for the resource pool, that also can be used for any physical skill even for attacks with a resource, that has a higher cap for reasons, and is used in the rolls to regain the resources that are based on the inflated skill used to roll the inflated skill for most things.

Now we get to more over-written and over-complicated abilities.

Geode Weaponry (Crystal Lattice 1) is effectively an over designed version of the Promethean's Integrated Weapons, that also gives you VEHICLE SCALE WEAPONRY. For free, but still. Another case of them being too similar to prometheans.

Starlight Music (Crystal Lattice 2) lets the Geode roll Performer at TN 20+Noise (The bad resource points) as a half action. Succeeding on this roll means that the Geode gets Power Stat in rolled dice for all actions that turn. Or you can spend a resource to do it as a free action. Now you can spend a point generated and restored by performer to roll performer to get a bonus on rolls that you can then spend a resource to have based on performer.

DID I MENTION THEY SING? THEY SING. SINGING'S WHAT THEY DO!

BARDS? WHAT ARE THOSE? A CLASS? WHO USES CLASSES? WHAT DO YOU MEAN I SHOULDN'T USE ONLY AN EXALTION TO DEFINE EVERY ASPECT OF MY CHARACTER?

Geode Universe (Crystal Lattice 3) is... extra-spatial existence pocket reality. When the crystal gets shunted into it with Gem Anatomy, how does it get out?
>>
Symphonic Body (Crystal Lattice 4) is effectively 3 abilities in one. And really overly designed. The ability to reshuffle your physical attributes is really damn good alone. Then you add in the ability to get double dice for the disguise skill from resource spending. Oh and you can spend resource to also get free clothes.

Drop the last 2 please. You don't need to have EVERY DAMN ability from the show be an ability of this single exaltation. Sometimes it's a spell like disguise self, or a feat or other stuff.

Up to Eleven (Crystal Lattice 5) lets you roll a max of 11 dice instead of 10. Pretty neat and not too sho- Oh there's more? Come on! Now every additional rolled die past the max adds an extra kept die, instead of every 2. For those of you wondering, a Geode can for 2 resource roll an 11k10 on most physical rolls they make. Fairly easily.

Shitty fluff reasoning, shitty over-powered mechanics, stupid over-emphasis of genre-conventions as abilities, and a single over-inflated skill used for every factor of this exaltion.

It's shit.

>>43931555
Yeah, sin-eaters are like Stand Users, and they fit the mold. The difference is that they also combo with the sin-eater concept. This keeps them from just being "STAND USERS YO" and actually feel like they belong in the general setting and design concept of the melting pot rpg.
>>
>>43922226
>tfw no Agent Venom art on Symbiote page
>>
I'll do the Guardian tomorrow, but here's a hint:

Why is it not a promethean alternative exaltation?

Why did they try to translate the game mechanics 1:1 into a single exaltation?

This is another case of the maker trying to translate EVERYTHING in warframe into a single piece of a character
>>
>>43932248
Geode creator here, Geode was going to get redesigned anyways because someone has been playing one in the game I'm in and I have already figured out it is over designed crap. A lot of things are already different, but thanks for this. I know what to scrap and such even more. Sorry for exposing you to this shit.

While I feel that Dullahans, Liakas and Lemulians are all kinda redundant, I do feel like the setting could benefit from Protoss or some manner of not-protoss

another idea I'm thinking to solve the matter of irreconcilable/redundant racial concepts is to have alternatives like with the alt-exaltations, as this is very much a build-a-setting anyway

Reviewer here. Again, I actually really like people making homebrew. I just have an overt passion for things. So if I sound angry, it's 75% an act.

Hell, whenever a designer or homebrewer gives me a comment like yours or the one who made the Font, I actually feel bad.

>Sorry for exposing you to this shit.

Keep making stuff, I'll be there to tell you if you fucked up or not.

Also it takes a lot for a designer to know they fucked up. It's a sign of professionalism, I may not agree with the fluff, but there are interesting ideas there.

Don't get me wrong, man. It's not like I'm all torn up about being told geode is shit. It was my first homebrew exalt, and I already had planned on redesigning it. I said it's shit because it is objectively shit in it's current form. I didn't think you were actually salty or anything, your faux angry writing made reading about my work (something I usually dread) bearable.

I'll post something here on the thread later I've been working on, that the forum hasn't even seen yet. That way you guys can get some input in before anyone else.

Giant Robots you say. Other than book two vehicle designs?

It's based off of book two stuff. I'll post the exalt in a bit, but be warned it's rough. I mostly want input on if the current mechanical direction I'm working with is usable.

A quick fluff summary is that machine spirits of broken machines can gather together and ascend, becoming a big sentient robot spirit thing. Those bind with the player to make them exalted.

HOMEBREW EXALTATION - Panzer

STATIC POWERS
- Panzer: You gain your Engine in dots of Holding to build a vehicle, which becomes your Panzer. You may summon your Panzer to your location from wherever it is parked as a Full Action by spending 1 point of Overdrive. When summoned your Panzer is activated and ready to be boarded as a Half Action. As you increase your Engine, you may upgrade and redesign your Panzer by buying new upgrades with VP and installing them. If there is no room in the immediate area to hold your Panzer, the summoning fails and you do not expend a point of Overdrive.
- Living Metal: Gain dots in Backing equal to your Engine to support your Panzer, representing it's status as a sentient, cyber being that can perform autonomously. It can perform basic commands given to it while unpiloted, and perform maintain control actions automatically, rolling Engine + Level. It has Mental and Social Characteristics equal to Engine, and can learn skills like an AI. You may spend 1 point of Overdrive to give your Panzer a Half Action or a Reaction.
- Weapons Platform: Gain Engine x 2 extra slots on your Panzer, and your Panzer gains 2 extra Reslience for free.
- Iron Bound: Without your Panzer you are essentially mortal. You may only spend Overdrive while piloting your Panzer, except to spend a point to summon it or give it Half/Reaction Actions. If your Panzer would be destroyed, you can and must burn a hero point to have it avoid complete destruction.

RESOURCE STAT - Overdrive: Overdrive represents the ability for your Panzer to exceed it's limits and increase it's performance. You have [Engine x 2] points of Overdrive. You may restore your Engine in points of Overdrive with an hour of repairs and a TN 20 Crafts check.

The main inspiration for this was the super robo genre idea of finding a big, friendly robot that's all busted up and fixing it up and saving the world. Wanted to play with the idea of your exalt not 100% being a part of you.

Actual inspirations are things like Cybuster, Big O, and other stuff like that.

From a fluff perspective i don't like that it focuses so much on an "outside character" object, but i guess that's the whole point.

From a crunch perspective this vehicle could become stupid powerful, but mostly useless in non-vehicle situations, which i guess is the point.

I would consider removing the restriction on only spending ressources while in the PANZER without assests.
You should at least be able to boost you rolls and heal like all other exalts if you are caught off guard in a non-vehicle situation.

Also, the whole thing might force characters in the "vehicle pilot" niche and influence their class choice. One thing i really liked about core rulebook exalts was the fact that the exaltation mostly worked with all class choices. Werewolf had some tendencys towards meele heavy etc, but it wasn't to outlandish to play a mage that goes hairy when he's cornered.

The Panzer beeing able to drive itself remedies to a degree, so you might be standing on top of it duelling somebody in meele while it drives and shoots stuff, but i still feel the exaltation is at it's prime when used with pilot-type classes.

Another idea to make it more appealing in non-vehicle situations might be to allow parts of the vehicle aspects "summoned" on the character for a short while.
Access to Vehicle Grade Weaponry for one turn and a cost of overdrive for example might fit in here, but should be pretty far up the powercurve. Summoning vehicle armor or gimmicks for a short time on you character might be an idea. Imagine beeing able to move with it's drivetrain for a turn, or shielding you in tank armor and void shields for a single turn.
Or enviromental-seal yourself if you get thrown into space without a voidsuit.

Actually i feel beeing able to summon the whole vehicle should be one of the last things you learn while accessing parts of its power in short bursts helps to center it as an addition to the character and not a separate entity.

>>43936476
cont because postlimit:

I really like the ressource system though, that seems really thematic and not too strong.

>>
>>43936658
Literally who?
>>
>>43936679
http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Sajin_Komamura

Pretty powerful side character from Bleach, his signature ability beeing able to summon parts of a giant (shikai, low level power) or the whole the giant (bankai, ultimate ability) that mimics his every move.
>>
>>43936658
>>43936805
a better comparison would probably be the Contract Monsters from Kamen Rider Ryuki and how all the Riders could summon parts of them to use as weapons
>>
>>43936476
The question is, from the sound of this approach you would be designing a full vehicle, but only be able to access it piece by piece at a time?

While it could work, it would kind of suck to be designing a vehicle and never be able to touch it, considering you could just raw get somehing better at character creation with background dots.

I like the idea of summoning pieces of the vehicle though. That is an angle I'll probably work with. I'll probably fold the beacon asset into the normal exalt though, and use that idea for the base fluff of summoning vehicle parts.

But the question is, do I keep the sentient AI/free upgrades part of it? A few things will have to get the boot for other stuff.

Also after a bit reading in Book 3 and finding the chapter about the Galactic Patrol having their own huge magic battery to power them, i'm growing a bit fond of the fonts.

I like the idea of beeing able to "make" Exalts through enormous effort, which compared to becoming a vampire is actually some sort of directed effort rather than a random event happening to you.
It has this feel of "even if the universe thinks i'm to weak and no event that might exalt me, i'm not going to give up here"
This whole "standing up against fate and the very rules of nature, defying my place in the food chain" might be a rather good piece of fluff for Fonts in general.
They are not by chance born the greatest of their species, they are not born with a dragons blood or reborn from a long lost soul. No Demon found interest in them, Luna did not bless them and no vampire wanted to share Khaines blood. They were not created from arcane technology to serve a special purpose, and death did not choose to meet them yet so they could muster the will to rise again.
Yet still they found a way to rise and become legend, through a gift from their friends, a coin from a space-wizard-head in a glass tube, a magic pact with that strange catlike alien or a ring of untold power, granted from one lantern to another.
Crunch might need some tweaks, but this way i guess the fluff might be okay.
>>
>>43937067
I think it's wise to keep the complete vehicle in, but it shouldn't be the only real ability it grants.
Summoning certain aspects for a turn could be just another static power, just to make it useful in case you are in a small tunnel where the whole vehicle won't fit. You might start with just gimmicks and add armor and weapons with higher Engine ratings.
>>
>>43937099
you are salvaging the primis in your own interpretation, I feel like Font's could benafit from a path that strongly focuses on team work, possibly with other Fonts
>>
>>43937232
More Kyoryuger than Kamen Rider, then?
>>
>>43937257
I can see that point, making beeing a font more of a group effort sounds fitting. Something along the lines that a lot of little fragments of power from a lot of people gathered together can be enough to exalt someone choosing to wield that power.
>>
>>43937232
more exalts need to shape the party like that, I mean just think of how we can have an Atlantian working with a Nephalem
>>
>>43937176
Well, what do you think would be appropriate for people to be able to summon? I'm probably going to lock weapon summoning behind power stat 3 or 4

Moving like a vehicle, while it sounds nice, is actually kind of messy. If your vehicle wouldn't have enough room to move, you crashing into walls like an idiot because suddenly you have to worry about maintaining momentum and control tests wouldn't help either.

I can think of a few that might be useful (Environmental Seals, Jump Jets, Sensor Systems, and maybe Thermotpic Camo) most would be too good or not compatible really (Orgone Antennae, ECM, S2 Engines, Cargo).

So either the summoning would have to be very specific (which would detract from the super customizable vehicle angle, only summoning specific upgrades which are given to you) or only certain things could be summoned, which means you would have to list out all of the allowed or restricted items, whatever is smaller.
>>
>>43937428
I think Orgone Antennae can be locked behind the same level-wall as vehicle grade weaponry, as it serves a similiar purpose, namely to evocation things to death.

Another interessting thing might be having a berserker system take over in case the character goes unconscious.

The major problem is that a lot of vehicle upgrades might work, but they need extra text to make them character compatible, which will be impossible to fit on the usual two pages and to specialized to be included in the vehicle section.
So in the end i think it should be limited to really defining traits: weapons, armor and cupholders.
>>
>>43937628

Another little thought to smooth it out:
*: Combat subsystem - is way stronger in actual combat then ***: Double down, which feels a bit underwhelming. Maybe switch those two?
**: Frame - The alternate drivetrains should allow naval drives. Invocing vehicle powers might allow "walking" on water.
****: Alpha Frame - as everything here is some sort of air-drive, invoking it without summoning might allow the character to gain the flyer trait.
>suggested version:
STATIC:
-Panzer&Living Metal: Fine as is.
-Weapons Platform: not sure what to think about this. You already get a shitton of equipment that takes no slots, you might as well roll with this, as you might even not know what to do with those slots. Also, the extra resilience might not be needed. Maybe leave this one out.
-Iron Bound: You really should be able to use ressources in a generic way, not beeing able to boost rolls or healing surge like everyone else is just unfair. Having to burn a Hero Point if the Panzer dies is fitting though, you would basicly die with it as you are the same entity...

another, clean post will follow.
>>
>>43938300
>a first interpretation working this whole mess together
STATIC:
-Living Metal: Gain Holdings and Backing equal to your Engine to create and support a vehicle bonded to you, your PANZER. You may upgrade it when your Engine increases or redesign it with a day of work.
It takes maintain control actions by itself when not driven, rolling Engine+Level. It has Mental and Social characteristics equal to your Engine and can learn skills like a basic vehicle AI that takes no slots and has no cost.
- Kick into High Gear!: Spending a Full Action and a point of Overdrive allows to summon the Panzer to your location or you to the Panzers location, as long as there is space. Spending a point of overdrive allows the vehicle to perform an additional half action or reaction per point spent.
- Iron Bound: You and your Panzer are one and the same entity. When you die, your Panzer becomes a bunch of scrap. When your Panzer is destroyed, you die. You must burn Hero points to prevent this if possible.
-Double Down:
>I'm not sure, but it feels the first version didn't really do much as most upgrades never excluded each other. You should still have space for most things as you'll have a ton of slots left from free upgrades. This one feels more like Car-themed Prestidigitation:
You and your Panzer get the "Basic equipment"-Cockpit Upgrade for free. Yes, you now have cupholders, a radio, headlights and seatbelts, etc. to summon at will within 1 meter around yourself.

RESOURCE STAT - Overdrive: Overdrive represents the ability for your Panzer to exceed it's limits and increase it's performance. You have [Engine x 2] points of Overdrive. You may restore your Engine in points of Overdrive with an hour of repairs and a TN 20 Crafts check.

>will be continued
>>
>>43938791
GAINED POWERS
*: Frame - Gain a free variable drivetrain that takes no slots, chosen from: Walker, Wheele, Hover, Treaded and Naval. As long as your Panzer has a Naval or Hover Drivetrain installed, you may spend one point of overdrive to be able to walk on water or similiar liquids for the rest of the scene.
**: Metal Bulwark- Your Panzer gains a free set of light Armor that takes no slots. You may spend a point of overdrive to profit from all armor and Void Shields installed on your Panzer for one turn.
***: Combat Subsystems: Gain a free Mobile Trace system or a +1k1 Orgone Antennae that takes no slots. Spend a point of Overdrive to make an attack with a weapon installed on your Panzer or let yours Spells profit from the Antennaes Damage bonus once per turn.
****: Alpha Frame - Gain a free Variable Drivetrain thats takes no slots from: VTOL, Scramjet, Aerospace or Munchhausen. As long as one of those drives is installed on your Panzer, you may spend a point of overdrive to gain the Flyer trait equal to your normal speed until the end of the scene.
*****: Artifact Panzer - Treat your Panzer's ranged weapons, melee weapons, armor, and ammunition used as if they were made of an Artifact material chosen when this power is gained.

PLATFORM ASSETS
- Beacon Platform: Your Panzer transmits energy to you through a beacon that replaces your heart. Gain a best quality Bionic Heart. Whenever you summon your Panzer, you are already boarded inside of it and can pilot it immediately. You can spend Overdrive to grant yourself half actions or reactions instead of your Panzer, and you gain the benefits of the Artifact material chosen at Engine 5 on your Bionic Heart.

- Infiltration Platform: Your Panzer has a group of advanced long-ranged surveillance systems and radar jammimg capabilities. Gain an Advanced Sensor System, Thermoptic Camo system, and ECM System all for free that take no slots and costs nothing. You may spend a point of Overdrive to engage ECM or Sensors until the end of the Scene or make a Stealth test as descried with the Termoptic Camo.

- Acceleration Platform: Your Panzer is installed with a powerful turbine system that can vault it to incredible speeds. You may spend a point of Overdrive to gain the benefits of using an Afterburner as a Half Action. You also gain an Overcharged Reactor for free that takes no slots and costs nothing.

- Astral Platform: Your Panzer is equipped with various upgrades that allow it to survive in a void more easily. It gains Environmental Seals, Standard Jump Jets, and a Void Shield with a rating of Engine x 2 for free that all take no slots and cost nothing.
You may spend a point of overdrive to shield yourself from intense enviroments, becoming immune to suffocation, radiation, extreme heat or cold, starvation, fatigue and thirst until the end of the scene.

-Magitek Platform: Your Panzer is a magitek construct and able to sling vehicle scale spells and be controlled through magic might. You may use Arcana as the piloting skill for Control tests. You gain an basic Orgone Antennae array that upgrades to +1k1 upon reaching ***: Combat Subsystems.
If you choose the Orgone Antennae when gaining ***: Combat Subsystems, improve them to +2k2.

And yet can be played completely straight with an interesting setting to explore, taking many of the unique mechanics, character, and setting features from around a dozen published settings and layering them in such a way as to create something different and yet entirely copyright-infringing at the same time.

Hell yes i love playing this setting straight. I might lean a bit on the 40k heavy side just because i'm not as familiar with the other settings, but i love it all in it's crazy but almost believable ways.

On a related note, would anyone be interessted in a play by post game? I don't have the time to show up to sessions, but i can write half an hour per evening a few days a week.

You could try adding bits from Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld (an old DC comicbook which they unsuccessfully tried to relaunch with new52 as Sword of Sorcery)

Size changing powers, AND powers that fluctuate randomly are bookkeeping nightmares for a game that is already bogged down with such things.

Youma is the worst of both, and fuck anything that's based off of your base size as a a Youma too, because that fluctuates. Shit's ridiculous. Also Youma is fluffed as warp stuff.
>>
What's the opinion about the symbiote?

Currently on my party we have a promethean, a dragon blood and a symbiote, and since the last one comes from the third book I'm a bit worried
>>
>>43943483
I think it's rather balanced.
The Static abilities are okay and include enough drawbacks. Better Mental rolls, integrated weapons and armor rating, some social stuff as well as a "come back from death" mechanic that's a lot weaker then the wraiths. Nothing we didn't already see somewhere.
* - Regeneration is fine, as your Ressourcepool still limits you somewhat.
** - Delicious brains: Great Roleplay skill, i like it
*** - Malleable It should be worded "lose one hitpoint" als inflicting one point of damage will do nothing to you. It might become insanely powerful if combined with ***** later on, i'd maybe noth in a ressource cost as well, but otherwise it's okay.
**** - Spawn: Making Minions is nothing that makes you overly deadly and again makes for great roleplay situations. I like it.
***** - Abomination: Comparable with a Prometheans Warstrider Form, but coupled with a significantly higher cost and a more restrictive timelimit. You loose out on DEX but gain a few nifty traits.
+5 to STR or CON due to this and your *** is really strong and you become more durable then a warstrider.
+3 Resilience puts you to 9 Max (considering a size 5 race) with +3 or +5 bonus HP
But on the other hand, you gain no size and thus are harder to hit.
With the way higher activation cost and the time-limit it's not far from balanced.

>Final Verdict:
Symbiotes are no gamebreakers in my eyes. The physical few statboost might be a bit out of proportion, but nothing that can't be handled.
>>
>>43943760
One question, does regeneration have any limit on how many hit points are you allowed to heal by this?

On a different topic:
I got the 3.3 book, the one that doesn't include stupid shit like unicorns or the Geode. Pretty much everything except the font looks fine to me, but because we have only played a level 1 session I can't really tell

Any word on the added classes? is there any that should be avoided like the plague?
>>
>>43943808
Resource Points are limited to Power Stat/Turn.

Also, go for 3.7 - I'm pretty sure that all the old stuff is still there, just updated to the current version. Classes might be hit-or-miss - lemme check through my Excel file in a bit.

>>43943483
Not the reviewanon, but lemme take a look at it.

Fluff-wise, I guess it's Venom mixed with that Parasyte anime and maybe some other stuff?

>Dual Minds
+1k1 to mental tests by spending a resource point. It's a +0k1 boost over the standard thing, and (I think) works out to ~+5? Could be powerful if combined with certain magic classes.

>Living Weapons
So, this gives the somewhat standard Exalt natural weapon except you need to pay for it. You also get 1-5 AP that doesn't stack with armor (and in fact destroys it). Not that useful, I don't think, unless maybe if you go Monk?
Pay a resource point for, at best, worse Flak armor and a club/knife.

>Unsettling
-2k1 on social tests, except for Intimidation where you get +2k1. It's like the Promethean, except even Exalts hate you and you get one thing you're good at. Which they're really good at - +2k1 is big.
Thing is, they probably still want to avoid social combat since that penalty applies to Refute.

>Strange Anatomy
+2-6HP, -2k2 to Medicae Tests to help you (a "check" is something completely different, author), and some light immortality that'll only save you if the rest of the party wins the fight anyway.
The last bit is the Vampire's Undead Resilience lite, by the by. A bit of a trend, so far?
The extra HP could be big, I guess.

The Symbiote has a whole lot of resource points - probably starting at 5-10 - and regains them at the beginning of each day and every combat. A better Werewolf's Rage, basically.
(Cont.)
>>
>>43943854
>Also, go for 3.7
already have it, but when we made the characters n shit we did it with the 3.3. When I came to see 3.7 it looked kinda retarded in some parts, like basketball weapons and too many unnecessary stuff (too many added gunkatas and sword schools
>>
>>43943878
Understandable, I guess. Just try to make sure that you're using whatever the best version is what you're using - the old Demiurge is just completely broken, for instance.

Also, it's a homebrew compilation book. If you don't want your players to use something from it, say no.

>>43943854
Whoops, misread how Synch works. Yeah, it's pretty much just worse Rage since it runs off of the Power Stat rather than Level.

>*Regenerate
Frees you from needing a Healing Surge, and can potentially make you extremely tanky against opponents without your weaknesses since it's pretty much +5-15HP/Combat.

>** Delicious Brains
Roleplay skill that gives +1-5k0 to impersonate dead guys. Being able to use their skills may be powerful, although it's only for the rest of the scene.

>*** Malleable
Lose 1HP (lol, Strange Anatomy) to get +2 to a stat for a scene. It's worth noting that it doesn't stack, but it does let you get up to 7 which is... probably worse than the Werewolves' Warform, to be honest. Probably balanced, although I'd like to note that the damage can still be healed by a Healing Surge and thus is kind of moot.

>**** Spawn
Minions roll (Number)k(Threat Rating), and deal damage equal to five times their damage rating plus five per raise.
These are 5k(Damage/2) minions, in other words. If they survive a battle, you get back the HP.
This could be useful, I guess? Take the six HP you got from Strange Anatomy to make an extra 3k3 attack per turn. Not overpowered in the least, though.

>***** Abomination
Once per scene, spend all the Synch you got at the start of combat to destroy your armor and get a worse Warstrider. You also get Fear 3 and Stuff of Nightmares, but Fear 3 is party-unfriendly and Stuff of Nightmares is... well, SoN is pretty good at least. It's pretty much "ignore crits except those from E, X that would kill you and magic".
Also, stun immunity. That's good.
The cost is huge, though, so I'm not really sure what I think of it.

(Cont.)
>>
>>43943808
>that doesn't include stupid shit like unicorns or the Geode.
Hey, I actually like Unicorns. Geodes as they are suck though.

>>43943878
>too many added gunkatas and sword schools
I disagree. Most of them are alternates to preexisting schools anyway.
>>
>>43943938
So, Assets. You get one of these.

I think the names are from Exalted 3e or something? I heard something like that, at least.

>Blood Vector
Unsettling doesn't give you the +-2k1, but you can spend a resource point to get +1k1 on a social test. That's spending a feat to replace an ability with an extension to Two Minds, basically. I don't know if it's worth it, but maybe?

>Breath Vector
Living Weapon gives you Aura that's worse than a Chosens. Which is fine, I guess, but IMO Living Weapon sucks, so.
It also gives your crappy natural weapon Orgone Array, also known as "if the dice explode, make 'em roll Psychic Phenomena". And they're treated as magic, for those that care about that.
It makes Living Weapon better, but I'm still not sure if it's worth it. Especially since literally any custom weapon with Orgone Array is going to be better.

>Flesh Vector
Living Weapon gets Penetration, and you can spend additional points to either give it double penetration on two raises and +1k0 parrying, or 9-10 explosions and -1k0 parrying and "this requires two hands to use."
I wonder which is better.
By the way, Author, "mod" is the custom weapon thing while "special quality" is the weapon thing. "Property" isn't either. If you meant the weapon mods, though, the impact version also gets +1k1 damage which is a thing.
Another Living Weapon asset that may or may not be worth it - personally I don't think so, but what do I know.

>Marrow Vector
You get the Back Stab and Sneak Attack feats and +Power Stat on Stealth and Larceny. Wow. Good job stealing Assassin/Rogue 2 & 3's One Unique Thing, there.
Those feats mean that you halve the armor of unaware opponents and get +2k0 damage when ganging up on someone (i.e. outnumbering your opponent).
That's a pretty strong Asset, I think!

>Soil Vector
You get a dot in Divination and can take it as if it was in-class, and +1k1 to Focus Power tests with Divination spells.
That's fairly good, I guess. Somewhat vanilla Asset.
>>
>>43944056
conclusion?
>>
>>43943938
>***** Abomination
>get a worse Warstrider
I actually find it a bit stronger, but let's just compare where it can get, i didn't do the math yet:

STR 5 CON 5 DEX 5 Size 5 Level 5 Character
WIS 5 (for static defense) WILL 5 (abomination duration)
Thats 30 SD, Resilience 6

Going Warstrider makes you STR 8, CON 8, DEX 8, Size 10 Level 5 WIS 5 WILL 5
That's 29 SD, Resilience 9 and +3 HP until the end of the scene for free, but only once per day.
Also +1k1 damage on integreated weapons.

Going abomination makes you STR 8, CON 8, DEX 5, Size 5 Level 5 WIS 5 WILL 5
That's SD 30, Resilience 9, +3 HP for up to 18 turns for 5 Synch.
Also Fear 3 (which might backfire, i agree), Stuff on nightmares, 1k1 damage on a mostly worse weapon AND an additional half action per turn.
It is pretty much on par with Warstrider in most aspects, but cost and timelimit are making it worse. Those might need a tweak, at least make it last a full scene as well, the Ressource cost balances the fact that is has no "per Day" Limit.

Also i didn't do the resilience/SD math for smaller sizes yet, but that might follow.
>>
>>43944078
I'd say "not terribly overpowered".

I probably wouldn't play one myself, to be honest, since there's so much focus on Living Weapon and that one's somewhat diametrically opposed to my preferred approach of being heavily armored with big weapons.

I could definitely see someone wanting to play it, thouhg.
>>
>>43944056
>You get the Back Stab and Sneak Attack feats and +Power Stat on Stealth and Larceny
That shouldn't say that, actually. It should say +1 Resilience and doubled armor with Living Weapon. The PDF version is outdated from the forum version.
>>
>>43944123
Note that Abomination gives +3 Size, not +3 Resilience - since half of it goes to Resilience, it's really just +1,5.

If you're larger than Size 3, you get more Resilience from Warstrider.

I did miss the extra half action, though - that's fairly good. The problem there, though, is that you can only use each Half Action once and Abomination clearly wants you to be in melee which cuts the options down even further.

Also, of course, an Integrated Weapon could be a Daiklave or five MP Lascannons while the natural weapon maxes out as a 3k4 if you focus on it fully. Which is probably worse than just having the Abomination pick up a Grimscythe, so they can convert Strength into kept dice easier.

Man, at least the Werewolf, Daemonhost and Vampire have a reason to use their crappy natural weapons. The only core Exalt I can think of with a just outright worse natural weapon is the Dragon-blooded.

Speaking of crappy things, let me take some breakfast and then I'll come back and go through the classes.
>>
>>43944220
Oh, okay. That's better, I guess - it fixes the one thing I dislike the most about Living Weapon's AP bonus. (That being that it's tiny.)

Bonus Resilience is pretty damn good as well. Yeah, I think I'll stand by my comment that it's "a pretty strong Asset, I think!"
>>
>>43944123
Size 2 with maxed DEX, WIS and Level: SD 36 Res 5
Warstrider: SD 41 Res 7
Abomination: SD 36 Res 8

Size 3 with maxed DEX, WIS and Level: SD 34 Res 5
Warstrider: SD 37 (Halfling 52) Res 7
Abomination: SD 34 (Halfling 34) Res 8

Size 4 with maxed DEX, WIS and Level: SD 32 Res 6
Warstrider: SD 33 Res 8
Abomination: SD 32 Res 9

Size 5 with maxed DEX, WIS and Level: SD 30 Res 6
Warstrider: SD 29 Res 9
Abomination: SD 30 Res 9

>size 2 and 3 are harder to hit but slightly less tanky as warstriders, the resilience only evens out at Size 5 while SD almost evens out at Size 4.
Also: Halfling Warstriders are the shit...
>>
>>43944225
>>43944276
Holy crap you are right...
I have no idea why i kept reading resilience, ignore the bullshit i theorycrafted here. The only thing better from Abomination is the fact that you can do it more then once per day.
>Halfling Warstriders are still a thing i want to play now.
>>
>>43944319
>more then once per day
Once every combat, pretty much. Although then you're eating into your healing and bonus reaction actions and daze recovery. (Stun is covered by Stuff of Nightmares.)

Also, of course, if you do it that often then your party is going to hate you for all the TN25 Willpower tests you're throwing at them.
The biggest problem with giving heroes Fear, I think, is that mooks don't really care about Insanity. The Shock Table is still a hefty debuff, though.
>>
Alright. So, Classes. Are there any requests for specific classes to look at, or should I just go through them in alphabetical order?
>>
I'm a bit confused, can stats reach lv 6 or can't they?

From the stats description nothing says about what stat on 6 is
>>
>>43944370
Alphabetical, I suppose. Monster Hunter and Rigger have changes, so I'd either check the forum or skip them. Hacker got turned into a complete class track (complete with new hacking rules for everyone), so skip that too. There's also classes that haven't gotten in yet (such as Alchemist and Gambler) that you might want to check as well.
