Welcome to the Accidental Magical Girl thread!

Various worlds and multiverses have become connected together via the mysterious Overcity, a sprawling landscape inhabited by monsters and magical beings. Girls and boys endowed with their new supernatural powers can work together solving conflicts that arise!

>This is NOT a greentext adventure style CYOA with one GM and thread posting to dictate the adventure, but rather a hub thread for multiple storycrafters to use. A majority of activity (including campaigns) instead happens in the IRC, which is open for newbies to join.
Characters can be rolled with either the CYOA's purple PDF which is intended as a writing prompt and is in the process of developing an independent auxiliary combat system, or AMGC's blue pdf which contains combat rules for PNP campaigns along with the rolls. The IRC mostly uses AMGC.

Anyway folks, I'd like to discuss here something I've been proposing in chat.


I've been doing the mess around with two systems, White Wolf and D20, and what I've discovered is that AMGC is using a very watered down version of White Wolf. What is White Wolf used on?

Well anon, I'm glad you asked.

White Wolf is a system common between three different games, two of them being semi related. World of Darkness, Mage, and Exalted.

I have witnessed a game of Mage, and what I saw was actually quite interesting and would pherhaps be compatible with what is now being used for AMGC.

And what it was, was a system of skills that played into the number of die you had for a specific stat roll. I believe that upon creation, you are given a limited number of skill points to attribute in many places.

While the character sheet presents many, these skills are directly correlated with a stat that the character has, and depending on the action, you get extra die to roll on your stat.

An example of this would be, that a STR mahou has a 3 skill points in weight lifting, therefore removing objects out of the way or breaking things would make her have 3 additional die on her roll.

Not only that, but the DM to these sessions has a flexible threshold of success depending on the difficulty of the task. 5s and 6s could be successes if the task proves to not be something daunting for girls and boys that enhanced with magic to the point of inhumane mastery of a specific attribute.


And with this, I ask all of you for your input.

Please don't bring this up unless you have the first fucking clue about the WoD, because you obviously don't.
White Wolf is the game company. They used the Storyteller System in their World of Darkness, which includes games like Vampire: the Masquerade, Werewolf: the Apocalypse and Mage: the Ascension (the subtitle is not optional, as it otherwise causes mixups with the New World of Darkness Mage:the Awakening, also known as "Disney's Atlantis with no balance").
Saying that the World of Darkness is a game is about as accurate as saying that Warhammer is a roleplaying game. There are many roleplaying games in the Warhammer universes, but under that there's Fantasy and 40k, and each of those have multiple games (and on top of that there are the non-roleplaying games and other spinoffs). It could be barely correct if you used the New World of Darkness as an example, which has the core setting as its own game line, but you linked an Ascension character sheet.
You're rather new to all this, right? You're far too enthusiastic about something you have next to no idea about, and you're gushing about a completely fucking simple dice pool system like it's revolutionary. It's like you assume that the creator of AMGC didn't know about the Storytelling System/World of Darkness (both are used, because the WoD uses its distinct versions of the rules and composes most of the Storyteller System games - and still you were wrong), or that people here know less about roleplaying games than someone who still posts like they're on Reddit, uses a tripcode when they don't contribute content and knows little enough about the culture which they're basing their games on that they can brag about playing a Korean game in a thread about Japanese-inspired media.
I'm not trying to rub your face in the dirt, but Jesus Christ you need a wake-up call before you become the laughingstock of the thread.

As a related side note, AMGC was explicitly designed with Exalted mechanics, not WoD or NWoD. This is because the system that AMGC was meant to be an extension to (Jayne's system) was explicitly an adaptation for Exalted mechanics, and the original developers for AMGC weren't game designers, but storytellers looking to run a couple of campaigns in the short term.

Nah, there are hiccups but things are more or less consistent. At worst there's a lull caused by lack of content and some drama, but things aren't declining more than you'd expect.

I mean, yes, it's a pity we lost a bunch of the old guard needlessly, but it's not a deathblow to the community.

I expect things to get better when we have more GMing and updated editions since the current one, as good as it is, has its limits.

Largely the problem is drama, It effects more than just 1-2 people who hate eachother and end up leaving, it makes other people feel awkward and not want to be there.
We have had a very large amount of drama that often could have been solved by simply ignoring eachother ooc or just sucking it up and playing nice.
I think our community is a lot healthier now that we know who our admin is and can trust him to actually take care of stuff.

A few rules questions:

Does the emergency background mean you get to pick the two combat perks or that you get two extra ones?

Also a perk dual fist/mystic weapon gives you +2 str +1 mag but a mystic/fist weapon gives you +1 mag +1 str, even though both have similar functionality, is that right?

Finally does the soul twin penalty reduce your stats out of uniform as well? 2 across the board seems pretty crippling for day to day time.

It's a free-to-play PvP and PvE card game that released in 2011 with a magical girl aesthetic. It's English version's already been officially closed and is being kept alive by the community. There were four (now 5 apparently) factions to choose from, each with their own strengths and a theme for the girls that were in them: Academy (Maids), Vita (Schoolgirls), Darklore (Vampires), Crux (Knights) and Empire (Soldiers). I'd tell you what each's strategies were, but I've honestly only just started looking into it myself after seeing it in 2011.

There's no real storyline to follow other than through flavor-text, but it's got tons of interesting characters and designs.

Any Gold spent allows you to duplicate it's results on your Twin, whether that is a bonus Power, Extra Perks, a roll mod, or stats. Silvers spent for Stats give +1 to each of you. Bronze coins do not dupe effects.

Indeed it is! Planning to rectify that with an edit in 1.51. No Power for your Twin. Your shared Power is having a Twin, though if you buy a bonus Power via Gold Coin you both get it.

In other news, I got a BUNCH of little edit changes and language cleanups from a friendly grammar guru, so I have plenty of small edits to worth though for 1.51 in addition to the balance and rule edits I need to make. I'd say that which Major Arcana matches to each of my characters is something that changes over time. Right now, though?

Belinda: The Star. Hope, faith, and healing which follow after the calamity of the in hindsight, rather literal Tower. In addition to the Star, Strength and The Hanged Man would also both fit her character as a whole, whether upright or reversed.

Aysu: Wheel of Fortune reversed. Misfortune and a sudden, life-altering change dictated by forces beyond her control. Overall, the Moon is the obvious card to pick as representative of he for a number of reasons.

Seona: The Hierophant, both positions. Obedience and a desire for knowledge, but also a growing conscience and the realization that authority figures (Read: Puchuu) cannot all be trusted. As a whole, both Justice and Judgement would likely be good fits.

Mental/social stats are not a thing in this because they were surprisingly unimportant in certain particularly famous examples of the mahous genre. Also, having to have those kinds of things in your statline means your characterization rests on the rolls of the dice.

Instead, you get physical and supernatural stats, because nobody wants to pay their minmaxing points towards characterization when they can avoid it.
