Why does everyone think a pyromaniac ranger is a horrible idea? Why not have burned ground as favored terrain? Experience from hunting on ashfields near volcanoes, etc.Truth be told, I don't remember how ranger works in 5e and I'm basing this all on Pathfinder

If you're actually looking for constructive criticism, making that kind of edgy character is a bad idea for your first time. One of the biggest issues new players run into is creating someone that doesn't work well as a team. Regardless of what you may or may not enjoy in roleplaying games, every mechanic in D&D is party-based: pretty much all combat, adventuring and travel will be done with those at the table. If your character can't play nice they'll do nothing but bog down the party and starve the attention and everyone will loathe you for it. Granted any character can fit a party with some clever and charming roleplay, and/or you decide to be a (somehow cohesive) evil party that runs from town to town causing mayhem sure it can work, but in any other case creating a genuine psychopath will not get you far.
If you really can't help your urges just play some sort of fire-mage and revel in some socially acceptable face meltery instead.

Generally a character whose only personality trait is an antics oriented psychosis or disability is going to be a bad choice. The antics, while they may seem xD kek hilarious right now, will quickly grow stale, and then you're stuck with a character that people are tired of and you don't want to roleplay as anymore.
