Okay, so last weekend we rolled up an Iron Hands descendant chapter, but didn't end up deciding on a name or making any real fluff before everyone fell asleep.

Anybody want to try and continue this?

Okay, so we're an Iron Hands successor, founded in the 40th Millenium, on a Crusade. We hate Heretics and have a tendency to destroy everything. Being an IH descendant, we have a fondness for bionics but we’re not as manic about it as our predecessor.

Our Occulobes are oversensitive, which gives us 'night vision' but makes it hard for us to see in 'daylight', but are otherwise fine mutation-wise. Because of this Bionic Eyes are the most common augmentation to be seen in our chapter.

One of our old Chapter-Masters was a fucking badass who led many glorious campaigns and slayed countless foes of the Emperor... until, for reasons unknown to us, he was slain along with a significant portion of our chapter by the Officio Assassinorum (it might have something to do with our tendency to destroy everything when we fight, however), leaving us understrength.

Our Homeworld is a Feral Desert world, called Kerakion, that we really only bother with when we need something/something important happens, otherwise we let the Planetary Governor run it for us. Most of our Space Marines come from Kerakion, but we use some other feral worlds for recruitment too.

We diverge from the Codex Astartes a bit, but not too much, and specialize in Terror tactics. We have a special fighting style (general consensus is that we use dual chain-axes, though that could still change) which helps us with that, possibly helped along by our buddies in the Admech.

We venerate the Emperor above all, like any good Imperial Citizen should, and have an immense hatred for the Emperor's Children, especially one particular EC-led warband, called the Scions of Lust, that we slaughtered at one point. Unfortunately enough members escaped to reform the Warband with new recruits - most of the survivors were Emperor’s Children, who are much more resistant to our terror tactics than the mortal cultists.
>>
TL;DR We’re a loyalist Iron Hands descendant whose tactics are kind of a mix between the World Eaters’ and the Night Lords’, with a hateboner for the Emperor’s Children.

>[Still Unnamed Chapter]'s Tactics

>The [Insert Name Here] are a lesser-known descendant of the Iron Hands, known primarily for slaughter of the Scions of Lust, a Slaaneshi-worshipping Chaos warband led by some Emperor's Children traitor marines, during the Battle of Mytus V.

>The [Insert Name Here] are usually recruited from Feral Worlds, especially their Homeworld of Kerakion, a harsh Desert planet that spends half the year locked in day and the other half locked in night due to it's rather bizarre orbit around it's system's star. Because of this, their armour is often decorated with primitive trinkets, such as the remains of their enemies, with the purpose of intimidation.

>While the trinkets probably help, the primary reason the [Insert Name Here] are so effective in inducing terror into their enemies comes down to their habits of forcing their enemies to fight them in the dark where they have an advantage, their brutal fighting style, their relationship with the Adeptus Mechanicus usually allowing them to get bionics specifically crafted with intimidation in mind and other associated tactics that were definitely not inspired/taken from records of the Night Lords, because that would be heresy..

Can people at least give me a name from >>47731804 ?

I can write the rest of teh lore myself if I need to, but I'd like some input on the name at least for fucks sake.

In light of the bionic eyes/night vision, which I like, I would propose the motto be 'See No Evil Stand."

>>47731843
The Iron Night, given our way of fighting and night vision. It ties it all up in a neat package.

Is there any conceivable way these guys could "project" darkness onto the battlefield? Like, souped-up smoke grenades which instantly and completely obscure visible light or something?

That'd be some shit; you're some random cultist chilling in your fortified position when all of a sudden artillery bursts over your head. You duck and brace for shrapnel, but instead of raining death, the shells literally rain darkness down on your foxhole. You hear your comrades start calling out in confusion, and then everything is drowned out by the thunderous sound of jump packs, the snarl of chain weapons, and the thud of bolters. Next thing you know, a seven-foot-tall phantom steps from the gloom, eyes ablaze, and crushes your skull.

Are you saying we should be Rave Marines?

Dropping super smoke grenades onto the enemy so that they can't see while the Iron Night can is actually a pretty fucking awesome idea.

>>47733914
I do too, desu. I just didn't have it saved when I made this thread.

>>47733915
Well, maybe we could do that. I mean, our thing is more terror than stealth anyway, so who cares if the blacklights give away our position?

Switch out the Red for a darker purple and I think we're on it. Especially if we go for the blacklight idea.

>>47733964
All marines have lights on their armor, the only difference is blacklights can help inspire fear over regular lighting.

>who cares if the blacklights give away our position?

The basic use of stealth on the battlefield is to use it only until you engage the enemy--after that, whatever gives you a psychological edge comes into play. The standard doctrine for this "Black Steel Charge" could be to obscure first, advance as close as possible, and then unleash the full volume of light and fire while relentlessly advancing. At that point, it doesn't matter that the enemy can see you, because if he does, it can only be a detriment to him.

>>47734062
The Black Iron Charge, I like it. Quiet quiet quiet, DISCO BISCUITS!
>>
So, do the Iron Night paint their armour in fluro colours to light up when they use the Black Iron Charge, or is that too silly/not intimidating?

How about this? You said you wanted the hands to stand out a bit, could change it if it's not to your liking.

Red chest eagle means he's part of the 3rd company, as standard.
>>
>>47731843
>While the most obvious, and easiest, way to force the enemies to fight in the dark is to attack them at night the Iron Night has other methods that the use when fighting at night isn’t a viable option. For example, with their technological knowledge it is usually not too difficult for the Iron Night to disable all the lights on an enemy ship, and have been known to almost always board the enemy during void battles they are caught up in. Due to their connections with the Adeptus Mechanicus, they can also be found in possession of special ‘smoke’ grenades, nicknamed Rave Grenades by the Imperial Guardsmen who worked alongside them, that completely block out light from within and without the gas cloud they create, leaving everyone inside in pitch darkness.

>Another common tactic used by the Iron Night is to sneak up upon the enemy while dark and, once close to the appropriate combat range of their weapon of choice, activate their lights and charge while screaming. The lights commonly found on Space Marines cannot be found on the Iron Night, however. Instead they use a peculiarity known as a blacklight, a somewhat uncommon piece of tech that dates back to the very early years of mankind.

Added some more text to their tactics.

>They have a few Librarians whose psychic power is uncontrollably routed to their eyes

>It makes mere photons unbearable after a while

>To compensate they gouge their eyes out

It would be pretty badass after a while, especially if they could "share" their blindness with their enemy, possibly reducing a target's attack range to melee for one or two turns.

The Slaaneshi cultists (including the Emperor's Children we hate so much. Especially them) must love fighting us, with all the bright colours and shit to stimulate their senses.

They might not like the darkness stunting their vision though... maybe we have chemicals that deprive people of their senses if injected that we use when hunting our arch-enemies? Or something like that?

The whole thing is that they can see in the dark, >>47731843

Our Occulobes are oversensitive, which gives us 'night vision' but makes it hard for us to see in 'daylight', but are otherwise fine mutation-wise. Because of this Bionic Eyes are the most common augmentation to be seen in our chapter.

If you are going to do this, have the decency to read what is already established.

That is an inconsistency, but hey, is there any reason gas attacks can't also be used? Maybe these guys also make use of some special virus bombs or something that targets the Children specifically (or targets stuff indiscriminately, it's all good). Perhaps this is also what the Officio Assassinorum took issue with?
>>
>>47735111
Hence why I suggested something that nullifies the senes. That would be torture for Slaaneshites, right?

Also, what are you suggesting pissed off the Officio Assassinorum? Us being colourful, or us using chemical weapons?
>>
>>47735308

I was thinking the chapter's weapons and/or tactics were the issue. Maybe the weapon which denies one's senses has some Warp connections?
>>
>>47735353
You're in danger of making things too complex, they already have a tech-emphasis, if we add a sorcery and anti-slannesh stuff we may as well roll another chapter.

The stuff about being a hybrid of Iron Warriors and Night Lords is really good. Don't go adding more to it with warp connections and specialist anti-slanneshi stuff.
