1st: Ask youself, do actually have to be Bard? Do you have to actually VMC? Can you just RP the nameless one without mechanical benefit?
Skald and Evangelist Cleric can both do primal song. What's stopping you from playing those class?

2nd: If you knew you really HAVE TO sacrificed your feats for flavor, why do you still want to try and play a feat-tax heavy combat style? Why don't you just grab a two-handed weapon and power attack?

This isn't really Bard problem. It's your build problem.

Is there any good live play Pathfinder sessions that I can watch/listen to to learn pathfinder better? I want to run pathfinder games but I'm afraid of running them like shit. How spread out are the rules exactly?

>Attacks of Opportunity
>Combat Maneuvers
>Saves
>How to attack
>How to Skill Checks
>Casting
>Area of Effect Measurement
>Status Effects

Is there anything else I'm missing? I want to be a fair rules tight GM, I also want to use rules for Poisons, Deseases, and Travel. I also want to study the cost of things in the books so I can accurately guess the cost/value of things. I also want to be able to get my head in the right place to actually keep track of how society might work in those areas.
>>
So I am building a Demagogue bard with Nameless One called The Songbird. In addition he as the Branded curse meaning he has a massive brand somewhere on his body. Does anyone have any kind of character art that could fit this, because I'm coming up short.
>>
For a hidden blade battle maid, should I replace thrashing dragon for anything through tradition? shattered mirror sounds kinda cool, if only for reflected blade style and the 3rd level stance. I'm already switching mithral current for riven hourglass.

Any other archetypes/talents besides innocuous servant that I should look for?
>>
>>47640535
If you're afraid of running like shit, what you could do is find some equally new players.

Then you can all learn together.

Anyone here who can help explain something to me?
I recently got a figurine of wondrous power: golden lions and need a little help with something.
With the pounce skill my lions get a free rake as part of the pounce okay sure.
So technically as part of a pounce (natural attack) then added rake attacks.

1. Anyway, so can my lions use claw attacks and then use the rake for more claw attacks?
Or does it have to bite rather then use claw attacks as part of the free rake.

2. If my lions use the bite and then succeed on the grab do they still get the free rake which is usually only allowed as part of a grapple on the following turn?

3. Do rakes require a hit roll or do they automatically hit? I would assume using them outside of the grapple as part of a pounce requires an attack roll as usual with a -5 to hit.

Help.
>>
>>47640556
>A creature with this special attack gains extra natural attacks under certain conditions, typically when it grapples its foe. In addition to the options available to all grapplers, a monster with the rake ability gains two free claw attacks that it can use only against a grappled foe. The bonus and damage caused by these attacks is included in the creature’s description. A monster with the rake ability must begin its turn already grappling to use its rake—it can’t begin a grapple and rake in the same turn.
>>
>>47640535
The only thing you really, absolutely need to have memorized to run Pathfinder are the rules for the drakaina's supernatural abilities, specifically Impregnate Surrogate. Everything else you can mostly ad-hoc and muddle through. If you're the same anon who played 5E in the last thread, just take anything that makes sense, is fun, or is functional from 5E and assfuck it sideways and make sure martials can't touch it. Pretty much identical at that point.
>>
>>47640546
You already get Shattered Mirror, look at your class features.
>>
>>47640571
Pounce: When a creature with this special attack makes a charge, it can make a full attack (including rake attacks if the creature also has the rake ability).

No, because every party has a moralfag who's gonna throw a bitchfit over necromancy.

First all, bard guy, I suggest answering >>47640440 's questions.

Second of all, I'm not quite sure what you want to do. If you just want to be decent at ranged, I'd recommend perhaps the rubato archetype from Path of War: Expanded. It has fluff involving the Primal Song, though it gives up spellcasting. You can invest in Use Magic Device to make up for it, at least...

Here is the link to the playtest documents: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tbBIinA90VQW8eriM0TZTZCbHsSU6cdv7_44J8w564s/edit?pref=2&pli=1

Of course, I'd recommend buying the PDF, but it's up to you.

If you GM also allows homebrew stuff, I'd recommend taking a look at my Elemental Blast feat: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18O_7C6sM9xnxHsH-pUrV8uI97rLWgZPhCOQx7KwafCw/edit?pref=2&pli=1#heading=h.rqfjgs90tf03

I mainly want to be a Demagogue for Fame & Incite Violence. As for VMC it actually doesn't even effect the build until level 3 when I loose a feat in favor of a revelation.

I could simply back off on the combat feats and be a more pure caster, however at level 1 as a bard it seems very lack luster as I only know two spells and on 20PB it's too costly to get up to 20 charisma for 3 slots per day. I give up inspire courage +1 to be a demagogue.

>>47640623
While he said he is open to 3PP by approval I would prefer to not play a PoW character. I understand the appeal but am really PoW'd out after playing a Zealot. The class really disillusioned me towards DSP.

I did. Shingeki No Bahamut Genesis is a pretty good fantasy anime. I don't know why /tg/ and /a/ barely talk about it.

Maybe if one of those attacks has Grab, otherwise there would be no way to activate rake.
>>
>>47640709
Ok I'm gonna change my thing. I do want to be a nameless one, but demagogue is negotiable. I am rather attached to the fame ability and want to be able to gather and incite mobs, but skills may simply be enough for that.

Any suggestions on alternatives? I may move to Skald. How can one get Fame?

The description of rake says 'in special circumstances, typically during a grapple'

If the creature itself says it gets the rakes on a pounce, it gets the rakes on pounce.

How would one go about making this fine guy in Pathfinder? We're moving away from the super serious campaign to a much more light-hearted one.

For those unfamiliar a bard that can't play an instrument for shit but can conduct the spirits of the departed to play for him.
OR
A musically based Necromancer who focuses on ghosts rather than zombies. It depends on how you perceive it really.

I planned on doing that in the first place but I was hoping there might be some feat or archetype for the concept. I knew it was a long shot but it doesn't hurt to ask.
>>
>>47640968
I know if 3.5 is allowed there's a feat or something that allows you to give a -10 debuff to saves to a single target until your next turn. I think there's also a method of applying morale and mind affecting spells to undead, threnodic or something in pathfinder, but I want to say there's a 3.5 version as well.
>>
how was your session /tg/?
>>
>>47640709

Fair enough, I'm sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience.

Maybe you can take my feat anyways, and change it so that it's a sonic blast that deals 1d6+cha damage, add in the enhancement to your instrument (if any) when you have enough money, and get semi-decent dexterity so you can hit with it.

Just give up on ranged idea. You doesn't have enough feat to make it good. That means your combat choice is lock into Twohanded weapon.

If you want to be famous (without trading Bard best class feature for absolutely nothing), just use Perform check?

> 25 Memorable performance. In a prosperous city, you can earn 1d6 gp/day. In time, you may come to the attention of noble patrons and develop a national reputation.

> 30 Extraordinary performance. In a prosperous city, you can earn 3d6 gp/day. In time, you may draw attention from distant patrons, or even from extraplanar beings

Also give up on the ranged idea. You don't have enough feat to make it work. Pick up Longspear or something and two-handeding it.

I still don't understand why do you think it's a good idea to come in here crying "Bard is bad". When you try to give up every class feature for thing that can be done via RP. You could use Verbal Duel or Social combat to incite a mob and I am pretty sure there is a spell for that too
>>
>>47641262
>If you want to be famous (without trading Bard best class feature for absolutely nothing), just use Perform check?
I don't replace all of Inspire Courage, just Inspire Courage +1, so I'm 1 behind other bards.

I very much don't want to use a spell as that's simple mind control, which is pretty damn evil if I use mind control to incite violence. Very hard to justify a righteous cause.

>Also give up on the ranged idea. You don't have enough feat to make it work. Pick up Longspear or something and two-handeding it.

I dropped a castle on the mid-boss BBEG

>Be alchemist
>Me and my party own our very own fort after exterminating the previous residents - they were insurgents AND death cultists.
>BBEG's comes knocking in uninvited
>plans to take revenge for ruining his plans
>Is a goddamn PoWarder with an army of Myrmidons, beats our shit badly
>No choice. Our party leader the Cleric tells me to proceed with plan E
>Me: I hate Plan E
>Warsoul: We could always come back to this place anyways
>Cleric and Me: Clearly you don't know plan E
>DM: What's Plan E?

Plan E is something me and cleric came up with in case we ever get besieged and invaded in our own fort: Our cleric prepares a Word of Recall - sends everyone to our very first home in rusty dagger shanktown, while I activate the trigger word that causes every foundation of the fort to collapse from a delayed trigger bomb trap. It also sets off smoke bombs and sonic alarms to make escaping a whole lot more difficult.

So, while we did kill the midboss, we also lost our fort.
I hate Plan E. I spent the most gold fortifying and defending that fort.

triple-gestalt.

We started as normal gestalt, we met the god of wind, and he gave us all Soulknife. So we're all now soulknives in addition to whatever we were before.

Sucks for me as an Armorist. DM said he'd let Aug Blade stack with, rather than override my Blaster armcannon, but even still.

That's a lot of fucking stuff to keep track of that I didn't want to deal with, and I hate having abilities I'm not using.

The worst bit is that there's a lot of things there I'd appreciate. Psychic Strike works well in conjuction with Charge Shot, and getting heavy armor proficiency means I get back the Arsenal Trick I spent on it, but I'm still overwhelmed and kinda a lot bugged at being made a class I didn't want or pick and what the fuck am I supposed to do with that much fucking enhancement bonus of weapon qualities?

A combination of high charisma, adrenaline, and boredom. We'd worked with the devil in the past, so we called her in to help with this planar portal. Due to a malfunction a couple rogue elementals came out, which we promptly dispatched, but another energy surge teleported us into some kind of facility. The rest of the party got scattered about, and the devil and the Bard got stuck in some kind of a prison cell. After a while it became clear they were stuck in there until someone released them, so they did the first thing which came to mind.

Anyways, I also have a question and wanna know if anyone can help me. i'm redesigning my homebrew world from the ground up and am thinking of going high magic/high fantasy this time around. I was wondering if anyone had or could think of suggestions for level 1-2 magic items, stuff that could be bought in character creation or after the first time you get paid for a mission. really minor magic items.
>>
>>47640407
Once. The grognard in the party professed to be cool with it, though his character hated but tolerated it (okay, cool, good opportunity for roleplay I guess).. Until he abruptly converted to the worship of the setting's anti-undead goddess, multiclassed paladin, and started smiting my undead every time I raised them, to the point where he'd literally turn his back on the enemy midfight to fuck with me. I tried to compromise, I offered to reroll, but he just kept insisting it was fine and why was I making such a big deal out of it?

Eventually, one of the other players got in a screaming match with both of us (mostly him) over it, because grognard had a choice between "save other party member from certain death" or "smite my skeleton". Guess which he picked.

That group dissolved soon after. Not just the game, like, none of us are friends anymore. The whole social web melted.

Traveler's any-tool, Sleeves of many garments, and Robe of Infinite Twine are all extremely useful but inexpensive items that your party is liable to get a lot of use out of.

Spellslinger feels bad because it ditches so many of the base class's abilities for the gun, at least that's what it seems like to me.

Eldritch Archer Magus, though, is great fun, and is merely a paradigm shift for the class rather than a downgrade. you can even pick up a gun with your bond.

But yeah, what >>47642221 said. the bond is the same deal as your spellbook - either protect it or play another class.
>>
>>47642230
The idea is putting 1 level in Spellslinger for Arcane Gun ability and Mage Bullets ability.

Eldritch Archer for the rest.

Mage Bullets stack with Arcane Pool. Which in turn, increase the DC of your spell via Arcane Gun.
>>
>>47642221
>>47642230
How do you protect your bond item then? I usually just pick familiar... Spellbook is easy because there is a bookplate of recall

Sounds like a decent plan, though I've always hated the concept of dips. It's not something I'd do, but I can certainly see why you'd do it.
>>
>>47642294
It's not the smooth 'integration' of abilities we'd want of a character, say, slight aegis growth with mostly being paladin.

But being a class level based system, dips are how we gotta do it.
>>
>>47642292
Basic precautions: always having it to hand so it can't get stolen, getting it adamantized ASAP, tying it to your wrist, locking gauntlet.
>>
>>47642292
Well first off, a bonded weapon is very rarely targeted directly, because Sunder is a rarity.

Second, you shouldn't be in melee to begin with. you're a ranged character on both sides (the type of weapon you use and the spells you cast) and thus melee is when you have a bad time.

And third, when you're not using it, store it in an extradimensional space - a handy haversack is an excellent investment for any adventurer.

Never let anybody else touch it.

And finally, enchant it with Impervious. It only costs 3000 gold, after all, making it a valuable investment if you never want to give up your weapon (and you don't).
>>
Is there anything you can do with an Item Crafting Feat if you lack a Caster Level?

I ended up with one due to Archtypes (PoW bard trades away spellcasting but Geisha Bard gets automatic Scribe Scroll)

As far as I can tell, it's just a dead feat?

Once, a necro wizard//ravenlord harbinger gestalt, a half-elf travelling around to gather and discover all he could on the art of necromancy.
We had started at a low level, so nothing had set off the paladin in the party (Nor I did plan to go on the undead-raising route anyways).
Sadly, game died shortly afterwards.

Most GMs have long come to understand that they only ever get *one* "all your weapons are gone" from things like leaving them with the city guard to enter, or 'at the door' or other such affairs. And the state of things after the "one time" will be much more dangerously paranoid.

Some parties will then go so far as to actually treat such requests in the future as overtly hostile acts and respond in kind - bad for plot advancement when they immediately hand over the ammunition on the spot from the request. "You can't bring those in here" has been slotted in the same place as brigands popping up and screaming "Your GP or your HP".

So, most GM's don't.
Sunders are often a risky proposition in rocket tag, so it doesn't happen all that often; you're more likely to lose a familiar to scouting than to even encounter a sundering attempt let alone successful ones.

In other words, for the MOST part your bond item is generally safe enough that it's a boon with a potential drawback, NOT a drawback with temporary mitigating boon.

So don't worry about it, just don't be too stupid!

The only time you should be doing item damage to your players is when you want to put the fear of god in them.
Also sunder in general is fucking lame, who wants to destroy the loot you're gonna get from killing the enemy?
Found a +1 longsword that with improved sunder acted as a +4 longsword or sunder attempts.

It's a bundle of modifications/additions to the Vigilante's warlock Archetype. It might turn into a whole class at some point, but I'm not really feeling up to trying to quantify all of the Vigilante's other features for a conversion just yet. Hello /pfg/.

I personally dislike Psions.
I think the concept does not elegantly mix with that of "regular" magic. What little I have read about psionic powers have not made me want to reconsider my stance or read more.

However, I like to believe that I am a rational being, and as a ForeverDM I don't want to waste opportunities for PCs or NPCs.

As such, I ask you this:

Make me like psions.
>>
>>47643777
Change the fluff, problem solved.
>>
>>47643751
Furry fujoshis of any class would compliment a lycanthrope, but I guess a furry fujo bard would be the most effective compliment-giver for it.
>>
>>47643751
I find Hunter tends to work very well, as the animal companion plus teamwork feats and wisdom bonus allowing you to do better with spells tend to give you things to work with.

Druid works for many of the same reasons as the hunter.

Any direct melee class with a backing in Wisdom is good. this means fighter, barbarian (and their PoW archetypes) and Stalker are all excellent choices.
>>
>>47643777
Here's how I fluff magic in my world:
Magic is, well, fucking magic. It's still magic no matter how you access it.
Some people have magical talent, some don't.
Among those who have magical talent, it may display in a strong manner, pretty much just turning their thoughts into effects (psionics). It also may display less strongly, requiring some incantations from them (spontaneous spellcasters).
Regardless of talent, enough training can also arrive at a way to access magic (prepared spellcasters).

And Wordcasting is just an archaic version of Spellcasting, mostly used by tribes and various primitives.
>>
>>47643786
>>47643814

The issue isn't -only- the fluff, I do not enjoy the mechanics; they bring nothing to the table except a sort of mana point system which does not fit imho with the Vancian casting canon.

Unless you mean to refluff the mechanics as well, but then why keep anything?

I guess a better question would be: what's the (best) thing that makes psions worth existing?
>>
>>47643831
>I guess a better question would be: what's the (best) thing that makes psions worth existing?
Mechanics. They are balls to the wall awesome.
They might look weird at a first glance to someone who isn't used to them, but they're the most enjoyable magic subystem I've ever seen for D&D offshoots.
>>
>>47643831
>which does not fit imho with the Vancian casting canon
Good. Vancian casting is shit and unfun. The only time I'm willing to put up with vancian casting is for spontaneous casters
>>
>>47643831
>>47643841
Also, do keep in mind those mechanics might take some effort to pick up and understand, but the result is entirely worth it. They're much better than Vancian mechanics.
>>
>>47643871
Eh. they don't take more effort to pick up and understand than the base system, and if you have any familiarity with shit like MMOs or most standard roleplaying games, you already know half of the system, since it's basically a mana system.
>>
>>47643649
Well I already have shadowshooting on my gun. That's the limit of our weapon at character creation.

I guess I could take reliable instead but then I'll have to get a feat for rapid reload.
>>
>>47643777
If you don't mind a dev opinion (and admittedly one that came late to psionics), I can post one later when my son is asleep. If not, no biggie.
>>
>>47643955
Fuckin' DSP shills everywhere
>>
>>47643841
>>47643871
I am OK with Vancian mechanics. They're very flavourful, and they fit with the worlds I build for my players.
From what I've seen of psion mechanics, they are very similar to a mana point system, and I feel that such a departure from the "classic" magic system automatically requires another universe.

>>47643955
I'm here to listen to opinions so that mine can be better informed, oblige at your leisure.
>>
>>47644036
And you'd be wrong.

The vancian system is part of the reason that casters are ridiculously overpowered compared to other classes. Psionics, at least to a degree, lessens that.

> Reveal identify in good faith

>>
>>47644061
I think it was joking, Gareth.
>>
>>47644057
I agree that casters have powers unrivalled compared to other classes, but I manage them fine on my end; I keep them around because my head canon is used to Vancian magic by now.

As I am not looking for ways to fix the caster/fighter disparity, psionics do not gain any points there.

>taking anons literally / answering to inflammatory comments
You should know better by now.

I'm just getting into Pathfinder, and I always love books-o'-monsters. I picked up the Bestiary and Bestiary 3 with my core rulebook, and I see they are up to a total of 5 bestiaries. Do 2, 4, or 5 have any identifiable themes? Like, 3 seems to stock up a lot of Asian-flavored monsters, with kami, oni, imperial dragons, etc. Do they have any really key/iconic monsters, or cool original monsters?
>>
>>47644096
Listen, we know you're just trying to bait for a reason to dislike psionics. Either use it or don't, nobody here cares enough to seriously argue with you.
>>
>>47643777
It's just a casting mechanic difference from a sorcerer with funny names. It's effectively the same, but they get a little more customization in each individual spell's options - in exchange for having to essentially pay for a full Heighten on any blasting they do, since automatic caster-level-based damage scaling doesn't exist for them (although it is still capped at their caster level).
>>
>>47644126

>Spend a feat to unfucked your weapon when that 5% mandate hits, also using an action
Or
>Never randomly jam, and spend the feat to make reloading a free action
>>
>>47644175
Keeping in mind that the former means never needing to reload or get ammo in the first place. If you're going to list pros and cons, list all of them.
>>
>>47644175
>tablet's autocorrect goes fucking haywire and turns "jam rate" into "mandate"
>adds -ed to a word randomly

>>
>>47644193
Logically shadow shooting should also mean jam isn't actually a thing, since the bullets aren't real, but here we are. SS also means the enemy can succeed a pitifully low save DC to reduce your damage to minimum, right?
>>
>>47644000

>>
>>47644252

>>
>>47644252
DC 15+double enhancement bonus isn't too bad, all told, but it does depend on you putting a lot into enhancement bonus.

you also need to have a high minimum damage if you want to go with shadowshooting, but missing out on, like, 9 potential damage isn't generally a dealbreaker in a lot of cases when you're dealing closer to 50.
>>
>>47644274
>DC 15+double enhancement bonus

>>
>>47644283

>>47644294

>>47644274
It's a pretty good enchantment for what it does, but it's still kind of meh. If I were you, I would ask your GM if you could either just slap reliable on your weapon when you use a pool point to add an enhancement bonus, or REMOVE MISFIRE ALTOGETHER like this anon said >>47643644

Otherwise? Just... Put both Shadowshooting and Reliable on your weapon and suck it up. It's a total +3, but it's a touch attack, you're spellstriking with it anyway, and since it's a bonded weapon it'll only cost you 9k total.
>>
>>47644364
I can only choose one or the other at character creation those
>>
>>47644364
>9k
Actually, less. the neat thing about enchanting your own items is that you can impose restrictions on it to lower the cost based on who you want to wield the thing. a 10% discount for adding a skill requirement, and a 30% discount for adding a class requirement.

Assuming he did both, it would only cost 5670 for both enchantments to be added on.

>>47644036
Lemme preface this by saying I'm phone posting.

For me, the biggest draw of psionics is the flexibility, both in its fluff and in its mechanics.

Flavor wise, the themes of personal power, insight, and self-identity appeal to me. That idea gets expressed repeatedly; the Expanded Knowledge feat lets you customize your power list, while the power point system means that your style flexes how you need it to.

Mechanically, I enjoy the way that augmentation gives the feeling of mastering a power rather than replacing a spell with a new one - or even skipping the lower level ones entirely, which is an aspect of spells that bugs the shit out of me. Likewise, metapsionic feats provide a great feeling of personal growth and the refinement of one's techniques.

And the best bit is, this flex is balanced in a nicely thematic way - everything is pay to play. Whether it costs points, actions, focus, or a combination of the above, you never get a free lunch in psionics the way you do with spells.

Can expand on thoughts if you have questions or replies, though phone posting is a bitch.

In my homebrew setting I took them back to their Tolkein roots with some Elder Scrolls thrown in; they're savage because they are industrialized, rapacious assholes with no care for their impact on the local towns, environments, or who they sell their arms and weapons to. A nation of smiths and factory workers who are also career soldiers, who only care about the bottom line.

I'm want to be a necromancer. How do I do that /pfg/ ?
>>
>>47645671
Third Party Sacred Necromancer class.
It gives access to All necromancy spells, there's enough variety in the class that I can compare it in flexibility to the Oracle.
To be honest, if I were ever going to be arsed to build a homebrew setting where people couldn't use all the magic, I'd use it as a basis for classes.
>>
>>47645671

What flavor of necromancer do you want to be?

A skinny mallgoth Hot Topic looking fuck? Sorcerer with necromancy spells.

Old geriatric fuck dark robes and a bad complexion? Wizard with necromancy school.

Santana Von Evilheimer, dressed in his dark mail of spikes and angst, brandishing a mace made from the skull and spinal column of his victims? Cleric.

Sundering is good on barbarians because Spell Sunder, is valid against many foes because a lot of enemies use mundane equipment worth jack shit, and becomes applicable against all equipment if your caster has [greater] Make Whole.

Assuming no DSP or 3pp allowed and Tier 1 is banned, what would your party composition be in a game with a fair but stern DM who is competent at mechanical design?

Pic unrelated, gloryborn wearing paladin.

It makes me genuinely angry that the vigilante is so good, and that Paizo will never redo the CRB and make all martial classes just be specializations/archetypes for the vigilante. Replacing the identity, appearance, and capstone abilities, and filing "vigilante" off the class is all it would take.

Name one martial class that wouldn't be better off by having the social/combat talent design and a minimum of 4+Int skill points a level.

Can a fighter survive in level 20 game? I'm not talking about contributing and helping - willl it be possible to not die at first encounter?
>>
>>47645864

With the right build and magic items, yes. Although why you want to just survive seems like a pointless endeavor for the very reasons to mentioned, and anyone can build a turtle of layered defenses.

I will do my best to fight, yet I never played at such level. From what I heard it will be impossible to combat in melee.

>why is there no consistency?
Probably because shadow shooting is a lot more useful to a gun user than shadowcraft is to a sword user, and thus it should either cost more for the same effectiveness or cost the same for less effectiveness.

A bloke who has his greatsword disbelieved is much worse off than someone who got their pistol disbelieved

Never got an answer yesterday, maybe I'll get lucky?

Forgeworks: If I add Expanded Damage Types to something that does half one half another (such as plasmathrowers, rockets, etc), does it:

>Add the expanded damage type to one: ie 2d6 F and B, 2d6 E
>Add the expanded damage type to both: ie 2d6 F and B, 2d6 E and B
>Split the damage 3-ways: ie ?d6 F ?d6 E ?d6 B

And in the latter case (hopefully that isn't it, as it fails even further against resistances and DR) how do you decide what gets the two dice if it's 4 dice?
>>
>>47646029
It's so fucking useless though, with always dealing minimum damage to everything.
>>
>>47645972

Read guides, lots of them. and the mechanics. Understand party composition and how it works. Melee is definitely possible, anyone saying it isn't is a liar. The problem is it requires a casters to counter SLAs, flying enemies and other casters, barring your own magic items to assist with that.

Things like Freedom of Movement, Flight, Invisibility.. mind you, this can be used on yourself. Bare minimum you'd want a caster around to Banish/anchor teleporters and outsiders, dispel invisbility, etc. Swording never stops in D&D/PF, it just becomes harder as you play a game of 'counter-the-magic-defense'.
>>
>>47646122
When you deal 1d6+30, minimum damage is irrelevant.
>>
>>47646122
On average you're losing 2.5 damage if they pass for a revolver, and many, many monsters have arse for will saves. If you're using it to open up TWF with pistols it more than makes up the damage loss, and it can make its cost back pretty well, especially since it saves you a feat for rapid reload, or a dip for reloading while duel wielding.
>>
>>47645910

Mature responsible MILF paladin who teaches young men how to attract women and service them by using herself as a stand-in is a concept I really need to play.

She will guide those hips right to the moment she's pushing them towards that special someone.
>>
>>47645802
Do Cleric, Druid, Warpriest, Inquisitors and Magus count as martials? They fight in melee just as much if not more than a Rogue. We need better terminology.
>>
>>47646029
The pistol is shitty and required more feats to get online in the first place though, so a slightly cheaper source of infinite ammo helps level the playing field.

Greatsword don't really run out anyways.
>>
>>47646190
Warpriest, Inquisitor, and Magus maybe. Being a fullcaster at the very least should drop Druid and Cleric from the running.
>>
>>47646190
Classes split this way:
Casters are the classes with spellcasting who feel fighting is icky
Manifesters are the classes with manifesting who feel fighting is icky
Gishes are either of the two above who actually like to fight instead of thinking it's icky
Initiators are those who initiate maneuvers
Martials are those who aren't allowed to have nice things

Under this division, all you mentioned are Gishes.
>>
Unchained Rogues just need to have full BAB and you can call them Swashbucklers Tbh.
>>
>>47646190
"Martial" generally refers to classes that have at most 4/9 casting.
>>
>>47646190
The latter of those are partial-casters, aka "Gish"

Cleric and Druid happen to be great at combat because Vancian Fullcasters get all the nicest things. They wouldn't need it, but they get it.

"Gishes" tend to be middle of the road, and thus make great partymembers. They can do a lot, but not everything (see Wizard), and not everything better than everyone else (see Cleric and Druid)

"Martials" are those with no powers whatsoever, or utterly fucked by them and limited in what they are.

The Monk. The Rogue. The Fighter. The Barbarian (who can do a bit better).

Rangers are an example of a really shitty Gish. Alchemists are a good one.

It's not about fighting in melee, it's about whether or not you have game-altering powers. Martials are those without, unlike a Psionic Warrior.
>>
>>47646288

Even a Wizard/Sorcerer can do melee better with the right spell selection and feat build. Shit, some of the Sorcerer bloodlines are almost entirely about self-buffing for melee.
>>
>>47646301
I did say "Vancian Fullcasters" get all the nicest things...

Tenser's an asshole.
>>
>>47646288

The Barbarian can at least sort-of contribute around a (relaxed) tier 1 character, if you go balls out on your build optimization.

>>
>>47646301
Self-buffing builds are fucking awful in terms of action economy until you get Time Stop, to be fair. The fight is already decided before they bring their power to bear.
>>
>>47646353

It has some setting ideas I like but the over-all picture is like, a worse, bland parody of Forgotten Realms with social justice shit and degeneracy thrown in.
>>
>>47646404
The real trick is to buff before the fight actually starts. That's part of why Timestop is so good, but minute or hour long buffs can also be good for that sort of thing.
>>
>>47646404

>he doesn't prep all of his Extended buff spells in advance from within the safe confines of his Rope Trick nappy dimension
>>
>>47646339

What's wrong with Lymnieris? She's the Empyreal Lord of responsible prostitution and protecting the innocence of virgins.

If you want to get deeper into it, her association with prostitutes has to do with her disgust towards forced prostitution or even perhaps young men and women having their first time with an older servant or paid stud/lady, which is in and of itself a life-changing moment.

If I had to pick classes and archetypes myself for a full (4-5 PC) party? Assuming your rules and 20-25 PB, 2 trait +optional drawback, and background skills:
>Aasimar Synthesist Summoner
>Half-Elf Grenadier Alchemist
>Tiefling Hexcrafter/Bladebound Magus
>Human Inquisitor, archer build
>Kitsune Sorcerer, Arcane bloodline, otherwise fully specced into enchantment

What kind of thing my group would actually pick? We already fit under everything but the background skills criteria right now, so it would probably wind up similar to the above.

It's weird because in 3.5 it was universally agreed that Crusaders had the BEST recovery mechanic, since you didn't need to pause or do anything to keep your flow up, you just initiated a neverending stream of strikes and boosts while sitting in your hilarious lockdown tank stances.

But in Pathfinder it really seems like no one enjoys the Mystic even though I think it might actually be MORE lenient - the base class has 7 readied and 4 granted by level 6, and you can feat that to 5 granted, which IMHO is nuts - every three rounds (IE, about as fast as you can use the fucking things) you get a full cycle. This is arguably on the level of the Warlord's "take your Charisma bonus as a luck bonus to beat on someone and then let's just hand that out to your entire party as extra damage" gambits.

It's more bookkeeping sure, but it's not a LOT of bookkeeping at the end of the day. Also, the Mystic's other class features are GREAT, glyphs are incredible, your Maneuvers hit harder and DC higher than everyone else most of the time, and if you really have to have a shotgun initiator Gunsmoke Mystic beats out the Desperado by a bit and the poor Vigilante by a million miles (why they don't have a gunplay stalker art I have no idea, you can't be a gunslinger if you can't beat the reload; technically you only need one shot a round, but you want that shot to have boosts and to stay mobile, so you need free action reloading).

I think the Mystic is really good. Picking a couple maneuvers to NOT be granted and then flipping a coin is hardly strenuous, or you could make index cards, which you should fucking do anyway so you know what your shit does without trawling.
