Welcome everyone, new and old players alike! This is Tundra civ, a civ thread series in a fictional, non-fantasy setting where you play as the rulers of the White Republic, a nation in a world similar to our own.

We've dealt with internal issues in the last few years, making administrative reforms, improving the economy and investing a lot of money into ongoing special scientific projects. Scientists have also formulated a hypothesis that life in our world - one of two natural satellites to a gas giant - is in fact not native to this planet.

Nuclear science has been advancing as various institutes across all four continents work tirelessly. It seems the Kaichou are also making good progress, being at our level in theoretical physics and chemistry, though we have more materials and funding to play around with when making practical experiments.
Scientists believe the energy released in a controlled nuclear fission reaction can be harnessed to generate massive amounts of power, which can potentially have many uses. This research continues and we are investing heavily into it, any further government effort would most likely yield little result - with time we will gain more.

The Faith has been strengthened as old temples have been restored, new cathedrals have been built, radio is employed widely.
Most chinks in our lands have also accepted the faith of Ancestral Elementalism, becoming closer to us. The chinks have had their own animalistic, celestial and monotheistic religions over the centuries. Aside from the 27~ million living in our lands, there are another 60~ milllion in the SA and NPU, some of which have also accepted our religion, while others are either sticking to their native faiths or have taken to worshipping the Kaichou God-Emperor.

I feel we should attempt to create biological and chemical weapons rather than nuclear ones. As they are easier to stockpile and cheaper to produce but i feel we should still advance nuke tech where possible.

It seems likely that tanks and artillery will win, but if we go for artilerry better have good air support to recon enemy positions.

Personally I think that better tanks and aggresive assualt corps will be more useful then air power. While air power is needed, a higher priority should be placed on forward assault.

Tank designs have evolved and the latest generation of armor comes in a larger variety, with light, medium and heavier tanks, while a variety of other mechanized forces are being pioneered.
The air force has been improved, becoming better institutionalised as a separate branch of the military - the White Republic Airforce. The latest generation of combat aircraft are metal-clad monoplanes with machineguns, cannons, rockets and bombs. Various designs exist - interceptor and multi-role fighters, light, medium and heavy bombers. The military is also employing transport planes - currently being used for air-dropped supplies, with some minor experiments being conducted into aerial deployment of troops.

You underestimate the situational advantage of artilerry against all defensive position, Tanks and artilerry are not to be thinked one against another but together.
exemple:
>enemy is taking defensive position over a hill
>an air raid destroy their artillery
>we setup our own and breach their defenses
>tanks charge with infantery and escort them to infiltrate the defensive position
You see it's all teamwork when you ask me to value one over the other it's a bit crazy because in reality we need all, the only reason i choose C is for deployement of bombs, tanks,troops and supplies with the capability to strike virtually anywhere and scout at long distances. It's something that tanks can't do but without tanks our infantery would be fucked, so let's say that i'm happy with our choices.

If we focus on the Air Force to a point where we rely on it more then ground forces to take enemy positions then we won't be in a good position. Artillery, heavy armor and soldiers can still take an enemy position unless if it is in the most extreme of climates. Aircraft would be useless in a stormy environment.

I think Vajni's geographical location is not exactly the best and adapting an antique city to modernism might cost more than building an new one, it's probably wiser to build a city to the south near the equator, the aded industry near a region where aircraft can be built will help us reach space.

Vajni does sit in between a number of other cities and if it was rebuilt then it would serve as a major hub of transportation. There is also a symbolic meaning in rebuilding Vajni. It was once the largest city of our enemy but we tore it to rubble. Rebuild the city in our image and we will be seen as not just conquerors but also builders. The Romans themselves rebuilt Carthage and it went on to be a huge focal point of the empire. Even Justinian considered moving the capital from Constantinople to Carthage.

That is illogical. We have cleared the needed sections of the city to allow for passage. Therefore nullifying that advantage.

As to the symbolic meaning to rebuilding Vanji. No, we lack the reason to do so as we have previously proved ourselves to be builders and conquerors. Thus I see no reason to destroy a unending example to our armed forces history and our nations unending will to never be challenged.

If we rebuild Vajni then it will be a hub of transportation and therefore turn into a center for manufacturing such as automobiles for example. Building over Vajni can even be seen as a second conquest since we would be ereasing the Pajit all but in the history books. Why would it be a hub for transportation? We already have the needed infrastructure for all of our transport needs built in and around the ruins of that god damn city. Building a city there would only lower the capabilities of the network in that area.

As to auto-mobiles, how can you promise the presence of an industry when it is impossible to state it will move there (excluding the gov-owned ones).

Lastly, it wouldn't be a second conquest as we would merely destroy the ruins and that would be it. The only resistance would come from the archaeologists whom are the reason the city was preserved in first place (and to serve as a reminder).

Why have a portion of the city as ruins when we can just build around the ruined city for god sake. We don't need to destroy their ruins, just build around the things!

It would serve as a manufacturing hub since it lays in between a number of other cities. If all the railroads in the south and east of the grand river link up there then it will encourage people to live there and for manufacturers to set up residence there. Eventually companies would move there since it their products are easy to move there. That's why cities like Detroit and Buffalo were major auto manufacturers, they sat at important points at the Great Lakes.

As the diplomatic conference is held on our territory, security measures are completely on-spot.
The President has arrived with an entourage of all four Elemental Orders and his aides. A member of the Kaichou Imperial Court leads their group, the Sunset Alliance has also sent representatives.
The Head Statesman of the New Pajit Union, Lajmur Sivdig, leads his own delegation to the New Millport diplomatic conference of 1194.
After all the beginning formalities are done with, the NPU presents its offer.
"We have information on the Organisation that would be extremely valuable to you and we wish to end hostilities between our states, but for that we must also gain something - we wish to have parts of the territory we surrendered in the war back. Our population - over 50 million people - are struggling. We need more living space to sustain ourselves. We are open to negotiating on the specifics, of course - we would be willing to fund any costs for citizens of your nations that would want to move out of those territories. If we can reach a mutually beneficial agreement on this conference, we can build a better and more peaceful world."
How shall we proceed with the negotiations?

I don't disagree with that but you are assuming two things;

1) That we aren't already fulfilling the want for cars in our nation, which is quite likely considering the period and general lack of consumerism in our nation.

2) That the Kaichou and sunset alliance don't produce most of the worlds want for cars thanks to their looser and generally worse laws on workers rights, health and safety, etc.

After a day of deliberations and negotiating the details, we've settled on a new territorial rearrangement most are happy with. Any remaining reparations will go on to cover the costs of these changes, for now the NPU remains a demilitarised state.
Lajmur Sivdig has now presented us with the information he promised
"The Organisation has four leaders remaining. They have always been communicating by proxy and have held great sway over various political circles - both capitalists and the communists at the InSoGue, which was practically their junior organisation. Many of the InSoGue's leadership have been arrested - a split among the socialists has led the more moderate ones to accepting the current government, while the radicals still resist. Many are in hiding or are leading guerilla forces, with which the NPU police is having trouble due to the limits we have imposed on them.
The Organisation has indeed held great sway over the pajit - both in their imperial days and in the newer era of the NPU. They are now on the run, reports have shown that the radicals have left their headquarters in Paitras in a heavily armed convoy where some believe the Four themselves may be."
As relationships have improved, the NPU has agreed to co-operate with us in any actions we would be willing to take against enemies of their state, so long as said actions do not infringe upon the NPU's sovereignty.
News of successful peace negotiations are well recieved around the globe.

Well, I didn't expect a roll that high. Over 50 would've been them getting away and dissapearing for a while, but two rolls in the 90s means Kek demands a confrontation.
Strike Force Otter has spotted an unidentified armored convoy - they have refused to identify themselves and have opened fire on us! The two forces are of similar composition, geared for long-range travel, highly mechanized and equipped for desert conditions

The enemy cought us in surprise and they are packing surprising amounts of firepower! Their tanks are a lot stronger than they look, their coordination is great and their infantry is using powerful weapons, some of which are making short work of our own armor!

Around that time Eyerdar High Command started getting reports from every Region - terror attacks, strikes, riots - all aimed at key logistics points, railroads, harbors, highways, radio towers, telegraph wires and airports.

All our armed forces were put on alert and dispatched to deal with various alerts all across the nation. Similar reports are coming in from our allies as well, there's fighting in the streets of Xikou and Shinkoto, but it was a couple of days after the beginning of this crisis that the Foe's main target was revealed - the Kaichou Imperial Capital of Kotoima!
The first group of enemies was already planted into the city and during the night they attacked various key strategic points - an hour before dawn unidentified airplanes were spotted above the city - from them soldiers dropped down with parachutes and joined in the attack! Radars were disabled beforehand, allowing this to happen. Many of the enemies seem to be former soldiers themselves, it would be hard to explain their training and combat skills.
We've also got reports of heavy fighting in Xikou, the Sunset Alliance's Government Palace is under siege by rebels, though the army is on its way.
We've got various attacks across our nation that the regions are dealing with, but nothing of such scale as in Kotoima. What shall our course of action be? The situation is changing with every hour.

It was too little, too late. The rebels had an aircraft carrier and a number of other ships and submarines. They had fighters as well - not enough to stop us, but they were enough to slow us down by several hours.
By the time we cleared through the blockade, our forces landed to find a burning city. The elite strike force advanced, fighting for a bit against some rebels until finally establishing radio communications with the garrison - the good news is that the Emperor is safe.
Our forces met with his own and for the first time we lay our eyes on the Kaichou God-Emperor and his elite guards - they are all clad in full suits of armor, covering their faces, but there's members of the Court around who affirm their identities.

Again, we are too late. We landed outside the city and approached the target area, where enemy ground forces were already entrenched. Heavy fighting ensued - we're pushing the enemy back slowly...
And then came the sound - metal against metal, like a giant gate opening, then the sound of some kind of....engines?
And then we saw it.
Those military-purposed dirigibles that nations built in the past decades - we called them "airships", but if one were to put an actual ship into the air, it would look a lot more like what is gaining altitude over the ruins of Vajni right now.
In size it is bigger than any dreadnought that has been put to sea and yet it is propelled in the air by some means. It has a massive arsenal of weaponry - main batteries, flak guns and whatnot.

We're now officialy venturing into sci-fi. Imagine Independence Day, but in 1940. That's us right now.

For the first time in our history we will be fighting a battle to save our capital, Centerhold. The enemy is coming our way and the only thing standing between the giant flying battleship and the Council Palace are the fighting men of the White Republic. We will use everything at our disposal - every gun, cannon, ship and airplane we can muster.
The ship is flying at an altitude of around 4 0000 meters right now, approaching Pashkanek. It may rise even higher, or choose instead to continue at full speed towards Centerhold. It's not too fast, we estimate that if it keeps its current course of gradually gaining height and advancing speed we have up to 15 hours. Maybe.

The orders have been given. Centerhold will begin evacuating, the entire airforce is being called in as well as any ships we can get to the river on time. We're deploying all ground troops available and are readying our experimental missiles.

The evacuation of Centerhold is going far better than expected and defensive preparations couldn't be any better either - our men are ready, willing and prepared to fight. Ships are being deployed along the river, heavy artillery has been converted to aim for the skies.
A fighter sortie was able to distract the doomship's flak cannons and our experimental missile was able to hit one of the main guns!A satisfying explosion rocked the ship, which is now gaining altitude rather than speed.

Several ships have started opening fire from the river as the doomship flies above Bridgemark. Though we are taking casualties, our air sorties are paying off as we've landed several successful hits on the doomship, which is nevertheless continuing on its course, gaining more altitude(6000m). Some of our anti-air capabilities are more limited now, but we are damaging that beast! At its current speed it needs 10 more hours.

Now that the doomship has entered the Corelands, it is the target of all our amassed anti-air firepower. An entire fighter wing had to be sacrificed, but we managed to calculate the approximate speed limit for the barrier and lobbed a missile in at a lower than normal speed, in order to get past the barrier. Now we have the means to take it down, another push will give us a shot at victory!
