Welcome everyone, new and old players alike! This is Tundra civ, a civ thread series in a fictional, non-fantasy setting where you play as the rulers of the White Republic, a nation in a world similar to our own.
Check out the pastebin for story, technologies, stats etc (updating it right now)
http://pastebin.com/t7gWa2pa
And an archive of previous threads if you want to skim through some of them.

Previously on Tundra civ:
We spent a bit of time on internal development and strengthening our military, after which a series of important events took place which defined The Crisis of Summer in 1194 After the Exile. Negotiations between the Axis nations and the New Pajit Union were successful, which led to the last remnants of the Organisation being flushed out of hiding - or so we thought. What occured were a series of clashes, covert operations and terror atacks around the globe, during which the Organisation secured a key to a Vault underneath Vajni. From there our enemies unleashed a mighty warmashine - an enormous flying battleship, which we dubbed "the doomship". It was only through the sacrifices of many thousands of soldiers that we were finally able to bring the doomship down, just as it had entered the outskirts of Centerhold, our capital.

The doomship blasted a number of towns and cities on its way to Centerhold, which was its ultimate target. We were able to shoot it down before it could reach the Coucil Palace - it crashed in the southern industrial district, which was thankfully the first to be evacuated beforehand. Emergency responce crews are there and are working on putting out fires and rescuing any civilians who are still there.
Little has remained from the ship, its wreckage is strewn across the entire quarter.

Also, the world map's proportions aren't right, I make a new one every update, it's just there for a sence of relative locations.
The NPU was given parts of its former territory back, settlers were compensated for having to move away. The pro-white government of the NPU is being cooperative and abiding by the terms of the post-Great War treaties. They revealed the information they had on the Organisation, which led to the entire event chain afterwards in the last thread.
Currently the fate of the Four remaining Spirelords is unknown. The doomship crashed into Centerhold with no survivors.

The public is disturbed by the discovery of such advanced technology - the information on the Spirelords was held as a top government secret and even then all we knew came from second-hand sources. The flying super-battleship with its kinetic barriers and whatnot is taken by many as proof of what we had until now only hypothesized.

We also got to see the God-Emperor of the Kaichou at last - though he was entirely clad in his black armour, he is in fact a person - some theories were held that there was no God-Emperor and that it was merely an idea propagated by the Imperial Court. The Emperor sent reinforcements, an entire airfleet as well as some special kind of ballistic missiles that were able to disrupt the electronics of the doomship. He personally fought against the Spirelords' agents and is now overseeing the repairs in his capital, Kotoima.

Martial law is in effect in Centerhold, army units and researchers alone are authorized to enter the areas containing debris.
During the battle we completely destroyed the ship's barrier and propulsion systems, but from the remains we may be able to gain insight on the basic structure of the ship - its hull is made from metal alloys, whose strength and durabillity surpasses anything our metallurgy is able to produce at present. That, at least, will be something we can learn from.
Research into the remains of the ship's hull is commencing.
In Vajni we've located the entrance to the Vault - there must be something valuable inside, since the Spirelords did not destroy it after leaving. The entrance is located in a steel and concrete reinforced underground complex, parts of which seem to have been built many centuries ago, before architects of today could construct skyscrapers and bunkers. The complex leads to massive gates made from the same material as the ship's hull.
We've kept in contact with the Emperor, who's told us not to disturb those gates "The key I spoke of - it is made of several pieces, one of which was in my posession until all of this happened - it was their target, the only way to unlock the gates to the Vault. If you somehow manage to break through with brute force you'd find nothing of value left, there are security measures in place. To gain access one would need the Key, which the enemy has right now."
"You should know something - this isn't the only Vault. The key opens the way to several locations across the planet - all located underneath the Spires the Organisation built."

The Emperor had a PIECE of the Key. The other pieces were held by the Organisation. All the things that happened with the terrorist attacks across the world last time was a diversion so they could attack Kotoima, where they took the Emperor's piece. The Key is either destroyed, lost or in the posession of the Spirelords right now - their fates(the four of them which remain, beings from the Emperor's time with knowledge of this advanced technology) are unknown.

Victory, Babaduad, Vajni and Mikson were quickly secured, having a rough idea of where to look, we were able to discover their respective underground complexes. Kayans was also secured, but there's bad news from Ahmanud - it seems the Spirelords are still kicking, as their forces had snuck into the city, eliminating any opposition and secured access to its Vault. Upon the arrival of our own special forces, the Vault's gates were closed once again - they're either inside or they got in and out already.
The Eye of Sand complex entrance has also been secured.
It appears at least one of the Spirelords is alive and has the Key at present, but other than guarding the Vault entrances, what can we do?

Nuclear missiles make more sense then, since their ship are protected by kinetic defenses and the alloys they use are more dense.
Event titanium alloys would get utterly obliterated by one nuclear fission missile.
We'd just have to ask KE for they supersonic missile and slap a nuclear warhead on top and then there's not way doomship would even cause troubles.

The first nuclear reactor has been built in the Victory City University - it is a working, but still experimental reactor. Work continues, with generous state subsidies.
Rocket science has not only created superior ballistic missiles, who move at faster speeds, with more accuracy and at a longer range. The first plane powered entirely by jet engines has also successfuly been flown for longer periods of time - it can gain speeds far above what the normal shaft engines can provide, though current models are still wonky in their handling and practically unusable in combat.
Let's do a bit of F as well, then.
For over a decade we've had analog computers, but now scientists in Centerkot, in a joint White-Kaichou project, have constructed the world's first working programmable, fully automatic digital computer. A great step forward in the field!

1194 will go down in history as a historic year, but now our people celebrate New Year's Eve of 1195 and look to the future.

Industrial technology has progressed over the years with superior construction techniques, more advanced assembly lines that allow mass productin of tools, weapons, vehicles.
With knowledge gained from studying the ruined ship's hull, we're now able to produce industrial qualities of more advanced alloys that use steel, aluminum and most importantly - titanium! The ship's hull was made from a highly advanced titanium alloy - we are not fully able to replicate an alloy of that same strength, but it has jumped our knowledge of metallurgy at least a decade ahead. Titanium ore is precious and its refinement and the alloy's production are highly expensive, but its uses are many.

Our infantery can't hold against them.
We need new light armament for our special forces for them to be useful and our response time is too low as well.
We need to upgrade our chain of command for fast reaction.

While small arms, artillery, tanks and combat aircraft are naturally advancing at a slower pace, we've focused more intently on two other areas.
We've developed superior ballistic missiles for combat and strategic usage, improved our chemical weapons and begun the program to weaponise nuclear fission reactions. A number of experimental technologies in various fields are being accepted - amphibious vehicles, paratrooper experiments, more mechanized infantry, remote-controled mini-tanks that explode.
Now let's take a look at the special forces we have.
We've got the rangers - highly mobile, primarily used for scouting and strikes on high-value targets, they are a modern "light infantry", better armed and equipped than the average soldier.
We could make improvements on the four Elemental Orders, however.
Traditionally, the Stormborn have been elite marines and that is a role they will continue to fullfil, but we can take a look at the other orders.
The Njordgales are not considered as a frontline unit - they are our finest secret service organisation, focused on espionage, assassination, sabotage.
The Maargard have traditionally acted as "heavy infantry", being focused on the defensive and acting as elite guards.
The Blitzkriegers have been acting as elite infantry, our best shooters and experts on firearms, with aggressive methods that pioneered stormtrooper tactics during the Great War.
Now for a bit of creativity - are you fine with our special forces as they are(we'll just keep giving them the best toys and training we have) or should we make some changes? Should we create new secret service agents and/or change the roles of some of our orders?
Be creative.
>>
>>47578235
My suggestions are that we should add more Njordgales, and maybe like Modernize the names for our Special forces, we aren't vikings.
>>
>>47578283
Well, those are religious(elemental) orders, based on Water, Air, Earth and Fire.
I'd suggest either creating a mechanized order or two or converting one of the existing. They are all infantry right now.
>>
>>47578235
I think that the Blitzkreigers should be expanded upon. They serve as elite troops that assualt enemy positions but it would be much better if they a had their own armored branch to support those assaults. We should also do similar with the Maargaard by giving them an artillery branch since field artillery is invaluable in static defensives.

>>
>>47578319
Well, a Mechanized order should be extremely well trained, especially in tanks, and they should have access to the best tanks available, and maybe they should be able to ask the factories to make a tank that suits them (Within reason)
>>
>>47578338
I agree with the Blitzkriegers, We should combine it with my idea and make tanks custom made for them (Within reasons), same for the Maargard.
>>
>>47578406
We could also add engineer divisions to both Maargaard and Blitzkreigers since they need to demolish and construct fortifications. However I think that Maargaard armored divisions are less needed since they're defensive troops. We still have normal army units for armor support in static defense.

All right, so here's what's changed - we've established paratrooper regiments as part of the general army, modernised equipment, improved training facilities for our special forces.
The Ministry of the Interior has control over both police and internal security teams and special services, while the Njordgales focus on more high-profile and military matters.
Maargard shall continue to serve as defense-oriented troops - elite infantry and engineers - while the Blitzkriegers shall be mechanized, serving as either motorised infantry or elite tank divisions.
Stormborn have gotten some new toys with amphibian combat vehicles.

While the government was working on an expensive project to revitalize the damaged lands, we've got bad news coming in.
Scientists have started detecting some underground electromagentic readings at certain frequencies. The Kaichou have also reported the same and soon afterwards we've got news from the Emperor: "I've run my calculations and there's only one thing that could be - they've finished and activated the global underground supersonic transport network. The underground complexes they have access to are linked only to the nearby ones, this network was a project that was left unfinished before the Cataclysm - it connects all of their secret hideouts across the world as well as the Vaults. They now have access to every one of them. Thankfully, the tunnels don't connect directly to the interior of the Vault - a security precaution - but they can now directly reach locations across the globe and assailt the entrances to those complexes. Now, the really bad news is that they broke through the guards in the Eye of Sand complex and have gained that Vault's contents."
As we were communicating, we recieved yet another report - the Kayans Vault has been broken into as well.
We've reinforced the defences on the three unlooted Vaults.

A & D
We've expanded the ranks of the standing army and introduced a new weapon - the assault rifle - which will gradually take over the role of the submachine gun. Semi-automatic rifles have become the standart for most infantrymen in the last years, machineguns have evolved, as have pistols.
Snipers are being trained by the army, using modified (mostly bolt-action) rifles to act as sharpshooters. Rangers and njordgales also train in sniping schools.
Anti-armor weaponry has evolved, with a variety of grenades being employed as well.
Millitary command must adapt to the modern battlefield - while armored units may rule the open fields with their mobility and firepower and artillery are valuable everywhere, we've focused much on improving infantry tactics that can fit urban combat and the use of modern weaponry, which will allow the infantryman to remain at the core of our armed forces. We're also training for night combat and low-visibility areas, paradrops, amphibious combat - our men must be ready for any battle conditions in the ever-changing world.

>>

That would require breaching them. However we know the rail system terminates outside the vaults. Meaning that there must be external entrances we could blast open!

However I must suggest we have a very long discussion with the Kaichou's god emperor and perhaps inform our people that we knew of this threat but couldn't inform them.

The tunnel system is hundreds of meters underneath and it's not like it's everywhere, it's a tunnel. Will we commit ourselves to this action or focus on strengthening ourselves?

There are seven known vaults - the Spirelords have already breached and accessed Vajni, Kayans, Ahmanud and Eye of Sand; We're guarding Babaduad, Victory and Mikson.
Vajni had a doomship, but we don't know what the others have. The Vaults can not be broken into - any forceful entry would activate a sort of self-destruct sequence as a security precaution, according to the God-Emperor.
The Global Underground Network is separate from the Vaults and it is what we're targeting right now.

We find the remains of some of our rangers - bullet wounds, explosion, suffocation - gas masks are at the ready.
Advancing forward, the Strike Force is met with incoming fire, but we were ready for it. With armored support, heavy equipment and gas masks, the enemy's chemical weapons couldn't get to us, but we are now locked in a fight in this underground tunnel.
The enemy is well armed, most likely assault rifles - surprising accuracy and firerate is coming from them.

We sent another strike force down and have called in reinforcements.
Our communications are being jammed, however. After a few minutes, soldiers return - a single half-track, battered, carrying wounded and dying men. The officer driving the vehice is the only one who's not wounded.
"It's full of them down there. Some sort of armored troopers - not indestructable, but damn strong and well armed, fearless and by the Elements - there's so many of them. They had assault rifles and there was some heavier fire support coming from further back, but I couldn't see it. A few of our men were still fighting when I...turned around. The Operational HQ is gathering in its attached forces - 9000 men are left after the casualties we've suffered so far. We have 20 tanks, some lighter combat vehicles and light artillery. Our communications are still being jammed, so radio squads had to be sent some distance away to report to High Command.
Our men are digging in and getting ready to defend the base camp's perimeter. About 30 minutes after the last survivors got out of the tunnel, the enemy appeared.
They are not all uniform - some appear to be men wearing large sets of armor, others apear to BE sets of armor - autonomous mechanical soldiers! They seem to be armed with automatic rifles, though their firepower surpasses our own(still early in their development).
With the difficult communication, we're sending another squad to radio HQ on the nature of the enemies - they've already sent reinforcements, but they'll have to know more.

The enemy's numbers are unknown - more and more are pouring out of the tunnel exit - our orders for now are to hold the line!

Our men are motivated - this foe is unlike any other, so all the more reason to fight harder! Smaller calliber bullets are almost useless against them and with rifle rounds it takes a whole bunch to knock them down, but that's not stopping us. HE and AP rounds from tanks and field guns are useful and so far we're suffering few casualties. We've sent word to HQ, air support is coming and the entire military is put on alert now.

Lt-General Malhus is leading a valiant defence against the ever growing armored tide, but they are now beginning to deploy heavier equipment - a variety of heavily armored machines - walkers and tanks. It takes our heaviest weapons to damage them and their numbers are only growing.
The first air support unit has arrived, thankfully! A wing of close air support bombers is delivering tactical strikes on larger enemy targets.

Has the fighting entered the surface? If so then near what city are we fighting?
>>
>>47582066
It IS on the surface, above the tunnel breach zone. There's not enough room in the tunnel for this many fighters. The location is in the western desert, west of Pirusat.
101vs113
The enemy's numbers keep growing. The good news is our comms are back on. Bad news is - reports like this are coming in from elsewhere as well! At least 2 other locations have confirmed similar reports, the entire army, navy and air force are being raised.
The enemy's numbers are overwhelming. Reinforcements are on the way, however - armor and infantry. Casualties are mounting, the enemy has AA walkers as well and our bombers have to be more careful now.
What shal Lt.Gen. Malhus do?
A.Hold his ground until the enemy is beaten back
B.Withdraw to more defensible positions to gather more forces - we'll get swarmed here!
C.As soon as reinforcements arrive, attempt to make a push forward to seal the tunnel exit.

Reinforcements have arrived - our numbers are reinforced to 34 000, with 150 tanks. Air support is with us, now we shall turn the tide and push the enemy back into the depths!
