Are the peoples of Akavir Ehlnofey descendants as well? And what the hell does it mean when the Kamal are called "demons"?

Please don't say "Akavir is a metaphor for the future", because that's just ridiculous, but "who the hell knows cause we've got fuckall concrete information?" is acceptable.
>>
>>43625693
Probably not. Most of the inhabitants are "Beast folk" even though they aren't treated as such. In fact, they seem to be treated with respect.

Kamal are probably either naturally occurring "monsters" or or just really violent inhabitants, basically Yeti-Nords. Don't know much about them.

How exactly is a an Altmeri commoner? It's just really hard to imagine an Altmer farmer to me.

I get that magic is a big part of their society and everyone knows a few cantrips, but something about the idea of using magic for farming is slightly realistic, yet slightly ludicrous. When is there a line between "Farmer" and "wizard-who-specializes-in-agriculture".
Also, how do the Wizard lords work out with commoners. Is it House Telvanni: Crystal-Towers-instead-of-Mushrooms Edition? Are wizards nobles, or are nobles wizards? If knowledge is such a valuable commodity, capable of elevating status through the power it contains, how could they make The Mages Guild, much less a library, unless magic is just something nobles are schooled in.
>>
>>43626170

If i remember correctly the altmer A): Keep lots of slaves, especially goblins, and B): Have a system of what is effectiveley serfdom.

Point A is from Tribunal i think, while B is referenced from the book that detailed the origins of the Mages guild.
>>
>>43626496
Though thinking about it, I think both of these points only applies to Altmer society as it existed a couple of thousand years ago. So it's a bit like saying that the US depends on slaves for it's agriculture since it did back in 1836.
>>
>>43624747
So. What do i just give you the coins for the bottles?
>>
>>43626496
I thought slavery was outlawed everywhere in the empire except morrowind?
>>
>>43624747
So what exactly happened to the moons during the void nights?
>>
>>43626533
No, they still have Goblin slaves from what I remember. Just no slaves of sentient races.
>>43626496
Yeah, I know about that, but I'm wondering how a serf would work out. Would magic still be a thing? Could they elevate in status by becoming a wizard, or are they all wizards to some extent?

Magic in the elder scrolls doesn't really translate well to a DnD style understanding. Literally everyone can decide to drop everything and practice magic and to some degree succeed, but few have the oppertunity or resources to do so.

At least, that is my understanding.

>With the insularity of the Summerset decisively broken, many Altmer, particularly the young (which among the High Elves is a fairly loose term), began to take a more critical view of the rigid heirarchy [sic] of Altmer society and its strict cultural xenophobia.
>At the time the Crystal Tower was built in the Merethic Era, the Elves of Summerset had a relatively egalitarian society, though social stratification slowly developed into a rigid hierarchy of classes over the millennia.[3] The Wise (teachers and priests) became the highest echelon, followed by Artists, Princes, Warriors, Landowners, Merchants, Workers, and enslaved beasts such as goblins.
>Gradually, as the society grew, social stratification increased. A hierarchy of classes began to form, which is still largely enforced in Summerset to this day. At the top are the Wise, teachers and priests, followed by Artists, Princes, Warriors, Landowners, Merchants, and Workers. Below Workers were the beasts, such as the enslaved goblins, who the Aldmer used to perform the jobs beneath the dignity of the very least of them.
Goblins do the farming.
Apparently art is really important, to where gangs of Artists are challenging the rules of society, which sound like the wet dream of any Liberal Arts student who read a book on socialism.
Why don't they like Dibella, then? Not good/ancestory enough, or the fact she may be Y'ffre?
>>
>>43626823
Dibella might be YiffYiff?
>>
>>43626823
If artists are over "princes" then I would wager that "princes" means more "magistrates, bureaucrats" rather than nobility and rulers. The ruler is the ruler, might be a warrior or an administrator or a priest or an artist and probably bits of all that if they're a well rounded ruler.

First off, Don't bring furfaggotry into this.
Second off, yeah. I remember some Bosmeri or Breton text that connected the two. I'll look for it, and see if it's canon or ESO.
>>43627039
I figured as much, that in a land where everyone knows their lineage, that most nobles are petty and impotent compared to The Wise, who would be more akin to Congress or Parliament. Obvious nepotism would happen for closer relatives, though.

From what I read on UESP while binge-lore-ing one night, the altmer are no more or less socially diverse than anywhere else. They have wealthy, poor, merchants, sailors, mages, Knights, fighters, wanderers, warlords/lords, morally ambiguous magic folk in spooky caves, etc.
The difference is they're almost all altmer, and by extension, magic is only a good bit more common than one might see in Morrowind. It's not a divine plane of existence, they aren't gods you know? Their greatest and most unique structure got 9/11'd in the oblivion crisis, so it's even more tame. Even thalmor don't think they're gods, just the best race in Tamriel. Granted that isn't all that far off.
Hell the Glass Tower was built as a symbol of racial solidarity, and because of class disparity, it was admired and beloved as an icon, like the Statue of Liberty plus the Lincoln memorial. Which is why it was all the more terrible for them when it fell. The altmer had a hard life.

Is it just a slow start to the weekend, or did that Dragonbreak on Tuesday fuck everything up?
>>
Has anybody actually played a "pacifist" (only kill when necessary) run of any of the games? I'm thinking of trying it.
Basically,
>Illusion (for Charm, Paralyze, Calm, and Demoralize)
>Mysticism (Absorb Fatigue, mark and recall, Interventions)
>Alchemy (Make potions for Speed, Health, Fatigue, Magicka, and profit.)
>Mercantile (Selling potions, buying low)
What else? Should I bother with unarmed or sneak? Speechcraft? Maybe Alteration for Levitation and Open?
>>
>>43633406
Unarmed, in Morrowind at least, knocked enemies out rather than killing them so I'd say that's a good choice.Speech or Sneak to help avoid fights all together.
>>
So, I'm planning on running a game of UESRPG with my group but I have a few questions.
1. Would the time setting have any real effect other than existence or not of the Dwemer?
2. Should I allow them to roam the continent or should I limit them to only one province?
3. One player thinks the elves, all of them, in Elder Scrolls are incredibly stupid and shouldn't be around, or something similar to that. He met the idea of most races being either Man or Elf, a simplification I was using very hostilely. Should I try and convince him to be less hostile or encourage him to mantle Pelinal?
>>
>>43635166
>1
Probably not, unless you're doing something pre-Red Mountain
>2
That's a matter of how good you are at making things up on the fly and if your group can be trusted to keep things at a reasonable pace and not muck about walking in circles.
>3
Probably the former. Manteling is a pretty complicated process, and doing it "correctly" would require hijacking the player's character to a degree.
>>
>>43635205
I was planning on pre-Red Mountain actually, what would the problem be with that? I just wanted to have the Tribunal be around as an option for worship.

And the mantling thing was a joke, I meant him the player not his character. I meant encouraging him to make a character that hated elves as much as he did.
>>
>>43635247
Nothing really, but a lot of what the dwarves were "really" like comes from biased (Vivec, Calcelmo the Dwemerboo, Yagarn) or apocryphal (Tales of the Dwemer, The Temple, Vivec again) sources, so anything before the death of Nerevar and the binding of the Dwemer as the skin of Numidium is going to be a bit tricky, though the dragonbreak could help cover a few holes here and there if any pop up.
>>
>>43635310
Shit, I meant pre-Red Year and I thought that's what you were talking about too. That era shouldn't cause problems then right?
>>
>>43635330
Oh, no that's not a problem. I was thinking you meant around the time of the War of the First Council rather than just before Morrowind.

The guard armor from Daggerfall looked like a simple cuirass and bracers with a coif and greaves. The style is pretty indefinite, but it feels like a simple English design. In Online it looks like a stylized version of French plate-mail from around the 16th century.
>>
>>43638597
Admittingly I like it, hopefully it looks the same on qt Breton girls
>>
>>43638597
The scales on the sleeves seem pretty pointless and the hips are just painful looking but otherwise seems ok. Helmet I definitely recognise as a reinterpretation of something from Daggerfall.

I actually quite like the old quite plain designs (though not all in Daggerfall were really plain despite the graphical limitations), gives a nice contrast to the overload of detail and protrusions style that became commonplace.

They're both plate, I'll give you that. Apart form that, no, fuck no, that's just another fantasy design. It isn't really based on any historical style. And it's not like there's really any specifically French style of plate armor in the 16th century to begin with.

>>43638676

Okay so lemme see if I've got this straight

You've got Anu and Padomay, Stasis and Change. Their interaction begets the various Anuic and Padomaic spirits, the Aedra and Daedra, though at this point they're all just et'Ada. One of these is Lorkhan. Lorkhan transfers a bit of his Padomaic essence into Aka-tusk, the most Anuic spirit, making a mess of him, and cons everyone into creating Nirn as a way to escape the endless cycle of interplay between Anu and Padomay and get to keep their forms, getting the help of Magnus to design it. The Aedra land on Nirn, the Daedra choose to stay in the void. They all land at the site of Ada-Mantia/Direnni Tower, but quickly realize that Nirn is draining them of their power. Some of them accept this and become the Earthbones in order to survive, giving up their power to establish the rules that Nirn operates under. Others, like Magnus, bail the fuck out and end up opening holes in the sky to Oblivion on their way out back towards Aetherius. The remaining Aedra get pissed off and lynch Lorkhan, tearing his heart out, but this was all part of his plan and they can't finish him off because he's linked with Mundus. Then at some point (possibly pre-Mundus?) the Marukhati Selective tries to take over Aka-Tusk's position as the all-maker, but they fuck it up and end up shattering him into a million little pieces, which are Akatosh and the Dragons.

How bad did I fuck this up?
>>
>>43643286
Yeap. Supposed to be a Thalmor Ambassador. In my opinion, this design is better than Magic Nazi Hugo Boss Golden Black 4E200 Series Limited Edition Robe.
>>43643317

>>
>>43643336

>>
>>43643317
To be fair, they are described as fair-skinned. I always interpreted that as pale-yellow (Think Asian model who uses whitening cream, but more yellow.)
The games, however, went from Yellow, with almond shaped, brown eyes, to Yellow Humans, and back to gaunt, yellow, Jay Leno-chined Asian with gem-colored eyes.
>>
>>43643359
Fair enough.
>>43643332
I wouldn't say it's bad but there are some problems. Lorkhan and Aka-Tusk were never entirely separate entities. Think about it, AKA is Time, Lorkhan is the unstoppable flow of time and Akatosh is the absolute inevitability of time.

Lorkhans motivation for deceiving/inspiring/persuading et'Ada to create Nirn is not certain.

Marukhati Selective bit is completely off. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Alessian_Order
>>
>>43643332
Pretty much correct, except Aka and Lorkhan are the two aspects of the same being (Aka is time and Lorkhan is space, togheter they're the representation of space-time), hence Lorkhan soultrapping Aka in his heart.

Also the Selectives wanted to remove the non-Akatosh aspects of Aka from existence (they had a raging hateboner for elves and couldn't stand the idea that Auri-el the elves worship is a different name/aspect of their beloved Akatosh). Their little ritual retroactively broke Aka into multiple separate gods, and also caused a Dragon Break that lasted over 1000 years.
>>
>>43643317
Only because they're the "Bad-guys" who want racial purity.

So the sun is a hole to Aetherius that Magnus made when he bugged out of reality and the stars are holes made by other spirits following his example. These holes allow magic to flow into the world right?

If so, does the day/night cycle affect magic? Like magic is more powerful during the day since the sun is letting in more.
>>
>>43649408
Some magic is effected by the day/night cycle, such as the Burning Moons enchant and the magic disease that causes vampirism, but for the most part the small holes left by the Magna-Ge seem to have roughly the same impact as the big one left by Magnus.

Same reason why the heroes in Sovngarde can do as such. Greybeards are on an entirely different level of Thu'um than others, they sacrifice their own voice to be replaced by Thu'um. They live by its dictates, they don't commandeer it like the Dragonborn does.

There is no way Ulfric has such a metaphysical importance.

So yes.

I also think the Ka'Po'Tun are just a splinter group of the Khajiit. I'm pretty sure they are connected.

They even have martial arts and warrior monks in Elsweyr. The Cats probably travel to akavir once a month and tell nobody about it, since they're assholes.

>>

Because Skyrim's races shouldn't be canon.
Sort of like how Imperials don't receive a bonus to speech, but are apparently the best healers instead of Bretons, who now have a bonus to speech.

Another thing that weirded my out was Nords getting a bonus to Restoration and Bosmer getting the best Alchemy in Oblivion.

Morrowind had the best racials, the only problem was that Altmer didn't have mysticism, which is culturally important to them. That was mainly to make Altmer glass-canons, while making Bretons defensive/utility mages.

Not sure if you're still around or not.

The combat can definitely be a bit on the clunky side, but it isn't as bad as you think once you've got some practice with it. It shines best in smaller engagements when you can really have fun with the special effect system. Larger engagements can work, but they can become unwieldy if you aren't running with the optional NPC combat rules in the bestiary and are instead trying to handle everyone with the same level of detail as the PCs.

Did you have any specific fears about the combat? Is it the way the cycle works? Or how special effects function? Both are pretty different from the more traditional style of combat we had in first edition so I can understand where you're coming from.

Download the construction kit through steam. Launch it.
Go to data files, and choose the base game, which should be skyrim.esm (or oblivion.esm). check the box near it.
Load everything up. you don't want to have an active file.
Play around with the box that has all the object records in it. It should be a box with things like magic, actor, items, etc all in it, with expandable menus.
Find your race you want to modify in that box. There are a lot of races in it, but the playable ones should have similarly templated names.
Go into that race's record by double clicking on it. Another box full of stats should show up.
Play around with the tabs in that box. Eventually you'll find their racial bonuses. Change them to your heart's content.
Save your entire project as a new ESP. Name it something you'll recognize.
Set it to last in your load order, start a new game, and see if it worked.
If it didn't work, you edited the wrong race, or didn't enable your mod.
>>
>>43660940
You're mostly right. Basically it works like this:

>Everybody has a certain number of AP (usually 2)
>Proceed down initiative order taking turns
>One action per turn, which burns an AP
>Once everyone has gone once, if anyone has AP left then restart the cycle (but you can't act if you have no AP)
>Can burn AP out of order to make reactions

It's all in chapter 5

The first tower kept mundus separate from oblivion and aetherius, but when second tower was created ( from heart of lorkhan) the time started to flow from aka to lorkhan. from this moment on things started happening on their own as time was linear.

MK intended for ALMSIVI to be a Tetragrammaton-style name to reference the ALMSIVI.
