Anyone running a SR game that could use one more?

Been itching for an SR game the last week.

I'm primarily looking to play SWN, any of the 40k games I'd like to try (I've only played DH), and I'd love to get into Shadowrun. These aren't set in stone and I'd be happy to join any group as long as I was taught the rules.

I may be shy with a group off the bat, but once I get comfortable I tend to get loud. I don't intend to do this, but I often speak over other people and I am generally a louder person.

Bit of advice: Even if you aren't planning to GM, if you see someone in one of these threads who'd be compatible for the same game, get in touch because you can then just have one person post in this thread saying "hey, we have 4 players, looking for a GM" and any GM who's scrolling through will probably think WELL ISN'T THAT CONVENIENT.

How would you feel about playing Swords & Wizardry? (It's a clone of 0D&D. I can teach you everything you need to know in like 10 minutes tops.)

I'm thinking about running some kind of game tomorrow at around 1:00 EST (which I think would be 10 am your time) and if it goes well, working out a time for a weekly game.

If you respond in the affirmative, I'll add you on Skype.

Homebrew setting. You are playing as a 'tribe' of one the last known groups of humans in the entire galaxy ruled by aliens. Vaguely anime-ish. An equal balance between mystery, combat, interaction and exploration.

A few inspirations include FTL, Rick and Morty, Mad Max, Cowboy Bebop.

For GURPS, I prefer modern and somewhat realistic games, although Sci-Fi and Wild West-era settings are good for me as well. Will also play fantasy and historical settings.

For Pathfinder, anything goes, I find both high rp city intrigue and wilderness/dungeon diving interesting.

Proficient enough with both systems.
>>
>>47378834

See this is what tickles me pink about these threads. GMs post intermittently, players post frequently and repeatedly because they're all selfish pricks that put themselves first.

THEY want a game, THEY want to be catered too, THEY don't care who's fun they're destroying.

Bumping the thread, but thinking it may be time to reconsider the ol' Gamefinder technique. Maybe have a GM only thread, so this system actually works.

Or maybe that'll just be crushed under the bootheel of seven-odd quest threads and a Pathfinder waifu discussion.

I'm wanting to experiment with sliding half of Kara-Tur off into Ravenloft and merging it with existing Asian flavored domains. Looking for more historical and less weeb, but I'm fairly accommodating, just try not to clone your favorite animu character. No idea how I'm going to parse races; there's a file in the link with the traditional OA races as well as my own notes.

Everything you should need is in the following link:
https://mega.nz/#F!HolEmC7K!Kz6OAQqvnuvYroBOp_Ozrg

Make sure to read through the houserules, please.

If you want to play, shoot me an email with a couple of character concepts after going through the setting materials (four pages of campaign stuff, two of houserules, shouldn't be that hard to get through) and we can try to set up a time to talk about availability, concepts, characters, more detailed local info, and/or what you want out of the game.

(To the guys who've emailed me if you see this before my msg; finally made it back online, still totally down to hammer out times, etc.)

Mostly homebrew setting, but the Evangelion feel remains mostly there. Don't bother applying if you cannot handle moderate to high amounts of anime.

Is your heart set on AdEva? Because I like the idea behind AdEva, but the mechanics are kinda frustrating already. May give it a shot anyways if you are, weeb games can be pretty fun in my experience. If it's just mecha you want, I hear Mekton Zeta is good. Otherwise, I'd definitely be down for an L5R game, so long as that's actually something you'd enjoy running.
>>
>>47393450

You're going to have to make a new account eventually though, right?
>>
>>47392564
How do you feel about new players?
Cause I'm pretty inexperienced but this sounds really fun
>>
>>47393499
Mekton Zeta is more a thing for Gendum games which are great but not what I'm looking for. I'm making a half-assed effort to salvage BMJ's shitshow of a ruleset because I love the setting and his work even if it's not the best work. Those houserules I'm testbedding are the roots of a "vBorderline" I expect to finish sometime before I die.

I'm mostly looking to run AdEva for said reasons but if it doesn't pan out I'm definitely willing to run L5R instead, should I get enough audience for it.

Superstition abounds in these neck of the woods, with mysterious and ancient glyphs sighted in numerous nearby areas. There's an old man who's determined to not let any meddlers get inadvertently injured or killed, even if he has to stop them 'for their own good'. The only ally available to you is the local camp counselor. Will you be able to take down the monster that's been stalking this remote and snowy locale for centuries, or will you end up as another meal for it to scrounge on?

At the moment the game primarily happens in the megadungeon next to a fortified town, which is the base area. It is a home made setting and I just finished detailing the overworld, so we are ready to transform to a proper sandbox any time now.

While some people who dislike long backstories may be actual autists who can't comprehend roleplaying out scenes that doesn't mean everyone who's against long backstories rollplayers.

I personally never write that much of a backstory outside of things to give my GMs interesting things to bring up because I make up things about my character on the fly. It takes a while for me to fully get into a character, and once I can properly establish a unique personality for the character then I think about how they got that way, throwing in things I made up on the spot about their backstory and making it look like I've planned the character all out ahead of time.

Also as a GM if I know everything about your character then there's nothing you can do to surprise me about your character's story, and that's fucking lame.

If that's how you want to write your backstory, then you do you, but that's no justification to enforce your method on other people. There are people that can write out an actual flash story for their character describing where they come from, how they got their powers, and why they're adventuring now, all with a large amount of NPCs for use as well as groups, factions, themes, and flavor.

A good backstory explains everything about why they are the way they are at the start of the campaign, and what they're trying to do.

But hey, maybe it is me that's wrong. Maybe I'm so used to shit DMs that can't think on their feet past whatever idiotic idea will give them a giggle that I have to painstakingly lay out exactly what makes my character tick and clearly label all the buttons and levers to engage with them because otherwise my character's actual motivations never come up and we spend all session talking about the finer details of smoking hashish in a stripper bar that we could buy out wholesale, just to burn to the ground for a night's entertainment because we have nothing else to do.

It would help greatly, TNG, if you'd have read a single sentence of the setting material before handing me six pages worth of "The Bible Black corrupted my soul", because like I said, I would have taken the concept with a short rewrite to make it in line with the actual setting.

>>
>>47398284
>>47404073
>>47399777
>>47392564

To further illustrate:

In the posted ad, and inside the materials from the link, I stated that I want a couple of character concepts and to sit down to talk together about concepts and characters.

What I got from others in terms of *concepts*:
>-Sohei Monk noble from Tu'Lung who firmly believes in Noblesse Obligue, so they'd be questing in the name of Good. Alternatively, maybe a more Ikko-Ikki minded character from Rokushima
>-Cleric(tempest) from Malatra(Laothan) who wishes to uncover a possible Thayan plot and/or defend its Kingdom
>A pair of Kurosawa inspired drunk-sads after a brief discussion on his films.
>A Dorjeloka noble and mystic sent into the mainland as an return envoy giving tribute to Tu'Lung.

Meanwhile, here's >>47397711's pitch:

>TNG: I'm real busy right this instant and don't have time to read your material yet, but I want to reserve a spot...and I can link you a character backstory I've been wanting to play (but I have a high likelihood of having to abandon due to your setting) I should be able to dive into your material in like... 3 hours?

Define "right players".

>>47409666
>Always wanted to play Exalted but could never make heads or tails of Sidereals.
Sidereals can be kind trippy, yeah. The TL;DR of it is this:
>Agents of fate
>Keep the Loom of Fate running, send people down to Creation to deal with anomalies
>Natural masters of martial arts. Their martial arts are special though because as agents of fate, they can fuck around with it a little via martial arts. Example: One kata they have lets them escape a fight by rewriting fate so that they were never there in the first place.
>Organized the fall of the Solars because they saw a future where they would destroy Creation. Bronze faction wanted to kill the Solars to prevent those, gold wanted to reason with them and manipulate them so they stop being dicks. Bronze faction won, but with the return of the Solars, the factions are split again.
>Magical effect they made after the Usurpation makes it so no one can remember them, and all documents about them disappear. This can be seen through by exalts and other supernatural beings if they roll high enough, but otherwise the only way a Sidereal can be remembered and interact with people normally is via a persona called a Resplendent Destiny.
That's the gist of it at least. There's currently no rules for making Sidereal characters in 3e though, they're still working on that. The core book is out though, and it's a huge improvement over 2e's clusterfuck of a system.

Holy shit, tell me about it. I've run two games on Roll20, both had multiple responses where they already had complete character concepts -- even though I stated we'd do a session zero to create characters together.

I ran a TMNT one-shot based off the grittiness of the original comics. All of the players were to be original mutant animals. I explicitly stated the game would have nothing to do with weeaboo shit, furries, or the later cartoons or movies. What happens? A weeaboo messiah comes down and tries to play April O'Neil.

> Weeaboo: I'm April O'Neil!
> Me: No, everyone is playing mutant animals. That's kind of what defines this one-shot.
> Weeaboo: Oh, okay, well I want to be psychic human like April O'Neil from the cartoons.
> Me: ... No human player characters. Anyway, do you guys have any ideas for an origin story?
> Weeaboo: This is what we want to do - we're all teenagers in high school. I'm a quirky cheerleader and we all get transformed in a school lab class accident!
> Other Player: Huh? "We" didn't agree to that.
> Me: /kick weeaboo

I then checked the player's profile and it turns out they try to play a version of a teenage psychic April O'Neil in every game they apply for. The player even records the games they run on Roll20 and posts them on YouTube. They insert their version of the April O'Neil character in every single game they GM as a "quirky teen" NPC.

You, uh, may want to define what you mean by weeb here. Because the system literally has a couple anime listed as inspirations for the game. There are giant mechs and ridiculous oversized weapons built in as part of the lore. If you just mean the sort of players that try to make half-Fae catgirl lolis or whatever though, then I can understand what you mean.

[22-May-16 7:18:22 PM] Austin Spare: It's a personal quibble rather than something that's like a dealbreaker.
[22-May-16 7:21:40 PM] TNG: considering I"ve already written it, I'd kind of prefer to keep it, and you've already you know, read it >_>
[22-May-16 7:23:46 PM] Austin Spare: I thought you said I was free to reject concepts; I didn't even say 'no', just asked for a rewrite a touch more in line with the materials you haven't read yet.

Anime fans aren't much worse than the average tg type.
They have their fuckwits on the net ("I want to play my meido waifu speshul snowflake thri-kreen!") as regular /tg/ers have ("I want to play a lesbian halfling teen to satisfy my fetishes and here is her 5 page backstory!").
>>
>>47410420
Okay then. Honestly, you shouldn't have to worry so much. There are good Exalted games, and there are bad Exalted games, just like any other game. If it's bad, you can just let the GM know you're not interested anymore and step out, but that shouldn't stop you from looking if you're interested.

I don't know of anyone who would want to spend hours with someone who publicly outs people over an anonymous complaint naming neither them nor you, and after a small pack of shit DMs have already piled against them. Without saying shit in private. And then links their file publicly.

Saying it was a bad backstory would be one thing. I can fix a bad backstory, or at least learn from it
Saying it doesn't fit the campaign in the slightest is one thing. I've had it for five months, I can keep holding onto it.
Saying I have to adjust it to fit into the setting is one thing. I said multiple fucking times I could do that.

"Delete 80% of this because I said so" is fucking insulting.

207

I got two hundred and seven emails of people shitting up my doc.

Now, I will say that it was sort of like a highlighter reminding me about the circumstances of initially writing the thing five months ago. And of the need to revise it into what my "memory" of it actually is.

But you're still a cunt.

[22-May-16 7:01:38 PM] TNG: I don't design characters that don't have someone worthy of being a BBEG's lieutenant
[22-May-16 7:02:01 PM] TNG: I wish more people designed characters that way
[22-May-16 7:02:14 PM] TNG: I view it as handing the DM an insertable plot module
[22-May-16 7:04:43 PM] Austin Spare: So, I'm going to be blunt, but nonjudgemental: If the extent of your knowledge of esoterica, occultism, and the Western grimoire tradition is from a futa hentai, I'm not sure this game is for you ... THAT SAID, there is some basic premise here that may be relevant to the game world with some revision and tweaks.

If you can cut your protag and antag to a page each (and I can help with spooky arcane knowledge) that's flavor relevant we can go from there.

Skype/discord/etc will vary per GM, and you'll obviously need a copy of the system's rulebook if you're intending to play it.
As for quality of games, realise that 75% of all your internet games are going to tank before they get off the ground, run one session and immediately go silent, or just be full of incomprehensible mouthbreathers who couldn't roleplay their way past a toddler. Know this going in. Occasionally you'll find a decent game, occasionally you'll find an amazing game. Occasionally you'll find a shit game, but the people in it are decent so you go on to have a decent game with them later. But for the vast majority, life is pain.

Hate to derail the thread even further, but everyone's lurking now so it needs to be said.

Turtling up because you perceive slights that aren't and lashing out in response is a super unhealthy attitude to have in a medium where you can't actually gauge someone's intent through nonverbal cues. The way that conversation went makes it seem like this fella slapped you upside the face when all he did was warn you that if your shit was sourced from where he thought it was sourced, you might not be happy and if it wasn't, you had some good roots that could be worked into the setting proper.

That's a good GM right there. He's not stonewalling you, he's guiding you to a middleground. But now we're here, you've started a smear campaign, and there's a chance people will just scan this and not take in the full story.

Shame.

And when you do finally find some good players or GMs after searching through all the dross keep in contact with them even if the game peters out or eventually ends. Then next time you go to run a game or go looking for one you have some pre-vetted people to ask.

>>
>>47398612
The way i've been seeing it, the backstory is just a way for the GM and the other players to know what to expect and how to treat the characters of the party, so an actual story can develop from everyone roleplaying their characters, and one doesn't say something to the other that would "realistically" result in the other character never talking to the first one again, much less adventure together with them.
