And the set went on sale in April.
Which means the fat pack booklet, which reveals all of that, has been available for more than a month.

But it gets better. Avacyn's Unmaking was spoiled in mid March. The full art was found almost a week before that.
So I suppose two months is a much more accurate statement.

Nahiri showed up on innistrad, asked sorin why he hadn't showed up to take care of the eldrazi again, sorin said he didn't know or someshit and was busy, nahiri got all butt hurt and was like you will rue the day yo.

Teisted Markov manor I to a giant dildo with vampire bumping for her pleasure, built a bunch of weird shit across innistrad and is having something large built in the ocean by zombies Liliana is apparently controlling but portrayed ignorance to Jace about it, which may have something to do with the raven man.

Whatever is out in the ocean is calling something large enough that its actually shifting the moon off its path as whatever it is travels to the plane, while most of innistrad, including Jace seems to be going insane.

Avacy went nuts and considered humans corrupted and went about PURGE EXTERMINATE and nearly killed Jace and tamito until sorin showed up and started throwing angels through walls and shit. Avacyn was so insane she viewed sorin as a threat and then blamed him for her corruption and basically forced sorin to unmake her.

Funnily enough nahiri is being used as a staple in modern right now to get emrakul shit on the board as fast as possible and its highly implied she may be summoning him to innistrad, as she never explained how she stopped the titans by herself when it took two old walkers and herself to stop it last time.

Basically emrakul will show up, sorin will use the moon as a giant helvault to imprison it.

I think the raven man is actually yawgmoth controlling everything and is manipulating nahiri and Liliana and this might actually be a phyrexian invasion, but that's more of a tinfoil hat conspiracy.

They had actually killed Gideon in OGW, trapped Nissa in an endless oblivion, broke Jace's jaw among other things, but brought them all back because lolsuperfriends!

Ob got fucking shafted despite having by far the most entertaining story in a LOOOOOONG time
>>
>>47400352
Ok
So Sarkhan went to Tarkir where he DID NOTHING WRONG which resulted in the past changing and Ugin not being kill
Ugin went to Zendikar where Jace found him, Ugin was like 'yo, don't kill the Eldrazi' and Jace pinky promised him but was crossing his fingers behind his back, that sneaky faggot.
Anyway, they all had bonding moment over imprisoning Ulamog but then Ob Nixilis was like "SURPRISE FAGGOTS!" and freed both Ulamog and Kozilek
Anyway, Chandra rescued Jace, Gideon, and Nissa from Ob Nixilis.
They decided to team up becoming the Avengers
then they realized that name was taken so they chose gatewatch
Anyway, they challenged Kozilek and Ulamog to a mana eating contest by binding their entire forms to Zendikar, which wasn't a great idea
Until they used the mana outside of the titans as a det cord for the mana inside the titans
Ugin's pissed, the Gatewatch has threeways all the ways.
Jace goes to Innistrad, Avacyn went crazy balls
Lesbian Werewolf Hunters
Jace goes crazy balls
Church goes crazy balls
Jace is unballed by Tamiyo
Avacyn attacks them both
Sorin bursts down, has feels
Kills Avacyn
Everything rumbles and Sorin is like "Shiiiiit"
>>

>>47402571
I really want it to be a five-legged shrew
>>
>>47398653
It's okay, if WotC wants to keep bumping of beloved characters it'll be their funeral next, honestly the entire plot of SOI is so silly and convoluted and basically comes down to: Sorin was a dick to Nahiri, Nahiri is insane, Sorin didn't bother to check on her after the Helvault broke. Sorin decided to deal with Avacyn instead of the cause and causes Nahiri's plan to succeed while also killing his daughter and the one being that keeps his plane alive.

I don't know how anyone can be expected to take this seriously any more, I'm sad about Avacyn but after the latest story I just kind of stopped caring about the story at large, it's just a bunch of incompetent planeswalkers being assholes to each other.

But I guess, he HAD to.

Card P/T doesn't mean shit and changes with every iteration. Avacyn is also a 5/5 and a 4/4|6/5

Going by just the cards, Iona wins because none of the other angels get to enter play
>>
>>47404363
Avacyn still wins because, with the exception of Anguished Unmaking's flavor, she is fluff-wise indestructible. Akroma is such a pleb that she died from
a beheading.
>>
>>47404072
Either Akroma, Iona, or Avacyn.

But probably Avacyn. Though, as far as we know, Iona is still alive, even after a full Eldrazi invasion. So that has to count for something.

This, Sorin revoked her existence, otherwise she is literally un-killable. None of the other angels on her plane are even close to her on power terms, she killed the black-white angel and her entire flight solo and I doubt she broke a sweat. The only issue is that her power is tied to her plane similar to the Theros Gods, if she was anywhere else she'd probably lose to Akroma.

To be honest there are plenty of plausible ways for her to return, the question is whether WotC would allow her to return. I honestly don't foresee a conclusion with her staying dead being satisfying, they'd have to do so much bullshit to explain how Innistrad continues without her. So until someone at Wizards outright says she's never coming back I'm going to hope that she will because otherwise I can't bring myself to give a crap about the lore.

Sorin giving his spark and life could be enough to bring her back, especially if you assume that he might not have been able to destroy her completely, she has a deep connection to the plane.

Building off that it could be that he could only destroy her physically, something interesting would be if she became more like the Gods of Theros where she's only powered by belief now that she no longer has power from her form.

The cryptoliths could theoretically channel mana to the Vault to generate enough power to revive her.

None of these are really ironclad, they're just random thoughts I've had. In all likelihood Wizard's won't have her come back in EMN, if she comes back it would probably be in a future set as a reason to return to Innistrad. Regardless, I hope that it helped a bit.

Sorin made her back when he was an Oldwalker. Might be interesting if, since her power is no longer being used, he got that back. Might catapult him to Strongest Walker.
Don't think he'll go back to Old Walker strength, but if he became more powerful then some of the Dragon Walkers, that would be interesting.

Very, this is the guy who has lived so long and seen so much that he's perpetually bored, the only three things he cares about are his family(dead), his plane(screwed and getting worse) and Avacyn(he just killed her). That's the main reason I could genuinely see him giving his life to revive her, he really hasn't got much to live for now and it would fix his plane too. I believe Anguished Unmaking is the only art that shows Sorin with any sort of emotion that isn't indifference or annoyance, even when he sees Markov Manor he most just looks a bit miffed. I'd wager he feels horribly guilty right now, he killed his daughter for nothing because it just screwed his plane harder.

And with him dead, you could pacify the giant army of Every Nation That Wasn't The Thran Empire (and some parts of the Thran Empire) that wanted revenge on him for being a massive dick

I did kinda like the notion I saw posted a while back of the rebel dragons discovering the lost part of their wedges.

>A Dromoka dragon that decides "y'know, FUCK the collective, I don't wanna kowtow to mom for eternity" and throws in with the rebels
>A Silumgar dragon that feels the clan has gotten weak and decadent and forgotten what it means to be hunters
>A Kolaghan dragon who develops an attachment to the humanoids that "can't keep up" and discovers teamwork can make the weak stronger than a band of individual psychopaths
>An Artaka dragon that gets tuned into the Whispering and starts to think about things beyond eating
>An Ojutai dragon who grows sick of parroting Ojutai's dogma and develops empathy for the rebellion

Well Tarkir was a cool plane and it had a bunch of great cards. The wedge theme was fun as fuck too. It got really fucked over by it's last set though. With all that going on I feel like a revisit isn't just justified, it's downright necessary.

The fact that they switched from such a cool and diverse Wedge world to "dragons" is criminal.

Fat pack will basically tell you everything. Nahiri is annoyed because Sorin didn't help Zendikar then locked her in the Helvault for a millennia(according to Avacyn being in the Helvault is terrible, you're conscious but can't move or act, all you can feel is the mass of demons scratching you in the darkness). Nahiri decides to get revenge on him by inflicting the same on Innistrad, she needs Avacyn out of the way so she uses the cryptoliths to rape her mind, driving her insane. Following Mad Avacyn's lead the church starts an inquisition, other humans turn to demon worship, others join Thalia in rebellion. Nahiri is hard at work trying to summon something but can't because Avacyn is still protecting the plane. Jace is wandering around and reading about all this from Tamiyo's journal, he decides what better idea than to go ask Avacyn nicely why she's evil. He meets Tamiyo there, they take on Avacyn and get wrecked but learn that the other angels are mad through Avacyn and that she's holding something back. Sorin arrives, Avacyn comes mostly to her senses but thanks to Sorin programming her to think he's good because he made her and she's good she attacks him, because she's been doing evil things which makes him the greater evil for making her or something. Sorin unmakes Avacyn, immediately regrets decision as what she's been holding back starts to manifest.(It's probably Emrakul)

Basically the jist of it, it's pretty dumb so far.

>>
You know, at this point, I'm thinking the best way to resolve the story they've created is to completely fuck Innistrad up -not in the way they've been doing it by stomping on what it already had, but by following Avacyn's destruction to it's natural conclusion.
Have all those holy wards and symbols start failing and going inert. The Cursemute breaks almost completely, with only the Wolfir who'd accepted being a beast in the first place retaining their capacity for rational thought. Vampires resurge as the wards containing them fail and the hunters who were pushing them back suddenly lose the strength that had allowed them to face the blood-drinkers on even footing. The church, losing it's power, turns to Inquisition to try and maintain a semblance of order, causing what few human strongholds remain to either fracture due to infighting or become totalitarian dystopias where the citizenry is under as much threat from their "protectors" as they are from the monsters in the night. Demons surge forth, and this time the angels are insufficient to drive them back, and can't even organize to do so as they once did due to the lingering effects of the stones.
Have the fires of Innistrad fade into darkness, with light after light of human strongholds being snuffed out, until everything is cold and grey. Have the vampires realize too late that the peoples they rely on for sustenance have been hunted into extinction, their aristocratic society breaking down as they begin to starve, the hunger they felt no need to control before now driving them to turn on each other, blindly trying to feed on their own tainted blood to survive a little longer.
Let demons gain sway over the world, and corrupt the very land as their influence spreads like an infection, twisting and warping the world itself. Let the graves grow empty, as the dead roam the land endlessly.
Then sit Jace and the rest down on the highest mountain in this plane and tell them "You done fucked it up."

>according to Avacyn being in the Helvault is terrible, you're conscious but can't move or act, all you can feel is the mass of demons scratching you in the darkness

I think that it's clearly implied beyond any other interpretation that

Mass of demons = mass of dicks and tentacles
scratching = with the penises
in the darkness= the darkest place of someone = anus
feel = refering to pleasure
you're conscious but can't move or act = can't say no and the typical "my hips are moving on their own"

So yeah, of course it's clear why Avacyn didn't wanted to get out. She was getting the D eternally in ways no human or angel knows, in the ass, deep.

Nahiri probably is just tsundere because she wanted vampire D not demon D.

I'm going to assume you don't know much/anything about the setting to begin with, just so as to be able to hit everything. If you know some of this stuff already, all the better.
The best thing to do is to read the Planeswalker's Guide to Zendikar and articles published alongside Rise of the Eldrazi. They're kind of a bitch to find now, due to Wizards swapping their site around a few times, so I compiled them for you http://pastebin.com/Bb0QzVRM Of course, looking at the cards is also a good idea (flavor text and art and whatnot)

Then, consider at what point in time you want to run your game - before the Eldrazi are released, during their rampage, or after their defeat.
Beforehand, the plane is very much ADVENTURE WORLD with mysterious ruins and whatnot, many of which hint towards the lurking dangers buried in the plane. The main difference between it and your typical D&D setting is that A) everything is shifting everywhere, B) Floating hedrons fucking everywhere, and C) the world itself is trying to kill you.
Setting it after the Eldrazi are released means you have a horde of nigh-unstoppable eldritch abominations wrecking havoc and literally destroying the entire world. Less ADVENTURE, more survival-horror. The world is trying to kill you AND things from out of this world are trying to kill you.
After their defeat, the continents of Sejiri and Bala Ged are completely desolate, Guul Draz is barely habitable, and Tazeem was the site of the final battle (and was fucked over royally). There's still some lesser Eldrazi left - twitching cells and limbs of a creature - but the plane has been saved. It is now time to rebuild, so the focus would likely be on keeping alliances intact, finding survivors, and rebuilding what was lost. For something set at this point, you'd probably want to at least skim over some of the stuff from Battle for Zendikar and Oath of the Gatewatch
>>
>>47414867
Don't you know? You're not allowed to have good endings anymore, because it's not gripping and tragic enough! Everybody is sick of happy endings because everything always has a happy ending, so we're breaking the trend!
Or something along that line of thinking. I... honestly can't remember the last game I've played, tabletop or otherwise, that had a clear-cut "happy ending" instead of a tragic or bittersweet conclusion at best, stupid or indifferent conclusion at worst.

>>

>I honestly don't foresee a conclusion with her staying dead being satisfying
Same. To be completely honest, the only logical way I see this ending right now is with Innistrad dead. At the very best, it's going to be as raped as Zendikar. Unless they can restore balance by restoring Avacyn, the plane will eventually die, just as Sorin predicted. Even if the Vampires and demons have devastated numbers after this, even if somehow the humans come out on top, it is only a matter of time until the darkness of Innistrad reasserts itself. Without a means to combat the darkness with an equal and opposing force, Innistrad will eventually fall to the demons.

Avacyn is necessary. She is tied to the plane's very identity, both within the lore and without. It is a crime to leave her dead, but it will be very hard for WotC to bring her back without some awful contrived reason.

Elesh Norn is the least pure, as she is the face of utter corruption incarnate, but deluded into thinking it is those who are not yet tainted that are the unclean ones.

I think this is actually a clue that more is going on than what is being given for face value.
1. Jaces madness: Lili said he was acting very unlike Jace, and was very quick to think whatever was going on in the ocean was her fault.
2. Sorin somehow managed to not receive the signal about the eldrazi being free, everything else could just be sorin being the average uncaring dick, but lore wise he seemed to actually give a shit about nahiri.
3. Nahiri, really that pissed at sorin? Even though he actually gave believable reasons to why she didn't show? And how in the fuck did she manage to beat titans by herself? Did she just let them ravage zendikar while she created this supposed beacon to draw eldrazi to innistrad? She seems to be acting irrationally as well.
4. Raven man: Could he be manipulating all these walkers for some personal gain?

Don't go with Ulamog, anyone who's paid even the slightest attention to Magic will see them coming. Also, the Eldrazi aren't villains they're a force of nature. Like climate change, or a meteor strike: something the entire world has to band together to survive.

Ob Nilixis on the otherhand, is a proper villain. He plots, he schemes, and he casually breaks heroes over his knee. If you use him in his "trying to regain planeswalker spark" stage, he makes a good evil to try and thwart.

1. He booped the wrong head
2. I believe that was part of the ward he placed on Innistrad
3. Nahiri was pissed because he said "fuck off" when she tried to get him to hold up his end of the bargain. She was able to redo the seal on Zendikar herself since the titans hadn't fully escaped. Once she escaped the helvault, she went back to Zendikar to see the Eldrazi, who she was told couldn't be killed, nomming her plane and she wasn't strong enough to bind them. Also at this point, the civilizations she grew up with had long been extinct because of the Eldrazi the first go around and the Roil that was a result of imprisoning them.Though since she is attuned to stones, maybe whatever is chillin' up in Innistrad's moon was putting her on edge.

I like to think of Avacyn as a sleeper agent. She's a normal person with a personality and emotions but she has things programmed into her such as perceiving Sorin as good because he made her and being unable to overstep and create imbalance towards the humans.
In all likelihood it was this programming that Nahiri took advantage of to corrupt her, she already has programming to see a specific person a certain way if you manipulate that you can turn it into seeing everyone as horrible monsters with mouths for eyes. If Sorin wasn't a selfish dick and just made an angel without the bullshit I don't think any of this could have happened and I believe that's what Avacyn realised too which is why she attacked him. He made her with flaws intentionally because it benefited him to do so, thus he is the source of her evil acts making him the greater evil.

Honestly Avacyn had so much room for character development if she survived this for so many reason, not least of which living with the acts she committed. But I guess we can't have that, we've got to have stale stereotypes being best friends and saving the world.

I still hope for a Serra Planeswalker card, somehow...
>>
>>47420886
Angels can't have sparks.
>>
>>47420915
...you know Serra was the planeswalker who created the Serra Angels, right? She wasn't an Angel herself.
>>
>>47420973
Oh, that makes more sense.
>>
>>47421101
Still, you could get angel planeswalkers. Either in the same was as Karn where someone else gave them their spark or like Ob Nixilus where he had one and became a demon, there's already precedent for humans becoming angels. Honestly it's pretty lame that we still don't have any.
>>
>>47421153
Given that in the last few years we've seen a devil and demon planeswalker, it's only a matter of time until we get an angel planeswalker. There is definitely a longstanding fan demand for it. We just have to be patient and wait.
>>
>>47420688
I could see her being a sleeper agent. That makes a good deal of sense. It would explain how, despite her insanity, seeing Sorin and recognizing him as her creator returned her to almost normalcy for a moment or two.

As for character development, yes she could've had a lot more, but at least we got what we did in the last UR article.

If anything that made it worse, same for 'A Gaze Blank and Pitiless', she got character development just before something horrible happened to her. If they'd just said she was basically a robot I wouldn't have felt so bad, but as it is reading what happened to her in Gaze hurt a fucking lot, she's a real person and had to endure what amounts to serious mental torture for months?(Based on the time between first being effected and becoming the Purifier being a cycle of the moon which appear to be like seasons on Innistrad with each cycle happening once a year) She had to put up with a constant low buzzing that muffled all thoughts except the ones not her own that just kept repeating, that's some hellish imagery right there, honestly reading that made me feel ill.

Having Sorin and Avacyn's relationship to each other be confirmed that they see themselves like father/daughter just before he kills her isn't a bonus it's just salt in the wound. Then you've got to see her crying as he unmakes her because she's distraught at the things she's done and will never get to put right. It's like the whole thing was set up to be sad and painful just for the sake of it and I hate that, it's bad enough that they're killing off beloved characters without them kicking us at the same time.

I want a "Serra, Mother of Angels" planeswalker simply so we can have Rebecca Guay illustrate it.

Terese Nielsen would be fine too.

You know they've been systematically killing off all the big named W characters, right? If they ever had an angel planeswalker, it would probably be a WB at best, assuming they even leave the white and don't swap it for green or some shit.
Gotta get that edgy preteen crowd, yo!

Yeah, they really twisted the knife on the tragedy aspect. By doing all that you mentioned, they basically made Avacyn one of the most tragic figures in modern magic. She is shown to be an actual person, and a paragon of good. She is shown to experience pain, trauma, and regret. Then in the end, she is arguably needlessly expunged from existence in the exact spot where she was born by her effective father, who clearly does not want to harm her. Even then, despite the madness (which we know is not her fault and she could not stop, even though she tried), despite the destruction, all she ever tried to do was protect the innocent. I mean, goddamn. That's some excessive tragedy right there. Especially considering that her death was probably avoidable.

Exactly. I'm just so far detached from this now that it's so hard to care about EMN, what's the point there cannot possibly be a good conclusion after this. I'm sure Wizards know that there are people who play almost entirely for the characters and flavour and yet they do shit like this, at least Elspeth's death meant something and through Ajani's actions may lead to lasting good on Theros. Avacyn just got tortured for an entire set then killed for no good reason, actually hastening the plane towards disaster, that's some bullshit right there. I think this all stems from blatant misunderstanding about what people liked about Innistrad the first time around, AVR didn't do as well and mostly that was because of the cards not the story anyone who read anything about the lore there would know that AVR was not a victory it was just survival. So they decide to make this set the grimdarkest shit possible and kill off Avacyn destroying hope for the plane, hope makes dark stories worth reading even if the hope turns out to be false in the end, if there's no reason to believe things will get better then there's no draw, no reason to be engaged. That's why the 3-part story of Innistrad worked, no matter how bad things got there was always the chance Avacyn could get out of the Helvault and help, this is just grimdark garbage.

>>47421741
I'd personally kill someone at WotC if that happened, fuck Sigarda.

Oh, there was a reason alright. And that reason is that Nahiri's a fucking bitch.

She is by far the least cool of the angels IMO.

I'd have much rather either of the others. Do we know what happened to them after they got mind-fucked into copies of each other?

I honestly don't understand why Avacyn didn't kill her for heresy while she was mad. I mean she's also not done anything in any of the stories since 'vowing to stop her', garbage angel unfitting of replacing Avacyn.

>>47423629
Sorin giving his spark to Avacyn is much more plausible. Sadly if Elspeth escapes the underworld she'll likely gain Black like the rest of the returned.
